Event Horizon (1997): Sam Neill, Laurence Fishburne & Space Horror

Seven years lost in space, a spaceship straight out of hell, and Sam Neill making some deeply questionable decisions. What could possibly go wrong? This week on No More Late Fees, Jackie and Danielle revisit Event Horizon (1997), the cult sci-fi horror movie starring Laurence Fishburne and Sam Neill. Joining them are returning guests Mike and Mike from Mike and Mike Go to the Movies and The Complete Works. But does this '90s horror favorite deserve its cult classic status, or should it stay lost somewhere near Neptune?

From a spaceship that looks like a medieval torture chamber to the infamous footage that was too disturbing for theaters, there's plenty to unpack. The crew debates Paul W.S. Anderson's filmmaking choices, Sam Neill's increasingly unhinged performance, and why nobody thought to question a hallway that resembles a meat grinder. Plus, Danielle tries to make sense of the disturbing visions, Jackie struggles with the science of bending space, and Mike and Mike explain why this bloody blend of Alien, Hellraiser, and The Shining is worth revisiting.

With two first-time viewers and two longtime fans aboard, will Event Horizon earn a better rating in the Ratings Rewind, or is this one rescue mission nobody should have accepted? Tune in for a nostalgic movie review filled with '90s horror, Y2K nostalgia, and plenty of laughs. Follow No More Late Fees on Spotify and leave us a rating!

[00:00:00] Seven Years Missing, An Empty Ship, A Distress Signal from Somewhere Near Neptune. Pack your bags because apparently we're ignoring every warning sign and boarding the Event Horizon. No More Late Fees, I'm Danielle.

[00:00:26] And I'm Jackie, and we're just two best friends and ex-Blockbuster employees rewatching some of the best and worst movies from the late 90s and early 2000s. This week we're revisiting the 1997 sci-fi horror Event Horizon. But before we dive in, let's get into some housekeeping. If you love the podcast and you want to support us, here's how you can.

[00:00:56] Well, turn your nostalgia into a fashion statement. Head over to nomorelatefees.redbubble.com and shop No More Late Fees merch to add to your wardrobe. And this week we're not boarding the Event Horizon alone. Joining us are Mike and Mike from Mike and Mike Go to the Movies and the Complete Works Podcast. Here to help us figure out what's worse, deep space, interdimensional hell, or agreeing to guest on this podcast. Again and again. Again and again. Hello!

[00:01:25] Welcome! Thank you guys so much for having us again. We would not let you board the Event Horizon without us, of course. Never, yes. We wish we didn't board the Event Horizon. What she said.

[00:01:39] If you want to get to know Mike and Mike better, make sure you check out their previous episodes of Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Daredevil, and our Mission Impossible double feature, as well as this week's bonus episode where they join us for a trip through some of the worst vacation destinations in movie history. All right, Jackie, what is this movie about? And honestly, I'm not just asking because that's our schtick. I'm asking because I still don't know. Yeah.

[00:02:08] No, he folds the piece of paper and puts the pen through it. Come on. Explain it. That I actually, I knew that before you said it because they must have done it in another movie or science explanation. Yeah, any time there's a wormhole in a movie, I think it originates from Event Horizon. I think it's from this. Oh. Because I remember when Interstellar did it, they did the same thing where they fold the piece of paper, they put the pencil through. My friends and I were like, look at Event Horizon. Well, I think it's based on... It's the prestige Event Horizon happening right now.

[00:02:37] I think it's based on real theoretical science. Sure. Yeah. Yes. And there's nothing about Event Horizon if not scientifically accurate. It's an incredibly correct 100% movie. All right, Jackie, what is this movie about? Ooh. Okay. In 2047, not too far in the future. Soon. Yeah. I think in the opening credits of the movie, it says like 2017 or something. Yeah. Earth goes to Mars or whatever. It's like, oh. Yeah.

[00:03:07] We've passed that now. Yeah. This timeline is off. So in 2047, Captain Miller, played by Lawrence Fishburnee, and the crew of the Lewis and Clark are sent to investigate the Event Horizon, an experimental spacecraft that vanished seven years ago and has suddenly reappeared near Neptune.

[00:03:27] Along for the ride is the ship's creator, Dr. William Weir, played by Sam Neill, who explains that its gravity drive was designed to bend space and travel faster than light. With the original crew, and the ship's fate. With the original crew missing, disturbing visions taking over, and the ship using everyone's deepest fears against them, Miller and his crew quickly discover this rescue mission is less Star Trek and more haunted house in space.

[00:03:52] Now they have to escape before the event horizon takes them back to wherever it's spent the last seven years. It stars Lawrence Fishburne, Sam Neill, Kathleen Quinlan, Julie Richardson, Richard T. Jones, Jack Noseworthy, Jason Isaacs, and Sean Pertwee. It was written by Philip Eisner and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, who also did Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil. The old Resident Evil. Yes. Yeah.

[00:04:22] The OG Resident Evil. And you can currently watch it on Paramount Plus. 2B. For free. Or 2B. Thank you. Oh, nice. But before we start, let's get into our ratings rewind. So you know the drill. Before we get into the movie, we'll reveal the rating our Y2K cells would give, and then at the end we'll reveal if our current cells would agree with our initial rating. Scale consists of would buy it, would buy it again. The best would play on repeat.

[00:04:53] 5-day rental. Would watch again. 2-day rental. Okay, but nothing to write home about. And same-day rental. Trash. Send it back to home. Where it belongs. So Mike asks, what is your Y2K rating of Event Horizon? Yeah, so the Y2K rating, the version of myself that saw Event Horizon for the first time.

[00:05:19] I definitely saw this probably when I was in high school, like a budding cinephile who was kind of getting into some more serious stuff. And I think at the time, I definitely felt like I was more, I was above Event Horizon. This felt schlockier to me. I was very anti-Paul W.S. Anderson. He was somebody in the same breath as like a Michael Bay who was like, ah, he makes trash, whatever. You know, that said, you know, and I had seen a few of other Paul W.S. Anderson's movies at that point. I'd seen The Resident Evils, which I wasn't really a big fan of.

[00:05:48] I'd seen Mortal Kombat, which I didn't like that much. No, you said, let me do this one. Well, eventually I watched Event Horizon because I was told like, this is the good one. And I watched it and I definitely liked it more than those movies. And I had a decent enough time with it. But I think at the time, I probably would have said two-day rental. Like, okay, but nothing to write home about. It's kind of where I probably would have landed back in the day. Perfect. Mike D? Yeah, probably similar situation. I don't remember when I saw this for the first time.

[00:06:18] I wasn't a big horror movie guy like until college. So I probably avoided it for a while. Well, I mean, I also don't think this movie had a big cult until sort of recently also. Or a big reclamation rather, I guess is what I should say. It was definitely a movie I feel like when I was in college, people were talking about. Like when it hit Netflix, people were like, oh, guys, Event Horizon's on Netflix. So it eventually became a movie I did like a lot more. Yeah, but I believe also I would have been in the same two-day rental. Same like, yeah, it's like, okay, whatever. It's fine.

[00:06:48] It's fine. Would be my initial. If I was not, you know, a young age in 1997 and had seen this in the theater, I probably would have thought that. Danielle? I remember exactly where I was when I saw that, this movie. And it was on my couch today because I had never seen it before. Incredible. I'm right there with you. In my recliner because I'm an old lady. Watching it.

[00:07:17] And Ken invited my brother Johnny over to see it. So my mom came with him. And Johnny sold it as just like some sci-fi movie to mom. And I text messaged my friends halfway through. And I was like, you know a movie is not scary when Miss Terry is only screamed once. Like, yeah. So, yeah. That was recently for me as well. And surprise, surprise.

[00:07:45] I was like, where is Sharon Stone? Because I thought she was in this. But that's Sphere. I think you're thinking of Total Recall. That would probably be the one. No. I'm thinking of Sphere. Oh, okay. Oh, yes. The Cube. No, oh, wait. Right. Well, tell us about the box office, Danielle. Well, this movie came out August 15, 1997. It had a budget of $60 million. And it made $47 million. So, obviously, it did not. Nice. Did not hit.

[00:08:16] It did not get its money back. Okay. Let's look at what the box office is looking like. At number one, we had Copland. Is that the one? That's Sylvester Stallone. Is that John Travolta? No, Sylvester Stallone. It's directed by James Mangold. I've actually never seen it. I've heard great things. But, yeah. It's like a kind of crime drama movie with Sylvester Stallone in it. Yeah. Then we got my baby boy, Harrison Ford. At number two, with Air Force One. Yeah. And number three. Get off my plane.

[00:08:47] At number three, what I describe myself as, conspiracy theory. Yep. Ist. Somehow it ties back to the Swifties. Yeah. Number four, Event Horizon. And number five, Spawn, which I don't think enough people have seen. I was, so this was 97. Probably in like 99, 2000. I was probably like seven years old and at a friend's house. And his older brother, Lorenzo, had a DVD copy of Spawn. And we stole it and watched it.

[00:09:17] And I had a great time. That's how it should be. Yeah. That's the way to do it. The movie opened at number four in the box office. All right. Let's see what the critics have to say. We have Owen Gleiberman from Entertainment Weekly. He gave the film a B-. Minus. He criticized the script. He said it borrowed heavily from movies like Alien and The Shining. Certainly does. Yeah. But he did praise Paul W. W. W. W. W. W.

[00:09:53] W. W. W. W. W. I'm still confused. I'm still confused what y'all are talking about. Is that not how you would describe him? It's great. True. No. PTA, one of my favorite filmmakers. But yeah, Paul W. W. W. W. W. W.

[00:10:30] W. W. W. W. W. W. W. W. W. W. W. W. Courage. Rolling in with a two-star rating for this movie out of four.

[00:10:59] I'm not even going to say what I normally say because we already fucking know. Like, okay. He found plenty to admire at first. He wrote that the movie opens with a lot of class. What the fuck does that mean? That's a very funny thing to say about Event Horizon. Yeah. The classiest film of 1997. At the beginning, sure. Yeah. Praising its spaceship, sound design, technology, and ominous atmosphere.

[00:11:23] But he ultimately felt the story didn't fulfill the promise of its setup, memorably writing that the screenplay creates plenty of foreboding but little payoff. I just heard a lot of words. What? Before we get into the cast and crew, let's hear a message from our pod pals. Hi, I'm Mike Smith. And I'm Mike Decricio.

[00:11:52] And we host a podcast called The Complete Works, a deep dive into the careers and filmographies of some of our favorite actors. Every season, we pick an actor and go through every single movie they've ever made, episode by episode. We discuss the choices that actor makes, the kinds of roles they portray over time, and the ever-evolving trends in the film industry across multiple eras. Sometimes we get sidetracked and go off on tangents. Uh, hey, sometimes the movies are incredible and sometimes they're not. We gotta find other things to talk about. That's right.

[00:12:18] Follow us at Complete Works Pod on Blue Sky and look up The Complete Works on Spotify, Apple, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we'll see you on the other side. Cast and crew, fun facts for this movie. We're kind of few and far between, which is why I tried to go and look up the sides of the ship. I'm not surprised. It's a cult classic. People like Event Horizon.

[00:12:43] Sometimes, well, I just mean like, it's, there's certain movies where there's like a ton of facts. And then sometimes, like this, I'm like, I'm not shocked that there's just not a lot. So, Paul W.S. Anderson has a small visual cameo during the opening sequence. A floating book features Anderson's photograph and name. Um, and that's really all I got for casting. Pretty neat, you know. Cool little Hitchcockian cameo. Love that. Yeah.

[00:13:13] Okay. Let's get into the movie. Mike and Mike are probably going to do a lot of the heavy lifting because Danielle and I watched it. Yeah. There was an attempt made. My eyeballs. It played in front of you. Yes. My eyeballs were on. That was your first mistake because you don't need eyes to see. Oh, shit. That's your first mistake right there. Yeah, Mike D. I mean, obviously this is a, this was movie you recommended last time. Maybe you should kick things off as like, what's your take on Event Horizon, I guess.

[00:13:43] Oh, my take on Event Horizon? Well, I think, I think so. Part of my joy with Event Horizon is it really, it really tickles my, we used to have movies. It's like, yeah. And that's the thing that we've discovered a lot through, you know, doing, doing the complete works and going back through some, you know, earlier movies and the before times. And like, just looking at the top five for the box office there, right? It's Air Force One. It's Spawn. It's Copland.

[00:14:12] I've never seen or heard conspiracy theory. So I don't know what that's about. But like, this, this kind of movie, Event Horizon was just like happening all the time. Yes. It's kind of schlock. It's kind of whatever. But in our just like current, everything is the volume. Everything is weightless nothingness. I'm seeing Lawrence Fishburne and Sam Neill fight in a real hallway they built. And I'm like, 10 out of 10. Perfect movie. That's all I need, baby. That's all I need.

[00:14:41] I need real actors in real buildings. And that's kind of sort of a lot of where the joy for this movie comes from. But then also, it's just like exciting to me, exciting, crazy sci-fi horror movie that it's insane that somebody had the idea and a studio made it to have a ship that goes to the Hellraiser dimension and comes back alive. And I'm like, that's fucking awesome. That's crazy. Lawrence Fishburne did this movie? That's nuts. Yeah. So yeah, that's sort of just the joy for me.

[00:15:08] And also I love, you know, space horror, horror movies, sci-fi horror, all that kind of stuff. So it touches a lot of the subgenres I like. And then it just is a sight to behold. They made that the blender hallway. Like that's cool as hell. Like whatever that's about, I don't know. But it looks rad. So it gets a lot of points in my book for me just on that merit. But I guess, you know, that's just my initial takes on it. I don't know if we do a plot summary yet. But that's some of my joy for Event Horizon. Yeah.

[00:15:36] I really like that there were things that look like eyes. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. Correct. Yeah. I mean, I think a big part of the movie for me too. It's a weird thing where, you know, when I first saw it back in the day, I feel like I was like I had liked it enough, but was still kind of dismissive about it. And over the years, I grew to like it more. Rewatching it again, I was like, if Paul W. Sanderson's movies were all like this, I would love, he would be one of my favorite filmmakers. It would be awesome. And I would just be like. He'd be one of my guys. He'd be one of my guys. Absolutely.

[00:16:05] And this is like the one time where he like really cooked. I think this movie is just hits that like perfect mixture of horror, but also schlock, but also it's campy, but also it's funny. But also you have, again, two. I mean, I think the entire cast is great, but like specifically Lawrence Fishburne and Sam Neill are bringing it in this movie. They're so much fun. And I think the first time I saw this movie was probably the first time I had really seen Sam Neill in anything besides Jurassic Park, you know, and Jurassic Park, huge movie for me as a kid.

[00:16:35] Sam Neill in that movie, fantastic. Obviously, Sam Neill, of course, recently passed away and was incredibly sad about that. But this is the movie that like introduced me to the idea of like, oh, Sam Neill is a dang ass freak. He's a weird dude. He can be insane in movies. And from here is kind of where I like got down the line of like, oh, in the mouth of madness and possession and like some really weird, like kind of horror stuff that Sam Neill's in. The Omen 3, he's like Damien. He's Damien in that movie, right? Yeah. So he's like college age Damien, I think. Yeah. And so, yeah, I love Sam Neill.

[00:17:04] And especially in this movie where, you know, I used to like imitate him in this movie all the time of him, like basically at the end of the movie, like where we're going. We won't need eyes to see. Did he have clothes on? He had clothes on in that scene. Yeah, I think so. In the end, by the end, did he have clothes on? Because there's a scene when Laurence Fishburne is on the floor and I just see bare legs. I'm like, wait a minute. Is he naked? I think he does end up naked at one point. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, 100%. I mean, he becomes like one with the ship, I think, right?

[00:17:33] Yeah. When he's like in demon form, he's definitely naked. Yeah. I mean, that's also the weird thing about kind of trying to describe the plot of Event Horizon is that, you know, they, I can tell you the setup, you know, they can tell you. They are on a ship and they are going to some kind of mission. They're not entirely sure what it is. Sam Neill's the only one who really knows. And then he explains it to them that the Event Horizon was a ship that became the like, you know, almost like the 9-11 of its day. Right. It's like the, this horrific, you know, disaster of like nobody.

[00:18:04] It's this thing that happened that like nobody really knows why and all that stuff. A horrible death count, but like the Event Horizon just suddenly disappeared and nobody knows where it went. But that's only the information that was made public. Sam Neill reveals that in fact it disappeared and it suddenly reappeared out of Neptune and they have to go find it. And they do. And with horrible consequences for everybody involved. Was he infected before they even went there? For sure. I think so. Yeah, absolutely.

[00:18:32] And he needed them to bring him to the mothership. Yeah, he built the ship. Yeah, I think he's infected. But I think maybe being on the ship like activated it more, I guess. It might have been more of like a subconscious infection. Is his wife on the ship? No, that's a flashback. Well, because the ship, as I understand it, like takes what you care about most and kind of uses it against you.

[00:19:00] Oh, because I was like, damn, his wife is up on the ship. Of course it's going back. Now I see. Right. You were thinking it was like an interstellar, like, you know, going back from Matt Damon sort of thing. I've never seen interstellar. Oh, okay. And it's outside of your time frame, so you'll never see it. Okay. Yeah. So we're the movie opens. And like you said, they have this mission. Event Horizon has shown up near Neptune.

[00:19:30] They need to go. And at this point, do they know like there's no crew left or do they think there's crew still on the ship? Lawrence Fishburne definitely thinks there's still crew on the ship. Like I'm not sure how much Sam Neill knows and all that stuff as far as like the actual status. That's the event horizon. But Lawrence Fishburne and his crew are led to believe that like they are going into rescue survivors. They're a rescue mission. Yeah. Okay. And along with Lawrence Fishburne, he's the captain.

[00:19:56] There's also Jolie Richards who plays Stark. Kathleen Quinlan who plays Peters. Richard T. Jones as Cooper. Jack Noseworthy as Justin. And Jason Isaacs as DJ. And then Sean Pertwee as Smith. Yeah. Jason Isaacs. Yeah. Jason Isaacs I like a lot in this movie. Cooper is great. Cooper is a big guy. I love Cooper. Yeah. His whole bit where he is like floating out in space and he has to like unlock his air to like zoom out like a jetpack and stuff.

[00:20:26] And you just hear his running commentary the entire time. Fuck. Fuck. Oh, God. He's so good. I did as he was prepping that. I was like, oh, he's doing the Mark Watney approach to traveling through space. Absolutely. Everything leads back to Event Horizon. The Martian took it from here. Yeah. I've never seen The Martian. Oh, it's so good. Also really good. You missed the two big Matt Damon sci-fi movies of the 2010s.

[00:20:56] You know what I'm realizing? I don't care. Yeah, I don't. Unless it's like Star Wars or even Star Trek. But even still, like. I will say. The Martian and even Project Hail Mary by the same author. Both fantastic movies. But they're not super spacey. Yeah. I mean, they're mostly. Martian is mostly on Mars. It's mostly on a planet.

[00:21:24] And then Project Hail Mary is mostly on a ship. Right. It's like they're in space, but it's mostly on a ship. It's about relationship. Well, Project Hail Mary is about relationships. Yeah. Just trying to survive. It's about loving the movie Rocky a lot. Yes. It's about really liking the movie Rocky. For sure. I mean, there's exceptions of like. I don't have like a hard rule that I hate space. But like, like, obviously I like. What's the one where they. They send the. Guardians of the Galaxy.

[00:21:54] Well, that too. The. The Oilers. Armageddon. Oh, yes. Yeah. I like. I like Armageddon. Sure. I love the classic, which should have been nominated for an Oscar. Xenon. 21st century girl. I was going to ask if it was going to be Xenon. Unfortunately, ineligible because it was a TV movie. I think. Technicalities. Yeah. I don't mind space movies as long as there's not time travel involved.

[00:22:22] Like if there is time travel or like bending space. I can't. Are you not a fan of Interstellar then? Just out of curiosity. I never watched it because I knew it was not my cup of tea. Like even. I do watch. A lot of the Star Trek shows. There is a lot of time travel in Star Trek. Yes. And most of it is like, you don't have to understand the time travel. It's like, okay, they just warp speed in there somewhere, you know, like.

[00:22:49] Like, but Discovery was really big on the like time traveling stuff. I don't like. I. Number one, if we're going to watch this, we have to watch it at like 6 p.m. where my brain still functions. Like, don't ask me to watch Discovery at 10 p.m. Like my brain has turned off. It's. It's Ted Lasso time. And even Strange New World. Strange New Worlds has just kind of jumped the shark at this point. But even some of those, I'm just like, okay, where are we? Like, did this happen?

[00:23:17] Like, I just don't like the time traveling stuff. But like. These movies where I don't have to focus on that or if it's not too sciencey. Because like, I just don't understand. And I'm like, you're saying big words. I have no clue what you're talking about. So. Well, luckily Event Horizon doesn't really have the big word. But no, no, no. But I mean, it kind of has time travel in it. Was that an issue for you? Yeah. As soon as he pulled out that like, we can bend space. Yeah. And through the paper, I was like.

[00:23:47] With the one guy being like, speak English, doc. Yes. And then like the, you get in with like the little poorly, like 13 ghosts house. That's what it was giving. It was like 13 ghosts and ghost ship. All. Yes. And cube. Like those are the three references that kept coming up when I was watching this. I saw someone, I think on Letterboxd, call it new metal horror. And I was like, that's really the vibe of what's going on here. It feels like.

[00:24:17] Yeah. This is absolutely the backdrop of the corner of the biscuit video. Yeah. For sure. Exactly. It's all about the nookie. And so like, and Sam Neal gets on the ship, the Lewis and Clark, that's going to go and help the event horizon. And he just is like, I'm a doctor. Doesn't he just like introduce himself as a doctor? And I'm like, okay. Yeah.

[00:24:47] Is he going to help the crew? Like at first I'm like. Ask him like, what the hell are you? What's the point? Get to the point. Yeah. We don't, we don't want the pleasantries. Tell us why the hell we've been brought here. Yes. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, he's very much the sort of like the Bill Paxton in aliens. Not Bill Paxton. The other guy in aliens. Paul Reiser. Like the Paul Reiser character in aliens. The company man. The company man. Who's like there along for the ride. You never seen aliens either? I've never seen aliens. No. That's really good. We're going to recognize this.

[00:25:16] And then, okay. So with the whole like the abyss breathing in water thing, is that because they're, they're traveling so far, they like put themselves into like hyperspace? Yeah. Yeah. They say, because when the, the like whatever thruster drive thing fires that you take so much G forces, if you weren't suspended in water, you, you would die. So, which like, yeah, sure. Or whatever. That sounds science enough for me to believe it. Yeah, absolutely. Go along with it. Yeah.

[00:25:44] It's just like suspended animation in another movie or that kind of thing. Yeah. I've never seen the abyss. Okay. Well, they breathe in water. They do breathe in water. The Abyss is also really good. High recommend. You know what other movie I just thought of? Spacey movie that I really like. Now I can't think of the title of it. But it's the one that has a horrible plot with Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt. All the passengers. Yes. I've never seen that either. I've actually also never seen passengers, but I remember the, I remember the trailer.

[00:26:14] Yeah. It's yeah. They're like the last two people on a spacecraft that. Ish. All the way around. Ish. Yeah. Something like that. Oh, yeah. Everybody's sleeping. Yeah. Right. Yeah. They wake up from hypersleep. Yeah. Yeah. They didn't wake up. Well, doesn't he wake up? He wakes up and then he's like, I'm bored. Isn't that like the reveal or something? Yes. You don't know that until later. Oh, spoiler. Spoilers for passengers. Well, I mean, you find out in the first act because you watch him wake her up. She doesn't find out till the end of the movie. Or like halfway through the movie. And Michael, she.

[00:26:43] I feel like it would be a better movie if you didn't know that until she knows. Right. I don't know that. I haven't seen it. So. Yeah. And Michael Sheehan is in it and he plays like a robot bartender or something. Yeah. Which is giving very. Like they think Michael Sheehan would be doing. Yeah. Yeah. Giving very much the shining kind of thing. Hell yeah. But I've never seen it. Important film touch point that a lot of movies reference. Just like Event Horizon. Yes. Much like Event. Much like The Shining. There's doors that open and blood spills out in Event Horizon, which is always a great time.

[00:27:13] So much blood. So many doors that are eyes. Yeah. Yep. I like the crucifix window. What is that? Yeah. One of my favorite. One of my favorite things is when I forget which character it is, but it's like going through the one of the rooms and like just there has like a flashlight or something. It's like, oh, I think I see a little bit of blood on the table. Something happened here. And as she walks past and there's a flash of light and behind her, you just see the entire walls just covered in blood. Yeah. Blood and guts. It's sick. It's like a hallway from Doom. Like it's so cool.

[00:27:44] So we get to the Event Horizon and they board it through the umbilicus. Yep. Yep. Normal word. What's your question? Yikes. And then they all like immediately split up and are exploring the ship that they know nothing about. I guess they're looking for the crew, but like, I feel like as a captain, he'd be like, okay, you state like, this is your partner. This is your, your exploring buddy.

[00:28:14] Sure. You know, like, but they immediately just all split. And then we get, we walk through the, the meat grinder hallway. I thought this was going to have way more of a storyline than it did because it looks like it's going to kill someone and it doesn't, which is such a letdown. That's what I was expecting Resident Evil type shit in this hallway. Yeah. I mean, not the hallway specifically, but like one of my favorite, I mean, I guess it's part

[00:28:44] of it. One of my favorite like parts of this movie or aspects of it is just how absolutely psychotic the, the like set design of the ship is. Yeah. And like, no one acknowledged, like, no one is like, why'd you, I guess actually the do say the hallway, this looks like a meat grinder, but like the, like everything is very obvious. Like this is from hell, but nobody like, is it or acknowledge it? It's very brutalist style spaceship. Yeah. It's sick. We used to have movies part.

[00:29:13] Like we used to have movies with sets that looked like they were made in hell. They used to build stuff in this country. Yeah. Absolutely. I was confused by like she was, what she was looking at was like a tablet. And I don't know if we had tablets yet. Right. No, we definitely didn't. But I mean, that's a common sci-fi thing. Like if you look at eighties, nineties movies, especially just like, there's a lot of, you know, touchscreen, visual screen type things.

[00:29:41] But so she's watching and I didn't, but the thing is like, I'm watching it and I didn't even clock to me that like, this is an older movie, but then she was watching to me. It was like this weird ass. I was like, what video is this? What, what's happening? Yeah. Like, well, she also had to fight with the computer to get the CD out. I'm like, that's one of my favorite parts. Bitch, by the time you get that out, it's so scratched up. We all know you're not watching anything on that DVD.

[00:30:08] It's going to be skipping like crazy, but it's the future now they can, they can figure that out. That's to solve that. No, it's one of my favorite things about like old or just sci-fi movies in general is like, they have to like project into the future, like what they think the technology is going to be, but also it's still a little 97. So it's still a CD. Cause they couldn't even conceive of things not being on CD at that point. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. This is the largest storage device we have currently.

[00:30:36] So it must still be in 2047. What do you mean? External hard drive. Yeah. What's a thumb drive. Yeah. We have bites and terror now. It's crazy. That's insane. And so like, and then what's, what's the little guy's name from idle hands? Justin. Yes. Baby bear. I didn't understand that at all. That was disturbing at the end.

[00:31:04] He goes into, what was that room with the spinny thing? The death room. No, I think it's the drive. Yeah. Where the brain of the operation was. And you do see this fluid like floating around everywhere. And I think they keep calling it like hydraulic fluid or something. And he puts his finger in it. I'm like, there's nothing, there's no way I'm doing it. I don't put my hands in liquids. I can't see through.

[00:31:33] Well, yeah, that's like when the like gear thing stops, it's like a liquid. That's not the same as the, the fluid floating around the room. But his initial reaction was, let me stick up to my elbow, my hand in this mystery goo. Right. Yeah. And also. Some folks are cavalier about that kind of stuff. You know, just like the guys in, in. And Prometheus. Yeah. Yeah. Just take their helmets off for a reason. I've never seen Prometheus.

[00:32:02] Less egregious than not having seen aliens. Yeah. Although. But I'm a Prometheus guy. I think we're, we're both Prometheus defenders. There's a great, great horror sequence right in the middle. It's awesome. But yeah. And so does he get sucked? Does he disappear when he put? Yeah. It sucks. So it pulls, it pulls him in. But he's tethered though. And they're like, they're like, oh, what's this? First of all, Lawrence Fishburne sees a floating hand. Yeah.

[00:32:30] And they see like really scary things. And then they see this like fluid floating. And they're like, what is it? It's red. So automatically I'm like blood. Hello. Hello. Hello. What's happening? Are you all not getting it? Why are we here? But that's what I love about this movie too, is that Lawrence Fishburne is pretty level headed about that stuff. And as soon as this stuff starts going down, he's like, let's wrap it up. We're out of here. Go repair the Lewis and Clark, please.

[00:33:00] We need to GTFO. Yeah. We got to go. Get the team back together. Get everything fixed. And let's get the fuck out of here. I was watching this with some friends and we were having that. My one friend was like, as everyone's having their visions and their moments. And I think it's when the doctor lady sees her son on the operating table and he's like all fucked up and stuff. And my friend is like, are they just not going to talk to each other and tell each other? They're all having these visions. Yeah. Next scene, it's a team meeting where they're like, well, so I've been having visions.

[00:33:29] So it's like they do both things, which is pretty funny where they go through the thing of like, I can't say anything because they'll think I'm crazy. But then they do all talk about it. Lawrence Fishburne does be like, well, we're leaving. They have both things going on, which is very funny. I was confused because I didn't know what was happening. I didn't know that these were visions. I didn't know what was going on. I'm like, are they dead? Are they alive? Who is that? Her son is here. Who the fuck is Kathy?

[00:33:58] Yeah. It's the shit fucking with them. It's, you know, it's creating response. Yeah. I didn't, I didn't, I didn't know. Yeah. I did not know that was happening. But then when I was, the only time I was actually locked in and so disgusted and scared was when I guess they took the CD. I don't know what the fuck they were looking at. Yeah. But they showed finally the footage of what the hell happened to the people on the other ship. The blood orgy. Yeah. And it looked like a fucking fist. Yeah.

[00:34:28] And the hand went down someone's throat. And like, I will never be able to get these things out of my head. I turned to Ken. I was like, so were they eating each other? Right. Or ripping their innards out of their mouths? And he was just like, yes. Yeah. Why not both? 100%. This is how we know your guys' movie diets are different than ours. Because I watched that scene. I'm like, hell yeah, baby. That rocks.

[00:34:56] I mean, it did not disturb me at all. I was just, I need clarification as to what I was saying. So here's my thing about like, just like destruction and how I feel about it. When it's just mindless nonsense. And especially when people get into situations that they shouldn't have in the first place. I'm just annoyed. I don't enjoy the deaths. When really horrible people or a woman, and I'm supporting her wrongs and rights, gets revenge and is cracking bones.

[00:35:26] I love every second of it. Good for her. Sure. Absolutely. What did we discover second only to when the bones crack that you really love to answer on? What were we watching? I don't remember. Never. Is there a specific movie you were talking about as far as the bones cracking go? I think it was, was it Fear? Just YouTube. And Fear. Oh. I'll have to go back and look.

[00:35:56] Oh, I might have. Yeah. I'll have to go back and look and see if I can find what you're like. Oh. Yeah. So one of the things I really like about Korean cinema and TV shows is like they do revenge like no other. Oh, hell yeah, baby.

[00:36:39] They also do fighting. And when I tell you he beats these people to the inch of their lives. And he, he, when he gets to clicking that pen, that means he about to fuck your shit up and stab you with a pen. And I'm like, there's no way this average person is like beating the rock and people's shit. Yeah. I like that. That's my new ASMR. Yeah. Like him getting that clicking of that pen.

[00:37:07] Oh, I, I, I remember what it was. It was the bone collector where he bit the guy in the neck and like. Love it. I love, I love when people know where an artery is because why are we doing this back and forth when I can just, eh, know where the arteries are. And then that blood is a gushing. Oh, yes. Oh, yes. And, and again, it's using a weapon that maybe you, your mouth is the strongest part of your body.

[00:37:36] So yes, get to biting, baby. Get to bite. Fair enough. Here first. Yeah. But I, when I saw this in a theater, it was part of Beyond Fest, I think was the festival. Oh yeah. You saw it with like Paul W. Sanders in attendance, right? Well, that's what I was going to say. Yeah. He had a Q and A after the film and somebody asked him because the, the blood orgy stuff, which you see for like 30 seconds total in the movie is like the famously lost footage of this movie.

[00:38:03] Where I forget how much they felt like they was like 20 minutes or something insane. Like amount of that was supposed to be in the movie. 30 minutes. So the original cut was approximately 130 minutes long. They had to remove 30 minutes of that footage. Yes. Yes, that was it. Yeah. And so somebody asked him like, hey, like what's the story? Because I think there was like the rumors that it may have been found, whatever. And I think it was kind of just like, no, like, yeah, it seems like it's just lost to the sands of time. Bummer.

[00:38:33] But, but he talked about filming it where it was listed like in the schedule or whatever as like second unit. So like not Paul, Paul W.S. Anderson. It's like the second unit director and it was just going to be other things. And so the studio just didn't give a shit because it's like whatever. Like it wasn't like blood orgy second unit. It was just like second unit footage, whatever. But then he just showed up and directed it himself. So he just got to direct all that and without the studio knowing about it because it wasn't listed as like his work.

[00:39:01] It was just supposed to be the other person, which is how they got to do all the weird like shoving fists down mouths and all that crazy stuff. So we only got to see like 30 seconds of it, but there's like a lot of footage that's not there. Allegedly. I think it does better just showing us that footage. Truly. I think it like fucks with your head more than if we had like this long drawn out. Yeah. It's kind of what he said too. He's sort of like, well, yeah, no, it's, it's one of those things where like director's cuts are often.

[00:39:28] Unless you're like Ridley Scott or whatever, who's just director's cuts, everything where it's, but it's like, usually it's like, oh, that's interesting that you put that scene in there. I think there's pretty rarely like a, oh my God, this is the definitive whatever. Unless the movie was like destroyed by the studio, like Blade Runner or something. Right. So it makes sense that like, yeah, I don't think we need 20 minutes of people being dragged over barbed wire or whatever the hell is going on, you know. But if they uncover the footage, I would be interested in seeing it. I'd watch it. I would watch it. Yeah.

[00:39:56] We also find out around this time that we're actually designed the ship and he, he designed the, the core thing. And so, but he's like very elusive from this point on, like, he's not really answering questions. Yeah. And he's just getting more and more creepy by the minute. Yeah.

[00:40:21] That's when I, that's the point where I think it's obvious, like, that's what confirms for me the like, oh, he's always been like, he knows that this is what happened to the ship. And, you know, he just had to get back there. Yeah. Yeah. Cause then he just pretty quickly turns into where we're going. We don't need eyes to see, you know. Yes. And Sam Neill. So good. He's just unbelievable. Love him. This movie just plays a creepy dude. So well. Do we think, because we do see Sam Neill's flashbacks of his wife and how she committed suicide.

[00:40:51] So does he think like getting back to the horizon? She's in the bathtub with the razor. Yeah. I get more obvious than that. Oh gosh, Danielle. I didn't connect a lot of dots in this movie, but that one was A to B. Yeah. I connected two points. Might have left the room.

[00:41:17] At some point I left the movie to go outside to help Nana plant a tree. And I came back inside. It was very much like the 13 ghosts, like bathtub scene. Like it was. Yeah. Yeah. But like, does he think like getting back to the event horizon, like he would somehow be reunited with his wife? Is that what we're going for? I think that's part of it. But I think, I think that's part of it.

[00:41:45] But I think also he's just like compelled to return to the ship because of like the demonic forces that are already in his system a little bit too. Like it's, it's to complete his transformation sort of. Again, sort of on a subconscious level, but I think that's, that's there. Mike D, I don't know what you, how you interpret it. Yeah. Well, I didn't even think about maybe she was on the event horizon. I don't think I ever really thought about that, that maybe she's one of the missing crew and that's why he's here kind of thing. And I think Danielle sort of referenced that or questioned that before. So like, that's possible.

[00:42:12] But otherwise I think it's, yeah, it's just sort of driving him insane because then he'll become the, you know, avatar of the ship or whatever the hell. So, and we also get a scene where DJ knows Latin. And so he can. Which is very funny to think about. Like, I guess, I guess. What's his name? Sam Deal is the only doctor, which is insane. But I was like, and I guess Jason Isaacs is like a medical doctor. But it's like, how do all these like astronaut guys, like not know Latin? Like, cause it's like liberate me. It's like, that's very obvious to liberate me.

[00:42:42] Right, right. Yeah. And like, I don't know any Latin and I could decipher what that probably means. Right. At least the first version of it. Yeah. I thought Jason Isaacs looked really fine in this movie. That blue vest really pulled it all together. He's great. I was excited to see Sean Pertwee in this movie also, who was Alfred on Gotham a few years back. And yeah, fun to see him in here. He's great. Yeah. He's the, the like pilot guy, right? That's Sean, that's the Pertwee? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:43:12] Yeah. He's awesome. I was very sad to learn this week that Lawrence Fishburne went unprovoked on a podcast and decided to share his struggles and that he was beaten on his first wife and his twenties. And at some point he says, I was in my twenties as if that normalized it. I was just a kid. I was 25. Right.

[00:43:38] So now I'm sure there's probably more to the clips, but that was all I needed to see. Cause I'm like, why are these celebrities coming out and just, just telling on themselves at this point? Like I know too much. I want to still just enjoy your, your content, but now I have to fucking hate you on, on the premise that you, so you're telling me when you were playing Ike Turner, you weren't playing Ike Turner.

[00:44:08] Oh no. Yeah. There's a scene where there's one of the actresses where they said like, just slap her for real. And he slaps the, like she said, she was in so much pain and now I'm like, Oh, you be slapping bitches in real life. You can't have nice things. No. That's unfortunate. And that sucks because I, I love Lawrence Fishburne so much, but now I'm like side eye. Yeah.

[00:44:37] What the fuck man. So what happens that we start, everyone starts seeing the visions and then they talk about it and Lawrence Fishburne's like, Hey, we need to get off this ship. But at the same time, their ship is damaged somehow. Yes. So they have to fix it. And so Cooper, I think is on the outside trying to fix the ship. Right. Mike D. Yeah. Yeah. They refer to him. He's the one who's the expert on event horizon. I saw it with Paul W. We're best friends. For Ann Miller.

[00:45:06] At first outside repairing the ship, but then baby bear reappears. And then he's like, it's like the, whatever the fuck it is, is like toying with him and like sometimes letting him be lucid and then other times just tormenting him with visions. And so he finally like goes into the airlock chamber to, to go outside.

[00:45:33] And he, they're like, no, open, open this up. And like Julie Richardson is trying to override it and stuff, but he ends up opening the outer door. And so like, essentially his body is just caving in on itself. And there's, there's blood from everywhere. But at the same time, like Miller's trying to get back to him to like, and he's like, Hey,

[00:46:02] like when the lock opens, because right before the, the door opens, the, the demon lets him become lucid and he starts panicking. He's like, I don't want to die. And so Lawrence Fishburne is like all the air out of your lungs. And he like jumps and like pushes him back in. But like, obviously it's too late. Like your body has crushed under the event or actually, no, it's not crushing.

[00:46:30] It's expanding because there's nothing holding you together. I got this lesson from Ken when we were watching the movie. There's no pressure. There's no pressure. So like everything inside your body is just trying to get out. Yeah. Which is why space is such a good setting for horror movies that I feel like is underutilized a little bit. I mean, there's the space horror subgenre of stuff, which, you know, obviously alien. That's the big one. Event horizon is kind of like the second big one. And then sunshine are like the three, like kind of big space horror movies.

[00:46:59] But I feel like it's and cube. Sure. And there's definitely other ones that have come out and stuff like that, but I feel like it's an underutilized subgenre. I feel like there's so much more you can do in space. Yeah. No one can hear you scream. It's the whole thing. Make that a tagline of a movie. Yeah. I'm trying to remember the order of things because at some point, well, this is also one of my favorite, like psychotic things about the event horizon ship is like, oh, this massive hallway is lined with bombs. Yeah.

[00:47:26] So that in the event of an emergency, the, you know, so they say the crew could get into the, the, the, the forward part of the ship where they're like crew quarters are and separate the two, like the, the gravity drive and use the front of the ship as like a lifeboat to get rescued. And so that never happens. And so there's all these like active explosives ready to go in this hallway, which is what we're, as he's starting to go insane, rips out and plants on the Lewis and Clark and damages the ship. And that's why they have to. Yeah.

[00:47:55] Eventually all end up only on the event horizon. And okay. So what, so were the bombs, the long skinny pool noodle things that she was pulling out or was that something else? That's an oxygen scrubber. You know, to get old or a CO2 scrubber, whatever it is to like, yeah. Purify the oxygen. Yeah. Because that was the other thing. They only had enough oxygen for like X number of hours.

[00:48:25] Yeah. Yep. There was a lot going on. Space stuff. Space stuff. Yeah. I mean, honestly, like as far as event horizon goes, like I, it's not a movie I come to for the plot necessarily. It's I come for the vibes. It's a good time, you know? And I feel like there are, there are a lot of things about event horizon that are like tricky to understand or don't make sense in a weird way, but ultimately it's like these people are going crazy on a spaceship and that's. They go to hell. Yeah. They go to hell. And that's sort of what you need to know, which, you know, from there you kind of extrapolate.

[00:48:55] And, and around this time, DJ realizes his Latin translation is wrong and it's not save me. It's save yourself from hell. And so he's like, we need to get the fuck off this ship. And so does Cooper, does Cooper finish? He finishes what he needed to do, but he was like severed from his tether. And so he's just free floating in space. He goes flying off in space. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:49:25] That's when, so he's outside repairing the Lewis and Clark and that's when we're plants the bomb and blows it up. And so he's on the outside of the ship when it explodes and he just gets launched out, you know, gravity style out into, away from the ship. Yeah. I've never seen gravity. Check it out. It's really good. I recommend. So now they know that the crew like essentially like tore each other to pieces and perhaps ate each other.

[00:49:53] And so now we need to get off of the ship. And to be honest, I don't remember how that happens. I just, from what I, this is, these are the things I recall. Okay. Daddy Lucius is getting cut. Yep. Root to, root to, root to. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. And, and I was like, no. He gets all like flayed open and stuff. Nuts.

[00:50:19] Dr. Lady watched one too many videos of her poor baby in the wheelchair. And then she crashed and burned and died off of, off of this thing. I forgot about that. That's crazy. Oh boy is, I guess he got pushed into the place where he wasn't supposed to be and he ain't got no suit on. So then Lawrence Fishburne has to like zoom in to try to get him. But that bitch is already coming apart already.

[00:50:47] I don't know if he was able to be, he wasn't able to be saved. The, the pilot guy who I really liked, he, he realizes one of the bombs is not where it's supposed to be. And he's trying to save the day. Lawrence Fishburne is like, get your ass out, get your ass out. He's still trying to. And then this, this thing comes over, like he, the realization comes over his face where he's like, I'm not going to make it. And then it blows up. Jolie Richardson, I don't know where the hell she was for a while, but she comes back up.

[00:51:17] And so at some point everybody else is dead. They dead and gone. But what is it? Richard. What's his name in real life? Richard T Jones. Cooper. Yeah. Cooper. Cooper. We think is gone. Cause he's, he's skeeted out of the ship and he's flown in space. And then all there's left is Miller and, and Stark.

[00:51:45] And now they're realizing, okay, crazy. We're is, is lost his fucking mind. He has taken his eyes out. He has killed everybody else. So they're like, okay, we just have to have the rest of the ship, like as a lifeboat or whatever, and, and cut off everything else. And it gets down to Miller and we're having like a fight to the end. We're is now naked. Yep. Don't know why.

[00:52:15] Well, before he's naked, when he had cut up daddy, Lucius, DJ, they, I, maybe it's not the same time, but they start fighting and now he's got an arrow and shit. And I'm just like, what was happening? And so he's, he's trying to like shoot up Miller, but then when they're about to, in the midst of the fighting, here comes Cooper out of nowhere outside. Cause he's made it well back because he's pumped, pumped, pumped, pumped, pumped, pumped his way back to the ship.

[00:52:44] And he almost gets hit by the arrow, but somehow he makes it. And you know, now Cooper, Miller and Stark have to figure out how to like get themselves saved. Unfortunately, Miller takes one for the team and fights with naked ass wear and has some bomb or something, some controller. He pumps, presses it and everybody dead.

[00:53:10] But we don't really know if they really saved or not because when there's like coming out of the pods, Stark has like a nightmare that she's still in this thing when they, when they saved her, the guy who pulls his helmet back, it's weird. And then, then it's like, haha, just kidding. You're alive. But are you? So the viewers are left with like, are they alive or not?

[00:53:37] And also Cooper, when Stark is in her skivvies and he's like hugging her, his hand is over her boobs. I'm like, what's happening? Yeah. It's very weird. Yeah. So that's, that's all I remember. And that's all I think we need to talk about. Yeah. That's pretty much. You basically got it. I mean, that's so you did watch this movie. That is event horizon. Yeah.

[00:54:04] I mean, I, I really love those last like 20, 30 minutes just because of how insane they are and how just like kind of it escalates that tension and everything like that. And of course, Sam Neill's performance, I'm such a big fan of, but I like that like final trio of Miller, Stark and Cooper. And again, Cooper's so much fun when he's just bursting back onto the ship. I like their final plan of, you know, the lifeboat kind of like acting as a lifeboat, having to explode that one hallway to get out of there, all that stuff. It's a lot of fun. And then, yeah, you do have that final moment at the end. That's like, did this, are they safe?

[00:54:34] Are they not? Yeah. The door's slowly closing behind the rescue team. It's like, oh baby. Even if they are safe, like their minds might be like fucked up forever as a result of what happened on the event horizon. Yeah. Because you just never know. And like there, there's an episode of Buffy where so many people and Buffy have the same thing where we find out that Buffy's in a, a sand asylum. Yeah. I remember that one. Yeah. But then you realize it was like some sort of demon playing with their brains, but like

[00:55:01] there's always this thought that that could really be her reality. Like this whole show could not even be real that like she really is sitting somewhere in an insane asylum. And yeah. It's all in a snow globe and a child's bedroom. Or that's St. Elsewhere, the TV show. Yeah. And then also in Inception, we don't know. Right. Yeah. A hundred percent. Yeah. So.

[00:55:26] One of my favorite visual things for that last climax section is, you know, Lawrence Fishburne's characters, like trauma past thing that he like left a crew member behind to burn to death in a fire in a ship in his past. And that's the thing the ship is, the event horizon is using to like drive him crazy. So like for a lot of it, he's just like fist fighting a guy on fire. And like, that's kind of cool as hell. All right.

And don't forget to follow us at NoMoreLateFees on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, YouTube, and Threads. And we'll start with you, Mike S. What was your, what was your rating? Today rating. You're right. My today rating. So my original Y2K rating, I would have said two-day rental. And I was going to bump it up to five-day rental.

[00:56:50] However, what's the top rating again? It's like a... Would buy. Would buy it. Would buy. I genuinely, because I watch this on Tubi as well, I don't own Event Horizon on Blu-ray. And I had the thought in my head while watching it, I should own Event Horizon on Blu-ray. So I guess I'm going to say would buy is where I'm at. Okay. Mike D? Yeah. So same thing. My Y2K rating was two-day rental. But yeah, in the absolute dearth of creative movies we have now, buy Event Horizon.

[00:57:20] Own this. Support movies from 20 years ago. 30 years ago. Support movies with guys on fire and barbed wire on their faces. That's really what we're saying. Well, I'm going to use a quote from my mom as we finish this movie. She turned to my husband and said, I'm sorry, Ken. This is just not enjoyable. So it will be a same-day rental for me.

[00:57:49] And while we... Yeah, one day we're going to be on an episode where we all like the movie. It's going to happen. We all liked Spider-Man. What do you mean? Yeah. For sure. For sure. It's not my right election of that. Both Spider-Man movies, we all liked it. Let me... I'll corroborate that statement right now. Okay. Well... Get us on Galaxy Quest. That's got to be... That's got to be a crowd-lacer. People will love that one. Yeah.

[00:58:17] For me, it's the same day as well. I don't even know what happens. So... More for me advice. I hope I never have to watch it again. Yeah. All right. Well, if you have anything to add to the conversation, hit us up at our Quick Drop. You can text or call and leave a voicemail at our phone number, 909-601-6653.

[00:58:44] You can tweet us at Twitter, have us at the threads, butterfly in the sky at Blue Sky, and you can be featured on a future episode. And we have a review. Let me read it. While you're doing that, that scenario that you talked about where it's like, it's all a dream, that is referred to as a Jacob's Ladder scenario. Which makes sense. Yeah.

[00:59:13] Like the movie, Jacob's Ladder. That's where it comes from. Okay. Well, we have a review, a five-star review from Creaky Genie titled, Nostalgic Fun. Had an absolute blast guesting on the show. These ladies are knowledgeable, funny, and make every episode feel like a slumber party. Oh, this is from Janine. Oh, yay! Thank you, Janine.

[00:59:42] That's so sweet. Yeah, because some bum gave us a one-star review for Miss Conveniality, and this is what they wrote. That episode was way too long for a chick flick. You might be listening to the wrong podcast. I don't know. You don't have to do homework with your podcast. If you don't like it, just stop listening to it. Oh, man. Oh, my goodness. That's what I missed.

[01:00:11] Mike Dean made me watch Miss Conveniality podcast once. It's pretty good. It's fun. It's a really good movie. Yeah, that's when she laughs. It's fun. And we had two other guests today, and so usually when there's four of us, it's much longer. Actually, I'm not trying to even defend this. This person is a loco. Get off our podcast. They should go to the Event Horizon. Yes. They don't need ears to listen to the podcast.

[01:00:39] Join us next week as I am so afraid that we're going to have to do this movie, and we're doing Blair Witch Project, so get the tissues ready. Have you seen Project before? Is this a first time watch? I can't say. Okay. Okay. Fair enough. All right. Yeah. Fair enough. We will be doing that movie. We will, with my brother Johnny, who has become one of our horror episode buddies. Nice. Perfect. It'll be fun.

[01:01:08] Nice. And thank you, Mike and Mike, for joining us. Thank you for having us. Yes. Thank you guys so much. We will find some common ground someday. One day. Jackie, did you see if we liked Spider-Man? I gave it a two-day rental. Yeah, yeah. I liked it. You did like it. Yeah. So you won some of us. Fair enough. Yeah, we'll take it. And as always, be kind and rewind.
