[00:01:54] And if you want to learn more about Ron, check him out later this week on our bonus episode
[00:02:00] as we try to guess the Rotten Tomatoes scores of some snowy classics,
[00:02:04] as well as his previous episode, B-Skip-Ball.
[00:02:08] Yes.
[00:02:09] And his wife, who we love very much, Gwen, is our next of kin.
[00:02:16] So you are our next-a-next of kin.
[00:02:18] Next-a-next of kin.
[00:02:20] I should just be introduced as Gwen's husband, I think.
[00:02:22] Yes.
[00:02:24] In fact, I just want to be referred to as Gwen's husband.
[00:02:28] We're just obsessed.
[00:02:30] I love her so much.
[00:02:32] Me too.
[00:02:33] Big fan.
[00:02:34] We love you too, Ron.
[00:02:36] We love you very much.
[00:02:37] We're so glad that you're on.
[00:02:39] Really can't wait to get into this episode because I feel like I'm going to be outranked on this one,
[00:02:45] but that's all right.
[00:02:46] That's okay.
[00:02:46] We all have opinions.
[00:02:48] I could be ride or die today.
[00:02:50] That's fine.
[00:02:51] All right.
[00:02:53] Well, let's get into what Alcold is.
[00:02:56] Because if you're like me, you're like, what the fuck is Alcold?
[00:03:00] Let me tell you.
[00:03:01] Alcold takes us to the snow-covered slopes of Bull Mountain, Alaska, where a group of misfit snowboarders fight to save their local mountain from being taken over by a luxury resort developer.
[00:03:13] It's a hilarious ride full of pranks, parties, and unforgettable characters.
[00:03:18] The movie stars Jason London, Lee Majors, Zach Galifianakis, David Koshner, and A.J. Cook.
[00:03:26] It was directed by Emmett Molloy and Brendan Molloy.
[00:03:29] The Molloy Boys.
[00:03:31] I think they actually have a name, the something, but I can't remember.
[00:03:35] Yeah, it's the Molloy's.
[00:03:36] The Molloy's, yeah.
[00:03:38] Yeah.
[00:03:38] It was written by John Zach, and you can currently watch it for free on the Internet Archive.
[00:03:45] A very good resource.
[00:03:47] If you haven't donated to them, you should, because our media is being taken from us and rewritten, so make sure you support them.
[00:03:55] Also, if you don't want it for free, go pay Prime for about $3.99 to rent this movie.
[00:04:02] I highly suggest you go to the Internet Archive.
[00:04:05] And let's get into our ratings rewind.
[00:04:08] So you know the drill.
[00:04:10] Before we get into the movie, we'll reveal the rating our Y2K versions of ourselves would give.
[00:04:14] Then at the end, we'll see if our current selves agree with our initial rating.
[00:04:18] Our scale consists of Would Buy It, Would Buy It Again.
[00:04:21] The best would play on repeat.
[00:04:23] Five-day rental.
[00:04:24] Would watch again.
[00:04:25] Two-day rental.
[00:04:27] Yeah, okay, but nothing to write home about.
[00:04:29] And same-day rental.
[00:04:34] It's trash!
[00:04:41] Ron, what is your Y2K rating of Out Cult?
[00:04:45] Would Buy It, Would Buy It Again, and would hang it up on a wall.
[00:04:49] No lies detected.
[00:04:51] Same-sies.
[00:04:54] Would Buy It Again for you, Jackie.
[00:04:56] Yep, Would Buy It Again for me.
[00:04:58] Danielle, how are you feeling about Out Cult?
[00:05:00] All right, so hear me out, hear me out, hear me out.
[00:05:03] I know, since we started this podcast, I've been giving you hell about this movie.
[00:05:09] Really?
[00:05:10] Yeah.
[00:05:11] I don't want to do that.
[00:05:13] I don't want to do that.
[00:05:13] I don't want to do it.
[00:05:14] But we're here.
[00:05:15] I ain't never seen this movie.
[00:05:17] Danielle, you have maintained our entire podcast life that you've seen it.
[00:05:23] And so that's why you can justify not wanting to do it.
[00:05:29] Oh, this is good.
[00:05:30] You are a liar.
[00:05:32] This is...
[00:05:32] I'm just going to sit back right now.
[00:05:35] I'm watching.
[00:05:37] It wasn't necessarily a lie.
[00:05:41] I just didn't remember.
[00:05:43] And your honor, it's on record, on file of this podcast.
[00:05:48] I got a great memory.
[00:05:51] So I just said I saw it, but I apparently never saw it.
[00:05:59] And I think what I thought this movie was were those ski movies.
[00:06:04] Remember, there was a bunch of ski movies.
[00:06:09] There was like a Club Dread ski.
[00:06:12] No.
[00:06:12] Oh, maybe.
[00:06:13] Maybe.
[00:06:13] Let me...
[00:06:14] I'll look it up.
[00:06:15] But...
[00:06:15] I don't think they did it.
[00:06:16] I misremembered.
[00:06:18] So this is a never seen for me.
[00:06:20] But you know what?
[00:06:21] I stand by my protest.
[00:06:28] I said, oh, Jesus.
[00:06:31] Well, Jackie, I ain't never seen this movie.
[00:06:36] That was about the box office.
[00:06:41] Well, somebody gave them $24 million to make this.
[00:06:46] And it made $14.8 million.
[00:06:49] I tried to see what Lil Raj had to say, but I don't even think he saw it, girl.
[00:06:55] Don't even think he saw it.
[00:06:56] Couldn't find it.
[00:06:57] So I watched this movie twice.
[00:06:59] I watched it the regular way and quoted my way through it.
[00:07:02] And then I watched it with...
[00:07:04] Because I had the DVD.
[00:07:05] And so I watched all of the deleted scenes.
[00:07:09] And I watched it with the director's commentary.
[00:07:12] And for some reason, they had their grandma rose with them.
[00:07:15] That's amazing.
[00:07:15] One point, they mentioned something about how she's going to be excited because Ebert and Roper are going to review their movie.
[00:07:27] Obviously, that never happened.
[00:07:28] I mean, it could have.
[00:07:29] I just couldn't find it.
[00:07:31] Well, if they didn't, it's probably because she referred to Ebert as the fat man on the comments.
[00:07:39] Well, I will read you a few reviews.
[00:07:42] Christy Lemire of the Associated Press said,
[00:07:46] Basically a low-rent remake of the 1984 low-rent teenage sex comedy Hot Dog, the movie.
[00:07:53] Hot Dog is a ski movie.
[00:07:55] But yeah, I think it is.
[00:07:57] Man.
[00:07:58] Marjorie Baumgarten from Austin Chronicle said,
[00:08:01] What can you say about a movie that includes its out-teak bloopers reel before the closing credit?
[00:08:06] I don't know.
[00:08:07] What can you say?
[00:08:09] I mean, it was during.
[00:08:10] I'm pretty sure there was while they were running.
[00:08:14] And lastly, Claudia Pugue from USA Today said,
[00:08:17] Even though no one in the film breaks a leg, alcohol is as lame as it gets.
[00:08:22] Damn.
[00:08:23] That was cold.
[00:08:24] Ice cold.
[00:08:26] Can I retrospectively write a glowing review?
[00:08:29] You can.
[00:08:31] You can.
[00:08:32] But it's going to be on the other side, not the critic side.
[00:08:37] Yeah.
[00:08:37] Yeah.
[00:08:37] Can I call myself a critic?
[00:08:39] I have a podcast.
[00:08:40] I feel like I have credentials.
[00:08:43] Yes.
[00:08:44] How do we become critics?
[00:08:45] Let's go like this real quick.
[00:08:48] Here's my badge.
[00:08:50] And by the way, everybody, the Burn Book is back, baby.
[00:08:55] Oh, yay.
[00:08:56] The Burn Book is back.
[00:08:57] We didn't do it last night.
[00:08:58] We did it.
[00:08:58] We haven't done it for a few episodes.
[00:09:00] But you know what?
[00:09:01] I like that.
[00:09:02] It's special because it doesn't happen.
[00:09:04] But the last few entries.
[00:09:07] So, Ron, when we did Mean Girls with Gwen, Danielle found this empty Burn Book.
[00:09:12] And so now we're just putting all of our grievances ever in the Burn Book.
[00:09:17] I love it.
[00:09:17] And they are wild and varied.
[00:09:20] So far, Rugs in the Bathroom, Disloyal Bitches, James the Nasty Franco, Tina Fey, New Jersey,
[00:09:30] Boomers Who Watch Bewitched, the 2005 movie, which that one came from our Mean Girls episode.
[00:09:36] Just to name a few.
[00:09:40] So she's back, baby.
[00:09:42] Before we get into the cast and crew, let's hear a message from our pod pals.
[00:09:51] Stoner Chicks.
[00:09:53] We're four friends who met through comedy and bonded through weed.
[00:09:57] I'm Grace Penzel.
[00:09:58] I'm Kayla Teal.
[00:09:59] I'm Stephanie Thompson.
[00:10:01] I'm Phoebe Richards.
[00:10:02] If you love smoking weed and laughing with your friends, this podcast is for you.
[00:10:06] Subscribe now to Stoner Chicks wherever you get your podcasts.
[00:10:12] All right.
[00:10:13] So did you know that this was Zach Galifianakis' first major supporting role?
[00:10:18] No.
[00:10:19] I had no idea.
[00:10:21] I have this thing where people will be like, oh, yeah, they were in this blah, blah, blah
[00:10:26] as a random character.
[00:10:28] My brain does not work that way.
[00:10:30] They are a nobody until they are somebody.
[00:10:33] And then I go back and watch the movie.
[00:10:35] And then I'm like, oh, that's Zach Galifianakis, even though I've seen this movie a million
[00:10:39] times.
[00:10:40] Yeah.
[00:10:41] I think I have one and I don't know if you're going to get it, but I was watching Out Cold
[00:10:44] last night and I had this moment where I'm like, oh, my God, he looks like this dude in
[00:10:50] a video game that I used to play.
[00:10:54] And I looked it up and Pigpen is the bad guy in Need for Speed in like 2002 or something
[00:11:03] like that.
[00:11:04] And it was like the first what was it was like there's a cut scene and they used video,
[00:11:09] but it was in I mean, in 2002.
[00:11:12] So it's like a video game and it's he's supposed to be this like badass racer, like and his name's
[00:11:18] Razor.
[00:11:21] It's the cheesiest shit ever.
[00:11:23] And I even sent it to my friend last night after I was like, because he loved Out Cold
[00:11:27] that I told him I was doing this.
[00:11:28] He's like, awesome.
[00:11:29] And I was like, exactly.
[00:11:31] And the response we want.
[00:11:33] That's all you could say about this movie.
[00:11:35] You ask anybody that watched this movie in the early 2000s, like, what did you think about
[00:11:39] Cold?
[00:11:40] Awesome.
[00:11:40] And that's it.
[00:11:41] And maybe they'll quote some stuff.
[00:11:44] Right.
[00:11:45] But no, he was Razor in Need for Speed.
[00:11:48] And if you look up the clips of him, because there's probably like four or five cut scenes,
[00:11:54] they're ridiculous.
[00:11:56] It's like when he doesn't look like it was so weird as you're looking at him, it's like a
[00:12:01] totally different character.
[00:12:02] But he's like got a shaved head.
[00:12:05] And it's very much like, what's it called?
[00:12:10] What's the Vin Diesel movies?
[00:12:11] Why can't I think of it?
[00:12:12] Fast and the Furious.
[00:12:13] Where they're like, they're racing for pink slips.
[00:12:16] And he's like the top.
[00:12:17] And you've got to like beat people to race him.
[00:12:20] He's just like an asshole about everything.
[00:12:22] And I'm like, oh my God, it's him.
[00:12:24] And I found it is.
[00:12:26] They're the same person, but they do not look like it's just here because it's totally
[00:12:31] different aesthetic.
[00:12:32] But I would have never guessed that.
[00:12:35] Never.
[00:12:35] I didn't play those games.
[00:12:37] So I caught that.
[00:12:38] The actor, Derek Hamilton, that plays Pigpen.
[00:12:42] Another little treasure from the commentary.
[00:12:45] He is a Golden Gloves boxer.
[00:12:48] Oh, wow.
[00:12:49] Wow.
[00:12:49] So when he hits Zach Galifianakis, they were like, there are a couple of times where like,
[00:12:54] he really.
[00:12:55] Oh, no.
[00:12:56] And they really fucked with him in that movie.
[00:12:58] They really did.
[00:13:00] That polar bear scene.
[00:13:02] I was like, terrified.
[00:13:04] Do you know, like, how scary a fucking polar bear is?
[00:13:10] Like, if you're running away from a polar bear, you might as well give up.
[00:13:14] You will not.
[00:13:15] They will.
[00:13:16] They're so fast.
[00:13:17] And they're.
[00:13:18] I think they're the most, one of the most vicious bears.
[00:13:22] Yes.
[00:13:23] They look cuddly and cute, but they are not.
[00:13:26] That polar bear was trained using pizza bagels.
[00:13:30] I would not.
[00:13:32] I don't have a dick.
[00:13:33] This is great.
[00:13:34] Jackie, this is fantastic.
[00:13:36] I want to watch movies with you after you have all the trivia.
[00:13:41] Did you know?
[00:13:44] That bear likes pizza bagels.
[00:13:46] Like, would you let a fucking polar bear be around?
[00:13:51] It was the trainer that was sitting.
[00:13:55] It wasn't Zach Galifianakis.
[00:13:57] That's why they only show him from behind and then the close up.
[00:13:59] Oh, because I was terrified for him.
[00:14:03] They did mention, like, polar bears eat humans.
[00:14:07] Yes.
[00:14:08] And the trainer did that stunt.
[00:14:10] Trainer's crazy, too.
[00:14:11] And they said that they were behind, like, a chicken wire fence.
[00:14:15] Like, that was going to prevent the polar bear from, like, charging them.
[00:14:19] Oh, my God.
[00:14:20] I would be so fucking scared.
[00:14:22] Bears definitely scare me.
[00:14:25] Yeah.
[00:14:25] The character of Barry, he was played by Todd Richards.
[00:14:29] Who is a professional snowboarder.
[00:14:32] And he was the member of the 1998 U.S. Olympic snowboarding team.
[00:14:37] Probably the most capable member of the cast on a snowboard.
[00:14:42] However, in the film, he never leaves his wheelchair.
[00:14:45] It's like Artie.
[00:14:46] Wild.
[00:14:46] Wild.
[00:14:47] The guy who plays Artie in Glee.
[00:14:49] Yeah.
[00:14:50] Very niche reference.
[00:14:51] He was one of the best dancers out of the original Glee kids.
[00:14:55] And they had him in the wheelchair.
[00:14:56] And I'm just like, what were we thinking?
[00:14:59] Yeah.
[00:15:00] Yeah.
[00:15:00] Because, I mean, Barry's great and all.
[00:15:03] But, like, worst actor of the bunch.
[00:15:05] Yes.
[00:15:06] Yeah.
[00:15:06] And you're just like, I get it.
[00:15:08] You want to have a real snowboarder on the movie Out Cold.
[00:15:11] But shouldn't he be snowboarder?
[00:15:12] Right.
[00:15:13] Could have been one of the friends.
[00:15:14] I don't know.
[00:15:15] Like.
[00:15:16] No.
[00:15:16] I know.
[00:15:18] So, yeah.
[00:15:19] So, this was Louis Arquette's final movie performance.
[00:15:22] He plays Papa Munz.
[00:15:23] He died nine months before the film's release.
[00:15:27] Aw.
[00:15:27] And originally they wanted to give the Arquette family the statue of Papa Munz because it was Louis.
[00:15:34] But they were like, logistically, where are you going to put a giant ass statue of your dad?
[00:15:39] I would want that so bad.
[00:15:41] I want to know who has it.
[00:15:43] Who has it, Jackie?
[00:15:43] They said it's, well, as of the commentary, it was in a museum up in Canada where they were shooting.
[00:15:50] Oh, okay.
[00:15:52] All right.
[00:15:53] Second road trip, guys.
[00:15:54] To go visit the Papa Munz statue?
[00:15:58] Sign me up.
[00:15:59] You know what I felt like this movie was missing?
[00:16:02] Because.
[00:16:03] Boobs?
[00:16:04] Yeah, titties.
[00:16:05] Where were they?
[00:16:06] Because.
[00:16:07] Yeah.
[00:16:08] Oh, they?
[00:16:09] I was surprised because it felt like it was missing that raunch.
[00:16:14] This movie felt like it should have it.
[00:16:16] Not that I am pushing for this.
[00:16:20] But in that time.
[00:16:20] You were ready for it, huh?
[00:16:21] I was like, where did titties at?
[00:16:23] I actually was so surprised that when at the end of the movie, when they did the like pants down run, that they didn't have their asses.
[00:16:34] Yeah.
[00:16:35] Like they say asses out.
[00:16:37] They've got the buttons thing.
[00:16:39] I was like, I thought that's what I even remembered it that way.
[00:16:42] Yeah.
[00:16:42] When I watched it again, I was like, I mean.
[00:16:45] Where are my buns?
[00:16:46] Yeah.
[00:16:46] No buns.
[00:16:47] Boobs and buns.
[00:16:48] No boobs.
[00:16:49] So apparently two scenes featuring Victoria Silvestre were cut.
[00:16:55] One was an extended version topless hot tub scene, which was cut to lower the MPAA rating.
[00:17:01] The other scene was a three minute end scene between Inga and Luke in his cabin.
[00:17:10] Three minutes.
[00:17:11] What the fuck?
[00:17:13] I don't know.
[00:17:14] I want the director's cut.
[00:17:16] I want the titties.
[00:17:17] I want the out cold director's cut.
[00:17:19] I need to know what it was meant to be.
[00:17:21] Exactly.
[00:17:22] Because, well.
[00:17:23] Well, like I said, I watched the extended version.
[00:17:28] First off, let me go back to the character of Inga.
[00:17:32] Apparently Victoria Silvestre has played a character named Inga three times.
[00:17:39] She's like, every time I get cast, it's for someone named Inga.
[00:17:42] Like they can't come up with other Swiss names.
[00:17:46] I love it.
[00:17:46] The reason you guys brought me on for this episode is she was also in basketball.
[00:17:50] Yes.
[00:17:51] Was she?
[00:17:52] Yeah, when she was in the hot tub as well.
[00:17:54] And he's like, what are you doing?
[00:17:55] He's like, dude, it's Victoria Silvestre, Playmate of the Year.
[00:17:58] And that, yeah, that's the tie-in.
[00:18:02] I don't remember if that was at the point where I turned it off or not.
[00:18:07] Remember I?
[00:18:08] No.
[00:18:08] It didn't hold up.
[00:18:10] For sure.
[00:18:11] All right, Jackie.
[00:18:12] Let's do this thing.
[00:18:14] So we're going to start with, yeah, it's going to be a lot of pop-up video facts, including this one.
[00:18:20] So we're going to start with a deleted scene, which explains so fucking much about who Rick is.
[00:18:29] And it is a conversation between him and Papa Montz.
[00:18:33] His dad was partners with Papa Montz.
[00:18:37] And Papa Montz wanted to leave the business to Rick, had like the contract and everything drawn up and Rick needed to sign it.
[00:18:46] But then Papa Montz needed to take a shit, as you do at the top of the mountain.
[00:18:52] And he goes to just drop trow in nature and shit.
[00:18:56] And he has a heart attack and dies.
[00:18:58] And that's why he skis into town with his ass hanging out.
[00:19:03] Because he has died taking a shit in the woods.
[00:19:08] Which actually gets pretty complicated because the son isn't really like hated by anyone.
[00:19:16] No.
[00:19:16] And usually in these types of tropes where like the son gets it, but they don't deserve it.
[00:19:21] Yeah.
[00:19:22] They're usually an asshole.
[00:19:23] And so there's a lot of watching it now as an adult, and I'm sure he gets this, but there's so much plot in this movie where I'm like, I mean, you could have just like shifted it a little bit.
[00:19:34] And it would make much more sense as the movie goes.
[00:19:37] Because really, why I loved this movie and why I still love this movie, it is just filled with one-liners.
[00:19:44] Yeah.
[00:19:45] And that's it.
[00:19:46] And it's Casablanca, really.
[00:19:47] It's the same movie.
[00:19:48] Yes.
[00:19:49] You can never make me hate Willie Garson.
[00:19:52] Like, never.
[00:19:53] Never.
[00:19:54] And so, yes, him, I think the role should have been split because Thomas Lennon is so good at being like such a shithead.
[00:20:03] Yeah.
[00:20:04] Like, I kind of feel like having both those characters were weird.
[00:20:07] Like, there should have only just been one.
[00:20:09] Yeah, it was in the same guy.
[00:20:10] It was hard to understand their roles, too.
[00:20:12] Like, who he was.
[00:20:14] They don't really tell you.
[00:20:15] He just is there.
[00:20:16] I feel like he may have been like Papa Muntz's right-hand man.
[00:20:20] And so, he felt like he had some sense of authority when he really didn't.
[00:20:25] Didn't.
[00:20:25] I don't know.
[00:20:27] But then I was confused because at one point, Willie Garson's character, Ted, says, that's my dad.
[00:20:35] But I didn't know what he was talking about.
[00:20:38] Oh, yeah.
[00:20:39] He was Papa Muntz's son.
[00:20:41] Okay.
[00:20:41] Okay.
[00:20:42] I, like, wasn't paying attention for a second.
[00:20:45] And he said, that's my dad.
[00:20:46] You didn't watch the movie.
[00:20:47] It's fine.
[00:20:47] No, I did.
[00:20:48] I did.
[00:20:48] I did.
[00:20:49] I did.
[00:20:49] I did watch it this time.
[00:20:50] So, I thought it was Stumpy.
[00:20:53] And I got really confused for a second.
[00:20:55] Stumpy's just there.
[00:20:57] He's so crazy.
[00:20:58] It was great.
[00:20:59] Crazy.
[00:21:01] And how many people have-
[00:21:02] Careful what you wish for.
[00:21:04] How many people in this cast was-
[00:21:07] Yes, he was.
[00:21:08] Wild.
[00:21:09] How many people in this cast were in the office?
[00:21:12] That's what I kept thinking.
[00:21:14] I know Lance was.
[00:21:15] Yes.
[00:21:16] And so, so was Stumpy.
[00:21:19] Yes.
[00:21:20] And I don't know if Zach guested on that show or if I was thinking of, like, the ferns.
[00:21:27] I feel like he did.
[00:21:29] I don't know if I was, like, I made that up in my head.
[00:21:33] But, yeah.
[00:21:34] Maybe.
[00:21:35] So, now we know the true origin story and why everyone kept on referring to him supposedly, like, should have gotten the resort.
[00:21:48] Yeah.
[00:21:49] So, yes, we are introduced to Bull Mountain.
[00:21:52] It was stolen from the E-word, I don't want to say because it's not-
[00:21:56] The native people of Alaska.
[00:22:00] Yes.
[00:22:01] We get-
[00:22:01] This soundtrack is amazing.
[00:22:05] Okay, so here's the thing.
[00:22:06] I think-
[00:22:07] I think the one-liners watching it in this time frame and the soundtrack never truly stops.
[00:22:16] It's, like, constant.
[00:22:18] And knowing how much you love that music.
[00:22:21] Mm-hmm.
[00:22:23] I think that, like, watching it, I was like, oh, okay, this is what this is.
[00:22:27] Because I-
[00:22:27] And it was cool at that time.
[00:22:29] Yes.
[00:22:29] Snowboarding was cool.
[00:22:31] I forgot about, like, the opening song is an Eve 6 song that I haven't heard since probably I watched this movie.
[00:22:38] And I was like-
[00:22:38] Jackie loves Eve 6.
[00:22:39] I'm so happy.
[00:22:40] I love Eve 6.
[00:22:41] So, so happy.
[00:22:42] So, the Al Cole soundtrack is a 12-track compilation of songs.
[00:22:46] And it features bands like Eve 6, Sun 41, Food Fighters, and Jimmy Eat World.
[00:22:52] Although, the Weezer song that's played multiple times, which I felt like, am I watching Mary-Kate and Ashley, Holiday in the Sun?
[00:23:00] Mm-hmm.
[00:23:00] Because they kept playing the Weezer song, Island in the Sun, but it's not on the soundtrack.
[00:23:06] I hate that song.
[00:23:07] I love Weezer.
[00:23:09] I hate that song.
[00:23:11] I think they overplayed it.
[00:23:13] Yeah.
[00:23:14] That-
[00:23:15] That-
[00:23:16] It was very weird.
[00:23:17] And I think they even felt like it was weird that that particular album was so popular, like, mainstream.
[00:23:25] Yeah.
[00:23:25] It was used in everything.
[00:23:27] I think it kind of makes sense where you've got, in this weird way, I guess maybe I'm justifying it in my head,
[00:23:34] that it's not on the soundtrack because it was part of the plot.
[00:23:38] Maybe.
[00:23:39] That it wasn't, like, the background music, but it was, like-
[00:23:42] It was in the movie.
[00:23:44] Yeah.
[00:23:45] I don't know.
[00:23:46] I just-
[00:23:46] I think it must have been some sort of licensing thing or something.
[00:23:49] Could be.
[00:23:49] Maybe they only played it a certain length and they didn't play certain parts of it.
[00:23:53] Yeah.
[00:23:54] Because I don't know why that-
[00:23:57] Like, a song that's played multiple times in a movie should be on the soundtrack.
[00:24:02] You know, every time I come on with you guys, I feel like I have more questions than answers by the end of it.
[00:24:08] Like, just Googling the whole time.
[00:24:10] Like, why wasn't-
[00:24:14] Don't worry.
[00:24:15] We live that life all the time.
[00:24:17] Yeah.
[00:24:17] What happens next, Jackie?
[00:24:19] So, like you said, Papa Month's son, Ted Month's is selling the mountain.
[00:24:26] So, they're preparing for the new potential buyer to come into town and meet him and schmooze him.
[00:24:35] Then we're in, like, the local watering hole, El Matador, which is Spanish for the matador.
[00:24:42] So good.
[00:24:43] Want to drink you, Pooh?
[00:24:45] Do you know how many times I think I quote this movie and don't even know that I'm quoting this movie?
[00:24:49] Right?
[00:24:51] I have a complaint.
[00:24:55] Okay.
[00:24:56] With these dude bro movies.
[00:24:58] Like, why aren't there more hot guys?
[00:25:03] Because, all right.
[00:25:04] Why are these average ass not, like, the only eye candy in this movie was Flex and one of the London boys.
[00:25:14] I don't know which one is which.
[00:25:15] And that's pushing it for me.
[00:25:18] Nothing to look at here.
[00:25:19] It's this thing in the 90s and it was when you've got all male writers and directors and they're selling this to an audience of younger boys of just, like, there's always that.
[00:25:36] And I also want to point out the female lead in this was that exact same trope of, like, the cool girl that is, like, one of the bros and she's going to wait for you.
[00:25:49] And, like, it really is just fitting into this male fantasy of, like, it doesn't matter what I look like.
[00:25:58] I just got to be cool and I can get chicks.
[00:26:01] And, like, that's what this is about.
[00:26:02] And this is what's setting up white men for.
[00:26:06] And here we are.
[00:26:09] For not success.
[00:26:11] I mean, it is setting them up for success, but the bar is in hell.
[00:26:15] Like, not one of these dudes are attractive.
[00:26:19] But that's where you get a bunch of incels and guys that really think that they deserve.
[00:26:28] Yeah.
[00:26:29] Because they're being, oh, like in the movie, I'm being cool and nice to you.
[00:26:35] So sleep with me.
[00:26:36] Right.
[00:26:37] Hey.
[00:26:37] Not everyone, like, this is what I'm talking about.
[00:26:40] Representation matters, but not for, not for them.
[00:26:45] Not for them.
[00:26:47] I think we need to revoke it.
[00:26:49] I really do.
[00:26:51] And so I was just a little annoyed by that.
[00:26:54] I mean, this movie wouldn't get made today.
[00:26:57] Well, I don't know because I see some stuff.
[00:27:00] Okay.
[00:27:01] Well, maybe now today.
[00:27:03] Maybe today, today.
[00:27:05] But it just sucks.
[00:27:07] I bring it up because, like, name two female movies where it's the same.
[00:27:13] Yeah.
[00:27:15] I think that usually, especially when it's an ensemble, most of the women are pretty high,
[00:27:21] like a standard of beauty, of being pretty hot.
[00:27:26] And maybe there'll be two, maybe two outliers, but the majority of them are attractive.
[00:27:34] And I'm just like, okay, what about the ugly chicks?
[00:27:39] Representation on that end.
[00:27:42] Yeah.
[00:27:42] No, it's really, I mean, it's talked about here in Hollywood all the time.
[00:27:45] Let me not say the ugly chicks.
[00:27:47] I feel horrible.
[00:27:49] It's said, it's talked about a lot in Hollywood with just, like, certain expectations and what
[00:27:54] it takes to be a lead.
[00:27:55] You have to be young and hot and, you know, desirable and available.
[00:28:03] And all those things.
[00:28:05] And for a man, it's like, none of that matters.
[00:28:07] And it's so funny you were saying that it wouldn't be made today, but we literally just
[00:28:13] had an article about Rat Boy Summer.
[00:28:15] Like, they're trying to push so hard on some of these dudes that, like, no, we're not finding
[00:28:25] them attractive.
[00:28:25] And also, love Glenn Powell, but please stop trying to throw him down our throats.
[00:28:31] Please.
[00:28:33] I think he's charming.
[00:28:35] He is.
[00:28:36] But he's, like, they try to, they were really pushing to say, like, he was the next, I don't
[00:28:41] know, Tom Cruise.
[00:28:42] I know that's not a justifiable one because we don't love Tom Cruise like that.
[00:28:47] But you know what I mean?
[00:28:48] Like, he's the next.
[00:28:49] Ryan Reynolds.
[00:28:49] Yeah.
[00:28:50] Okay.
[00:28:51] But he's the next big movie star.
[00:28:56] So when I asked somebody about him and they said it's the way that, so this girl told
[00:29:02] me the way that he looks at people.
[00:29:05] Yes.
[00:29:06] It is just special.
[00:29:09] It looks like he's looking at you and listening to you.
[00:29:13] And I'm like, oh, okay.
[00:29:15] I guess.
[00:29:16] I think the thing I find attractive about him is that he's charming, but his characters that
[00:29:21] he plays, I am, I like his characters.
[00:29:24] You know?
[00:29:26] Even when he's a douche, he's still kind of fun.
[00:29:28] Like, I think if they had just let it alone.
[00:29:30] Are you talking about Twisters?
[00:29:32] Because.
[00:29:32] Well, that white t-shirt scene where it rained a little bit, I was happy.
[00:29:36] Not gonna lie.
[00:29:38] Not gonna lie about that.
[00:29:39] I just so wanted to be pushed down my throat.
[00:29:43] That's all.
[00:29:43] Like, let it happen organically.
[00:29:45] He did not.
[00:29:46] Let it happen in the rain.
[00:29:48] Right.
[00:29:48] As long as he's in the rain, push him anywhere you want.
[00:29:51] But when the sun's out, give me someone else.
[00:29:56] Yeah.
[00:29:58] So in this scene, Eric, like, hits on.
[00:30:03] Why can't I think of her name?
[00:30:05] Inga?
[00:30:06] No.
[00:30:07] Jenny.
[00:30:07] We're early.
[00:30:08] Jenny.
[00:30:08] Yes.
[00:30:09] Cool, man.
[00:30:09] So he hits on Jenny.
[00:30:11] And I have a question.
[00:30:13] What happened to Banaka?
[00:30:14] Because he liked his little spray spray.
[00:30:17] That is something that is like, the kids today don't know what Banaka is.
[00:30:23] I think Banaka had alcohol in it.
[00:30:26] It was something wrong with Banaka.
[00:30:27] Yeah.
[00:30:28] Yeah.
[00:30:28] Something was going on.
[00:30:29] It was a problem.
[00:30:31] Yeah.
[00:30:32] It was Banaka.
[00:30:33] Getting drunk on Banaka?
[00:30:35] Yeah.
[00:30:36] Something was happening with Banaka.
[00:30:37] Problem on Arca.
[00:30:38] So then the next scene is the King of the Mountain scene.
[00:30:42] So once a year, they crown the King of the Mountain.
[00:30:45] You have to snowboard down with a mug of beer in your hand.
[00:30:49] And whoever reaches Papa Munts' statue and slaps him on the ass first with the most amount
[00:30:54] of liquid in your cup wins King of the Mountain.
[00:30:58] I was watching that scene in disbelief because I was like, how they ain't dropping that alcohol?
[00:31:04] Why are they, if they're trying to win, doing flips and shit?
[00:31:07] Just go.
[00:31:08] Right.
[00:31:08] Right.
[00:31:09] So straight.
[00:31:10] I was just so concerned that someone was going to hurt their wrist or break something.
[00:31:15] I was like, this is not safe, guys.
[00:31:19] Not safe.
[00:31:20] But also, like, why is it that Anthony, it's a very black stereotype that he's the only
[00:31:29] one who can't snowboard?
[00:31:31] Yeah.
[00:31:32] Not for lack of trying.
[00:31:34] I just wanted to know Anthony's backstory.
[00:31:37] How did you get here, Anthony?
[00:31:39] How did you get a job and you're here for three years?
[00:31:42] Right.
[00:31:42] And you don't know how to snowboard.
[00:31:45] Also, why are you in Alaska?
[00:31:48] What did you do?
[00:31:51] I mean, why?
[00:31:53] Are you there?
[00:31:55] Lots of questions, but didn't love that, but was not surprised.
[00:32:01] Yeah.
[00:32:02] And, oh, and Rick wins because he takes a sip of beer and snowboards all the way down and
[00:32:10] then spits it back into his glass.
[00:32:11] And so he wins King of the Mountain again.
[00:32:15] I know you did not enjoy that part, Danielle.
[00:32:17] It was smart.
[00:32:19] Yeah.
[00:32:19] But nasty.
[00:32:21] Yeah.
[00:32:21] There's a couple issues I have with it, just from a logistic standpoint.
[00:32:25] One, didn't Papa Munst die like nine months earlier?
[00:32:31] So how is it like that everyone knows the rules at the end, you have to put your hand on
[00:32:37] the statue's ass?
[00:32:38] The statue's ass, which...
[00:32:40] Huh.
[00:32:41] This is an interesting question you pose.
[00:32:45] Maybe it was something he did while he was alive.
[00:32:49] Also, we don't know when the statue was made.
[00:32:53] I think it was made.
[00:32:54] I think it was made because he died.
[00:32:56] Yeah.
[00:32:56] Yeah.
[00:32:57] Fuck.
[00:32:57] I can't make...
[00:32:59] I can't make this one make sense.
[00:33:01] He's like, actual Papa Munst's ass.
[00:33:04] He's just on the bottom?
[00:33:06] Like bare ass?
[00:33:06] Yeah.
[00:33:07] He's just waiting for it?
[00:33:09] Maybe.
[00:33:10] Another thing, and this might be a little bit of a...
[00:33:13] Maybe you can make sense of it.
[00:33:15] But just to me, if I was there and this was what was going on, I would raise the hell about
[00:33:21] this and be like, I don't understand this.
[00:33:24] But he's the only...
[00:33:26] All these people are locals.
[00:33:29] They've lived there.
[00:33:30] They've worked there for years.
[00:33:31] And he's the only one that knows this shortcut.
[00:33:34] And people are like, how did...
[00:33:36] Where did he come from?
[00:33:37] Yeah.
[00:33:37] Someone says.
[00:33:38] And I'm like, I'm pretty sure if you guys live and work here every day that you would have
[00:33:45] seen him do this.
[00:33:46] Maybe he did it the year before.
[00:33:48] Like...
[00:33:48] Yeah.
[00:33:48] Right.
[00:33:49] It just was so just like, wow.
[00:33:51] Rick just knows this mountain like the back of his hand.
[00:33:55] And you're like, shut up.
[00:33:55] I think that they didn't...
[00:34:00] They didn't...
[00:34:01] Well, they didn't think it through.
[00:34:02] But they were trying to make his character like that awesome guy kind of thing.
[00:34:08] Or like...
[00:34:09] He's the guy that things happen for him, right?
[00:34:11] Right.
[00:34:11] Like things fall into his lap all the time.
[00:34:13] Yeah.
[00:34:13] But he didn't...
[00:34:14] Like the actor didn't play that right.
[00:34:17] And then the scenes in which they're trying to support that is weird.
[00:34:22] Just like that example.
[00:34:23] Like...
[00:34:24] And like...
[00:34:25] I can't figure out why someone like Jenny would be fawning over him.
[00:34:32] Yeah.
[00:34:33] Well, let's...
[00:34:33] Let's...
[00:34:34] Let's admit one thing.
[00:34:36] It had to be the little soul patch thing that he had.
[00:34:40] Right?
[00:34:41] Like...
[00:34:42] A hundred percent.
[00:34:43] How long was that a thing?
[00:34:45] Like I remember it being a thing, but it was short-lived, right?
[00:34:49] I...
[00:34:50] I hated it.
[00:34:51] So I was probably like, no.
[00:34:55] I'm pretty sure it was like someone tried to make it a thing.
[00:34:58] Yeah.
[00:34:59] And it was like a year.
[00:34:59] Because I remember it in movies.
[00:35:01] And I do remember that being like...
[00:35:03] It was...
[00:35:04] I think they quickly went to the goatee after that.
[00:35:07] And they were like, this doesn't work.
[00:35:08] I don't recall.
[00:35:10] I know I saw it in movies and stuff.
[00:35:12] But I think around this time, I was at a black school.
[00:35:17] So I was very invested in dating black men.
[00:35:20] Sure.
[00:35:20] And that was not happening.
[00:35:21] No.
[00:35:21] So I don't think it was as big of an issue.
[00:35:24] But now looking back, I'm like, what is that dirt on your shin?
[00:35:29] Either grow it out or shave it off.
[00:35:31] Right.
[00:35:33] Oh, the actress who plays...
[00:35:36] Oh, God.
[00:35:37] Anna?
[00:35:38] Yeah.
[00:35:39] Uh-huh.
[00:35:39] Is she really French?
[00:35:41] Because I was like, this accent is Canada.
[00:35:45] I think she's just Canadian.
[00:35:45] Yeah.
[00:35:45] Girl, that was horrible.
[00:35:47] Sometimes...
[00:35:48] Yeah, there was definitely parts where she wasn't French.
[00:35:50] No accent.
[00:35:51] Yeah.
[00:35:52] And I was like, hold on.
[00:35:54] Even if you're holding it.
[00:35:55] At the end, I remember she was French.
[00:35:56] Yeah.
[00:35:56] I'm pretty sure there was some areas where she wasn't speaking French.
[00:36:00] And I just feel like it was so unnecessary.
[00:36:02] It didn't need to be...
[00:36:03] It was for one joke.
[00:36:05] I think so many things in this movie were for a joke.
[00:36:08] Yeah.
[00:36:09] Like, they were really big on...
[00:36:10] So the joke about how he's making his way through Europe,
[00:36:14] thinking he's a philanthropist,
[00:36:16] that was for Inga and Anna.
[00:36:19] And it was like...
[00:36:20] And now I have a Russian, you know, whatever.
[00:36:25] Secretary or something.
[00:36:26] And I was confused.
[00:36:27] Like, is he married to Inga's mom now?
[00:36:30] Or is that his daughter?
[00:36:31] Because she said stepsister.
[00:36:33] And I'm like, that's...
[00:36:35] She is his stepdaughter.
[00:36:37] And that is her stepfather.
[00:36:38] Yeah, she says, it's my stepfather, is how she says.
[00:36:41] What the fuck?
[00:36:42] Yeah.
[00:36:44] I've seen this movie so many times.
[00:36:46] When I watched it last night, I realized...
[00:36:48] I had, like, a notepad.
[00:36:50] I'm like, oh, I'm gonna...
[00:36:50] I'm like, I don't need this.
[00:36:52] What?
[00:36:52] I'm putting fake French accents...
[00:36:58] Yeah.
[00:36:58] I like it.
[00:36:59] ...in the burn book.
[00:37:00] The directors did say that the London boy was the only one that really got at least proficient with snowboarding.
[00:37:09] The rest...
[00:37:11] Zach Galifianakis apparently didn't even try.
[00:37:14] And so, like, anytime they show him snowboarding, he's just, like, standing on a sled.
[00:37:19] And they're, like, towing him.
[00:37:21] Amazing.
[00:37:21] Or it's a snowboarder double.
[00:37:26] Wow.
[00:37:27] Now, when you look at this cast...
[00:37:29] Yeah.
[00:37:29] ...back in the day, if I were to ask you in 2001, who was going to be the most famous out of this group, who do you think you would have said?
[00:37:40] Clean majors?
[00:37:41] Clean majors?
[00:37:47] Oh, man.
[00:37:49] I feel like Willie Garson, because he was already on Sex and the City at the time.
[00:37:56] Yeah.
[00:37:56] I would have said Jason London, because I thought them London boys were gonna do things.
[00:38:01] They did things.
[00:38:03] They did do things.
[00:38:04] They did.
[00:38:06] So then we see kind of just the characters' interactions with each other after Rick wins King of the Mountain.
[00:38:14] We see that Jenny is pining over Rick, and she's just kind of, like, an afterthought, because he's still pining over this chick he met in Mexico for spring break.
[00:38:26] And they had a whirlwind romance.
[00:38:29] Yeah.
[00:38:29] I don't know.
[00:38:29] He was with her for three weeks.
[00:38:31] Yeah.
[00:38:32] No, it was pretty weird.
[00:38:33] It was.
[00:38:34] It's pretty weird.
[00:38:35] It was really weird.
[00:38:36] And also, do you know I hit rewind or went back because I was like, oh, I missed the scene where she cusses ass out for leaving her at the restaurant?
[00:38:48] Nope.
[00:38:49] I was like, why did I see that?
[00:38:50] Because it has to happen.
[00:38:53] You know, the thing that this movie is missing is, like, character arc for Rick.
[00:38:58] Yeah.
[00:38:59] Really, he never has a moment.
[00:39:01] Other than his Casablanca moment where he tells her to get on the plane.
[00:39:05] Yeah.
[00:39:06] He never changes.
[00:39:09] And then they end up together.
[00:39:11] And I'm like, I think even as a teen, I was like, I don't know.
[00:39:17] Why would they get together?
[00:39:19] Why would she be okay with getting together with him now?
[00:39:22] Like, he was so obvious.
[00:39:24] Because you're a decent person.
[00:39:25] Yeah.
[00:39:25] The bar is really low.
[00:39:27] Well, also, he won King of the Mountain and he has a soul patch.
[00:39:29] I get it.
[00:39:30] I don't get it.
[00:39:32] Girl.
[00:39:32] A lot.
[00:39:33] Like, that's what I wanted to say to her.
[00:39:35] Girl.
[00:39:35] Alaska is filled with men.
[00:39:39] Not Bull Mountain, though.
[00:39:40] There's more men than women.
[00:39:42] You need to let go of this man.
[00:39:45] That's true.
[00:39:45] Find yourself a lumberjack.
[00:39:47] Yes.
[00:39:48] And she's like, oh, it's not going to be, you're going to have to work hard.
[00:39:52] Apparently not, bitch.
[00:39:53] Yeah.
[00:39:54] It's true.
[00:39:55] She does say, like, you're going to have to work harder than that.
[00:39:58] And it's like, he didn't have to work that hard.
[00:40:01] Yeah, he's just laughing.
[00:40:02] He's like, okay, bitch.
[00:40:03] We'll see.
[00:40:04] Take them panties off.
[00:40:06] You know, like, it's nothing.
[00:40:08] Wow.
[00:40:09] So crazy.
[00:40:11] I'm still waiting for that scene.
[00:40:14] It's a deleted scene.
[00:40:15] Yes.
[00:40:16] I'm trying to, we've talked about some of this stuff.
[00:40:19] We jump around when we have Ron on the podcast.
[00:40:22] No, we jump around all the time.
[00:40:25] This is normal.
[00:40:26] We have Pigpen is passed out on a bench dreaming of the solid gold dancers.
[00:40:34] Yep.
[00:40:35] Mm-hmm.
[00:40:35] And there's a little bit, hey, there was definitely a little nip slip in there.
[00:40:41] There was.
[00:40:42] So you did get some boobs.
[00:40:44] I was like, oh, we about to see a bunch of TVs.
[00:40:47] That's where that comes, right?
[00:40:49] In most movies like that, you're like, it's the extras.
[00:40:52] We don't have to pay them a lot.
[00:40:54] Exactly.
[00:40:54] There's, you know, it's the early 2000s.
[00:40:56] Everyone take your top off.
[00:40:58] And no.
[00:41:00] And then no payoff.
[00:41:02] No.
[00:41:02] In fact, the person on the front, if you notice, still has their top on.
[00:41:07] Yes.
[00:41:08] So that was like another, like, oh, they're not doing that.
[00:41:11] I think as a teenager, you go like, oh, we're not going to get what we came to see.
[00:41:16] Yeah.
[00:41:17] Yeah.
[00:41:17] I do really love the threat.
[00:41:22] Like, it's a very quick line where Zach Galifianakis' character Luke comments that he's had a crush on that bench for a long time.
[00:41:32] Because Pigpen is like literally passed out humping the bench.
[00:41:35] And I just love that line.
[00:41:38] It's so, and because it's quiet and they move past it so fast, it's so good.
[00:41:41] I worry about how much cold and ice exposure these characters had.
[00:41:50] They did.
[00:41:51] Like.
[00:41:51] He would be dead in the hot tub scene.
[00:41:53] So, the hot tub and overnight.
[00:41:57] They said it was two degrees when they shot that scene.
[00:42:00] That's wild.
[00:42:02] Yeah.
[00:42:03] You could kind of tell too, through most of the movie, many of the people, especially the people with facial hair, had like actual like frozen hair.
[00:42:11] Yes.
[00:42:12] All over their lips and stuff.
[00:42:13] Yeah.
[00:42:14] Yeah.
[00:42:14] We do get the flashback around this time of how Rick met Anna at Pedro L. Hornies and spent a magical.
[00:42:27] Three weeks.
[00:42:28] Three weeks together.
[00:42:29] And they do comment on it because they're like, everything that you see in the movie, like snow wise, all of the snow scenes, none of it's green screen.
[00:42:39] He's like, it looks like it because it's so beautiful, but everything was like shot on the ocean.
[00:42:45] There were some scenes where it was like snowing.
[00:42:47] Yes.
[00:42:47] Right.
[00:42:48] Hard.
[00:42:48] Yeah.
[00:42:49] But they're like, and if you couldn't tell, all of the scenes in Mexico were green screen.
[00:42:56] And they were kind of poking fun of the fact that they like went real low budge on the flashback.
[00:43:03] I thought it was fitting.
[00:43:05] I loved because it reminded me of like those old 60s movies where they won, especially the surfing part.
[00:43:11] Yeah.
[00:43:12] Or him riding a tandem bike by himself.
[00:43:16] Right.
[00:43:17] That's funny.
[00:43:18] So we get the backstory from that.
[00:43:21] He's telling it while he's driving in the car.
[00:43:24] And apparently Zach Galifianakis memorized zero lines.
[00:43:28] And so he always had his script with him.
[00:43:31] Oh my God.
[00:43:31] And they said in that car scene, there are a couple of times you can see it in his lap.
[00:43:36] And then when he would improvise, sometimes he would hit Rick with the script.
[00:43:43] So this is when Rick is finally like, I have to get over Hannah.
[00:43:49] And so he asks Jenny out on a date to go to dinner.
[00:43:54] And then they're in the bar before Rick has to go meet Jenny, I'm assuming.
[00:44:01] And in walks out of all of the bars in all the ski towns in Alaska.
[00:44:07] All the gin joints in all the world.
[00:44:10] Anna.
[00:44:11] And so she actually sees Luke first and she's like, play the song, play the song.
[00:44:16] And so Luke begrudgingly please Island in the Sun by Weezer.
[00:44:23] And Rick comes stomping around the corner like, I told you that was banned from this bar.
[00:44:28] And he sees Anna and his little mind explodes because it's the love of his life has returned.
[00:44:35] We find out that she's the daughter of Lee Major's character.
[00:44:41] Who is his name?
[00:44:42] John Major.
[00:44:43] John Major.
[00:44:43] I was like, oh, we really just not trying to come up with a name?
[00:44:47] No, they actually said they had the character name before he was cast.
[00:44:51] And they're like, oh, that was a nice coincidence that like, you're still in Majors.
[00:44:58] Yeah, he saved this movie for me.
[00:45:03] At some point we can introduce to John Majors, the guy who wants to buy Bull Mountain.
[00:45:10] And Eric is like trying to suck up to him.
[00:45:13] He does not like him.
[00:45:15] He's creeped out.
[00:45:16] But he does like tolerate Ted Months who's selling the plays.
[00:45:25] But he calls him the R word the entire movie.
[00:45:29] So many times.
[00:45:30] And I hate it.
[00:45:32] When it was that and there was one drop of the F bomb that made me very uncomfortable.
[00:45:39] And I was like, oh, my gosh, we used to say that all the time.
[00:45:43] And yeah, that I think until that moment, I had this this feeling because every time I watch these movies over, I'm like, I'm going to be disappointed.
[00:45:53] Like, right.
[00:45:54] Where I'm going to be like, I'm going to be really upset about this.
[00:45:57] And it's not going to hold up.
[00:45:59] And I was like, I think this movie holds up.
[00:46:01] I think I was excited.
[00:46:06] Like, if we could just eliminate the line with the F word because it didn't even need to be in the movie.
[00:46:14] It wasn't even that funny of a joke.
[00:46:16] It wasn't a memorable joke.
[00:46:18] No.
[00:46:18] And it was so inclusive.
[00:46:20] Like when what's his name?
[00:46:22] So much.
[00:46:22] Lance finally comes out because like it's inferred that he is gay.
[00:46:26] Yeah.
[00:46:27] And they have it as a running joke.
[00:46:28] But when they finally just like, look, you're gay.
[00:46:32] Everyone knows.
[00:46:33] And no one cares.
[00:46:35] No one cares.
[00:46:35] I mean, it was pretty.
[00:46:37] Yeah.
[00:46:37] It wasn't perfect.
[00:46:38] No, it wasn't perfect.
[00:46:40] I was like.
[00:46:41] Oh, that's pretty good.
[00:46:43] Yeah.
[00:46:45] It could.
[00:46:45] This movie could have been more problematic.
[00:46:48] Yes.
[00:46:49] A hundred percent.
[00:46:50] It was very light.
[00:46:51] That's giving me like a.
[00:46:53] Yeah.
[00:46:53] Yeah.
[00:46:54] So I think like if we could just go through and just.
[00:46:58] Andy.
[00:46:59] The nickname he gives to Ted months.
[00:47:02] And then remove that one line.
[00:47:04] Like.
[00:47:05] A hundred percent holds up.
[00:47:06] Like.
[00:47:06] They could probably.
[00:47:08] The.
[00:47:08] I think the point behind it is that.
[00:47:11] You know.
[00:47:12] He's being completely disrespected.
[00:47:15] Yes.
[00:47:15] And he's a pushover.
[00:47:18] And you can.
[00:47:20] Find other ways to explain that.
[00:47:22] Exactly.
[00:47:23] But yeah.
[00:47:24] Oh, I finally remember what movie I thought this was.
[00:47:30] It's the 1991 movie called Ski School.
[00:47:34] Yeah.
[00:47:35] I've watched Ski School.
[00:47:36] That's what I thought.
[00:47:37] Because I remember it used to be on HBO all the time.
[00:47:40] And I'm like.
[00:47:40] We're going to watch that.
[00:47:42] I don't know why I didn't like realize.
[00:47:44] Oh, that was in the early 90s.
[00:47:45] But like.
[00:47:46] That is what I kept thinking about with this movie.
[00:47:48] I mean.
[00:47:48] It's all the same stuff, right?
[00:47:50] It's like Caddyshack.
[00:47:51] It's like.
[00:47:52] Yeah.
[00:47:53] It's a lot of hijinks.
[00:47:56] But I couldn't figure it out.
[00:47:57] But now that I could lay that to rest.
[00:47:59] Sorry.
[00:48:00] No worries.
[00:48:01] So Jenny stood up for dinner.
[00:48:03] Because Anna shows up.
[00:48:05] There is a running gag through the whole movie.
[00:48:07] That Luke always gets too drunk and passes out.
[00:48:11] So towards the beginning of the movie.
[00:48:13] It's the polar bear scene.
[00:48:15] And this particular night is the most memorable scene.
[00:48:19] In my opinion of the movie.
[00:48:20] They put him in Rick's Dodge Charger.
[00:48:24] Yeah.
[00:48:25] It's the best scene ever.
[00:48:26] It's so good.
[00:48:27] A couple of them hop in the car with him.
[00:48:30] He's in the driver's seat.
[00:48:31] Passed out.
[00:48:32] And a couple of other dudes spin the car.
[00:48:35] And everyone in the car starts screaming.
[00:48:37] So he wakes up.
[00:48:38] He's like trying to.
[00:48:39] I like.
[00:48:40] It's the funniest thing.
[00:48:41] I remember it then.
[00:48:43] I remember watching it now.
[00:48:44] I'm like it's brilliant.
[00:48:45] Yes.
[00:48:46] I think I missed that scene.
[00:48:47] I'm going to be honest.
[00:48:48] I don't know how.
[00:48:50] But I don't recall.
[00:48:52] They're just spinning.
[00:48:52] The car's spinning.
[00:48:53] And then one, two, three.
[00:48:56] And he's just.
[00:48:57] And he's like trying to like.
[00:48:59] So good.
[00:49:00] Danielle, you missed like probably the best scene of the movie.
[00:49:03] Sorry.
[00:49:04] And I love that both of you guys were doing these crazy gyrations just now that are going to be great gifs.
[00:49:10] Jackie was like this.
[00:49:12] And Ron was like.
[00:49:14] That's so funny.
[00:49:15] So good.
[00:49:16] The next day is we when we kind of find out major's plan for the town, he's going to create a new name called snow nook because it tested best in his focus groups.
[00:49:33] And.
[00:49:35] I know I like I feel like major could have been more diabolical.
[00:49:42] Yeah, he takes a liking to Rick and he's very nice to Rick.
[00:49:47] And kind of, you know, makes it say like you're going to be my right hand guy or whatever.
[00:49:53] And although you know that he wants to get rid of the rest of the guys.
[00:49:58] And I don't know.
[00:49:59] I just felt like there could have been more of a falling out.
[00:50:03] Like, you know, everyone.
[00:50:04] Do something worse.
[00:50:06] Yeah.
[00:50:06] There could have been more of a.
[00:50:07] Yeah.
[00:50:08] Or like Rick is on a pedestal and it could have been like Rick is really feeding up to majors.
[00:50:14] And then majors keeps doing all this stuff like they didn't really pile on that whole.
[00:50:20] Yeah.
[00:50:20] Like they didn't bring that all the way through.
[00:50:22] So it felt disjointed.
[00:50:23] Yeah.
[00:50:25] The one.
[00:50:26] Slot hole that I found in this stellar movie was why would he do all of these renovations before signing the contract to purchase the town?
[00:50:37] So the only thing that I can think of for this is that he it's a lot of money and he is a businessman who doesn't have all of the money.
[00:50:49] But he has investors and he has to pitch the investors on it.
[00:50:54] They do kind of speed it up.
[00:50:56] But I do think a lot of what ends up happening is, you know, when people are selling places, they do make changes.
[00:51:03] Maybe not the renovations, but like there are some things that start to happen so that it looks good for the sale.
[00:51:10] And everyone agrees to it.
[00:51:12] And he could have put it on the actual owner to say, hey, we're going to sell this.
[00:51:17] If you're on board with me buying, I need to get these buyers.
[00:51:20] You need to make these adjustments.
[00:51:22] So he might not have even paid for it himself.
[00:51:25] Yeah.
[00:51:25] Yeah.
[00:51:26] It's just kind of part of it when you're dealing with that much money.
[00:51:29] I think it makes sense.
[00:51:31] But yeah, it's.
[00:51:36] I never understood the motivation of the guy, the guy's ruining it, ruining the sale.
[00:51:44] Like.
[00:51:46] What happens next?
[00:51:48] Like, he's just going to bring more people to try to buy it each time.
[00:51:51] I think he learned his lesson because he got his little.
[00:51:53] At the end.
[00:51:54] Yeah.
[00:51:55] His fight, which is so funny.
[00:51:57] He had a jacket.
[00:51:57] They had to specially make that jacket, in my opinion, because it was like his shoulders were too high.
[00:52:06] And so he's like this and he's just like punching.
[00:52:09] And he's like.
[00:52:10] You.
[00:52:11] Me.
[00:52:12] And it was just really good.
[00:52:15] I wonder if that was just a character choice he made where I'm like, I'm just going to walk around like this.
[00:52:19] Yeah.
[00:52:21] And it's funny because when we.
[00:52:24] All this stuff is happening, but then we meet Anna.
[00:52:28] Then there's all these interactions with them.
[00:52:31] We.
[00:52:32] Again, we don't get Jenny being pissed at all about anything.
[00:52:36] And so then we find out Anna has like a fiance this whole time, even when she's fucking cheating on him.
[00:52:44] So that's the other thing, too.
[00:52:47] And we never really find out if we're going to like not to jump far ahead.
[00:52:51] But like the night before she leaves on the plane, do they end up together?
[00:52:56] Because like it's like, well, what about what you said last night?
[00:52:59] And they were dancing together and they kind of left together.
[00:53:04] And she said she had no underwear.
[00:53:06] Like.
[00:53:07] Yeah.
[00:53:09] She was.
[00:53:11] Very inappropriately over the line with hanging out with.
[00:53:16] Rick, because he was he was being strung along by her, in my opinion.
[00:53:21] Yeah.
[00:53:21] Where she just kept kept him on.
[00:53:24] I'm going to come to your house and we're going to talk and I'm going to throw a snowball at you.
[00:53:29] And now.
[00:53:29] Yeah.
[00:53:30] OK, come on into my house and make yourself at home.
[00:53:33] Yeah.
[00:53:33] Probably going to bone.
[00:53:34] Yeah.
[00:53:34] But like it's it was so strange.
[00:53:37] And maybe it's my own just opinions of people putting on this.
[00:53:44] But at least the chemistry did not feel like he would have picked her over Jenny.
[00:53:50] Yeah.
[00:53:51] And that also was unbelievable to me.
[00:53:53] I'm just like, I don't get what is so great about her.
[00:53:55] She seems like a bitch.
[00:53:57] Yeah.
[00:53:57] And it wasn't even that.
[00:53:59] It was what she was doing just was not anything that showed me he was in love with her.
[00:54:04] Right.
[00:54:04] Exactly.
[00:54:04] And she was in love with him.
[00:54:06] And then when we finally meet her boyfriend, we find out he's in med school and he's a pilot, but he's also in a wheelchair.
[00:54:14] That scene when they're like all ready to like come and beat this guy up.
[00:54:20] And then he rolls out and they're like, they're like, we don't feel comfortable with this anymore.
[00:54:25] I don't think this is.
[00:54:26] And then they say something about how he can't feel his legs in pig pen.
[00:54:31] She's like so hard in the legs.
[00:54:33] Oh my God.
[00:54:34] Oh my God.
[00:54:35] Oh my God.
[00:54:35] Now knowing that he's a boxer.
[00:54:38] Oh my God.
[00:54:39] Yeah.
[00:54:39] That.
[00:54:40] And he goes, he goes, what?
[00:54:42] He can't feel it.
[00:54:43] And it was, that was also like a subverted thing that they did because usually when there is this other guy, there is like that guy's usually like an a-hole.
[00:54:55] Right.
[00:54:56] Yeah.
[00:54:56] He was very sweet and cool all the way down to the end.
[00:55:00] Yeah.
[00:55:01] And so it's just like, what the fuck?
[00:55:03] There was definitely moments where they were like, what's so funny about this movie is I just learned yesterday because I've never watched Casablanca that it was paying homage to it.
[00:55:15] And I even saw a clip of scenes side by side where they just basically did the scenes from Casablanca, just changed the content for this movie.
[00:55:26] Yeah.
[00:55:26] And none of it is necessary.
[00:55:30] Yeah.
[00:55:31] For the plot whatsoever.
[00:55:33] And it felt like they just rushed that part of it to do the Casablanca scenes.
[00:55:40] We could have just had the plot of Saving Bull Mountain.
[00:55:45] Yes.
[00:55:46] Like we didn't need this weird love triangle where no one seems really interested in the other person.
[00:55:54] It sounds like somebody did a save, you know, the way things are movie, which is done all the time.
[00:56:05] Like keep things the way that is.
[00:56:07] And then someone's like, this isn't going to get made.
[00:56:09] And then they were like, well, 10 things I hate about you did this thing where they were basically made it, you know, a Shakespeare.
[00:56:18] And they're like, what about Casablanca?
[00:56:20] It's like, got it.
[00:56:22] Three scenes.
[00:56:23] Let's just fucking plug it in right there.
[00:56:25] You horn them in.
[00:56:27] Because here's the thing.
[00:56:28] As much as I said at the beginning of this that my Y2K version of myself was obsessed with this movie.
[00:56:35] And I still love this movie.
[00:56:36] The Y2K version of myself did not understand what made the good movie.
[00:56:40] Yeah.
[00:56:41] Because the plot of this movie is not good.
[00:56:43] Like I was saying it to Gwen.
[00:56:45] I was like, this isn't, the acting's not great.
[00:56:48] Some moments it is, right?
[00:56:50] The plot, not awesome.
[00:56:53] Yeah.
[00:56:55] But, oh, did that just turn on?
[00:56:57] That was weird.
[00:56:58] But the, like, the one-liners and the comedy of it I think is just so clever.
[00:57:07] And I think the camaraderie.
[00:57:08] Like the way the characters interacted with one another.
[00:57:13] Felt like they were all friends.
[00:57:15] Yes, definitely.
[00:57:16] Yeah.
[00:57:17] Yeah.
[00:57:18] So, the next scene is the lesbian chat room scene.
[00:57:23] Another standout scene.
[00:57:25] It's funny, but also, like, it never, nothing ever happens.
[00:57:32] It would have been funny if they met.
[00:57:35] And then they, you know, they realized.
[00:57:37] Have you been watching the same movie?
[00:57:39] It's not about making any connections.
[00:57:41] No.
[00:57:41] It's just about making any connections.
[00:57:43] Yeah.
[00:57:44] I'm just so confused.
[00:57:47] I just.
[00:57:48] Does that keep saying awesome?
[00:57:50] Awesome.
[00:57:50] But I feel like this scene is exactly what online dating is like.
[00:57:57] Yeah.
[00:57:58] I could pull up right now just strings of conversation where, as a woman, I am asking questions.
[00:58:08] And the man is like, yeah.
[00:58:12] Okay.
[00:58:13] Or KK.
[00:58:15] Bitch.
[00:58:16] What is this?
[00:58:18] Do you want to get to know me?
[00:58:21] I love how.
[00:58:22] I don't remember his name, but the guy that ends up.
[00:58:26] There's an ass, too.
[00:58:28] Yes.
[00:58:28] In that scene.
[00:58:29] Aaron.
[00:58:30] But he, the way that he talks is the way that he types.
[00:58:34] I just love that they don't try to like pretend that they're women.
[00:58:38] They just are themselves.
[00:58:40] Yeah.
[00:58:40] And it's so funny how it like intertwines.
[00:58:43] It's.
[00:58:44] And Eric has like champagne.
[00:58:47] He has like a candle.
[00:58:49] Like he is making an evening of this.
[00:58:51] And Pigpen wanders into an unlocker.
[00:58:55] The truth is like.
[00:58:56] Awesome.
[00:58:57] And he just writes awesome.
[00:58:59] Awesome.
[00:59:00] Awesome.
[00:59:00] Awesome.
[00:59:01] Awesome.
[00:59:02] Awesome.
[00:59:02] And I'm like, this is my life.
[00:59:06] And apparently Thomas Lennon had it written into his contract that he got to do a bare ass scene.
[00:59:13] Of course he did.
[00:59:15] I love that this was before.
[00:59:17] This was before Reno 911, right?
[00:59:20] Yeah.
[00:59:21] I'm pretty sure.
[00:59:22] I love him so much in that show.
[00:59:25] He's so funny.
[00:59:26] Is he new boot goofing?
[00:59:29] Is that him?
[00:59:30] No.
[00:59:30] Yes.
[00:59:31] Is that the other guy?
[00:59:31] Yes.
[00:59:32] It is.
[00:59:33] Okay.
[00:59:34] 2003 is Reno 911.
[00:59:35] Okay.
[00:59:36] Okay.
[00:59:37] So we, that scene did make me laugh.
[00:59:40] I think I laughed three times in this movie.
[00:59:42] Okay.
[00:59:43] How much did you, how much did it upset you, the scene where they show the men's room and
[00:59:52] it's just outside?
[00:59:53] So upset.
[00:59:54] So upset.
[00:59:55] Because, okay, here's a real question.
[00:59:58] Do men not wash their hands when they pee?
[01:00:02] No.
[01:00:03] Just kidding.
[01:00:06] So, okay.
[01:00:07] This is a really interesting discussion here.
[01:00:10] I will tell you this.
[01:00:12] Since having a baby, yes.
[01:00:15] Before, it depends.
[01:00:19] And this is just honest.
[01:00:21] I commend you.
[01:00:22] It's a safe space here.
[01:00:26] I commend that you're being honest and I appreciate the honesty.
[01:00:30] But yes, I was appalled that they go outside and they, I'm like, first of all, it's so cold
[01:00:36] outside.
[01:00:37] This is your most precious, valuable thing.
[01:00:40] And you're going to expose it to the elements like that?
[01:00:43] Crazy.
[01:00:44] All right.
[01:00:45] So what's next?
[01:00:46] So I do really love that Inga calls Pigpen ping pong.
[01:00:54] That just makes me think of the ping pong pussy show.
[01:00:59] From Thailand.
[01:01:02] The amount of times that gets brought up on this podcast.
[01:01:05] It is memorable.
[01:01:11] I have a sign holding.
[01:01:13] I have a sign that it's me where it says ping pong pussy show.
[01:01:18] It's amazing.
[01:01:19] It's a canon event.
[01:01:22] The next scene is the hot tub scene with Luke and Inga.
[01:01:26] And so they're like making out.
[01:01:28] Amazing that Zach Elefanakis gets to make out with Victoria Solstead.
[01:01:33] As much as he did.
[01:01:34] And in the bloopers too, she was licking his face.
[01:01:38] She was all in.
[01:01:38] And I'm like, incredible.
[01:01:41] But then it's schluffy time.
[01:01:44] No, schluffy time.
[01:01:45] Schlieppenstein.
[01:01:46] Yeah.
[01:01:47] So he gets excited thinking it's time for.
[01:01:51] Schleppen.
[01:01:53] Schleppen.
[01:01:54] And she's like, no, schluffy bye.
[01:01:58] Time to go to bed.
[01:01:59] And so she gets out of the hot tub.
[01:02:01] He's very disappointed.
[01:02:03] But then he realizes the jets feel nice.
[01:02:08] And yeah.
[01:02:10] And there's a hole.
[01:02:10] He's just been making out and dry humping for hours.
[01:02:12] Yes.
[01:02:13] For all we know.
[01:02:14] And so there's a hole.
[01:02:16] And it's penis sized.
[01:02:20] Oh my gosh.
[01:02:21] The way I cringed when I heard the.
[01:02:26] The sound.
[01:02:28] The sound.
[01:02:28] And then the like cork pop sound the next day when Stumpy comes by and rescues him.
[01:02:33] He comes by with like the like hedge clippers and the fucking like.
[01:02:38] Drinks straight rubbing alcohol.
[01:02:40] He's.
[01:02:41] He also is I think one of the best parts of that movie.
[01:02:44] Yes.
[01:02:45] Stumpy has some moments that are just glorious.
[01:02:49] The only other person I could see playing that role is Quaid.
[01:02:53] Yeah.
[01:02:53] That is Quaid's younger brother.
[01:02:54] Yeah.
[01:02:55] Probably.
[01:02:55] Randy.
[01:02:56] Yeah.
[01:02:57] That makes sense.
[01:02:59] Unbelievable.
[01:03:01] Then is the drug testing scene.
[01:03:05] You go bathroom in the cup.
[01:03:08] Pig pen follows directions.
[01:03:10] I don't need.
[01:03:11] I don't need to take a test to let you know I do drugs.
[01:03:16] Who took a shit and put it in the pig pen?
[01:03:19] Pig pen.
[01:03:19] Oh my God.
[01:03:20] Then he comes out and he's like holding his stomach like he's like.
[01:03:25] So good.
[01:03:27] So I thought.
[01:03:28] Go ahead.
[01:03:30] No.
[01:03:30] I thought I saw a scene where they had like a bowl or like a.
[01:03:33] Animal or something.
[01:03:34] So I thought they were trying to get the animals pee for the urine test.
[01:03:37] But I think I made that up in my head.
[01:03:40] It'd be smart.
[01:03:41] Yeah.
[01:03:42] Okay.
[01:03:43] So apparently.
[01:03:44] The Malloy brothers.
[01:03:47] Their whole family is obsessed with like.
[01:03:50] Boop.
[01:03:53] And so.
[01:03:54] They tell a story about.
[01:03:56] Brendan.
[01:03:57] Is that even one of the brothers or is that a random.
[01:04:00] Yeah.
[01:04:01] Brendan.
[01:04:02] One of the directors.
[01:04:02] His Christmas card.
[01:04:04] One year was an essay shaped shit in a toilet.
[01:04:09] And they use that as the beginning of seasons greetings.
[01:04:13] And that's what they sent as their Christmas card.
[01:04:16] One year.
[01:04:17] Amazing.
[01:04:18] And then Grandma Rose tells a tale of how.
[01:04:22] The fascination with poop started with their grandfather.
[01:04:27] Who would go to bet on the ponies.
[01:04:29] And he would bet on whichever horse.
[01:04:33] Had shit the.
[01:04:35] The most recent.
[01:04:36] Most recently.
[01:04:38] And they're like.
[01:04:39] It was a solid strategy.
[01:04:41] Because he won more often than he lost.
[01:04:45] So.
[01:04:46] Wow.
[01:04:47] The family that shares shit together.
[01:04:50] Makes alcohol together.
[01:04:52] I.
[01:04:53] Have a lot to say.
[01:04:55] But I.
[01:04:56] Am going to not say anything.
[01:04:59] Because I believe.
[01:05:00] This all.
[01:05:01] Is speaking for itself.
[01:05:03] Yes.
[01:05:04] That is also why we get the scene with.
[01:05:06] Anthony in bed.
[01:05:07] With the no name chick.
[01:05:09] And she rolls over and farts on him.
[01:05:11] Yeah.
[01:05:11] After the party.
[01:05:12] Yeah.
[01:05:12] God forbid a woman farts.
[01:05:14] My God.
[01:05:15] Yeah.
[01:05:16] So.
[01:05:17] Backtracking a little bit.
[01:05:18] The El Matador is now the powder room.
[01:05:21] And they're hosting a private party.
[01:05:24] Rick is invited.
[01:05:25] He's dressed like Indiana Jones.
[01:05:27] He's dressed like.
[01:05:28] Casa Blanca.
[01:05:30] Ah.
[01:05:30] That makes sense.
[01:05:32] Yeah.
[01:05:32] But also Indiana Jones.
[01:05:34] And he's dancing with Anna.
[01:05:36] And like everyone's having a good time.
[01:05:38] Essentially.
[01:05:38] Majors is schmoozing all of the potential.
[01:05:41] Investors that are there.
[01:05:43] This is also the scene where Majors asks Rick.
[01:05:46] To be the manager of the mountain.
[01:05:48] And Rick says yes.
[01:05:49] On one condition.
[01:05:50] That you don't fire my friends.
[01:05:52] Essentially.
[01:05:54] And the next day.
[01:05:55] He does fire his friends.
[01:05:57] Well that.
[01:05:58] I think that was just like the.
[01:06:00] It was too easy.
[01:06:01] Right.
[01:06:01] Yeah.
[01:06:02] He didn't.
[01:06:02] He like.
[01:06:04] Set an expectation.
[01:06:06] And it was broken.
[01:06:07] So that's why he tore it up.
[01:06:09] Which like.
[01:06:11] Almost.
[01:06:11] To me.
[01:06:12] Ruins it.
[01:06:13] Like.
[01:06:14] It would have liked it better.
[01:06:15] If Majors kept like.
[01:06:17] Playing by the rules.
[01:06:18] But like.
[01:06:18] Yeah.
[01:06:18] Pushing it.
[01:06:19] And pushing it.
[01:06:20] And pushing it.
[01:06:20] To where he just was like.
[01:06:21] Wow.
[01:06:22] This dude actually does suck.
[01:06:23] Fuck you.
[01:06:24] Yeah.
[01:06:24] Yes.
[01:06:25] Didn't fire them.
[01:06:26] But like.
[01:06:27] Demoted them.
[01:06:28] Where they couldn't.
[01:06:28] Or kept like.
[01:06:29] Snowboard on.
[01:06:30] Right.
[01:06:31] Just kept doing.
[01:06:32] Shitty stuff.
[01:06:33] Right.
[01:06:34] Yeah.
[01:06:34] Yeah.
[01:06:34] That whole thing wasn't thought out.
[01:06:36] And.
[01:06:37] I was just always.
[01:06:39] Confused.
[01:06:40] But there was one scene.
[01:06:42] That made me laugh.
[01:06:43] When.
[01:06:44] He gave him.
[01:06:46] His.
[01:06:46] I think.
[01:06:47] A gift or something.
[01:06:48] I think.
[01:06:49] What was the gift?
[01:06:50] Was it the suit?
[01:06:51] The hat.
[01:06:51] Oh right.
[01:06:52] So when he.
[01:06:53] He says.
[01:06:55] I got a little present for you.
[01:06:56] Blah blah blah.
[01:06:56] Blah.
[01:06:57] And he's like.
[01:06:58] Okay.
[01:06:59] Thanks.
[01:06:59] Yeah.
[01:07:00] And then he looks at the card.
[01:07:01] And it's literally.
[01:07:03] Word for word.
[01:07:04] What he already just said.
[01:07:05] And then he's like.
[01:07:06] I'm not good with words.
[01:07:09] I'm not good at this sort of thing.
[01:07:10] Or I forget.
[01:07:11] But oh.
[01:07:11] It's so good.
[01:07:11] It made me laugh.
[01:07:13] Okay.
[01:07:13] That's a funny part.
[01:07:14] Yeah.
[01:07:15] It's probably the 13th funniest thing in the movie.
[01:07:18] Dang.
[01:07:21] But I mean.
[01:07:21] She missed the funniest thing in the movie.
[01:07:24] So.
[01:07:25] Yeah.
[01:07:25] It's true.
[01:07:27] Okay.
[01:07:28] Oh man.
[01:07:29] So all of the friends are not.
[01:07:32] Able to go into the powder room.
[01:07:34] So they decide to have a house party.
[01:07:36] At Pigpen and Luke's house.
[01:07:39] And there's just a bunch of debauchery.
[01:07:42] And Luke ends up passing out drunk again.
[01:07:45] So he's taped to the bull.
[01:07:49] And it comes by.
[01:07:52] Yes.
[01:07:53] And Inga is there.
[01:07:56] And that one dude that looks like the guy from Sugar Ray.
[01:08:02] Like that just like.
[01:08:04] Yeah.
[01:08:05] He needs to get in and drinks the bong water.
[01:08:07] And it's like.
[01:08:08] Ew.
[01:08:08] They really don't focus.
[01:08:10] Like he's in the movie like in five other areas.
[01:08:13] And it's just not important.
[01:08:15] From my understanding.
[01:08:17] He was a DJ.
[01:08:19] At like a look.
[01:08:20] Like a local.
[01:08:22] Radio station.
[01:08:23] Hey you want to be in this.
[01:08:24] Yeah.
[01:08:24] I guess so.
[01:08:25] And do some stupid shit.
[01:08:26] Yeah.
[01:08:26] It was really.
[01:08:27] Yeah.
[01:08:27] It was weird that they focused on him.
[01:08:29] At all.
[01:08:30] Yeah.
[01:08:31] It's like he wasn't a.
[01:08:33] In port.
[01:08:33] Yeah.
[01:08:34] Anyway.
[01:08:34] So after they have the party.
[01:08:37] Then Barry comes into town.
[01:08:39] Right.
[01:08:40] And we covered that part.
[01:08:42] Yep.
[01:08:43] And essentially.
[01:08:45] We fast forward.
[01:08:46] To the part where the guys get fired.
[01:08:49] And Rick finds out.
[01:08:51] And he quit.
[01:08:52] And then they.
[01:08:54] Devise a plan to like fuck up the whole investor day.
[01:08:58] Yes.
[01:08:58] And so they get everybody in town.
[01:09:02] The kids.
[01:09:03] The kid from.
[01:09:04] Bad Santa.
[01:09:05] To play along.
[01:09:06] I realized that last night too.
[01:09:08] I was like.
[01:09:09] I literally out loud.
[01:09:11] Said to no one.
[01:09:13] It's Thurman Merman.
[01:09:14] That's great.
[01:09:16] And yeah.
[01:09:17] They do a bunch of stupid shit.
[01:09:18] I mean.
[01:09:19] This scene was just like.
[01:09:20] Action packed.
[01:09:21] Of them.
[01:09:22] Just.
[01:09:23] Bucking up.
[01:09:24] Bucking it up.
[01:09:25] Yeah.
[01:09:26] This is where we get the asses out.
[01:09:28] But not really asses out scene as well.
[01:09:30] Yeah.
[01:09:30] Because they were doing it.
[01:09:32] Pop a month style.
[01:09:36] At one point.
[01:09:38] Majors calls Barry.
[01:09:40] Captain Cripple.
[01:09:41] Which Anna was like.
[01:09:43] Oh fuck no.
[01:09:44] So they lock her in a Hummer.
[01:09:46] I was confused by this.
[01:09:48] Like.
[01:09:48] Oh so you hate her boyfriend as well.
[01:09:50] It would have been interesting.
[01:09:52] If we saw the dad kind of pushing Rick with her.
[01:09:55] For it to make sense.
[01:09:57] Right.
[01:09:57] But like.
[01:09:58] It was all so random.
[01:10:00] And.
[01:10:00] It was just to get to the Casanova.
[01:10:02] Or the Casanova.
[01:10:04] Casablanca scene.
[01:10:05] Casablanca scene.
[01:10:06] Yeah.
[01:10:07] Yeah.
[01:10:08] So like.
[01:10:08] Everything is foiled.
[01:10:10] Ted Muntz.
[01:10:11] Rips up the contract.
[01:10:12] After getting his.
[01:10:14] One.
[01:10:14] One punch in.
[01:10:16] The Papa Muntz statue.
[01:10:18] They had taken it down.
[01:10:19] And so.
[01:10:19] Stumpy is towing it back to its rightful place.
[01:10:22] But the hook breaks.
[01:10:23] And so it.
[01:10:24] It runs into this.
[01:10:27] Why can I think of the.
[01:10:28] The snow nook gondola.
[01:10:30] That is like.
[01:10:31] Being presented to all the investors.
[01:10:34] And then.
[01:10:35] I can't remember how.
[01:10:37] Majors ends up in a port-a-potty.
[01:10:40] Yes.
[01:10:41] And he.
[01:10:42] Oh because.
[01:10:42] They drive by with the snowmobile.
[01:10:45] And it's got a lasso thing on the end.
[01:10:47] And then it hooks on his leg.
[01:10:49] And he gets dragged into the port-a-potty.
[01:10:51] I do.
[01:10:52] That one.
[01:10:53] But the.
[01:10:53] The whole thing starts off.
[01:10:55] With Pigpen.
[01:10:57] And Inga.
[01:10:58] Having sex.
[01:10:59] Yes.
[01:11:00] Okay.
[01:11:00] Let's talk about that mountain scene.
[01:11:02] Because.
[01:11:03] After they devise a plan.
[01:11:05] Pigpen.
[01:11:05] I have something to do.
[01:11:07] And runs.
[01:11:07] And then finds her on her mountain.
[01:11:09] Runs off.
[01:11:09] Finds her on the mountain.
[01:11:10] He's talking to her.
[01:11:12] Her back is to him.
[01:11:13] She does not respond.
[01:11:15] At all.
[01:11:16] So I'm like.
[01:11:17] Does she have headphones?
[01:11:19] Like what's happening?
[01:11:20] And then when he says.
[01:11:22] I think the best thing for us to do.
[01:11:24] Is have sex.
[01:11:24] And she.
[01:11:26] Nothing would make my step.
[01:11:29] Puss off my stepfather more.
[01:11:31] Let's do this.
[01:11:33] And so.
[01:11:34] I'm not a man of many words.
[01:11:37] I love you more than any man.
[01:11:39] Has ever loved a woman.
[01:11:41] He's never spoken to.
[01:11:42] I love you.
[01:11:44] I love you.
[01:11:45] I love you.
[01:11:45] Inga.
[01:11:46] You were just making out with his brother in the hot tub.
[01:11:49] Brothers are fine.
[01:11:50] Okay.
[01:11:52] Close the world.
[01:11:53] Standards.
[01:11:56] I'm just saying.
[01:11:57] If the brothers are not loyal to each other.
[01:12:00] What can I do?
[01:12:01] I mean.
[01:12:02] What can a woman do?
[01:12:03] You know.
[01:12:05] And then we get.
[01:12:06] Anthony makes it down the mountain.
[01:12:08] Very proud.
[01:12:09] Are you using your Hufflepuff?
[01:12:12] I am.
[01:12:13] And then we get the end scene.
[01:12:15] It's Jenny and Rick at the top of Hangman's Pink.
[01:12:18] They're together now.
[01:12:20] Stumpy.
[01:12:21] Kind of is like.
[01:12:22] Narrates the end.
[01:12:23] Yeah.
[01:12:24] And then we get bloopers.
[01:12:26] Wait.
[01:12:27] I do want to say.
[01:12:28] There's a couple of lines that you missed.
[01:12:30] That we need to.
[01:12:30] Okay.
[01:12:31] Go ahead.
[01:12:31] Talk about first.
[01:12:32] And I think.
[01:12:34] I quote.
[01:12:36] Carpe diem.
[01:12:38] Seize the carp.
[01:12:42] Once a week.
[01:12:43] And have been.
[01:12:44] As you should.
[01:12:45] You know.
[01:12:46] 23 years.
[01:12:47] Also like.
[01:12:48] I'm not going to take romantic advice.
[01:12:50] From somebody who can't spell romantic.
[01:12:52] Or advice.
[01:12:53] It's just really good.
[01:12:54] I don't know the whole thing.
[01:12:56] But where he says.
[01:12:57] It was the 80s.
[01:12:59] And what was it?
[01:12:59] Ford was president.
[01:13:01] Nixon was in the White House.
[01:13:02] And FDR was running this country into the ground.
[01:13:07] When he said that.
[01:13:08] I was like.
[01:13:08] Wait.
[01:13:09] The best.
[01:13:10] Wait a minute.
[01:13:11] Wait a minute.
[01:13:12] Oh my God.
[01:13:13] Wild.
[01:13:15] It got so.
[01:13:16] If a fellow.
[01:13:17] You know.
[01:13:17] Like to smoke a little grass.
[01:13:19] Drink a little ripple.
[01:13:20] Grow like a rooster.
[01:13:23] Maybe challenge.
[01:13:24] Why your son do a gentleman's duel.
[01:13:27] It's so good.
[01:13:30] Oh man.
[01:13:31] Wow.
[01:13:32] Other things I did not touch upon.
[01:13:34] From the commentary.
[01:13:36] Grandma Rose declared this movie.
[01:13:38] Sort of.
[01:13:39] A funny movie.
[01:13:42] And then.
[01:13:44] The beginning snowboarder.
[01:13:46] Set off those avalanches.
[01:13:48] But there was a crew.
[01:13:49] On standby.
[01:13:50] If he was buried.
[01:13:51] By the avalanches.
[01:13:52] Oh my God.
[01:13:53] AJ Cook.
[01:13:54] Who plays Jenny.
[01:13:55] Was sick during the race.
[01:13:57] So it was all.
[01:13:58] Body doubles.
[01:13:59] And stand-ins.
[01:14:00] For her.
[01:14:03] What does she do now?
[01:14:05] Criminal Minds.
[01:14:08] I don't know.
[01:14:08] I don't know if that show's still on.
[01:14:10] But I know she was a big character in that show.
[01:14:12] Got it.
[01:14:13] Lee Majors is actually a really good skier.
[01:14:18] Oh.
[01:14:18] The scene where Rick and Majors are going to.
[01:14:22] Are on the ski lift.
[01:14:23] Like going to the top of the mountain.
[01:14:26] Apparently there was a longer scene.
[01:14:28] That was cut.
[01:14:28] For the MPAA.
[01:14:30] Where Rick offers Majors.
[01:14:32] Some weed.
[01:14:33] And Majors declines.
[01:14:35] And offers Rick.
[01:14:37] Some cocaine.
[01:14:39] And then.
[01:14:40] Yeah.
[01:14:41] In that scene.
[01:14:42] You can see.
[01:14:44] White stuff.
[01:14:44] Under his nose.
[01:14:46] Oh.
[01:14:46] I thought that was just ice.
[01:14:48] I thought that's why they named that bar.
[01:14:50] The powder room.
[01:14:51] That was the first thing I thought about.
[01:14:53] Oh.
[01:14:53] Yeah.
[01:14:54] That makes sense.
[01:14:56] Grandma declared Victoria.
[01:14:57] Quite a sex pot.
[01:15:00] Oh.
[01:15:01] Who's Victoria?
[01:15:02] Victoria.
[01:15:02] Slow Step.
[01:15:03] I'm going to die.
[01:15:03] Oh.
[01:15:04] Wait.
[01:15:04] Wait.
[01:15:05] I love that that's her entire name.
[01:15:08] They played Wicked Games.
[01:15:10] For the Island in the Sun.
[01:15:13] Scenes.
[01:15:13] And then they.
[01:15:14] Like.
[01:15:15] They.
[01:15:15] Found another son.
[01:15:16] And then son.
[01:15:17] They are friends with Jack Johnson.
[01:15:19] Which is why.
[01:15:20] There are a ton of Jack Johnson songs.
[01:15:22] In this movie.
[01:15:23] And they are.
[01:15:25] Mostly music video directors.
[01:15:28] So they've done a ton of Blink-182.
[01:15:30] And a lot of like pop punk bands.
[01:15:32] This movie played like a music video.
[01:15:35] Yes.
[01:15:36] And I loved it.
[01:15:37] Yeah.
[01:15:38] Oh.
[01:15:38] It was amazing.
[01:15:40] And I think that was.
[01:15:42] Oh.
[01:15:43] And then Lee Majors improvised the little Elvis.
[01:15:47] Referent to a penis.
[01:15:49] He got his.
[01:15:50] Some guy got his little Elvis stuck in my hot tub.
[01:15:54] Oh yeah.
[01:15:55] Yeah.
[01:15:55] That's good.
[01:15:56] I loved all of Zach.
[01:15:58] Like in the.
[01:15:59] The outtakes.
[01:16:00] His like little jokes about wearing the.
[01:16:03] The outfit.
[01:16:04] And his testicles.
[01:16:06] And he's.
[01:16:06] Yeah.
[01:16:06] When he calls them the Hardy Boys.
[01:16:08] That's no mystery.
[01:16:09] Or he says.
[01:16:09] What did he say about Mary-Kate and Ashley?
[01:16:11] Yes.
[01:16:12] So it was bleeped out.
[01:16:13] Even on.
[01:16:14] The DVD I had.
[01:16:16] But.
[01:16:16] He says.
[01:16:18] Um.
[01:16:19] The Olsen twins.
[01:16:20] And then he says.
[01:16:21] Can you buy Mary-Kate and Ashley a drink?
[01:16:25] Oh it wasn't bleeped up.
[01:16:26] Bleeped out when I was watching.
[01:16:28] Yeah.
[01:16:29] Yeah.
[01:16:29] Mine was too.
[01:16:30] And I forgot why.
[01:16:30] But yeah.
[01:16:31] There was a couple other.
[01:16:32] Probably because they were.
[01:16:33] I don't know.
[01:16:34] Underage.
[01:16:35] They were underage at that time.
[01:16:36] I don't think they hit 18 yet.
[01:16:38] Weird.
[01:16:39] How people talked about them.
[01:16:41] Yeah.
[01:16:41] I just thought of another plot hole.
[01:16:43] Oh gosh.
[01:16:45] When Lance comes out.
[01:16:47] To his friends.
[01:16:48] Rick isn't there.
[01:16:50] Yes.
[01:16:50] Yes.
[01:16:51] And then literally like.
[01:16:53] Like moments later.
[01:16:54] Like he starts talking about the women.
[01:16:56] And he's like.
[01:16:57] Oh you don't have to do that anymore.
[01:16:58] Like Rick tells him he doesn't have to do that anymore.
[01:17:00] I will say that.
[01:17:02] There was enough time in between those two scenes.
[01:17:04] Where somebody could have said.
[01:17:06] Oh and by the way.
[01:17:06] So and so came out.
[01:17:07] Well here's.
[01:17:08] Here's what happens though right.
[01:17:10] They're talking about leaving.
[01:17:12] When he comes out.
[01:17:13] And they say.
[01:17:15] We can't tell Rick.
[01:17:16] We just have to go.
[01:17:18] And so then Rick.
[01:17:20] Is like.
[01:17:22] They're leaving.
[01:17:22] And he goes to the plane.
[01:17:24] And then they have that plan.
[01:17:26] Yeah.
[01:17:27] And so things happen really quick.
[01:17:29] So sure.
[01:17:31] Someone could have told him.
[01:17:33] But like.
[01:17:34] Doubtful.
[01:17:35] Yeah.
[01:17:36] Maybe a scene was cut out.
[01:17:38] But yeah.
[01:17:38] You're right.
[01:17:39] I caught that too.
[01:17:40] Because I was like.
[01:17:40] I want some deleted scenes.
[01:17:41] I think I need to go find some deleted scenes.
[01:17:44] Where do I find these deleted scenes?
[01:17:46] I have the DVD.
[01:17:47] So.
[01:17:48] Are all of them on?
[01:17:50] Like even the ones that they.
[01:17:52] With.
[01:17:53] With the.
[01:17:55] Three minutes.
[01:17:56] Of Inga.
[01:17:57] No.
[01:17:58] That one is not.
[01:17:59] Is that one exists somewhere?
[01:18:01] Is that.
[01:18:01] That's why we need a director's cut.
[01:18:04] Of How Cold.
[01:18:05] Coming up on the 25th anniversary.
[01:18:08] They have time to put this together for us.
[01:18:10] I don't think anybody is doing that much.
[01:18:13] Well.
[01:18:14] Before we get into ratings.
[01:18:16] Let's just.
[01:18:17] Quickly remind.

[01:18:49] The Monosaurus Initiative.
[01:18:51] Love it.
[01:18:52] So Ron.
[01:18:53] Present day.
[01:18:54] What is your rating?
[01:18:59] It's so hard.
[01:19:00] When it's like a nostalgia thing.
[01:19:03] You know you want to say.
[01:19:04] We'll buy it again.
[01:19:05] It's all right.
[01:19:06] No.
[01:19:07] No regrets.
[01:19:08] That's my motto.
[01:19:09] No regrets.
[01:19:10] I'll buy it again.
[01:19:11] Woo.
[01:19:14] I'm right there with you again.
[01:19:15] It was the best day of thrifting ever.
[01:19:18] I found Out Cold on DVD.
[01:19:20] And I found a Hanson concert video on DVD.
[01:19:25] And I was like this day can't get any better.
[01:19:27] Was it?
[01:19:28] Danielle.
[01:19:28] What is your current day rating of Out Cold?
[01:19:34] I would say two day rental?
[01:19:39] It's not the worst thing I've ever seen.
[01:19:41] But I had no nostalgia to it either.
[01:19:44] That's true.
[01:19:45] And so I had to look at it as face value of like plot holes after plot holes after plot holes.
[01:19:50] I don't have as much hate about the movie as I thought.
[01:19:55] I would.
[01:19:56] Now that I know I've never seen it.
[01:19:58] But I also think I will never watch this again unless you make me.
[01:20:03] Well if you have any opinions you'd like to share about Out Cold.

[01:20:25] As we dive into our first foreign film.
[01:20:28] Amelie.
[01:20:29] I think it is our first foreign film.
[01:20:31] Is it not?
[01:20:32] I don't remember reading captions.
[01:20:34] Wow.
[01:20:35] Yeah.
[01:20:36] Well Ron, thank you for joining us on this.
[01:20:39] Thanks for having me.
[01:20:41] Amazing adventure of snowboarding and loosely based Casablanca-ness.
[01:20:48] I really am extra grateful right now because we've watched one movie since April was born.
[01:20:58] And it's just really difficult to find that much time.
[01:21:02] And so when, especially to be like, hey we need to like carve time out to watch a movie.
[01:21:07] It's just other things are happening.
[01:21:09] So when I'm like, oh I have to watch this movie before I go on no more late fees.
[01:21:14] And to be able to sit and watch a movie even though it was broken up because she only takes hour naps.
[01:21:20] But still to sit down and watch a movie.
[01:21:23] It was really wonderful last night.
[01:21:25] So I'm really glad that I got to do that.
[01:21:27] So thank you.
[01:21:29] Especially this movie.
[01:21:31] Especially this movie.
[01:21:32] Well thank you for coming.
[01:21:34] We love having you on.
[01:21:36] We do.
[01:21:36] Hopefully the next time we hit the slopes it's really like lines of cocaine instead.
[01:21:40] Perfect.
[01:21:42] We'll do Leaving Las Vegas.
[01:21:48] And as always be kind and rewind.
[01:21:52] King of the Mountain.
[01:21:54] Did someone say King of the Mountain?
[01:21:56] Mountain.
[01:21:58] End.
