[00:00:00] It's time to shout Viva Los BioDome because we're revisiting one of the most quotable cult comedies of the 90s. Along the way, we'll crown the best Pauly Shore Movie, share our Biodome survival essentials, and see what Heather stocks on the blockbuster shelves.

[00:00:31] Welcome to the No More Late Fees podcast. I'm Jackie. And I'm Danielle, and we're just two best friends and ex-blockbuster employees re-watching some of the best and worst movies from the late 90s and early 2000s. And back on this week is Jackie's sister, Heather. She's ready to quote Bud and Doyle, revisit the VHS days, and rank the best of Pauly Shore's movie career. Welcome back, Heather. Hey, guys. I'm happy to be here. I love making it on the show.

[00:01:01] We're so happy you're back. I always get a little twinge of jealousy when I play back and I hear Nick up there and your other buddies close to the double digit numbers. I'm like, come on. I'm going to pretend race with them. You and Mark are neck and neck. I think you each have four now. Okay, I'll take it. And Johnny, does Johnny have four too? Or three?

[00:01:28] He did Napoleon Dynamite, The Faculty. A Knight's Tale. A Knight's Tale. That's it? I think that's it. Isn't that a scary one with you guys? I guess The Faculty is scary. Yeah. Scary light. What's been going on? What's new? Yeah, just being in the throes of toddlerhood. Brooks is 18 months as of two days ago.

[00:01:57] So we have a year and a half year old and he's all kinds of silliness and adorableness. And Willow starts kindergarten in less than a week now on the next Monday. And I am not okay. She is so excited. Yeah, no, she's going to thrive and be wonderful. And so I'm like, anytime we talk about it, I just completely divert to how she's feeling. Yeah. Swallow down all of my thoughts and feelings about it. I don't want to yuck her yum.

[00:02:25] Does she have new clothes? She's got uniforms, which we're really struggling with. I mean, they're cute. She had, I have all of her uniforms and she's tried them on and she looks so darn cute in the uniform, but she just has this sparkle when she picks out her little outfits and most of the times they don't match. And, you know, I have to do what she's going to do. So I'm fully aware that we're going to be doing twice as much laundry because she's going to come home and change right into her outfits every day.

[00:02:55] But yeah, we're getting that. I'm for once ahead of schedule. As of last weekend, I was fully bought up on all the school supplies. So yeah. Exciting. It's happening. We're going to go to meet the teacher on Friday. So we'll get to know who's in our classroom, who her teacher is, where her little cubby is and all that fun stuff. So I'm looking forward to that. Yay. That's cool. How about you guys? Just hanging out. Got back from Colorado. It was a lot of fun.

[00:03:26] And planning Yosemite. When is that again? End of September. Okay. So yeah, it's coming up. Yeah. And what are you guys watching right now? Anything new? House of the Dragon. Oh, and I just realized we have an episode from last night I could watch. Oh, nice. I go ahead. Sorry, Dan. No, I can't do Game of Thrones anymore after the season finale. I was like, I'm sorry.

[00:03:56] I'm tapped out. Yeah. Big Brothers in full swing. So I could have up today. I can't get into Big Brother this season. I don't know. It's just so convoluted. It's how Survivor lost me too. Like, it's just too much. Yeah. Too much. Is it racist this season again? Yeah. It's homophobic. Oh, wonderful. A little cherry on top. Yeah. Is the drag queen already gone? Yeah. Aw.

[00:04:25] It was the second person voted out. That's a bummer. The third person voted out. Yeah. Is Angela being awful? She's actually being okay. There's another guy in there that is very red pill. He's a UFC fighter. Wow. I remember him from the first. So I did watch the first two episodes or so. Yeah. Damn shame. Damn shame. I'm still watching my Korean dating shows.

[00:04:54] I started watching. Well, I finished Better Late Than Single 2. And there was a reunion this season. They didn't do that last season, which was cute. Where they actually had some of the season one people go on blind dates with some of the season two people that didn't match. So the show, Heather, is about late bloomers in Korea. So they've never had any dating experience, but they're like in their 20s.

[00:05:24] And so a lot of them are really shy or introverted. And so they give them little makeovers and then go to therapy. That's so cute. I love that. Put them in the house so that they can try to date each other. And it can get brutal at times. Like awkward, brutal, where you like are cringy. Yeah. But also their feelings get hurt because like they go all in. Like they don't divert. Like I like this one person and that's it. A lot of the boys are very insensitive.

[00:05:52] So the girls' feelings get hurt a lot. And then it's not on purpose. They have like zero social skills whatsoever. So, but I think what's great about it is it's not too much pressure because they know everyone's at the same level, essentially. And even if some of them don't end up matching all the way at the end, they get the experience. And then they're like lifelong friends afterwards, which is really cool. So that's nice.

[00:06:20] So I moved on from that. And now I'm watching Singles Inferno, which is like a step above because these are not eternal singles. These are like hot ass Korean people. But they also have some like interesting dating situations. Like it's real sexy if someone like they don't touch, they don't make out like in American dating shows.

[00:06:49] So the episode I just saw, it was real Stevie because they touched pinkies in the pool. Oh no. So I was like, oh my God. Because they get really shy about like, you know, bathing suits. It's not something like you do in Korea. So them doing it is like, oh my God, I'm in the pool with you. Oh my God.

[00:07:14] You have to go get me a robe because you can't, I cannot show my entire, like it's, it's kind of insane. Wow. To be honest. So I'm watching that in another show called Love Lab where they do different experiments to see if people can fall in love. The first episode was two people who've never met and they had to stay in a bed together. And it wasn't sexual, but like they got, I think the intimacy of being in the bed made them closer pretty quickly.

[00:07:42] And that was a cute episode. So each little episode is a different scenario. So cool. You're such a hopeless romantic. Yeah. Just after Love Island, I think. Palate cleanser. Yeah. Yeah. If you're already through Love on the Spectrum, you got to go to your Asian. Yeah. Have you watched Love on the Spectrum, Danielle? I have.

[00:08:10] If only people could be as open and honest. My God. Yeah. All right. So what's the game, Jackie? So the game is called The Weasel. The Weasel had quite a run in the 90s, but only one movie can wear the crown. It's time to rank the Pauly Shore classics. And this does go a little before our time frame and then enters our time frame.

[00:08:32] So we are going to rank the following Pauly Shore movies from favorite to least favorite. And then probably argue along the way. We'll come off so much. This is going to be hard. And we'll go with the worst and then slowly get to the best. Are we each having our own list or do we have to come up with a list? We have to like duke it out and come out with a consolidated list. We each can have our own list.

[00:09:03] Oh, good. Yeah. We'll share like our least favorite and then we'll work up from there. And the list of movies for our listeners is Encino Man, Son-in-Law, In the Army Now, Jury Duty, and Biodome. So what is everyone's least favorite Pauly Shore movie? I'm going to say it. Go ahead. No, no, please. I'm going to say In the Army Now is my least.

[00:09:29] I'm going to say that too because I have not seen it or Jury Duty. Okay. I also put In the Army Now. I remember watching it, but I remember almost nothing about it. Same. Same. Oh, good. We're starting off strong. Give us all the same thing. So what comes in at your number four? I'm going to have to say Jury Duty, even though I love it. I love all the top four.

[00:10:00] I'm going to say Jury Duty too because I've never seen it. I actually, and this is only because of the rewatch, Biodome is coming in number four. Oh, no. I know. I feel like when we go to watch Jury Duty, I feel like it'll be less problematic and less rapey than Biodome. Yeah, Biodome does not stand the test of time. Number three?

[00:10:31] I'll say, I'm going on quotables really in my mind. And it's a toss-up between Son-in-Law and Encino Man. I think I'm going to go Encino Man. Son-in-Law ekes out just a little bit ahead of it. Oh, so your third one was Biodome? No, it was Encino Man. Oh, Encino Man. She's going by quotable. That don't make no sense, but okay. Because there ain't no way. I'm going Biodome.

[00:10:58] And I have a feeling if I saw Jury Duty and in the Army now, I might put Biodome at the bottom. But for now, it stands at three. I'm going Jury Duty with the peanut call. At number three. What's coming in number two? Son-in-Law. Also very rapey. I'm sticking strong with nostalgia and quotables. Yes.

[00:11:27] I am torn. Because mind you, I have not seen either one in a long time. But I do know that I really love Son-in-Law. But I really love Encino Man. So damn it. I don't know. I'm going to, you know, I'm just going to say Son-in-Law number two and give Encino Man number one because of Brendan Fraser. Oh, that's fair. Yeah. I can't believe Airheads didn't.

[00:11:57] Oh, no. Airheads was in this. That's Adam Sandler. That's why every time you guys would say, let's do Biodome, I would get excited because I thought we were doing Airheads. And then it wasn't until the last time you guys brought it up. So I was like, oh, that's not that movie. This movie. I have Encino Man at number two because I have rewatched it in the past couple of years.

[00:12:22] And I was just not as enamored with it as I once was. Betty Nugs? No? Betty Nugs. I mean, it's very quotable. And I still, to this day, shout protein group. But Son-in-Law, I probably watched Encino Man and Son-in-Law around the same time. And it's just like, can I sit and whittle some wood with you? Like, it's just so good. Oh, my God.

[00:12:51] We're missing one of his movies. And I'm going to put this one at the top. A goofy movie. Oh, yes. I only did live action. Sorry. Well, that's my number one. Okay. That's a good number one. I told Willow, because Willow hates, with a capital H, flies in the house. Like, she is like, flies! She, like, tells everyone. She's like, high alert, high alert, there's flies. So I still don't hear the song. That, like... A girl after my own heart. I hate them, too.

[00:13:21] I got to show her my mix of apple cider vinegar and sugar and soap and water. It will get those little... Oh, I need to know. Guys. We've tried some of the internet sensation combinations. It's never worked for us. So we need a secret, Danielle. For gnats, that works. Big house flies, I don't know how to get them. I tried. I just got to swat them. Ooh, the thing Jackie got me is a banger. Literally. Oh, the electrified. We have one of those, too.

[00:13:50] And it, like, pops big pops. Oh, my God. After I had my surgery, I came back to my grandma's. And I was like, do you just, in the crack of dawn, open the front door and say, welcome. Oh. Because I was getting bit up. So imagine, like, I'm itching from my scar, but I'm also having... I was miserable. And I think at some point I was crying to Jackie. And the next day, I got a package.

[00:14:17] And Nana was mad at me because she's like, why are you telling lies? Why are you telling all these people? I'm like, I'm not lying. I'm getting bit up. I'm surviving over here, Nana. Right. I think I sent Danielle the electric fly swatter, and then I sent her one of those things that, like, sucks them in and sucks them down onto sticky paper. Yes. And then I sent her a mosquito net to stick it. Over my head. And my grandma, she was mad, Jackie. She thought I was doing too much.

[00:14:46] Because she was like, what's this net for? I said, I have to put it on my head. And she's like, stop it. Because people were coming over, and I was putting it on my head. And just the other day, she found it. She's like, what is this for? Oh, that's my net. And I put it on my head. She was mad again. But Nana Jackie, of course. But just mad at me. And then she just got to troll Nana a little bit. Oh, that's awesome.

[00:15:16] Well, we got a question for everyone, right, Danielle? Yes. If you had to spend one year inside the biodome, what are the three non-essential items you'd sneak in? Oh, boy. Are there limitations? Like, can we stay on our phone? Or is that too obvious? I think that's fair. I did not think of that. But that is a fair. I'm bringing my iPad because I've got to watch my Korean dramas. What am I like?

[00:15:44] There's no way I'm surviving without TV. No way. I didn't even have any sort of device in which to watch things on my list. All I'm thinking, I don't even operate on an iPad or a laptop. I'm solely functioning on my phone. So my phone is an absolute must-do. I would need a picture of my family. I need a picture of the babies and Keith. You're sweet. I'm remembering it up here. I'll see y'all in a month. I ain't waiting for no pictures.

[00:16:14] But I will bring a fan because the bitch is going through hot flashes. I need that fan. And I think my third item would be a plug because, bitch, I got to charge my iPad and my fan. Yeah. You mean like an external? Like a solar panel? Just the actual light charger to plug into a wall. And then I would say my leg pillow. Because my hips hurt when I don't have my special pillow to play between the legs.

[00:16:43] I'm an old lady. I had headphones and an iPod. iPod? What? I wasn't thinking phone. So I'm like, I need something that like houses a lot of music for me to listen to. Like your phone. Because like, I know this podcast is in the 2000s, but. We don't have to be. Right.

[00:17:11] I have sunflower seeds like a bucket, like a five gallon bucket of sunflower seeds. I would be so dehydrated. I can't. My coworker just got to the level of comfort with me where she eats her sunflower seeds while we're on team calls together one-on-one. I'm like, this has reached a whole level of friendship. And I had my Kindle so I can catch up on my reading. Can you listen to music on Kindle or is it just reading? It's just reading.

[00:17:39] I find the Kindle to be a waste of money. Because why can't you just read it on the iPad? Because it's like a different screen so it doesn't hurt your eyes. And it can go in the sun. Like you can still see it in the sun. I try, I've tried to read the books on the digital things and I just, I really want a book. I, I, I've tried like multiple times. I'm like, I just, I just, just give me a book. I'm over it.

[00:18:10] We're over halfway through the second Harry Potter with, with Willow. And I'm so proud to like be actually reading like a chapter book again. Yeah. For the past five years, the only thing I've read is children's books. So when she turns 11, we have to have a party and resort her because she'll be older. And because that's like really the sorting. Yes. I wonder what she'll choose. She just based on crawling to the, the colored house onesie. She's a Hufflepuff. Same with Brooks. They both went to Hufflepuff. Right. Like my mama.

[00:18:40] Yeah. But yeah, we'll see it once she knows about the houses and the characters and the traits, what she chooses. Yeah. When she's 11. I know. I'm really excited. Cause my friend Candace's daughter, like, I'm like, I can't wait till she's 11. So I could do a sorting party. She will love that. Yeah. Well, Auntie Danielle has a Willow's 11th birthday. She'll plan everything.

[00:19:10] I actually plan multiple Harry Potter parties and I do a really good job. That's awesome. That's awesome. Well, now it's time to put Heather in the hot seat for her three employee picks. Just as a reminder, previous recommendations included now and then evolution, biodome, 50 first dates, how to lose a guy in 10 days, two weeks notice dress park and for scump. And this week has a theme quotable comedies.

[00:19:39] So let's see what she stocks on the shelves. Okay. The first one that came to mind was. Yeah. I love that one. And it got us through a tough time in life. So it holds dear to our heart. Okay. Quotable comedies. I'm trying not to repeat any of the other ones. I'm starting fresh. But I did mention so many of my favorites. Oh, the hot seat's the worst. Hold on.

[00:20:10] But I know this is coming every time I should spend more time. I shouldn't even worry about the movie since I know it by heart. And just put my hot seat selections. I'm going to go mall rats. I very much enjoy mall rats. Hot topic on this over here. You heard how mom's mad at us. What happened? It's supposed to be on supposedly. I'm just going to blame it on Jackie and be like, I don't know what happened. It was fine. Well, because mom's like,

[00:20:40] I was telling her like, oh, Mark's going to be on for happy Gilmore. Like once we had our calendars at Heather's going to do biodome. And she's like, what am I doing this year? And I was like, well, there aren't many movies left. And I was reading them to her. She's like, I can do mall rats. I'm like, okay. And then mall rats came in. What? And I just never asked her. Cause I'm like, you're not going to enjoy doing all rats. And so then like a month ago, she was over at the house. She's like,

[00:21:09] when do I get to record my episode on mall rats? Oh, Oh, about that. And she was just like, you bitch. I told Jackie, she can, she can be on the episode again when she listens to the podcast. It is a prerequisite. How about that? But don't, don't tell her, don't tell her. Ask her, ask her what the, any part of the intro, what it sounds like. Yeah. Tell me, without looking it up,

[00:21:39] two movies we've done in the past year and a half. Oh, you guys are in big trouble. It's Jackie's fault. I I'm, I'm not getting involved. My last one. I'm going to say bird cage because that's a good one. So we've done two out of the three. Stepbrothers is out of your guys timeframe. So basically you've done the only two you could. Yeah. I had made a video a while ago about,

[00:22:09] it would be cool if Hillary Duff and Lindsay Lohan were in a movie together. And I was like a girl version of stepbrothers would be cool. Oh yeah. So. I would see that. Okay. I have a hard time with Hillary Duff's teeth. I really like her. I like everything. All of like her vibe these days. Yeah. But I just, her teeth. She's like, has to talk around her teeth. She's like Tim Curry.

[00:22:34] I think it is really difficult where like a lot of stars have gotten the veneers like Miley Cyrus. And I'm just hoping that the trend because of AI and like the lack of authenticity. And if you're looking at, we're going to look at this point of time and everyone kind of looks the same. And so I'm hoping like, you know, the pendulum swings always. Right. So I'm hoping when it does swing back,

[00:23:03] it will go to people having like those quirks. I love the Zendaya never like fixed her teeth. Yeah, me too. So, I mean, I get why people do it. The aesthetic to having perfectly straight teeth and not having to worry about it. I get it. But it's sometimes it is jarring. Like when people get it after you've seen them for so long and then all of a sudden it does change the shape of their face essentially, you know? Yeah. So if you have any commentary on our list,

[00:23:32] if you have a favorite Pauly Shore movie, hit us up at no more late fees on Tik TOK, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube threads, blue sky, all the places. And as always be kind and rewind.
