This week, Jackie and Danielle welcome their friend and enthusiastic supporter, Andrew, who is also known for his love of karaoke. The trio recounts how Jackie and Andrew met as coworkers, bonded over their mutual connections, and became close friends.
Along the way, they discuss the challenges of high school PE classes, sharing humorous and traumatic memories of their gym experiences as well as engage in a lively bracket challenge, each selecting two underdog-themed movies to compete on Instagram for the audience's vote.

[00:00:00] This week on the No More Late Fees podcast, we are joined by Jackie's karaoke buddy and Jif aficionado, Andrew. Welcome, Andrew. Hey, how's it going?
[00:00:50] I personally am excited because I've heard a lot about you. I've heard that you're one of our number one supporters, which happy to know it. I'm glad someone's listening to these episodes. Oh, I love you so much.
[00:01:08] Even did research. He went in and listened to our sports episodes to prep. He did homework. He did more homework than we did.
[00:01:15] Yeah, that's true. Our sports episodes are interesting. We know nothing about sports whatsoever. And it's funny because the next episode of a recording is with our friend Nick and he roasts us for the lack of sports knowledge. And we just don't care. We don't try either. We don't.
[00:01:39] I'll try to keep it light with you. I won't roast you. I mean, we did dodgeball together. So you already know that the sports isn't great. But dodgeball is a lot easier. The rules are simple.
[00:01:50] Yeah, you throw a ball, you hit a bitch, you catch a ball, you bring a bitch in. Right, right. It's very easy. Dodged up dive and dodge. Yes. Dodge again. So, Andrew, I'm interested to hear how our friendship began from your perspective, because I know my
[00:02:19] Oh my goodness. Well, we are co workers. We met that way. Office and you got stuck right next to me. I did. With your clickety clackety keyboard.
[00:02:32] Black and away. No, yeah, we kind of kicked it off her hit it off real easy and real quick. She went to high school with my fiance. So that didn't hurt as well. And I think it took us a couple months to make that realization. Yeah.
[00:02:46] Our high school. You tell me this. She was friends with Heather, my sister. That's right. You did say that. I actually I went to their 20th high school reunion and met Heather. And I'm like, you seem like a connoisseur to me. I'm glad somebody went to
[00:03:08] this time you threaten me. It wasn't my fault. They just didn't have it. This is true.
[00:03:14] Well, since we did dodgeball, and it's an underdog movie, and we found out that it was supposed to be called underdogs. I thought we'd do a bracket challenge this week. Each of us are going to provide two movies that had an underdog theme to it. And then I'm going to put it on our Instagram for everyone to vote.
[00:03:36] Right now we're still running the last bracket challenge we did when we had Carrie Francis on and right now it the last two movies are 10 things I hate about you and it takes to it takes to it takes to not catch you saw Yeah, right. It takes
[00:03:57] but I thought you would have I thought even between those two you would have picked 10 things I hate about you know because it takes to is my pick. Who picked 10 things I hate about you carry I think you did maybe carried it
[00:04:12] You know what that does sound like a me thing to do not remember what my pick was. Anywho, so I'm going to give you guys some time think of your two and you know what we try to stick within our like time period but if there's something that you really attach to I'm not gonna hate on it.
[00:04:31] Okay. I say this because I too am going to go outside of our time frame and Jackie already knows what it is. I 100% do because I just googled underdog movies from the 90s and it was the number one get came up. That's right.
[00:04:46] All right, Andrew, we'll start with you. Okay, so I think first one I'm going to go with the all time classic you can see it every weekend I'm sure on cable some somewhere is playing it it's going to be the replacements. Dammit, that was mine. So good.
[00:05:07] Okay, Jackie, what's your first one? My first one is little giants. Fuck you, Jackie. Damn it. I was keeping it so quiet. Love icebox. Oh, what's his name? The little one. Yes, when he's doing the flexing in a mirror.
[00:05:31] Johnny is the one who can't catch isn't it? No, no, it's no because doesn't he say Johnny's little boy to Johnny. I'm Johnny. Oh, well, I think he's talking about a little skinny nerdy kid. Yeah, yeah.
[00:05:49] It is the frog voice is the only way I can describe it. Alright, Oh, Sophie's choice over here gotta recalibrate. But there's one that I didn't have to think about much. And it's the mighty ducks. Oh, that's good.
[00:06:04] I left that to you because that was the first one I wrote down. But hey, if you want to do one, I'll do two or three whatever. I can do either one. I'll leave it to you. All right, Andrew, what's your second one?
[00:06:21] It's gonna be kicking and screaming. Oh, that is a good one. Jackie. I'm trying to decide now. Hold on. Oh, sorry. Now I'm panicking. Don't panic. I'm panicking. I'm panicking. I'm panicking. I'm panicking. I'm panicking. I'm panicking. I'm panicking. I'm panicking. I'm panicking. I'm panicking. I'm panicking.
[00:06:45] I think I'm gonna go Rookie of the Year. Oh. Okay. That's solid. Okay. Thomas Ian Nicholas, actually. You know what? I always loved Little Big League better than Rookie of the Year. Hot take. That's fair. It's fine.
[00:07:05] And I always have to like think about it first before I say it. Vanguard. Oh, gosh. There's so many to pick from. I wish we could do the 80s because you know I wouldn't pick Karate Kid. Are the new Karate Kid in the 90s?
[00:07:24] Girl, I ain't counting that. As much as I did, I ate that shit up when it came out with Hilary Swank. That one. I ate it up. Oh, I forgot about that one. I'm gonna go with Bend It Like Beckham. Oh, I like it.
[00:07:39] Because I feel like she had to fight really hard. I don't know if they won or lost or whatever, but I was very in tune to what was happening with her besides the playing of the soccer. Of the football. The foosball. Foosball. She overcame more than the sport.
[00:07:57] She did. She had to overcome a lot. A lot. My two backups were Remember the Titans and Miracle. I really love Miracle. I'm gonna use Miracle too. That's my favorite one. I used to be able to quote that speech that he gave in the locker room.
[00:08:18] I'd spend forever. Well, when we do Miracle, you'll come back and you better have it memorized. Also, oh, Coach Carter and Invincible. Those were good. Yeah. There are some really good ones, like deep dive ones that aren't. Yeah.
[00:08:37] Oh, what was that Mary-Kate and Ashley one where they played? Switching goals, baby. That was just a test. Mary-Kate and Ashley movie knowledge is impeccable. I'm surprised we haven't done one yet. We haven't. We should just take one off and just do it.
[00:08:59] Does Billboard dad fall on your time range? I'm sure they all fall in our time range. Like we should just do like one mega episode and just like run through like the highlights. Well, we can just do a Patreon episode on one of them. That's true.
[00:09:15] Yeah, that'll be fun. Okay, so we have a question for everyone. What's a sport or game you'd like to see have an underdog movie made about it? I already have my answer. Okay. Is it the bird game we play? Because I feel that bird game. Oh, wingspan. Yeah.
[00:09:33] No, that's just good fun. I feel like it'd be very interesting. Oh gosh. I made the question but I don't know my answer. You're notorious for making up the questions and not thinking about and being like well my answer is going to be.
[00:09:53] Well, I'm trying to make it fair, you know? If all of us have to think, why would I come in with like I know my answer. Mine would be curling. I love that sport. The Cutting Edge. What a great movie. Sorry. I thought of ice figure skating.
[00:10:13] That's how my brain went. Ice princess. Okay. Let her cook. Let her cook. This is. So three ADHD people doing a podcast may not be. It's gonna go real long. I'm not officially diagnosed yet. I'm not either but I know. Really leaning that way though.
[00:10:40] Really leaning that way. Oh, okay. You know what? I think I would say pickleball. The white people been eating that game up lately and I would just love to see what y'all gonna do with that. All of the older white people too. Yes.
[00:10:55] I changed my answer from going extremely white to extremely black and saying I want an underdog spades movie because it would be violent and dangerous. And there'd be gambling involved. Not really. Nobody really. I don't in space we don't really bet money. It's just.
[00:11:12] They'd find a way to do that in a movie. Yeah, maybe it'd be like maybe it'd be a spades tournament that you'd win a bunch of money. Yeah. But I like it. Get real. Yeah, it's big. How about you, Andrew? No pressure.
[00:11:28] I'm between like two right now and I really can't decide which one I would want more. Whether it be spike ball the like little net in the thing that they hit the tiny little volleyball at or hear me out ultimate like the frisbee. Ultimate frisbee. Oh yeah.
[00:11:45] That's a nice that they haven't done that one yet. What was the game we used to play when we were in elementary school? Well, it's that the ball was tethered to the string and other ball. That's it. That's it.
[00:12:03] I thought I was going to have to show you what you got it. Oh my goodness. Yeah, that I thought you were going to say volley tennis because they didn't only tennis. They didn't put up the volleyball net.
[00:12:17] So they just made us use the tennis nets outside in Coral Springs Middle School and we just played volley tennis instead. Did you not have to do that? Not at all. Side note in sixth grade, our PE classes were too big.
[00:12:32] And so they took a bunch of us. I'm assuming the non-athletic ones because I was in that group. And we just learned how to do archery and didn't have to do anything like physical. But our tree is amazing. Yeah. No, you just stand there and point and shoot.
[00:12:50] Okay. Well, I would have loved to do that. I feel like the Florida school system is was damn near abusive. I don't know if they still do this, but our PE and gym classes consisted of us running outside in the heat. And that was it.
[00:13:10] When you tell me when you watch high school movies and movies with kids and they would go to PE and they were playing volleyball and doing things like my mom told me when she
[00:13:20] was in school in high school in New York, they used to play sports and stuff. I was like, nah, ma, they have us running like slaves outside. And if it was raining, it was like volleyball in the gym. Right? It was epically wrong.
[00:13:37] And so I found an article that said that there is a link between PTSD and trauma from these really horrible PE exercises and classes to not wanting to be active in an adult life so much so that it's linked to like obesity and issues.
[00:13:56] I was like, and that's where it is. I'm going to tell my therapist, I have figured this shit out. I've been paying this lady for three years and she ain't put a finger on it yet. And I figured it out. It's PE.
[00:14:10] No, I even as a child, I was like, I'm not doing that. Jackie don't ruin my day. He doesn't run unless she is being chased. It was, it was excruciating. And I also very much have trauma from those like personal fitness tests they gave us.
[00:14:32] When I used to have to go to the shoe store and put my foot in that silver thing, I would kind of cringe because it reminded me of that machine thing. They would put you into stretch to see how far you could go.
[00:14:45] I was like, what the fuck is this for? There's a really good episode of the maintenance phase podcast where they kind of debunk a lot of health stuff about the presidential fitness program and why it was created and how it's like
[00:15:00] complete and utter bullshit and how schools should stop doing it. But of course, I don't. Also, I thought it was unfair. Ramble and middle. I'm talking to you for making me wear red cooter cutters to go run out in the hot sun. And I don't like shorts.
[00:15:17] I felt very uncomfortable. I thought I was wearing panties outside. That's how short the motherfuckers were. But you would get in trouble if you wore a short skirt to school. So why are you making me wear these cooter cutters?
[00:15:28] It's giving John Travolta in Greece, you know what I'm saying? And that's it, I'm done. I'm sorry. It was very traumatic. But do you remember that? Did you ever have to do the beep test? Yes. Oh, what is that?
[00:15:46] Where you had to run and then it would beep and you ran back that one? Where the recording told you how bad you were at running? Yeah. How out of shape you were? Like you had to beat it.
[00:15:55] You had to be the other side before it beeped again. Yeah, and then if you didn't beat it, you had to go sit out while everyone else continued. I think I just purposely didn't even make it the first time. Like I walked so I could just go sit.
[00:16:07] Like I was just, I was protesting things before I even knew I was protesting things. Yeah. Well, you know, I didn't participate like in high school, we took PE. Everyone took, I think everyone took PE freshman year if I'm not wrong.
[00:16:25] I didn't realize that we had to have like another credit of some sort of like PE physical fitness class. I thought I was done with that shit. And then I remember it was like 11th or 10th grade. They were like, oh no, you have to take something else.
[00:16:41] And I was like, oh fuck, I'm not taking PE again. I'll tell you that. So I looked at the list and it said dance. And I was like, bitch, I can do this. I should have known better. It was fucking Parkland, Florida. I should have known better.
[00:16:59] So I pick it. Mrs. Roundtree, remember her? So she is teaching this quote unquote dance class. All it was us in the gym looking at each other. We didn't do much. And I remember that.
[00:17:15] But then as I'm getting comfortable with doing nothing, she tells us, it still hurts. She tells us that we have to do a dance in front of the other gym classes in that period.
[00:17:33] And I was like, all right, let me go get my tap shoes, you know, like that. And then she's like, as a group and she's choreographing it. And I was like, oh, okay. And then she puts on some lady named Shania Twain.
[00:17:48] Now, you know, Danielle didn't know who Shania Twain was at the time. Oh no, that's not it. We did Shania Twain later. I think I had to take two semesters of it. The next semester I did Shania Twain. The first one was Black Velvet.
[00:18:05] Do you remember that song? I don't know, but the dance, I was so embarrassed. Embarrassed. Okay. Because I would never do these moves if you paid me. And I had to do it in front of all these people. Do you remember your routine? Not that one.
[00:18:27] I remember the Shania Twain one because it was fun. A lot of stomping. It felt like it felt more, it felt more black to me. Yeah. What Shania Twain song was it? Any Man of Mine. But that Black Velvet shit had me fucked up. I was so mad.
[00:18:47] I also had Miss Roundtree because I chose Step Aerobics as my second. I was fucking up. I quickly realized, because I also know how to game a system. And so I realized that if I just dressed out and didn't participate,
[00:19:03] I got a C. And so I would dress out and go and sit on my step in every single class. Miss Christine Clark was not accepting C's in physical fitness. Especially when a bitch said she was taking dance. She expected A. Like what you doing?
[00:19:24] You screwed yourself there. I didn't know. I thought it was going to be E. And they got me out here rolling around to Black Velvet. I'll never be the same. I don't understand how you pick that as a song to dance to.
[00:19:44] It's not a dancing song and I still feel it's inappropriate for children. It's true. Even Any Man of Mine was on the cusp. Why can't we do Britney Spears or NSYNC? I would have even taken Backstreet Boys. What about Christina? Or Hanson or Christina. Anything but Black Velvet.
[00:20:06] Black Velvet might have to be the next karaoke song that gets a whole dance routine with it. Please start practicing immediately. Well, Andrew, you know that we've both worked at Blockbuster, obviously. So we're going to make you an honorary Blockbuster employee.
[00:20:24] And you're going to be able to pick three movies you would recommend from our time period 1995 to 2005. And take your time. Kind of throwing this at you. Well, I'm sure either you're going to do these at some point or you've done them.
[00:20:40] I think you've done most of them. Number one by far, A Night's Tale. That's like one of my favorite all-time movies. He was so upset Johnny had to do Night's Tale. It's one of those ones I can just quote, just right at you the whole time.
[00:20:57] There was a lot of people who were like, oh, I wish I knew. I'm like, when did this movie get hot? Probably second one. It's not as well known, but it's a good Wes Anderson. Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Oh God. We're getting artsy. We're getting artsy.
[00:21:13] No, we're doing that one this year. We are. And I'm going to have to be drunk. It's so good. The music, the music is very awesome. I like the score. And then I think the third one, I mean, all-time classic, probably Saving Private Ryan.
[00:21:29] I'm a big World War II history buff. So I love that movie. I honestly don't think we're going to do any war movies. Because first of all, it's just like, except Pearl Harbor, we have to do that one because it's just pure hilarity.
[00:21:46] Because there's going to be moments. I just know it. But yeah, I just feel like it's a downer. It's sad and then hard to make war for me. Light. Yeah. Unless you have some Tropic Thunder. Right, which thank God it's not in our time here. Tropic Thunder. Oh.
[00:22:14] Does God, I keep blocking these dudes that keep messaging us on our Facebook. I keep seeing them. I just don't touch it. I just block it. I keep blocking them and they just pop up like roaches. They're like, we'll pay you.
[00:22:30] You pay us to get a bunch of listens on your podcast. I'd be like, we have no money. Yeah, I say that all the time. We're negative into this podcast every month. We have co-workers that will listen to it for free. Yeah.
[00:22:52] Well, you can always find us at Nomar Leapfees on TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and the threads. And stay tuned for our Spider-Man 2 episode next week. And if you missed our dodgeball episode with Andrew, make sure you go back and take a listen.
[00:23:09] And as always, be kind and rewind.
