[00:02:02] [SPEAKER_04]: come back later this week as we countdown our favorite Ivan Reitman movies

[00:02:07] [SPEAKER_04]: and don't forget to go back to check out Heather during our Billy Madison

[00:02:10] [SPEAKER_04]: and the Sweetest Thing episodes, as well as their bonus episodes.

[00:02:15] [SPEAKER_04]: Our show notes will have all the links, but let's dive into evolution.

[00:02:22] [SPEAKER_05]: A firefighting cadet, two college professors, and a geeky but sexy government scientist

[00:02:27] [SPEAKER_05]: work against an alien organism that has been rapidly evolving since its arrival on earth inside a meteor.

[00:02:34] [SPEAKER_05]: And this wacky team are the only people standing between the aliens and world domination,

[00:02:40] [SPEAKER_05]: which could be bad news for the earth.

[00:02:42] [SPEAKER_05]: The movie stars David DeCovini, Orlando Jones, Julianne Moore, Sean William Scott, and Dan Ackroyd.

[00:02:49] [SPEAKER_05]: The movie was directed by Ivan Reitman and was written by David Diamond, David Weissman, and Don Jacoby.

[00:02:57] [SPEAKER_05]: You can currently watch it on Pluto, but before we start let's get into our ratings rewind.

[00:03:02] [SPEAKER_04]: So you know the drill, before we get into the movie we'll reveal the rating at our Y2K versions

[00:03:07] [SPEAKER_04]: of ourselves we give, then at the end we'll see if our current selves agree with our initial

[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_04]: rating. Our scale consists of, would buy it, would buy it again.

[00:03:15] [SPEAKER_04]: The best wood plan repeat.

[00:03:17] [SPEAKER_04]: Five day rental.

[00:03:19] [SPEAKER_05]: Wood watch again.

[00:03:20] [SPEAKER_05]: Two day rental.

[00:03:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Okay but nothing to write home about.

[00:03:25] [SPEAKER_05]: And same day rental.

[00:03:28] [SPEAKER_05]: Just napalm that bitch it's trash.

[00:03:33] [SPEAKER_04]: The obsession with napalm in this movie.

[00:03:38] [SPEAKER_04]: So Heather what was your Y2K rating of evolution?

[00:03:42] [SPEAKER_03]: It would definitely have been would buy it would buy it again.

[00:03:47] [SPEAKER_03]: I love this movie it was a family favorite everyone in our family quotes it.

[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_03]: I could hear my dad's laugh watching it so it was it was an instant classic when we first saw it.

[00:04:00] [SPEAKER_04]: And it's actually kind of poetic because we just recently passed the anniversary of dad's death

[00:04:08] [SPEAKER_04]: so it was nice that we were doing evolution right after that because yeah like you can

[00:04:12] [SPEAKER_04]: definitely hear his laugh he loved David DeCové he loved anything sci-fi and goofy so

[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_04]: this movie was right up his alley I kept referring it to it as a Conley family classic

[00:04:25] [SPEAKER_04]: and so I as well would buy would buy it again.

[00:04:30] [SPEAKER_05]: I did your dad take us all to see this movie?

[00:04:33] [SPEAKER_04]: He may have because every Saturday we went to the movies so I'm sure and whoever was around

[00:04:39] [SPEAKER_04]: like we all just went get in the movie.

[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah I think I saw this with you guys and I did buy it I don't have it anymore I don't know if I

[00:04:48] [SPEAKER_05]: bought it on DVD or VHS but when I went to go look I was like oh I don't have this anymore so

[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_05]: it might be something else I need to go buy again I guess.

[00:04:58] [SPEAKER_05]: All right let's look at the box office for this one.

[00:05:00] [SPEAKER_05]: So this movie had a budget of 80 million dollars and it made 98.4 million dollars worldwide so

[00:05:08] [SPEAKER_05]: it made just a little bit enough after making backward it I didn't realize it was such a big

[00:05:15] [SPEAKER_05]: budget but I guess with all the CGI that makes sense but Lil Raj of the Chicago Sun-Times

[00:05:22] [SPEAKER_05]: he gave the film a 2.5 out of 4 and wrote it's not good but it's nowhere near as bad as most

[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_05]: recent comedies it has real laughs but it misses just as many real opportunities.

[00:05:36] [SPEAKER_04]: Damn Lil Raj.

[00:05:38] [SPEAKER_04]: Damn.

[00:05:40] [SPEAKER_04]: When you start out with it's not good.

[00:05:49] [SPEAKER_05]: So here's another situation where the studio they were the original distributor but months

[00:05:55] [SPEAKER_05]: before production began they sold the international distribution rights to Sony due to budget concerns

[00:06:01] [SPEAKER_05]: so I think just like the third or fourth movie in a row we've kind of had where

[00:06:07] [SPEAKER_05]: we're learning a lot about how the sauce gets made essentially because we didn't know all this

[00:06:12] [SPEAKER_05]: back end distribution stuff was happening with the studios so very interesting but

[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_05]: before we get into cast and crew let's hear a message from our pod.

[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Hey guys I'm Darcy founder of spirit and I'm Kelly the chief technical officer of spirit

[00:06:32] [SPEAKER_00]: back in 2011 we formed the supernatural paranormal investigations and research institute

[00:06:38] [SPEAKER_00]: searching for answers to mysterious things that were happening in our little corner of Canada.

[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_01]: We haven't stopped searching for those answers ever since. Join us on our podcast Canadian

[00:06:49] [SPEAKER_01]: spirit as we dive into all of Canada's most famous and forgotten paranormal mysteries.

[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Examine the evidence and try to figure out what might be behind Canada's ghosts,

[00:06:58] [SPEAKER_00]: cryptids and UFO encounters. So come along for the ride and discover for yourself what makes

[00:07:04] [SPEAKER_00]: the land of maple and hockey so wonderfully weird. You can find us on apple podcasts,

[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_01]: google podcasts, Spotify, potchaser you know wherever you find your podcasts.

[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_04]: Did you know? I don't know. David DeCovney turned down a role in Star Wars Episode 2 attack

[00:07:28] [SPEAKER_04]: of the clones in order to do this movie. Day he has never regretted got it. Yeah so he has never

[00:07:36] [SPEAKER_04]: regretted this this decision which I agree. I mean it all depends on what role he turned down to

[00:07:44] [SPEAKER_03]: like was it one of the standout roles main character? I have no idea what role it was

[00:07:50] [SPEAKER_05]: but like the funny thing is I keep finding two different like I looked at some articles where he

[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_05]: was being interviewed right when he signed on to be in this movie and he was talking about that

[00:08:04] [SPEAKER_05]: that he was asked to be in the episode in episode three but then all the other ones are

[00:08:10] [SPEAKER_05]: saying episode two so I'm like this is a direct quote from him saying episode three so I don't

[00:08:20] [SPEAKER_05]: his molder character and X files and so he was like yeah I don't want to do Star Wars.

[00:08:26] [SPEAKER_05]: Mama do this evolution movie by Ivan Reitman and be so different than the X files it actually when

[00:08:36] [SPEAKER_05]: he got the script he was like and he saw that there was aliens he was like damn it damn it

[00:08:43] [SPEAKER_05]: it's taken away but he actually gets credit to this film to helping his next phase in his career

[00:08:50] [SPEAKER_05]: because after he finished the X files he started doing a different tv show and oh gosh I can't remember

[00:08:56] [SPEAKER_05]: what it was called. Was it California Cation? Yes and it was this like doing the comedy in

[00:09:01] [SPEAKER_05]: this movie that kind of helped him be able to make that transition which I was like baby

[00:09:06] [SPEAKER_05]: you were in don't please don't tell mom the babysitter's dead a comedy classic you've already

[00:09:11] [SPEAKER_04]: been in your bag like what's the problem? I mean we'll get into it more but this movie is so perfectly

[00:09:19] [SPEAKER_04]: cast like there's not a single character where I'm like oh I could have seen someone else in this

[00:09:28] [SPEAKER_04]: role yeah apparently Michael J Fox was offered an unspecified lead role but turned it down

[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_04]: due to his battle with Parkinson's. I could so see him being in it I just don't know if he would

[00:09:41] [SPEAKER_04]: replace anybody else though. Yeah Will Smith was considered for the role of Harry don't touch Orlando

[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_04]: Jones in this movie like it's so good. Between him and John Williams Scott like I laughed out loud

[00:10:00] [SPEAKER_04]: so many times and it's just the reaction and physicality of their comedy is just

[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_05]: it's genius. John Williams Scott's eyes just look like bug eyed at some points like he does that like

[00:10:20] [SPEAKER_05]: stare off into the distance like nothing is going on upstairs so well so well. This scene in the

[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_04]: beginning where they're like turning his car back over and he has like the goggle line and his face

[00:10:35] [SPEAKER_04]: is just full of ash and he's just staring with like his mouth agape and he's just like I don't

[00:10:41] [SPEAKER_04]: what is this face but I was fucking dying. He's so good like even in the American Pie

[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_03]: movies he was so such a clutch character yeah I don't know what happened to him like where did

[00:10:55] [SPEAKER_03]: how did he fall off the planet I don't know where John Williams Scott went because I feel

[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_03]: like we're missing his spark in current movie somehow. I know rehab at one point. Oh well there's

[00:11:04] [SPEAKER_05]: that yeah maybe there's a formula for his silliness. There's some stuff but like I think

[00:11:10] [SPEAKER_05]: he's definitely much better now. The last thing I really saw him on was the lethal weapon

[00:11:17] [SPEAKER_05]: TV show that they had because there was like drama because the original guy that they had cast

[00:11:22] [SPEAKER_05]: left the show I don't remember what happened or why and oh you should have been watching that that

[00:11:28] [SPEAKER_05]: TV show Jackie because it had your boy Damon in it. Oh yeah senior or junior senior oh yeah.

[00:11:37] [SPEAKER_03]: Going back to Michael J Fox though I was just reading he was considered for the role of Wayne

[00:11:42] [SPEAKER_03]: which is Sean William Scott's character and I cannot see that compute that I would never

[00:11:48] [SPEAKER_04]: that would never work. Maybe they rewrote it a little bit I'm not sure. Or let Sean William Scott

[00:11:54] [SPEAKER_05]: just be Sean William Scott in the wrongs. Well it said that it says that Sean William Scott was

[00:12:01] [SPEAKER_05]: asked to audition after starring in Road Trip which again that's one of rightman's movies

[00:12:05] [SPEAKER_05]: that he produced and yeah so he was able to try out and he beat out Jerry Trainor

[00:12:13] [SPEAKER_04]: who was instead cast in a lesser role so. John Cusack and Leonardo DiCaprio were considered

[00:12:21] [SPEAKER_04]: for the role of Ira Kane played by David DiCovani. I could see maybe see John Cusack not Leo. Leo's got

[00:12:29] [SPEAKER_03]: too much lead man energy like he's too cool for that role. And maybe not maybe not and

[00:12:35] [SPEAKER_05]: yeah definitely not in this time frame like we haven't really seen him do kooky comedies.

[00:12:40] [SPEAKER_05]: That's true yeah. And John Cusack I don't think he's funny enough to do this. No. He's likable. Yes.

[00:12:51] [SPEAKER_03]: He's a likable guy but yeah he doesn't have that silly hair to him. Yeah he would have been more

[00:12:57] [SPEAKER_04]: like the straight guy to Harry's foil. And David DiCovani has a way about him that he could be an

[00:13:05] [SPEAKER_05]: asshole that like just and still charming at the same time. Yeah yeah I hate you but or you can see

[00:13:13] [SPEAKER_05]: why everybody's so mad at him. You're like yeah I get it like I could see it. Now Julianne Moore the

[00:13:20] [SPEAKER_05]: whole time I watched this movie again I was like why don't we just get Julianne Anderson. I mean

[00:13:26] [SPEAKER_05]: I know it was so good. It would have been too too. Too on the nose yeah.

[00:13:32] [SPEAKER_04]: The people coming out like this was too funny for an X files movie.

[00:13:40] [SPEAKER_04]: But Julianne Bro's saying stuff. Julianne Moore did a great job but she did.

[00:13:49] [SPEAKER_05]: It was offered or they were considering Jennifer Aniston for this role and I'm glad they didn't.

[00:13:56] [SPEAKER_05]: Another person that was considered was Robbie Coltrane for the role of General Woodman.

[00:14:03] [SPEAKER_05]: Don't see it but the guy who played him is the guy from Monk so that's

[00:14:09] [SPEAKER_05]: I felt like he's an authority figure. We need to listen to him.

[00:14:20] [SPEAKER_03]: He was who was like I'm thinking of someone who was the guy that was like

[00:14:25] [SPEAKER_03]: he's a very specific voice. Hold on Phil Dumfie. No it wasn't Phil Dumfie. The cameos in this movie are

[00:14:31] [SPEAKER_03]: out of control too there's so many different people. That was his movie debut. Yeah was it.

[00:14:37] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. Hi Barrel is that how you say his last name? Barrel I think.

[00:14:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Barrel. It was the General Woodman guy Ted Levine who plays

[00:14:47] [SPEAKER_05]: Bopla Bill in Silence of the Lambs. Bill Murray was considered for the role of Governor Lewis.

[00:14:53] [SPEAKER_04]: Dan Aykroy did this. I liked that touch that he brought to the mayor like just very

[00:15:01] [SPEAKER_04]: quick to the point and like no nonsense. Yeah like quick talker. I liked him a lot too.

[00:15:09] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah and I love that while they were shooting he was bored and so he would just go knock on people's

[00:15:17] [SPEAKER_04]: houses like knock on doors in the neighborhood and just like invite himself in and like visit

[00:15:23] [SPEAKER_04]: with people that lived in pagers. How cool would that be? We'd be like oh Dan Aykroy please come in.

[00:15:31] [SPEAKER_03]: Except I ignore every knock on my door so I miss him entirely. I play it back

[00:15:35] [SPEAKER_05]: on my ring doorbell. Let me just tell you this and this will continue throughout the episode.

[00:15:42] [SPEAKER_05]: I made dinner for Mia and Nana and I didn't expect her to sit and watch. She doesn't like creepy

[00:15:51] [SPEAKER_05]: crawly things at all like at all so she sat there and watched it. She was like oh like it

[00:16:00] [SPEAKER_04]: added a layer to this movie. I love that. I feel like I need to start showing more people this

[00:16:09] [SPEAKER_03]: movie who haven't seen it. Yeah it's a secret because going back to the box office clearly it

[00:16:14] [SPEAKER_03]: wasn't a huge hit when it first came out. People didn't realize what they were missing until

[00:16:18] [SPEAKER_03]: they see it and they're like oh this is really funny. And I feel like CGI for the most part

[00:16:24] [SPEAKER_04]: holds up. Not bad yeah. Did you know it was nominated for an Oscar for special effects? No. I was like

[00:16:32] [SPEAKER_05]: this is an Oscar nominated film. I think the perfect double feature would especially like for your dad

[00:16:43] [SPEAKER_05]: it would be this movie and galaxy quest 100%. Yeah okay. I was just gonna add one more tidbit

[00:16:51] [SPEAKER_03]: of information about cast so what was his name Ted Levine? So we had him who played in

[00:16:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Silence of the Lambs and then we have Julianne Moore who played Clarisse in the Hannibal

[00:17:01] [SPEAKER_05]: movies so it's a nice little connection there. What was Ted Levine? What character did he play?

[00:17:06] [SPEAKER_03]: He was the general wasn't he? In this way but he was Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs.

[00:17:11] [SPEAKER_05]: He was the main character. Why did I always think it was this other guy?

[00:17:19] [SPEAKER_05]: That blow in my mind. I always close the guy that I always thought it was. He looks like

[00:17:26] [SPEAKER_05]: Julia Roberts brother Eric Roberts but it's not Eric Roberts but he looks like creepy weird like him.

[00:17:34] [SPEAKER_03]: My mom loved Eric Roberts. She had a big crush. She's the only one.

[00:17:41] [SPEAKER_05]: I've never heard it in my life. Let's dive into the movie because man we're already off course but

[00:17:47] [SPEAKER_04]: that's fine. The movie opens and we're introduced to Sean Mullins Scott's character Wayne. He is

[00:17:57] [SPEAKER_04]: training to be a firefighter so he's found this shack in the middle of the desert. He's gonna

[00:18:02] [SPEAKER_04]: light on fire and save his precious CPR dummy from. My grandma had a lot of questions

[00:18:09] [SPEAKER_05]: She was like what is he doing? Why is it on fire? Why is he going in the fire?

[00:18:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Why did he start the fire? What is that doll? Is he kissing the doll? It was a lot happening

[00:18:20] [SPEAKER_05]: and then when she saw the asteroid she's like what is that? I said it's an asteroid

[00:18:25] [SPEAKER_05]: or meteor. I'm not sure which one you would call this.

[00:18:29] [SPEAKER_04]: Wayne is like as he's setting up this whole elaborate scenario he gives the dummy a whole

[00:18:39] [SPEAKER_04]: backstory and I was like Danielle is fucking eating this up because she loves nothing more

[00:18:46] [SPEAKER_04]: than a character backstory that you get to create. You know like I loved that part but I

[00:18:54] [SPEAKER_05]: was more confused at the fact that like he had a whole can stir gout thing of gasoline

[00:19:00] [SPEAKER_05]: and he poured the gasoline in the little hut and I believe he left the gasoline in there

[00:19:07] [SPEAKER_05]: until I was expecting more of an explosion than what happened. I was just like how you're not dead.

[00:19:15] [SPEAKER_05]: He wasn't a very good firefighter. He was not. No this was not his journey.

[00:19:21] [SPEAKER_04]: And then of course because I'm watching him with Ken I was like what kind of car is that?

[00:19:25] [SPEAKER_04]: And he like glances up as it's like flipping through the air he's like I believe that's a

[00:19:32] [SPEAKER_04]: Buick Riviera and then like I rewind it for him he goes I think it's a 73 and then in the next

[00:19:39] [SPEAKER_04]: scene Sean Williams Scott's character is like what are we going to do with my 73 Buick

[00:19:45] [SPEAKER_04]: Riv and Ken's like got it. Man that is such a superpower right. My question is the windshield

[00:19:53] [SPEAKER_05]: of his car you could see it in the air separated but then later on he has it again.

[00:20:03] [SPEAKER_04]: I also love when he's like later on still driving the car and he's like leaving his

[00:20:10] [SPEAKER_04]: firefighter test or whatever and the guy's trying to shut the door and he's like I do this and he

[00:20:16] [SPEAKER_04]: like has a wire around the rear view of the side view mirror. Like the little things like that are

[00:20:22] [SPEAKER_04]: like what made me just full on chuckle out loud. I didn't realize how much of the movie

[00:20:29] [SPEAKER_05]: Sean Williams Scott's character is not with the rest of them like with Ira and Harry for a

[00:20:37] [SPEAKER_05]: while like I kept saying like when are they gonna meet like or when are they gonna have their

[00:20:42] [SPEAKER_05]: meet cute together because I was like it was like like they say a lot of these yeah starts in the

[00:20:50] [SPEAKER_03]: movie within like 30 minutes or something that I'm like and it was still 30 minutes and we hadn't

[00:20:53] [SPEAKER_03]: seen all of our core guys together yet. Like yeah when does this happen when does this come together.

[00:20:59] [SPEAKER_05]: I was very disappointed that they weren't having like their meeting yet so yeah we have now met

[00:21:06] [SPEAKER_04]: Wayne the next scene we meet Dr. Ira Kane who is a biology professor and Professor Harry Block who is

[00:21:16] [SPEAKER_04]: a geology professor at a local community college and somehow oh Harry is a part of some sort of

[00:21:25] [SPEAKER_04]: association I feel like he just made that shit up. And so like he's notified and he's the closest

[00:21:34] [SPEAKER_04]: to the impact site so he's asked to go collect samples of the meteorite that roid that has

[00:21:44] [SPEAKER_05]: crashed into the desert. And it is it needs to be noted that in Ira's class in his weird ass

[00:21:52] [SPEAKER_05]: class that he's giving apparently ace to everybody that we meet Danny and Deake who were played

[00:22:00] [SPEAKER_05]: by Michael Bauer and Ethan Sibley. I love a dimwit idiot and his brother. And that's that's

[00:22:08] [SPEAKER_05]: definitely donkey lips right? Yes I don't even know where we were Jenny. So they're at the meteor site

[00:22:14] [SPEAKER_04]: they take their samples and they say that the rock is bleeding I'm like I would have said it's

[00:22:23] [SPEAKER_04]: just like weaving or oozing yeah but they went with bleeding so they gather samples they go back to

[00:22:30] [SPEAKER_04]: the lab Ira is puts it under the microscope they're undergoing very rapid mitosis to the point where

[00:22:38] [SPEAKER_04]: like it like breaks the slide that they're on. And then I was thinking I was like how are they

[00:22:44] [SPEAKER_04]: doing that so rapidly but then like in the cave it doesn't progress as rapidly but then

[00:22:53] [SPEAKER_04]: at the end I was like oh because like there's a heat source because there's a light underneath the

[00:22:58] [SPEAKER_05]: microscope so you can see it. Which okay this confused me because I'm like is it heat or is

[00:23:05] [SPEAKER_05]: it fire right? Because they're in Arizona they should have been popping off the sun alone

[00:23:10] [SPEAKER_04]: should have made them grow. Yes but I think like caves are naturally

[00:23:17] [SPEAKER_04]: yeah they're naturally like 68 degrees or something like that so caves are naturally cool and so I

[00:23:24] [SPEAKER_04]: think that's what slowed down their progression but then like once the dinosaurs got outside

[00:23:30] [SPEAKER_04]: I think like then they're got the sunlight and everything yeah and so they started yeah

[00:23:38] [SPEAKER_05]: I just thought it was really irresponsible for them as scientists to like

[00:23:43] [SPEAKER_05]: something just came from space you see it's oozing you've never seen this before

[00:23:49] [SPEAKER_05]: and you're gonna try to like say this is my finding yeah you better call the

[00:23:55] [SPEAKER_05]: the National Guard because you don't know what the hell that is. And he's like ranting about

[00:24:03] [SPEAKER_04]: 10 base pairs and all forms of life on earth are four base pairs and this is like so obviously you know

[00:24:12] [SPEAKER_04]: it's not from earth we don't know what we're dealing with but it's growing pretty fucking fast

[00:24:18] [SPEAKER_03]: and you don't know what you're doing. Idiots. So they do work at like a community college or

[00:24:26] [SPEAKER_05]: something right so maybe they're not the best of science. But Ira knows he's been in the

[00:24:30] [SPEAKER_05]: we find out later he's been in the government so like he knows what's up he knows what the

[00:24:35] [SPEAKER_05]: protocols do yeah that's true. So I think good no one's gonna say Harry is dumb about it for sure

[00:24:44] [SPEAKER_04]: but Ira knows better. And I love how their next progression is let's take a field trip

[00:24:51] [SPEAKER_04]: and take all of these people they're not even kids they're like full grown adults

[00:24:58] [SPEAKER_04]: and we have like this side character I think her name's like Veronica or something

[00:25:03] [SPEAKER_04]: and she she's really she wants to be Miss Arizona and she's just in college for it for the optics

[00:25:11] [SPEAKER_04]: and she wears like chunky keel

[00:25:16] [SPEAKER_04]: strappy sandals strappy sandals to like this meteorite crash site. But I don't even know it

[00:25:24] [SPEAKER_03]: go ahead. I was gonna say Ira thought of my notes you're like who in their right mind wears open

[00:25:30] [SPEAKER_03]: towed sandals to an underground cave to explore new creatures like why would you do that?

[00:25:37] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know if like one it sounds like something they didn't do but I'm wondering if these idiots

[00:25:43] [SPEAKER_05]: even told her told them where they were going because the kids when they came out they did have

[00:25:49] [SPEAKER_05]: have flashlights right digging things shovels so maybe they knew but I don't know like they don't

[00:25:58] [SPEAKER_05]: seem like responsible teachers at all. But it's so then she's like I don't want to be girly but I

[00:26:06] [SPEAKER_04]: feel some like wiggling around my toes and so there's just a million flatworms all over the way

[00:26:16] [SPEAKER_05]: the way I would have screamed and after just watching the Olympics all those records they broke

[00:26:26] [SPEAKER_05]: dust nothing yet okay dust because there ain't no way it was about this point where I was like

[00:26:34] [SPEAKER_04]: I wonder if Danielle's having the same reaction she has to men in black where she's like

[00:26:40] [SPEAKER_04]: her skin is crawling the entire movie with all of these I was itching I was itching and

[00:26:47] [SPEAKER_05]: as I just had to keep telling myself look at the CGI so it's so fake it's so fake it's not real

[00:26:53] [SPEAKER_05]: it's not real but yeah that flatworm scene yeah that's gross yeah but they figure out like the

[00:27:01] [SPEAKER_04]: flatworms are are living because there's kind of their own atmosphere on the ground

[00:27:08] [SPEAKER_04]: and once you remove them from that atmosphere they die in oxygen so like it can't be too bad

[00:27:15] [SPEAKER_04]: because they can't survive on our planet we breathe oxygen little did they know evolution

[00:27:21] [SPEAKER_04]: the government does get involved and so they kind of take over the site I literally turned

[00:27:29] [SPEAKER_04]: to Ken I was like what what is this tent situation that got going on call what would you call that

[00:27:34] [SPEAKER_05]: human room okay I was like they're tenting for termites yeah

[00:27:42] [SPEAKER_04]: oh did you also notice Danielle one of your crushes is a student

[00:27:49] [SPEAKER_05]: John Cho yeah yes I it was very like I had to go back and look for because I I didn't see him at

[00:27:57] [SPEAKER_05]: first I don't think I was paying attention but yes my boo was in there oh I was immediately

[00:28:02] [SPEAKER_04]: like is that John Cho yes he was student number three

[00:28:08] [SPEAKER_04]: credited as student number three so while the government's getting set up we see Wayne he works

[00:28:17] [SPEAKER_04]: at a resort and he notices that there's flatworms coming out of the pump house so he goes in

[00:28:23] [SPEAKER_04]: and he's kind of investigating grabs the bleach and then he noticed something swimming in the

[00:28:28] [SPEAKER_04]: pump and it's like this little angry swimming creature that's just like at the way he's like

[00:28:36] [SPEAKER_05]: and like just shuts the door he's just like it's not my problem and you know what every step that

[00:28:43] [SPEAKER_05]: he made in that scene I would have probably run had I saw all those things but yeah the way

[00:28:51] [SPEAKER_05]: they wouldn't have gone into the room where the worms no but the way he got sinister and like he

[00:28:58] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to take this bleach and burn these motherfuckers up that's it I would have 100% on that

[00:29:05] [SPEAKER_05]: burn up burn they call me I don't care they would be it would be me or them

[00:29:13] [SPEAKER_04]: so it's about this time that I guess Ira and Harry go back to the site military's taken over

[00:29:22] [SPEAKER_04]: and then we find out that Ira has been dishonorably discharged from the military

[00:29:29] [SPEAKER_04]: because he created an anthrax vaccine illegally administered it to like a whole platoon or

[00:29:36] [SPEAKER_04]: battalion or whatever you call a group of soldiers and they refer to it as keen madness and he's kind

[00:29:44] [SPEAKER_04]: of being subpoenaed or whatever you call like the military term for subpoena where he's put on the

[00:29:51] [SPEAKER_04]: stand in a courtroom and he has to list all of the side effects and it was like he starts out

[00:29:58] [SPEAKER_04]: with like the typical like diarrhea I can't even remember all explosive flatulence

[00:30:08] [SPEAKER_05]: um because one of the guys that scene cracks me up because he was like your name's ira kane

[00:30:14] [SPEAKER_05]: the ira kane and he starts pulling for his gun I was like yeah I would have done the same the

[00:30:20] [SPEAKER_05]: the way those symptoms but I have a question why was Allison deposing him like asking him a

[00:30:29] [SPEAKER_04]: question she's not a lawyer no she's head of the CDC or she's like a scientist for the CDC

[00:30:36] [SPEAKER_05]: but we all know from the CBS classic jag that they have they have lawyers within the military to handle

[00:30:45] [SPEAKER_05]: that so I just found that to be like you know what somebody said you don't need this character let's

[00:30:51] [SPEAKER_04]: just let Allison do it yeah it makes sense well because we need more screen time and banter between

[00:30:59] [SPEAKER_03]: julian moore and david jacob me yeah but I just looked it up it's partial facial paralysis

[00:31:05] [SPEAKER_03]: temporary blindness drooling bleeding gums erectile dysfunction uncontrollable flatulence I think

[00:31:12] [SPEAKER_03]: I love that and then I just know they she asked him one more question jean happened to remember

[00:31:16] [SPEAKER_03]: what the soldiers called this illness and he said yes they called it the kane madness and I'm like

[00:31:21] [SPEAKER_03]: it was such a miss on rhyming there it should have been kane's pain or something like that

[00:31:26] [SPEAKER_04]: this doesn't sit yes the writers missed it there that is a huge miss missed opportunity

[00:31:35] [SPEAKER_04]: and so as ira and harry are driving away from the military site we get full de Kovni moon

[00:31:43] [SPEAKER_04]: as he's just like fuck y'all I'm out and just moons the entire military operation

[00:31:52] [SPEAKER_04]: and then after the court scene he goes back to his lab it's ransacked and I love where he's listing

[00:31:59] [SPEAKER_04]: all the things they took and he goes the jpeg filed right when that happened I said okay

[00:32:08] [SPEAKER_05]: this is 2001 they don't know that they're they're gonna say this and we're gonna think it's

[00:32:14] [SPEAKER_04]: big term like it's some real important shit it has my age well no I literally wrote down not the jpeg

[00:32:23] [SPEAKER_04]: file because then I was like it's a picture yeah like you what pictures of the the slides

[00:32:34] [SPEAKER_04]: of like what are we taking pictures of did you screencap stuff they just use the technology

[00:32:43] [SPEAKER_05]: word that they didn't think the general public was ever gonna know yeah jokes on them they'd have

[00:32:48] [SPEAKER_04]: gone with pdfs that makes way more sense or they could have said jiff yes

[00:32:56] [SPEAKER_04]: so now they just decide to break in because the military is broken into his lab yeah and I had

[00:33:06] [SPEAKER_05]: questions about that I'm like oh so you just pull your old military outfit on and you could just

[00:33:10] [SPEAKER_04]: get into this facility like well they snuck in a little bit they cut some barbed wire

[00:33:17] [SPEAKER_04]: yeah no and so they put on the containment suits which are behind Danielle and

[00:33:25] [SPEAKER_04]: Orlando Jones Harry feels like he's on soul trade

[00:33:34] [SPEAKER_04]: he's just he's in like the little elevator just grooving he's a he's a performer in his own mind

[00:33:45] [SPEAKER_04]: and that's what catches the eye of the the security people watching the monitors they're like

[00:33:50] [SPEAKER_04]: who the fuck is that like there's no sanctioned person supposed to be going down there

[00:33:57] [SPEAKER_05]: and he's like busting a move in the elevator they take so long from a security standpoint to go find

[00:34:05] [SPEAKER_05]: out that they are not supposed to be there yeah the moment that it was kind of weird and it wasn't

[00:34:10] [SPEAKER_05]: like jotted down somewhere that they were supposed to be there security should have gone

[00:34:16] [SPEAKER_05]: immediately you that to check if they've been breached yeah but maybe it's just like in their

[00:34:21] [SPEAKER_05]: mind they didn't think anybody could breach them I don't know but I'm like this can't be

[00:34:26] [SPEAKER_04]: the government but also it probably can be yeah yeah and then unbeknownst to Harry and Ira

[00:34:32] [SPEAKER_04]: they can hear each other through the microphones but control room can also hear them so they call

[00:34:40] [SPEAKER_04]: Allison in he's talking like they're looking at all it because like obviously things are evolving

[00:34:45] [SPEAKER_04]: and so there's all these like little buggy creatures and stuff crawling around there's

[00:34:50] [SPEAKER_04]: like one that has a big it looks like a butt on its head and like Harry is somehow like

[00:34:59] [SPEAKER_04]: aroused by that it's a nasty ass bug butt he's like oh look at that go Harry's just a butt man

[00:35:10] [SPEAKER_04]: you know it's it's fair and then like I was like just snag one just that the snag one so Harry's

[00:35:18] [SPEAKER_04]: going and like talking to the bug like just climb into my hands I'm like you have a thing just scoop

[00:35:25] [SPEAKER_04]: it but then the tree eats it and it's like this creature that looks like a tree where is the net

[00:35:33] [SPEAKER_05]: from animal crossing yeah like it's very easy to catch and then they they start talking about

[00:35:42] [SPEAKER_04]: Allison as they're trying to grab a specimen of some kind they call her her a humorless ice queen

[00:35:49] [SPEAKER_04]: and then Harry says all she needs is a good humping and then proceeds to like hump behind

[00:35:56] [SPEAKER_04]: Ira as they're walking through the cave comedic genius bunch of idiots and then she's like listening

[00:36:07] [SPEAKER_05]: to them go on like high schoolers like you just need to bang her out one good time yes all she needs

[00:36:15] [SPEAKER_04]: Allison goes down as they're trying to get another sample from the meteorite itself she catches them

[00:36:24] [SPEAKER_04]: and Harry throws the pickaxe but he is holding but it only goes two feet and lands in a clump of

[00:36:31] [SPEAKER_03]: nothing the way that he tries to hide his evidence and it fails is so perfect the bug this scene I felt

[00:36:40] [SPEAKER_05]: it I felt it in my body in your skin I was having a symbiotic relationship with Harry and

[00:36:50] [SPEAKER_05]: these in the scene at this point the moment this dragonfly big booty mosquito pecky thing

[00:36:59] [SPEAKER_05]: yeah took its stinger and just slid and cut into his clothes and then he just screams it's in me

[00:37:11] [SPEAKER_05]: there's no way and why does it survive inside of him and not outside of him and when I have

[00:37:21] [SPEAKER_03]: because there's no oxygen inside of him like no free free free but there's that

[00:37:27] [SPEAKER_05]: there is oxygen in there that's all it is in there is oxygen and well and like when he

[00:37:33] [SPEAKER_04]: have like all of these like internal injuries since the bug is like literally tunneling through his

[00:37:39] [SPEAKER_04]: like muscle like he should be dead yeah but instead makes sense they're like it's crawling in his leg

[00:37:47] [SPEAKER_04]: and they're like and they're like we may need to take the leg and then it turns around and

[00:37:52] [SPEAKER_04]: like it's heading for his test testicle and like takes all day

[00:37:59] [SPEAKER_04]: but then it heads towards the colon so they flip him over and the they're having these discussions

[00:38:06] [SPEAKER_04]: like oh we're gonna go in through the rectum blah blah blah there's no time for lubricant

[00:38:12] [SPEAKER_04]: there's always time

[00:38:16] [SPEAKER_05]: but also like I'm no doctor but like I don't think clamps are going up into the colon

[00:38:27] [SPEAKER_03]: to catch a bug and especially also not coming out that clean there'll be a whole mess

[00:38:34] [SPEAKER_05]: a lot yeah and uh yeah so I'm like why did black man had to have fly go up his butt

[00:38:43] [SPEAKER_03]: just saying and I'm also not a doctor but I don't think like a bug going under someone's skin

[00:38:52] [SPEAKER_03]: can just like make their way into the colon like aren't there like organs and

[00:38:56] [SPEAKER_03]: like when you're gonna see such and they're gonna cut through like eight layers of yeah

[00:38:59] [SPEAKER_04]: body parts to get to you or you now have a perforated colon and we have like internal

[00:39:07] [SPEAKER_04]: bleeding and shit we need to be worried about yeah right science wasn't science yeah this is a

[00:39:14] [SPEAKER_04]: very scientifically accurate movie Daniel what are you talking about I got questions

[00:39:22] [SPEAKER_03]: this whole seat from the moment like you described Danielle the the bug slices his

[00:39:29] [SPEAKER_03]: uniform to when he asked for ice cream for his butt at the end I didn't stop laughing it was so

[00:39:35] [SPEAKER_03]: good and he my husband when he watches these with me or watches anything in the evenings he

[00:39:39] [SPEAKER_03]: works in the evenings on his laptop so he's paying maybe 10 in attention to what's going on

[00:39:45] [SPEAKER_03]: on the tv but as soon as this scene started he completely stopped and just laughing the whole time

[00:39:52] [SPEAKER_04]: look at this face comedy genius comedy genius and then Allison in ivera coaching him is if

[00:40:00] [SPEAKER_04]: he's having like giving birth like you they're like breathe you're doing so well I would just

[00:40:07] [SPEAKER_05]: ask to be sedated there he should have been sedated like there's no way there was there's

[00:40:12] [SPEAKER_05]: presentation that is a lie that is a lie so while Ira was getting probed back at the golf

[00:40:25] [SPEAKER_04]: course there's like this fancy party going on Wayne is working and there's like this really

[00:40:32] [SPEAKER_04]: like smarmy guy that's having a picnic on the golf course because it's at night and he's gonna like

[00:40:38] [SPEAKER_04]: bone his lady on the golf course so he has champagne which he wastes like half of opening

[00:40:47] [SPEAKER_05]: also one of the guys that is with Wayne is the actor Jerry trainer who we said earlier that he did

[00:40:56] [SPEAKER_05]: he that's who he beat out for the role and if you like it's not our generation but like a younger

[00:41:03] [SPEAKER_05]: generation watches a show i carly he plays the blood the brother on i carly so I thought

[00:41:08] [SPEAKER_05]: I was like oh I haven't I've never seen him in anything else before so we're too old yeah

[00:41:16] [SPEAKER_03]: and that annoying golf club or country club member guy he's another random cameo he played

[00:41:23] [SPEAKER_03]: president Logan in season I think five of 24 both times I've tried to watch the series of

[00:41:29] [SPEAKER_03]: 24 I've fallen off around season five because he's the most annoying president in the history of 24

[00:41:34] [SPEAKER_04]: so another random so while the guy is like washing the champagne out of his

[00:41:44] [SPEAKER_04]: pans this like kind of alligator drop dragon thing leaps out of the water and essentially eats him

[00:41:54] [SPEAKER_04]: the lady goes screaming into the into the country club and Wayne's like I got this how did Wayne find

[00:42:03] [SPEAKER_05]: out about iron harry he met them when they came on site the first time he was trying to leave for

[00:42:13] [SPEAKER_05]: firefighting test so that's how he met them the first time but that creature that like

[00:42:23] [SPEAKER_05]: there the there's nothing that could have got me to collect that carcass okay they chase around

[00:42:32] [SPEAKER_05]: not not the thickest gloves not a hazmat suit and the teeth this is my grandma said look at the

[00:42:41] [SPEAKER_05]: teeth yes look at the teeth gross like they were this big they oh Jesus oh Jesus

[00:42:56] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm unwell you're reliving it I have a serious question for me but I know it's a ridiculous

[00:43:11] [SPEAKER_03]: question I've never seen a possum dead on the side of road the most humane thing that you could do is

[00:43:16] [SPEAKER_03]: check it for babies and its pouch would you be able to do that

[00:43:24] [SPEAKER_04]: well if you want to hear Danielle's reaction to Heather's hypothetical question head on over

[00:43:31] [SPEAKER_04]: to patreon.com and become a no more late fees bestie to get all of the juice

[00:43:42] [SPEAKER_04]: so now we're in just like a book club's home and this is my favorite little squishy

[00:43:51] [SPEAKER_05]: I the way that these women were so calm when they saw just like I think you got a

[00:43:57] [SPEAKER_05]: bestie and best station I would have been like Mary I gotta go

[00:44:05] [SPEAKER_05]: I will see you later I don't know what you got going on over here girl I've got an exterminator on

[00:44:12] [SPEAKER_05]: speed dial I will send you the link I'm out of here I wouldn't even had all that conversation

[00:44:18] [SPEAKER_05]: and I would never eat over there again yeah you can't and I want to know is was there a

[00:44:24] [SPEAKER_04]: breakdown between the script and the CGI were these ladies just not like did they need their

[00:44:29] [SPEAKER_03]: ice check because they kept calling it a dog there's no dog I would say I would have said

[00:44:36] [SPEAKER_04]: a frog or a toad or something yeah like some sort of amphibian yeah what when I y'all are saying

[00:44:42] [SPEAKER_05]: it's cute it is because like I know it's CGI but if I had seen that in real life the

[00:44:51] [SPEAKER_05]: the absolute high-pitched scream and the jump like I would have been any hurdles champion

[00:45:02] [SPEAKER_05]: because I don't know those like I think the thing that scares me the most in this world

[00:45:11] [SPEAKER_05]: isn't just like these creepy animals but things that I have never seen before

[00:45:17] [SPEAKER_05]: you know when they keep discovering new animals in the ocean that's why I don't

[00:45:21] [SPEAKER_05]: fuck with the ocean it's scared it's like I'm like what else is down there trying to come up from

[00:45:29] [SPEAKER_05]: the seeps of the earth to find me that's how I feel I want to send you so many animals but I

[00:45:34] [SPEAKER_03]: don't know I don't want to make it hard for you no so yeah they're trying to pet the dog

[00:45:41] [SPEAKER_04]: and a little chicken tongue comes out bites the lady's hand the other lady goes to get a gun

[00:45:52] [SPEAKER_04]: because she's going to shoot the dog now and then he like starts gasping for air and then

[00:45:59] [SPEAKER_04]: deflates like a little balloon very sad let me tell you

[00:46:09] [SPEAKER_05]: again I wouldn't have even gotten like I wouldn't have gotten to this little

[00:46:13] [SPEAKER_05]: gremlin thing whatever this is this this worm animal I don't know what the hell to call it

[00:46:19] [SPEAKER_05]: I would have been gone okay the moment I saw those dead fucking bugs in her house gone

[00:46:28] [SPEAKER_05]: and somebody would have had to text me in the group talking about girl when you left

[00:46:33] [SPEAKER_05]: there was this green thing that came out and we thought it was a dog and then we went to pet it

[00:46:38] [SPEAKER_05]: or Mary went to pet it and then this turkey ass tongue came out and bit her girl I said then

[00:46:44] [SPEAKER_05]: that's why I mother fucking left and book club I'm getting a new one because there ain't no way

[00:46:49] [SPEAKER_05]: y'all don't clean your house because that's how I got a new house yeah well and the lady that

[00:46:56] [SPEAKER_04]: got bit is cousin Catherine from the national ampoune's vacation series that's what she's from I

[00:47:05] [SPEAKER_03]: didn't recognize her pami knows all over the place doesn't eddie's wife yes

[00:47:13] [SPEAKER_04]: so at the same time like the like obviously they call 911 because the deflating dog

[00:47:21] [SPEAKER_04]: is worrisome for them and Ira Harry and Wayne are at a diner eating breakfast

[00:47:29] [SPEAKER_04]: and hit another like laugh out loud part was when like Wayne is just like hoovering food into his mouth

[00:47:42] [SPEAKER_04]: and Harry looks over he's like are you gonna eat your bacon and way just goes I ordered it

[00:47:49] [SPEAKER_04]: didn't I like the delivery on that like like why wouldn't I eat it yeah yeah

[00:47:58] [SPEAKER_04]: so they're sitting there and I was ex girlfriend is there and there's like some

[00:48:05] [SPEAKER_04]: thing about like cheating given back his shirt so they're yelling at one another really

[00:48:09] [SPEAKER_05]: it's a really dumb scene yes like I just felt like they could have taken it out it

[00:48:14] [SPEAKER_05]: wasn't needed it's probably also because I hate Sarah Silverman yeah like yeah so her new boyfriend

[00:48:22] [SPEAKER_04]: is a cop and so they overhear his dispatch go off and say that there's a 1272 and because Wayne

[00:48:32] [SPEAKER_04]: is studying to become a firefighter he's like that's an animal attack I wonder if it's related

[00:48:36] [SPEAKER_04]: to all these animals because Wayne has brought them the dead body of like the alligator thing

[00:48:41] [SPEAKER_04]: that ate the guy so they all are like okay let's go and check it out so they show up they kind of just

[00:48:48] [SPEAKER_04]: like sweet talk their way into the house type thing and so Harry and Ira are looking at

[00:48:54] [SPEAKER_04]: little squidgy here and Wayne is just wandering around the property well this house sits at

[00:49:01] [SPEAKER_04]: the top of like a hill overlooking the desert and there's just dragons flying dinosaurs as far as

[00:49:11] [SPEAKER_04]: the eye can see they're all dead but there's a shit ton of them yeah so they're like they're evolving

[00:49:17] [SPEAKER_04]: even more and then that's when they figure out like all the caves are interconnected and so

[00:49:22] [SPEAKER_04]: they're getting out into the communities surrounding the impact site which the government

[00:49:29] [SPEAKER_05]: should have known that was going to happen yeah like science yeah but

[00:49:37] [SPEAKER_05]: they're they're trying to figure that shit out like what to do next because I think they find one

[00:49:43] [SPEAKER_05]: of the dragons they're going they're trying to go find one of the dragons flying I guess that's

[00:49:47] [SPEAKER_04]: where we're gonna call it I don't know yeah well so they go down to all the dead dragons

[00:49:52] [SPEAKER_04]: and one starts moving around and they're like they can't survive in our atmosphere

[00:49:57] [SPEAKER_04]: but then he like loogies up a baby dragon a baby sack yeah he gave birth through his mouth

[00:50:07] [SPEAKER_04]: which is a weird way to procreate but whatever right and this baby dragon is oxygen tolerant so now

[00:50:16] [SPEAKER_04]: there's an even bigger problem because now they can survive in earth's atmosphere so now we're at

[00:50:27] [SPEAKER_04]: there's this girl stealing a bunch of shit in a dressing room the dragon is flying through the mall

[00:50:34] [SPEAKER_04]: he like busts through the dressing room grabs her so the dragon now has this girl flying through

[00:50:42] [SPEAKER_04]: the mall Ira, Harry and Wayne grab shotguns and are like trying to find it but it's like

[00:50:49] [SPEAKER_04]: hiding now and so then Wayne finds a microphone doesn't he do kaka like Sean Mullins got doesn't

[00:50:59] [SPEAKER_05]: he do kaka kaka in another movie I could not place it I don't know what he does I know like the kaka

[00:51:07] [SPEAKER_04]: kaka tukituki is from the original George of the Jungle Cartoon is that original weird I apologize

[00:51:15] [SPEAKER_05]: here's my question if fire gets them all riled up right why would a gunshot not

[00:51:29] [SPEAKER_05]: cause issue why would it kill them instead of like well it's still tearing through their flesh

[00:51:35] [SPEAKER_05]: yeah it still causes trauma yeah I'm sure but so did the napalm no

[00:51:42] [SPEAKER_04]: no because it's it's like it's it's explosion right but I think napalm is like inhaling inhaled

[00:51:51] [SPEAKER_04]: yeah and it like incinerates you at the same time I was just confused by that yeah by the gun

[00:51:59] [SPEAKER_04]: situation I just flipped the page in my notes and we forgot a couple of memorable things that Harry

[00:52:05] [SPEAKER_04]: says when the baby loogie comes out the first is he goes great google mooga

[00:52:12] [SPEAKER_04]: but then he also when the the loogie dragon emerges he says mausoleum it's a boy

[00:52:23] [SPEAKER_04]: back to Wayne on the mic so then he gets the kaka so he does the kaka but this is the moment

[00:52:32] [SPEAKER_05]: I realized that essentially he has a mullet in this movie yes that I don't know why I didn't realize

[00:52:39] [SPEAKER_05]: until this this until the scene but yeah he's singing on the mic and he somehow that's the dragon call

[00:52:46] [SPEAKER_04]: kaka well he's like kaka kaka tukituki tukituki and Orlando Jones just looks at it like

[00:52:55] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm gonna kill him and obviously kaka kaka and tukituki don't work but it's more like melodic than

[00:53:04] [SPEAKER_03]: that he like sings all I can't even impersonate it but it's so it's so good it's top three like moments

[00:53:12] [SPEAKER_05]: in this movie so good and he has kind of a good voice when he starts to really sing a little bit

[00:53:18] [SPEAKER_05]: and then he's not knowing the words and does a horrible job yeah he starts singing you are so beautiful

[00:53:26] [SPEAKER_05]: to me can't you see I do love that the dragon kidnaps like all those people there but he goes

[00:53:37] [SPEAKER_05]: and knocks on the dressing room door of his girl who's clearly layering a bunch of clothes on because

[00:53:44] [SPEAKER_05]: she's teething and he knocks on the door she finally opens it and he grabs her and he's flying

[00:53:50] [SPEAKER_05]: around with her he doesn't eat her which I'm I was surprised because why doesn't he just attack her

[00:53:56] [SPEAKER_05]: and eat her right so they make sure that they get the girl when the the dragon comes

[00:54:03] [SPEAKER_05]: and that's when they can start shooting it and they kill it dead I was I didn't remember the

[00:54:11] [SPEAKER_05]: scene like I don't remember I didn't really remember much from the original movie like when

[00:54:17] [SPEAKER_05]: I first saw it so all of this was like brand new so I for some reason thought the dragon was gonna

[00:54:22] [SPEAKER_05]: come back to life I don't know why the second yeah they had to do like that kill double tap yeah and

[00:54:29] [SPEAKER_04]: then immediately I really like this transition where like they're real proud they've killed

[00:54:33] [SPEAKER_04]: this dragon and then it's them in iris jeep driving back out to the military base and it the music is

[00:54:42] [SPEAKER_04]: play that funky music white boy and they're just fucking jam it like they are having their moment

[00:54:48] [SPEAKER_04]: and that's when they we are introduced to dan ackridge character he's the governor of arizona

[00:54:55] [SPEAKER_04]: he's pissed no one's told him about what's happening in his fucking hell yeah it's my state

[00:55:02] [SPEAKER_05]: and y'all didn't think to tell me whatsoever so we could come up with a plan to tell the people in the town

[00:55:10] [SPEAKER_05]: this reminds me of teen wolf the tv show because on teen wolf and even on buffy

[00:55:17] [SPEAKER_05]: when vampires would like attack people they would just be like oh it's an animal attack and it just

[00:55:22] [SPEAKER_04]: kept happening yeah like y'all ain't got this under control yet at one point harry yells

[00:55:31] [SPEAKER_04]: at i think it's the general or whoever liar liar pans on fire but i can't remember why

[00:55:38] [SPEAKER_05]: i think it oh it's because they're they he was saying that they broke into his lab or whatever so

[00:55:46] [SPEAKER_05]: they they busted in on the governor and an allison and all of them having a meeting

[00:55:54] [SPEAKER_05]: because they were they're like we just hunted down this damn dragon y'all don't know what the hell

[00:55:59] [SPEAKER_05]: is going on and so they were they're the scientists who found them first so like they're going back

[00:56:05] [SPEAKER_05]: and forth because the the sergeant is that is that what he's saying that he's lying on them

[00:56:14] [SPEAKER_05]: essentially so he said the lie that they kind of like fucked it up and it really isn't so that's

[00:56:19] [SPEAKER_04]: what makes him go lie liar liar pans on fire so they decide the military decides we're gonna

[00:56:26] [SPEAKER_04]: just nuke him with napalm and like they've said like the next day at noon that's when this is gonna

[00:56:32] [SPEAKER_04]: happen so an allison she doesn't agree she doesn't agree with doing a napalm she thinks that they

[00:56:39] [SPEAKER_05]: need more time to kind of figure stuff out like scientifically it just you don't just blow this

[00:56:43] [SPEAKER_05]: stuff up i guess for a scientist all they've ever wanted is to find aliens they want to study

[00:56:50] [SPEAKER_05]: it they want to figure out why it's being able to evolve like napalming them would just

[00:56:55] [SPEAKER_05]: completely get rid of all the evidence and stuff so i think that's why she's pissed and that's why she

[00:57:00] [SPEAKER_04]: goes with iran harry and wane yeah back to school yeah they're back at the lab and she steals their

[00:57:07] [SPEAKER_04]: research back like from like as she's leaving so she gives it to them they're kind of looking at things

[00:57:17] [SPEAKER_04]: harry is dumb he like lights a cigarette and then flicks the match which lands in the petri

[00:57:23] [SPEAKER_04]: dish of blue blood goo and like it starts like rapid evolution of the cells so they're like oh fires

[00:57:32] [SPEAKER_04]: an accelerant for the the species and then at the same time go ahead i was gonna say and deak and danie

[00:57:43] [SPEAKER_05]: end up being with them too because when they're walking into the school they're having

[00:57:48] [SPEAKER_05]: like all the students are just piring they're like the end of the world whatever and so i forget why

[00:57:54] [SPEAKER_05]: they follow the professors but they end up being with them too yeah when this accelerates and

[00:58:02] [SPEAKER_04]: they're trying to figure out a plan yeah and allison is wearing a shirt with a periodic table on it

[00:58:08] [SPEAKER_04]: and so they're like ira's looking at a is like well if you do the night move on a chess board

[00:58:14] [SPEAKER_04]: because this is science yeah it's literally what he does wear oxygen based life forms and

[00:58:25] [SPEAKER_05]: they're nitrogen based life forms so when you do the same move if on our side arsenic is the thing

[00:58:32] [SPEAKER_05]: that is poisonous to us then they go down and cillium is what should be poisonous to them and

[00:58:38] [SPEAKER_05]: then they're trying to figure out how do we get that much and then this is when deak and danie

[00:58:43] [SPEAKER_05]: become in clutch and they're like oh we can get it for you no problem and they're like what do you

[00:58:48] [SPEAKER_05]: mean you could get it like head and shoulders baby why do you think our scalps are just so nice and

[00:58:55] [SPEAKER_05]: like free yeah so i was like damn but how did they get so much of it what was their hookup with

[00:59:04] [SPEAKER_05]: just go to stores walmart i guess i don't know that's a valid question because like

[00:59:11] [SPEAKER_05]: did they go to sam's club like what's going on here how'd they get so much and and they go back

[00:59:18] [SPEAKER_04]: with this plan and at the same time there's they're watching the like monitors of like

[00:59:25] [SPEAKER_04]: was happening down in the cave and now the creatures have evolved to primates and they're

[00:59:31] [SPEAKER_04]: like actively smashing all of the cameras opinions about the primates they blue monkeys

[00:59:40] [SPEAKER_05]: are terrifying like i didn't think it could get worse and it did because those animals seem so close

[00:59:49] [SPEAKER_05]: to something that i already knew that it made me freak out even more and then it also reminded me

[00:59:55] [SPEAKER_05]: of what they look jim carrey and david wins and oh yeah from yeah and jeff goldblum that look

[01:00:07] [SPEAKER_05]: kind of reminded me of what they look like before they got their makeovers

[01:00:11] [SPEAKER_05]: so that kind of like calmed me down a little bit but all in all your girl was scared okay those things

[01:00:19] [SPEAKER_04]: were really scary yeah there is also a part i guess when allison gets in the car with them to leave

[01:00:25] [SPEAKER_04]: ira asked do you think you could ever be attracted to me so he asked allison that so as

[01:00:33] [SPEAKER_05]: i felt like their romance was just forced and unneeded like they had they didn't have enough

[01:00:40] [SPEAKER_05]: moments for me to be invested in this it almost just felt like this thing that i'm like situation

[01:00:45] [SPEAKER_05]: we focus on what the problem is i would have been fine and at the end they like kissed

[01:00:51] [SPEAKER_05]: fine but like these weird moments just felt heavy handed instead of like natural if that makes

[01:00:59] [SPEAKER_03]: sense yeah i didn't mind the like banter between them if it had just stayed at banter like you

[01:01:04] [SPEAKER_03]: understand there's like this underlying sexual tension maybe there's a past maybe there's gonna be

[01:01:08] [SPEAKER_03]: a future but we don't spend any time on that in this yeah you know yeah i also don't think their

[01:01:14] [SPEAKER_05]: chemistry was so smoking hot that it made any sense for me like the way that they dumbed down

[01:01:21] [SPEAKER_05]: this very smart beautiful woman doesn't make any sense me her sleeping with him in the fire

[01:01:28] [SPEAKER_05]: truck in the midst of all this doesn't make any sense for me that's just my thoughts because i'm

[01:01:32] [SPEAKER_04]: like i know allison she went to addition now they have this plan they come into your fire truck

[01:01:42] [SPEAKER_04]: and fill it with selenium head and shoulders and which selenium wasn't added to a head and

[01:01:51] [SPEAKER_04]: shoulders shampoo until after the movie so they were wrong at the time did they create their special

[01:02:00] [SPEAKER_05]: sauce i think they actually what they approached head and shoulders prior to the movie to see if

[01:02:07] [SPEAKER_05]: they want to be included and i think at first they said no and then afterwards because i think it

[01:02:13] [SPEAKER_05]: was the i forgot whose idea on set it was to make the commercial that they have at the end

[01:02:20] [SPEAKER_05]: but i i do believe that they actually used the commercial later head and shoulders actually

[01:02:26] [SPEAKER_05]: used it as a commercial later since like after the movie so yeah they got on board eventually

[01:02:32] [SPEAKER_04]: so they were driving the fire truck full of head and shoulders to the site where they're

[01:02:39] [SPEAKER_04]: supposed to napalm and they're trying to get there to do their selenium before the napalm

[01:02:44] [SPEAKER_04]: happens and allison turns to ira and she was like i would have rocked your world

[01:02:51] [SPEAKER_04]: and so like we get another like random like okay cool so they show up and like

[01:02:58] [SPEAKER_04]: the this is danielle's one of danielle's favorite scenes where the the governor is like oh you're

[01:03:06] [SPEAKER_04]: keeping my seat warm for me because he wants a real view of the napalm i don't know what he orders

[01:03:12] [SPEAKER_05]: but it impresses me so much because i'm like yes i would like that i would like to barf that order

[01:03:18] [SPEAKER_05]: at someone oh i need a hot chocolate and something i don't know what he asked for but i was like yes

[01:03:23] [SPEAKER_05]: get that man his hot chocolate oh also the selenium is also made as a reference in ghostbusters

[01:03:32] [SPEAKER_05]: when re explains the specifics of danielle's building so i guess i've been really likes

[01:03:39] [SPEAKER_05]: likes it i don't know because like how often does that come up in life we need to commit it to memory

[01:03:47] [SPEAKER_03]: so when the end of the world comes up or the alien innovation comes around it's on to something

[01:03:54] [SPEAKER_04]: it's worked twice before so they're a little too late they've already started to napalm and you

[01:04:09] [SPEAKER_04]: and so they're like why has a butthole yeah i don't sorry do one cell organisms have a butthole

[01:04:16] [SPEAKER_03]: no not i don't think so it's just maybe it's the point of origin like it's the birthing hole

[01:04:26] [SPEAKER_05]: i love how like it has a butthole and then if you watch have you ever seen the scary the

[01:04:32] [SPEAKER_05]: jordan pill movie nope spoilers if you haven't there's a similar situation of a like like it has

[01:04:40] [SPEAKER_05]: some sort of mouth butthole thing because it's just like sucking it up and it's like very similar

[01:04:47] [SPEAKER_05]: that that's like the point of entry and then also an independence day so okay when we're dealing with

[01:04:53] [SPEAKER_05]: aliens alien but holes alien but holes is just like this thing yeah that's what makes things happen

[01:05:04] [SPEAKER_04]: i love i love talking about an alien but hole

[01:05:10] [SPEAKER_04]: so it's big and giant and wobbly and it's starting to go through mitosis so they're like we have to

[01:05:16] [SPEAKER_04]: hurry the fuck up because there's about to be more of these bitches and so harry is at the top of

[01:05:22] [SPEAKER_04]: the ladder and he has the fire hose and he's like trying to get it up there but he can't really

[01:05:27] [SPEAKER_04]: and then like the sphincter muscles contract and then he gets sucked up into the alien but hole

[01:05:36] [SPEAKER_04]: like that like it goes down and then it comes up um and so harry's inside but he's committed to his role

[01:05:45] [SPEAKER_04]: and he gets everything in there and then it explodes everywhere you know this entire scene was

[01:05:53] [SPEAKER_05]: very hard for me to watch i did it but then what really made me want to throw up in my mouth is

[01:05:59] [SPEAKER_05]: that once the the deed was done and they were back on solid ground that ira and allison start making

[01:06:09] [SPEAKER_05]: making out they start making out what nasty ass

[01:06:16] [SPEAKER_05]: dead parts on them but hole goo and when they make out allison pulls back

[01:06:24] [SPEAKER_05]: wipes his face with the hands that are already covered with the goo and then goes to proceed

[01:06:29] [SPEAKER_05]: to make out again there ain't i just oh booty hole goo make out scene i just because like ew yeah

[01:06:43] [SPEAKER_04]: she like wipes away her mouth it's terrible but then they all live happily ever after

[01:06:51] [SPEAKER_04]: maybe at the amrindiji act maybe oh and they get a head and shoulders promo deal

[01:06:58] [SPEAKER_05]: i love that harry when he they do the commercial his head and shoulders is backwards like it's not even

[01:07:06] [SPEAKER_04]: facing the right way we did it guys we did evolution i love this movie look at that

[01:07:14] [SPEAKER_05]: not love this space totally doesn't my eyes twitching

[01:07:22] [SPEAKER_05]: want to see what fun facts that we missed so far so when orlando jones's character harry is

[01:07:31] [SPEAKER_04]: admiring that alien bug booty this is a direct reference to his successful seven-up advertising

[01:07:39] [SPEAKER_04]: campaign for viewers to show us your cans i remember that commercial like i kept thinking

[01:07:47] [SPEAKER_05]: how did he get that for a second i thought it was bright but it was seven up you're right at the end

[01:07:51] [SPEAKER_05]: of the film when we're we just talking about the head and shoulders commercial the idea of the

[01:07:56] [SPEAKER_05]: commercial actually came from jason right right in the son of ivan which i thought was nice now

[01:08:04] [SPEAKER_04]: he's a director so evolution was based on a story by don jacoby who originally wrote it as a serious

[01:08:10] [SPEAKER_04]: science fiction horror thriller until a rightman hired david diamond and david weissman to rewrite

[01:08:18] [SPEAKER_04]: much of the script into a comedy with which jacoby did like and then the rewritten script also

[01:08:24] [SPEAKER_04]: combined elements of another screenplay which was a comedy written by todd phillips and scott

[01:08:29] [SPEAKER_04]: armstrong about three friends who hunt aliens so it kind of is a little collab effort

[01:08:38] [SPEAKER_05]: yeah and apparently jacoby was initially upset about the script of like the change of tone in

[01:08:47] [SPEAKER_05]: the atmosphere but diamond and weissman worked really closely with him to ensure that the

[01:08:52] [SPEAKER_05]: final product was something he was happy with and i guess he was because yeah i didn't hear any

[01:08:56] [SPEAKER_03]: complaints after that so the original script actually ended with the alien organisms evolving

[01:09:02] [SPEAKER_03]: into an ultra intelligent humanoid species but and it would have climaxed with a battle of wits

[01:09:09] [SPEAKER_03]: but the ending was deemed not exciting enough and was replaced instead with the climax scene in

[01:09:14] [SPEAKER_04]: the final film i just imagine it being like the end of billy madison where they're just like

[01:09:22] [SPEAKER_05]: nothing you said made any sense

[01:09:27] [SPEAKER_05]: we are all dumber yeah so the movie was shot in december and dreamworks actually went and asked

[01:09:37] [SPEAKER_05]: the locals to delay putting up their christmas decorations and so following the shoot dreamworks

[01:09:42] [SPEAKER_05]: were paid for the city employees to have overtime and light up the town in time for christmas so

[01:09:48] [SPEAKER_04]: the clumsiness in allison was julian moore's idea i liked it i like those little like stumbles

[01:09:56] [SPEAKER_04]: or her jacket getting caught in the door okay so early in the film we talked about nidine

[01:10:03] [SPEAKER_05]: well she says that she wants to be miss arizona so that part where the governor is presenting

[01:10:10] [SPEAKER_05]: awards to all the heroes at the end you can see nidine in the background wearing a miss arizona

[01:10:16] [SPEAKER_05]: sash so i give props for my girl following her dreams she made the dream she manifested it good

[01:10:22] [SPEAKER_05]: all right well if you have any thoughts about this movie any of our hard opinions make sure to

[01:10:33] [SPEAKER_05]: hit us up at no more leap fees on instagram facebook tick tock twitter youtube and threads

[01:10:37] [SPEAKER_05]: and let's get into our present day ratings heather i didn't want to say the same answer i had as my

[01:10:45] [SPEAKER_03]: y2k self because i feel like every movie i review is one of my favorites and i come out the same but

[01:10:49] [SPEAKER_03]: i really have to would buy would buy it again i just i love this movie anytime i see it on i will

[01:10:54] [SPEAKER_03]: watch it it's very enjoyable all right jackie what was your rating it will forever be a would buy

[01:11:01] [SPEAKER_04]: it i just love it it makes me happy it makes me laugh out loud it makes me think of dad it's

[01:11:07] [SPEAKER_04]: it's always going to be one of those connor family classics i'm not saying i feel pressure

[01:11:20] [SPEAKER_05]: there were a lot of creepy crawlies in there for you it was so hard i don't know

[01:11:28] [SPEAKER_05]: why i liked it so much the first time when i know how i feel about these creepy crawlies

[01:11:35] [SPEAKER_05]: but yeah i think this one is definitely like a nostalgia thing i i know that we watched it a

[01:11:40] [SPEAKER_05]: lot growing up and so i'm going to say would buy it again because pressure and

[01:11:50] [SPEAKER_05]: and you know what i love when a ron connelly classic especially gets put on our uh 2024 employee
