[00:01:08] Thank you for having me. You guys, of course, know me from The Real Study podcast. It's a fun, like, live double feature podcast where we talk two films usually related. We're on our little summer break right now, but we're going to be back next month talking new things. But I also have the It's a Wonderful podcast feed with my sweet British co-host Morgan, my best friend from across the pond. We've been doing it for almost a decade now. So we have several shows on the It's a Wonderful podcast feed.

[00:01:37] Morgan hasn't seen when I discovered he hadn't seen many films. We created this podcast where I could force him to watch movies, particularly movies from this era, from 2000s, 90s, because that is a huge gap for him. So that's been fun to do. And then we have It's a Wonderful podcast. Our big thing is that we love to celebrate classic films. So on It's a Wonderful podcast, we talk films all the way from the 1920s to the 1970s. We do a great celebration of those old movies.

[00:02:05] So you can, of course, find all of that on the It's a Wonderful podcast feed. We also have It's a Wonderful podcast YouTube channel where we do a TV-based show. So right now on our TV-based show every Monday, I'm showing him Dawson's Creek. So we're now on season five and he's showing me Doctor Who and we're on series three of that. So we integrate other shows as they come up. So we've done Ted Lasso, Bridgerton.

[00:02:28] And it usually started with shows he hadn't seen, but we've just recently integrated Doctor Who, a show that I hadn't really seen. So yeah, so we do a lot of stuff there and it's a wonderful podcast. That's awesome. How did you get into podcasting? So I competed on a movie trivia show called the Movie Trivia Schmodown on YouTube. It's basically like this cross between wrestling and movie trivia. So we would go like full-fledged with it, like you'd have your persona.

[00:02:58] So I was Janine the Machine and, you know, I would dress up in costumes and do big entrances. I had my own entrance theme and it would be very much like a wrestling match. But instead you sit at a table and compete against somebody in movie trivia. You'd have factions. You've had good guys and bad guys. So we're all like just fun characters. So I did that for several years. And then I had a column for the website, Machine Mondays, where I would write articles about my experiences with the Schmodown, particularly as a Black female competitor.

[00:03:27] And so when the website went down, I continued Machine Mondays as a podcast. It was just me kind of talking about the matches of that week or how I was feeling about an upcoming match I had and things like that. And Morgan, he was already doing It's a Wonderful podcast with another co-host, but he would host Machine Mondays on the feed. So when that co-host dropped out, I came in to kind of guest on It's a Wonderful podcast. And then I became a permanent host after that host kind of decided to leave.

[00:03:56] And then when I was talking to him, Endgame, Avengers Endgame was about to come out. And he revealed to me that he had not seen any Iron Man films, any Thor films or The Incredible Hulk. So he was about to go into this big final MC movie without knowing really anything about those kind of core characters. So we were just going to do a one-off little thing where we watched those like five or six movies.

[00:04:23] And then at the end, talk about Endgame and his experience now having seen Iron Man and Thor and all those things for the first time. But then he revealed more movies he hadn't seen. So then we turned Morgan Hasn't Seen into a full-fledged podcast. So that's how I kind of got into podcasting. Oh, I love that. That's so cool. Oh, well, I'm going to ask you guys, what have you been watching?

[00:04:49] What movies, TV shows have been on your screens that you've been obsessed with that pissed you off? You let me know. I've been in a weird like thrillers kick. So I've been watching some like 90s, 80s, 2000s thrillers that I hadn't seen before. So I watched Fracture with Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling. I watched Pacific Heights with Michael Keaton. And I think Melanie Griffith and Papa from Stranger Things.

[00:05:19] His name is missing from my brain right now. But yeah, just a weird array of like thrillers. I realize it's kind of a genre I like to get cozy with. And when it comes to TV, I've been on Widow's Bay like everybody else. Oh, I haven't watched that one. That's on Apple TV? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's really funny. Maria's been obsessed with that one. I've heard really good things. It's on my list to do's. Too many things. I know. Yes.

[00:05:49] What have you been watching, Jackie? So we're not doing the full road to Doomsday, but I am closing some gaps. I never watched Loki. I don't like time travel-y things. And so Loki. And so I made a deal with myself. And my deal is once I finish Loki, I get to rewatch Agatha all along because I love that. So that's my reward.

[00:06:15] So two episodes into Loki and then new season of the challenge started. So already back on that. I can't quit you bullshit. Shayla has been rewatched, like been watching that she started watching. She's on her road to Doomsday. And I'm just like, Marvel and I are, I think we're broken up right now. And I know it's real serious business.

[00:06:45] I don't, I haven't seen Spider-Man yet. Me, David and Murr are supposed to go hopefully on Friday because they were out of town. Then I was out of town. And so I've been like dodging spoilers left and right. It's so bad. Yes. I've been really trying so hard, but yeah, like Marvel only has one last chance with me. And it's whatever they do with this X-Men situation.

[00:07:12] I mean, I didn't even watch Wonder Man yet. I didn't, I don't, I, again, I have not watched, I've like been completely cut off. I think, I'm trying to think the last Marvel thing I've actually watched. But I was very upset that they, I feel like they're catering to the fanboys and I don't like how they've done so many of these shows dirty and movies. Did you watch Thunderbolts? I did.

[00:07:39] And I hated that everyone was like, oh, this is so great. I'm like, is it though? It was. I love Thunderbolts, but I have a soft thought for Florence Pugh. Yeah. Yes. It wasn't bad, but I really feel like people were drinking the Kool-Aid on that, you know? And then the Captain America stuff like really pissed me off. It's like, okay, you gave Sam the shield, commit to it.

[00:08:07] And now we're just, it seems like you're just rewinding, like, nah. I'm just, yeah. Yeah. I loved Falcon and Winter Soldier. Like, I thought it was a really good TV show. Yeah. And I thought it was like a great introduction into giving him his own thing. And it was, what I hate about Marvel with the TV shows is that they do so much development and then they make these movies and say, oh, well, some people didn't see the TV show. And then it's like Arrested Development is going back, backwards with the character development.

[00:08:36] And I'm just like, don't make me pay double because somebody else didn't. You're lazy with your writing if you can't catch them up. Yes. So I can go on for days and you know that. So I'm just going to let it go. Let it go. I'll let you know how I feel about Spider-Man when I finally get to see it. And, you know, I'm on my Korean drama mess. I just watched a whole new show called My Sticky Love or something. Very wholesome.

[00:09:07] They lived in a town. It doesn't sound very wholesome. They lived in a town that made taffy. Come on, guys. They don't even have sex most of the time on those shows. It's like if they hold a hand, it's dangerous. So. All right, Jackie, let's play a game. Sure. It's called the Sticky Town. No, it's called Recruit Your Angels.

[00:09:35] So each person will draft three actresses to build their own Charlie's Angels team. Are we sticking in the 90s, 2000s timeframe? Yeah, why not make it a little bit more difficult? Perfect. So we each need to recruit a mastermind, a fighter and a wild card. And we cannot duplicate anyone else's picks. So I think we'll do snake draft.

[00:10:04] So go down them back up. And then after everyone is drafted. Do we have to do this last part? What is it? Everyone. And the mastermind. Who would you draft? I guess I'll go with Halle Berry as the mastermind. Yeah. Danielle, you want to go next? Okay. Okay. I could do this. Okay.

[00:10:34] I, you know what? I'm going to go with, I'm going to go with Nia Long. Like it. Because remember we talked in the first Charlie's Angels movie that she was in a contender or like, no, they, they said she looked old, which was insane work. What? Yeah. Yeah. So I would pick Nia Long for sure. I am going Selma Hayek. They always cast her in like the sexy roles.

[00:11:02] So I think it'd be really cool to see her in like the intellectual role. Okay. And now it's my choice again. The fighter. I am waffling between two. I'm going to go keep Beckinsale. I love her. She can fight. Danielle. For the fighter. I would do, I would have Vivica Fox. That was what I was going to say. Damn.

[00:11:31] Sorry, girl. I know. And Janine? Well, then I guess. Like, have we seen her really do anything like that? Would it be fun to see her do something like that? If I said, maybe Charlize? She was my other pick.

[00:12:01] Excellent. Okay. I agree. I was kind of like, should I pick maybe like someone like Nicole Kidman who we've never really see do action? Because that would just be kind of interesting. Oh, that's true. But. Another high contender for me was Gina Davis. Oh. Oh, yes. The long kiss goodnight. I mean. Yeah. Yeah. She's so good. She's so badass. And then back to you, Janine, for the wild card. Ooh.

[00:12:31] Kind of want to pick somebody younger. Would they have been like too young at the time? Because I also want them to get redemption for doing something very similar like this. If I picked Kristen Stewart. Oh, okay. She was the best part in that movie. Like, she was so fun in the Charlie and the Jules reboot. And yeah. I didn't think it was bad. I enjoyed it. Yeah. So I was very confused as to what everybody was upset about.

[00:13:01] It's the patriarchy. Yeah, I guess. Can't have anything nice. Not at all. So it's back to me? Yes. I'm torn between two choices. So I was really disappointed after the first Blade movie that we didn't see and Boucher right again and anything big. Oh, yeah. And I just really thought she was great.

[00:13:27] So it's either her or if I was going the other side and trying to have some comedy, have Regina Hall. Because I love her. Yep. Like, I'm not sure. But I think I'm going to go with Nboucher. Right. Like it. Yeah. And then I am last. I am going Juliette Lewis. Okay. Okay. Okay. She can.

[00:13:57] I think she can kind of tow all of those lines, be physical, the intelligence, and then just kind of be the rebel like Drew Barrymore's character. For sure. Yeah. Out of the three, if I had to pick one to keep, it would definitely be Lucy Liu. Yeah. Out of the three. Okay. Well, I have a question for all of us.

[00:14:25] If Charlie was going to call you tomorrow, what would your special skill be as an angel? Would you be the tech genius, the master of disguises, the getaway driver, whatever it may be? Well, what skills are you bringing to Charlie's Angels? As somebody who loves cosplay, I would probably be the master of disguises. Like I love putting looks together. So I definitely think I'd be good at that. Like I put a whole outfit together to go watch practical magic at the theater yesterday.

[00:14:57] I love it. I love it. Ooh. I would be good at two things and two things only. All of my friends in my different friend groups, I am the investigator. I will, you give me somebody, I will find them on the internet. I will find, I will find a 1996 article in the archives. I will find, give me enough time, space, and maybe some money. I got you.

[00:15:28] The second thing is that I definitely would be really good at like coming up with a master plan for revenge every time. Yes. Nice. I've literally done it multiple times. You love revenge. I do. I love slow revenge. I love when people can't see it coming. What about you, Jenny? We've used this term on the podcast before. I'll be home alone and shit.

[00:15:55] Like I am like thinking up ways to booby trap things is my favorite pastime. And so I'd be the one that's like trapping people to get information out of them in like unsuspecting ways. Yeah. I also think as your bestie, hear what I think you would be code breaker.

[00:16:18] If you, or like, if you're ever in an escape room with Jackie, I'm sorry, but she will find them clues. She will get you out of there. I love it. She ain't messing around about that. I have the focus. And the second thing, I think she would be really good at like having mapping out our like exit plan, like how to our exit and entry strategy.

[00:16:48] Like she could look at the map and be like, okay, we're going to enter here. Here's the backup. Like she would be, that would be her skill for sure. I wouldn't know where I was going. I need you on my team. Yes. I have no sense of direction at all. So I do love a spreadsheet. So I would be good at spreadsheets as well. Road trips. I'm down for that. Yeah. I would be really good with snacks. Yes. All right.

[00:17:18] Makes my travel fun. I like it. Yes. All right. Well, now it's time to put Janine in the hot seat for her three employee picks. Let's see what movie she'll stock on the shelves at Blockbuster. Ooh. Oh, okay. So I went with a really fun kind of twin double feature. These movies are like the same, but opposite. I think they even have the same screenwriter.

[00:17:46] We're getting two male leads that are kind of on their way up. So I love that. They're also really cute. So fun to look at. In the thriller genre, really fun. And so my first pick is Cellular. Wow. With Chris Atkins. That is a slip down. Yes. So good. Like cell phone on the run has to save this lady on this phone call. And it's twin movie. Phone booth. Yes. With Colin Farrell.

[00:18:16] Forrest Whitaker. And it's also a phone movie, but he's very stationary in this phone booth. So two films that kind of have similar energy. Same screenwriter. Great thrillers. Really solid cast. Cute leads who are really talented actors are kind of on the way up in their careers. So kind of early for them. So absolutely love these movies. And then another pick that is features an actress from this very movie. Another Cameron Diaz film that I think is very eclectic.

[00:18:46] It has everything. It has romance. It has comedy. It has a little bit of action. And it's just kind of quirky and weird. Has a bit of a supernatural aspect. And that is Danny Boyle's A Life Less Ordinary. Oh. Every time you gave a description, I'm like, this is how it went in my head. Is it being John Malkovich? Is it in her shoes? Where are we going? Yes. Is that what I mean? Yes.

[00:19:12] So Cameron Diaz, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Delroy Lindo, Holly Hunter. There's angels that like have to try to get these people to fall in love or their whole kind of mission will fall apart. But they're struggling because these two people are crazy and they hate each other. So how are they going to accomplish this? The angels are Gerald Lindo and Holly Hunter. There's a kidnapping plot. But like Ewan McGregor is trying to be a kidnapper and he's fumbling and bumbling everything up.

[00:19:41] And Cameron Diaz is sassy as hell. It's such a fun movie with just a little bit of everything. I love this movie. I love it. Those are great recommendations. Yeah.
