Today, we're revisiting Charlie's Angels full throttle to find out if this early 2000s action comedy still kicks ass as much as we remember. Welcome to the No More Late Fees podcast. I'm Jackie. And I'm Danielle, and we're just two best friends and ex-blockbuster employees rewatching some of the best and worst movies from the late 90s and early 2000s. This week, we're covering the show of the show.

[00:01:32] That's a fun time. All right. As if people don't know, but let's get into what's Charlie's Angels full throttle about. So, a witness in the federal witness protection program is murder. The Angels are tasked with recovering two missing titanium rings containing the identities of every protected witness in the country. Along the way, they face a former angel turned mercenary while uncovering a conspiracy that puts countless lives at risk.

[00:02:00] The movie stars Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, Demi Moore, Bernie Mac, R.I.P., Justin Thurow, Chris Van Glover, Matt LeBlanc, John Cleese, Robert Patrick, Shia LaBeouf, and Bruce Willis. And the movie was directed by McG. Greenplay was written by John August, Cormac Wiberly, and Marianne Wiberly. You can currently watch it on Prime if you rent it. And I think that's it.

[00:02:30] I don't know. It might be also... I know it was on you. So... Yeah. Jackie owns it. You can borrow from Jackie, everybody. I not only watched the digital version on my iPad, I went back and watched the DVD with commentary. Ooh. Since we had extra time. Well, before we get started, let's get into our ratings rewind. So you know the drill.

[00:02:57] Before we get into the movie, we'll reveal the rating our Y2K versions of ourselves we give. Then at the end, we'll see if our current selves agree with our initial rating. Our scale consists of would buy it, would buy it again. The best would play and repeat. Five-day rental. Would watch again. Two-day rental. It's okay, but nothing to write home about. Same-day rental. It's just like one of those masks. Rip it off and throw it away. Same-day.

[00:03:27] Trash. All right, Janine, we'll start with you. I would say buy it and would buy it again. Because there was a bit of a bidding war over my very copy that I have. I won it in my divorce. Me and my high school boyfriend, we decided to start buying movies together. Because of course, we were going to be together forever. And obviously, that didn't happen.

[00:03:55] So when it came time to split up all of the movies, it came down to Charlie's Angels Full Throttle and a pretty nice copy of Pearl Harbor. We just covered that one. That's crazy. Yes, and he really wanted that. But he also really wanted Full Throttle, which surprised me. So I kind of had to make him think I wanted Pearl Harbor more than I did. So that he could kind of like, so I'm like, oh, it's okay.

[00:04:24] You can have it. And so then he let me have Full Throttle. I love the mind games. Yes. So smart. So wise. I had to trick him a little bit, but I got the movie. So yes, would buy it and buy it again. And, you know, kind of play some mind games to keep it. How about you guys? Same. I owned Full Throttle.

[00:04:47] And I, after the mass purging of all of my DVDs, I've slowly started collecting them again. And so this is one I have a physical copy of. It's a would buy for me. As we talked about in the, when we did Charlie's Angels, the first one, I do not own that one, but I do own Full Throttle. Yes, me too. Yeah. So we know what time we're on right now.

[00:05:16] All right, let's get into Box Office. This movie came out June 27, 2003. And I know I saw this for my birthday. The budget was $120 million. It made worldwide $259 million. Would have thought it made more, but yeah, did really well. It was number one at the box office. And Hulk came out at number two. Finding Nemo at number three. 28 Days Later at number four.

[00:05:45] And Too Fast, Too Furious at number five. That's a pretty banger weekend at Box Office. Yeah, it really is. It's a pretty banger. And let's see what Roger Ebert has to say. Lil Raj. He gave this movie 2.5 stars out of four. He felt the sequel was essentially doing the same thing as its predecessor, Lies.

[00:06:12] But this time he found himself more receptive to the actress's enthusiasm and this movie's deliberately excessive style. He still criticized its humor and acknowledged how ridiculous the entire production was. Now, Amy Dawes at Variety called the sequel bigger, sleeker, and better than the first. She viewed Full Throttle as an energetic escalation of everything audiences responded to in the 2000 film.

[00:06:39] Rather than criticizing its exaggerated approach, the review embraced it as part of the attraction. So, it was a mixed bag. I won't get into all the other ones because I think that's a good solid viewpoint of where we were. So, before we get into cast and crew, let's hear a message from our pop house. Hi there, I'm Ashley. And I'm Anne.

[00:07:06] We have been Drew Barrymore historians, and more importantly friends, for over 25 years. So, we're so excited to nerd out about our girl Drew and find out... How do you, Drew?

[00:07:58] So, cast and crew. The rogue angel Madison Lee was written specifically for Demi Moore. The cast and crew were famously enamored with her on set, often referring to her as an ageless goddess. And prior to this, Moore had stepped away from leading Hollywood roles for several years before appearing in the film. Yeah, she was like a great addition to this movie. Oh, it was fantastic. And loved her playing a villain, for sure.

[00:08:27] With this being a big deal, too. Yeah. Yeah, it was. Bernie Mac replaced Bill Murray as Bosley, obviously, after the fights on set from the last movie. Bill Murray did not want to reprise his role. He refused to work with the director, McG, again. And like I said, he had problems with Lucy Liu on the first film, but publicly insisted that Liu was not the reason for his departure.

[00:08:55] He was replaced with Bernie Mac for this installment. And as Irish brothers, or I don't know, something going on there. And Bill Murray's character was adopted. Got it. That's right. Yeah. Yeah. And eagle-eyed viewers may recognize Chris Pontius from Jackass and Wild Boys fame as one of the Irish henchmen in the Pussycat Dolls dance scene. I remember that.

[00:09:24] And also, Bruce Willis made a cameo in this film as well, which was really sweet. Like, the divorce between Bruce Willis and Demi Moore has always been, like, just the way that they've engaged with each other over the years has been nice to see. Well, yeah.

[00:09:42] And adding on to that, in kind of a thanks for making the cameo, he asked Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu to participate in a public service announcement supporting adoption. And they happily obliged. Oh, nice. I didn't know he had such strong feelings about adoption. That's very nice. Yeah. Yeah. So, some other cameos. Pink appears as the motocross track owner.

[00:10:12] And Blinker, you miss it. Her then-boyfriend, now-husband, Carrie Hart is seen. Carrie Hart, yeah. Walking up to her, handing his buy-in. Carrie Fisher as Mother Superior. Yes. In the convent scene. Eve and the Olsen twins as potential angels. And then Bella Caroli as Alex's gymnastics coach. Yes. Eve also was, like, popped in that little montage. Yeah.

[00:10:41] I just think it was, like, those scenes and, like, when you see the packages about the angels, I always love trying to slow it down to see, because there's so much stuff in that part that I feel like you miss. And when I was listening to the commentary, so I listened to the screenwriter's commentary.

[00:11:01] So, they were talking about, like, even though this one had a bigger budget, it really didn't, because the paychecks for, like, the talent and everything increased from the first one. And so, a lot of what they wanted to do in those opening packets, they couldn't, because it was, like, full day shoots and elaborate sets for just, like, 20 seconds. Of film. So, a lot of stuff didn't get shot that they had originally written into the script.

[00:11:33] There was even a scene from the first film in that package when they're dressed like men. It's a corporation. Like, that was a scene that they just threw in there, probably, to kind of fill it out as well. Yeah. Yeah. There's so much from this movie that sometimes I'm like, oh, wait, was it this movie? No, it's all the second movie, Danielle. Yeah. It's all the second movie. There's literally nothing you're reminiscing about from the first movie at all.

[00:11:55] The other interesting thing that I found out from the commentary was originally this, the sequel was Charlie's Angel's Halo is what it shot under. The title it shot under. But Mick G wanted something like The Matrix Reloaded. Like, he wanted something more, like, actionable to capture audiences. So, where did he go?

[00:12:22] A group of teenagers, 13-year-old boys, and, like, pitched a bunch of, like, subtitles to them. And Full Throttle was, like, a last-minute addition, and that's what scored the highest. And so that's why it's called Charlie's Angels Full Throttle. I like Halo better. Yeah. It really goes well with Angels. Yeah. I'm just, it's very on the mark.

[00:12:46] And in the original script, they were supposed to end up in Las Vegas rather than L.A. Mm-hmm. And then, like, all of the different mob bosses kind of converge in a casino. I want to say it was called Angel or something. Like, it was called something adjacent as well. Related. Okay. Yeah. So, I found that to be interesting.

[00:13:09] And even, like, the clues that they gave, they said they had to quickly go and adjust those when they moved it from Las Vegas to L.A. And so, like, the Astaire clue and stuff like that was kind of written on the fly. Okay. All right, let's get into it. Yeah. So, the movie opens up. We're in Mongolia because why not? Right.

[00:13:36] Dylan, played by Drew Barrymore, is having a drinking contest with all the men. And essentially, we're just trying to rescue, I think, like, with the FBI. Is that the Terminator man? It's the Wicks. Yeah, Robert Patrick. Yeah. Guy. Like, I think he's in over the, I think he's a U.S. marshal. Okay. Because they're always over the witness protection list. Got it.

[00:14:03] So, they're trying to find out where the ring, I think it's two rings. Is it one ring? Yes, Bruce Willis has one and Robert Patrick has the other. Yeah. Yeah. In this whole kidnapping, his ring is taken, I believe. Yes. So, they rescue him. But, yeah, like you said, the ring has now been stolen. We don't know by who. But lots of, there's bull riding in Mongolia, apparently. Yeah.

[00:14:32] It's so crazy what is going on. And, first of all, they should have been suspicious because, like, why are these white ladies here? Yeah. Right. Well, like, why Cameron Diaz? I don't know. She busted. In her, like, Heidi Light Mongolian outfit. And she's, like, speaking in, like, a German accent. Like, I'm just the most little floyline kind of thing.

[00:15:02] And so, they're just like, sir. I do love in this scene, there's, like, music stops and then they just scream really loudly, like, at the Met. I was like, I love the little touches. And it's things like that, like, keep you in the movie and you're like, okay, yeah, this is just fun. It's not. Yes. It tows that line of, like, cheesy or, like, oh, do I really have to suspend disbelief with, like, moments like that. Yes. Which I love.

[00:15:32] This movie for me, I like to describe. Yes. I like to describe it as a combination of, like, Josie and the Pussycats and Mission Impossible 2. Yes. Yeah. Which, why does everyone hate Mission Impossible 2 so that much? Like, if you watch it back, it has some of the best, like, hand-to-hand combat and action in the franchise. Which is what I love about this movie is getting to see them really do a lot of the fighting and stuff like that.

[00:15:58] So, like, way, way cooler action and, like, hand-to-hand you're seeing them do all of these crazy gritty fights. I mean, obviously a lot of it is obscene. But, like, so are most action films. Like, you don't watch them for reality, you know? Yeah. Like, for someone to, like, sit there and say, like, Charlie's Angels is so unbelievable, but, like, be first in line for every Mission Impossible movie. You're like, but, like, different fonts.

[00:16:28] Like, come on. Right? Yes. Yes. I will say, like, the girls did a lot of their stunts and they did a great job. But, like, I do have to give Tom Cruise his props for the amount of work that man has put into it. The stunts are insane. Insane. Yeah. Yeah. I went to a museum in New York. They had, like, all of the different movies.

[00:16:54] And, like, you see him talking about the stunts and all the different, like, you don't realize how many he's done and how dangerous, like, they were. And I'm like, that man is nuts. To his very last movie. I don't know how old is he. Like, 60 now? 60 something. Yeah. Yeah. Give me a break. Give me a break. All right. So, now they're in the thick of it. Yeah. So, they get the U.S. Marshal man out, but his ring's gone.

[00:17:24] They return him safely. And then, I believe it cuts to... Oh, and we find out that the rings, they're not useful apart, but someone else has another ring. And when you put them together, it decodes the list of witness protection. Yeah. Yeah. I thought they find... Don't they find out that Bruce Willis' character gets kidnapped or killed? Did I make that up? Yes. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:17:54] So, I think that scene kind of a little bit after we... I think we get, like, you know, Cameron Diaz and, like, them moving in together and all of that stuff before they get called into the office. And then that's when they get the report of him getting killed. Right. Yes. Yeah. And then the marshal, he's also on the screen, like, talking about, you know, thank you for saving me and all this whole kind of thing. Yeah. Yeah. I will say that this scene, the scene before they, like, officially, they're trying to rescue him.

[00:18:24] There is a plane, a helicopter that has yet to go anywhere. And then, like, this really, you do have to suspend so much, believe, because I'm like, girl, what? And then Drew Barrymore, they're flying to try to catch into that. I'm like, girl, please. Yes. They drive the truck off the bridge that has the helicopter on the back while Cameron Diaz is trying to start the helicopter.

[00:18:54] And there's a tank. There are so many modes of transportation in this one scene. From both sides. Yes. So they have to drive off the bridge and get in the helicopter all while it's falling into this dam. Yeah. It's nuts. It was a lot. But it's still one of my favorite scenes. Yes. Yeah. And the needle drops really help sell the scene as well. Yes.

[00:19:20] And then, like you said, Janine, the next scene is Natalie and what's that man's name? Pete. Pete. Yes. Natalie and Pete are moving in together. So the girls are there helping. And impromptu dance scene. Dance. Yay. A lot of dance scenes. Yes. And. Cameron can sing, but she likes to dance. Yes. Yes.

[00:19:51] And if you notice in the scene, both Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu are wearing heels and Cameron Diaz is barefoot. So they could fit them all into the scene together, the frame together. Oh. Because she's that much taller than them. Yeah. That makes sense. So yeah, now. Okay. So did the pet, the, the U.S. Marshal man didn't have the ring or did he have a fake ring? He didn't have the ring. Yeah.

[00:20:20] He didn't have the ring. And they're talking to him like he's, you know, thankful for them saving him. Like they're like, oh yeah, no problem. So he's still, you know. Got it. And then we get the scene of Bruce Willis on the airplane. And in this scene, you find out his name is William Rose Bailey, which is a direct nod to Guns N' Roses singer Axl Rose, whose real birth name is William Bruce Bailey. Oh, that's funny. Yeah. But.

[00:20:50] Bruce, he looks really good with that hair. I'm like. He really does. The hair in that stubble. I'm like. He's so good. So he, unfortunately, he does have the ring. And so he is taken out. So now that whoever this mystery person is, it has one of the rings. And then. Is that right? Yeah. Well, we do see them.

[00:21:17] We do see one of the Mongolian guys call somebody and we just see from behind. That's right. And they're. Yes. And they're speaking to them and assuming they're saying something about like we have the ring or whatever. Yeah. So. Yes. And then they find out that the bad person has both of the rings because someone from the witness protection program has now been found dead in their home. He. He choked on a pork rind.

[00:21:45] And according to the screenwriters, he was also watching porn. But that part was taken. Okay. Okay. But this is where. We get our CSI sequence. Yes. And Cameron with the best. Bullet wig. I've ever seen. I love her costume in this scene. I'm just like, because usually she's like. Like in the first scene. Glammed up. Yeah. The pretty distraction.

[00:22:14] And this is like, let's make her as like homely as possible. Yeah. Yes. And she leans into it. She has a lot of fun with it. You can tell. And then we get another Wilson brother popping up. Yes. Yes. Who was the driver in the first movie at the racetrack. Yeah. And this. And he's been in three movies, I think, so far with Drew Barrymore. So the first and second movie. And then Whip It. Oh, I love an Andrew Wilson. Oh, I think he was also in Fever Pitch as well. I believe.

[00:22:44] Was he? Okay. Problem. Yeah. I didn't know that. So the four movies. He was the business guy that she was kind of sort of dating post. Ah. Post Jimmy Fallon kind of screwing up. Yeah. It's so funny that like her, she and. Filling these films with her exes. It's like. Yeah. Well, she, she, her ex's brother because she. Yeah. You know. Yeah. So I thought that was funny. Well, she dated Luke as well, right? Didn't she date Luke? Yeah, she dated Luke. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:23:14] And so they stayed, they stayed cool. But I forgot who she had on because one, she dated Luke and one dated Owen. And they, she had them on her show. And they were just joking that they neither, both guys like don't talk to. Like they don't have the numbers. Like I think she had. Hudson. That's right. Okay.

[00:23:39] So yeah, during this one, so I seen it's Bernie Max Bosley's first chance at helping, but apparently all of his portion of that scene got cut. You see a little bit in the end credits with Melissa McCartney, who is also in the first one. Yeah. Yeah. But it's like Drew is doing the forensics and they're like, oh, this, this shoe is a, I don't even remember what she said, like an air Jordan. Yeah.

[00:24:10] Yeah. And uneven distribution due to a bilateral tear of the knee or like something crazy. It's a patella scar. Yeah. I've seen this movie too much. I have to say that Rodrigo Centoro. Yes. Fine shit, fine shit, fine shit.

[00:24:34] Like when I talk about Dylan all day, like dudes who don't after these men did not get enough play. And what I love about him even more is that he doesn't talk a lot in the movie. I know that might be not some people's things, but I very much like that he's just fine. Be cute and quiet. Yes.

[00:24:57] I think this is one of the best movies he's ever, like how sexy he looked, but in 300, body was thick. Was he doing too much talking in Love Actually for you? Love Actually. And when we do this movie, it's going to be a crime scene because that-

[00:25:22] On reappraisal, that's dead on arrival, on recent reappraisal for people for sure. I'm going to be pissed off because the thing that always made me mad about that movie, because I was like, girl, if you don't take your panties off right now- To talk to him, you could talk to him tomorrow. He'll be there tomorrow. Your brother is going to be all right. He's fine. He'll be fine tonight. One night, he'll be fine. He'll be fine. Your brother, that's the nurse's problems. Yes. That's the nurse's problem. That made me so mad. So mad.

[00:25:51] I don't know what you needed to do. Tell them like maybe he needed a little bit of melatonin that night, so he goes straight to sleep. Get him some hot milk and sedatives. Ain't no way. Ain't no way. Ain't no way. Yes. Don't see. It wasn't even- Seen him in this movie, and then seeing things she's going to have that. Yo, I get mad at the actress. That's how mad I am about that movie. Laura Linney, you screwed that up. I don't know.

[00:26:19] Those two idiot boys get to have those hot girls from America, but she couldn't get one night on Rodrigo? Give me a break. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Makes me so mad. I know. Anywho, continue. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. And that's our thirst trap section for today until we start talking about Justin Theroux. Oh my God. Oh gosh. Let's get to the Justin Theroux of it all. Famous.

[00:26:49] Famous O'Grady. So now they know, okay, someone has the rings and oh, there's a note that says find Leo or something like that. Yeah. Yes. Or just Leo. And I think they know that whoever has the rings is going to start shopping them around to the major crime families. Yes. So they show all the different crime families. And then- Because a lot of people have snitched. Yes. Yeah. Right. I think it's some- Go ahead, sorry.

[00:27:19] Oh, and the biggest clue of them all at this crime scene is pineapple sex wax that's on the door jam. Yeah. And they're like- From the perpetrator's credit card. Yeah. To get in. They're like, oh yes, a surfer. We must go surfing now. Yeah. And so Dylan and Alex are like working at the hot dog on a stick. The hot dog on a stick. Yeah. Yes. I-

[00:27:47] What I do like that this movie does highlight and I don't feel like enough movies kind of have that conversation is that like Alex is having an existential crisis that her two really good friends are getting married or getting into- are in serious relationships. Dylan. Oh, is it Dylan? Yeah. Dylan. Yeah. Dylan is upset that both Natalie and Alex are in relationships and she's just wondering

[00:28:15] like what her place is going to be and what the angels will look like, what her future- Like she's just having a lot of these thoughts and conversations. Yeah. Right. Which I think is very normal in any friendships and any changes, honestly. But I liked how they handled it and you see her mind kind of play tricks on her and because she's not communicating with her friends. So that's happening and she's kind of asking Alex about little questions. Alex is not paying attention.

[00:28:45] And in this scene, I really love that Rodrigo does come on the scene and Dylan thinks he's fine and they're like, red alert, he's a bad guy. He's a villain. They're just like, what? You always fall for the bad guy. And she's like, oh yeah, this guy must be really bad. Really evil. Yeah. And lo and behold, Patella scar. So we have our man. Yeah. So they're trying to figure out like his goal in all of this.

[00:29:15] Mainly just to not talk and be sexy and be doing the bidding of Madison. But we don't know that yet. Yeah. This scene always trips me out because they're hiding under his car. I don't know when they got there. The logistics of this. Yeah. But they're there. And then she's got the surfboard. And then she just swipes it. They get in the car and then boom, they all behind the surfboard. I said, how'd I do that?

[00:29:49] Yeah. It made me think. Logistical strangeness. It made me think of those cat commercials, those cat ads that they used to have where the cats were like looking like they had to pee and they were holding it. Yeah. And one of my friends was like, how do I get the cats to do those poses? And I looked at them and I was like, what? What? CGI. What are you talking about? Sorry. Continue.

[00:30:17] So also in this scene, we meet Madison Lee, a former angel. And Natalie recognizes her right away and just thinks it's a coincidence that they're on the beach surfing together. No. I think Madison is, is she wearing a black bikini? Mm-hmm. And. Yes. Natalie is wearing a white bikini. A white bikini. Evil. Yeah. It's good and bad. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:30:45] And they're just like gushing about her and like how amazing she is. And like, you know, talking about all her accolades, you know, Dylan and Alex are looking at her through the binoculars and like gushing about her as well. Yeah. She invented the molar mic that they use. Yeah. So we're getting, we're getting little Easter eggs of who she is that come up later, which I think it's kind of fun. And the Kevlar. So they talk about like the fact that they used to use guns and why they don't use the

[00:31:13] angels don't use guns now because she got really injured. So that's why they have the thin Kevlar that they wear now because of that. Yeah. So that's a play later. Which the real reason the angels don't use traditional gunfire was a deliberate decision made by Drew Barrymore, who was also a producer on the movie. She's a staunch advocate of gun control and did not want to condone gun violence by having the main characters glorify using guns.

[00:31:43] So that's why the main angels don't use them, but the fallen angel does. And I, I'm going to say it again. I think I said it in the first movie. I think that Drew Barrymore should have been just a producer and they could have had someone else. I'm going to stick, I'm going to stand behind it. I know people are going to be mad at me about it. Could have mixed it up. Could have mixed it up a little bit. Could have mixed it up. I'm just saying something doesn't add up.

[00:32:13] And it's her. Yes. Yes. They definitely mix it up a little bit. I don't mind her in other movies. I don't even mind her in this movie, but when I think about the potential, it always irritates me. I get that a hundred percent. So as I don't even Rodrigo, is that his name is Randy. Like, come on. Don't match. It's not matching.

[00:32:40] So as Randy leaves, Randy Emmers. Give me a break. So as Randy's leaving, a flyer flies out of his car and it's for this MotoGP, like underground race that's happening. Yeah. And then they, I love that they change outfits and personas all over again. You got the scene behind you.

[00:33:03] But do, have we figured out that Dylan is a pseudonym yet? Yeah. And that she's in the witness protection. Not yet. Or is this after the scene? No, I think it's after they get Leo. Leo. Yeah. Okay. Got it. Okay. Yeah. So they're at motocross. They have to do a buy-in. Feel Good Time is playing by Ping. And that is the lead song. The soundtrack. Yes.

[00:33:33] Loved this song. Ended up on every burned CD I would make after watching this movie for the next few months. Yeah. And so then this is, it's a very long scene. A lot happens and a lot happens in slow-mo and gravity does not appear to matter in this scene. Like Randy is upside down shooting firearms. Shooting two guns.

[00:34:02] And then all of a sudden the guns disappear for him to grab the handlebars again. Look, Randy is magic. And that's all there is to it. And they said that they wanted the, like ideally the wardrobe for the girls in this scene would have been different and more true to who they were as people. But because they needed stunt people doing all of the stunts, that's why they're covered

[00:34:32] head to toe. Yeah, because there were no women motocross racers at that level. Right. Because I watched all the special features and on the DVD. And yeah, I remember seeing that. So men were playing them in these scenes. So they had to kind of keep it neutral, but still cute. And then don't we see the thin man show up? Because isn't he, doesn't he have like a knife on his sneakers or something? Yeah. And he ended up stabbing Randy.

[00:35:02] Yeah. In slow motion, of course. In the air. I was just like, yo, if y'all don't put fine shit back on my screen, a bitch. Yeah. You're trading him a trade-in for creepy thin man. I'm going to lose it.

[00:35:25] And it was, so we find out, we figure out that Randy is after who they call Leo, but his name is actually Max played by Shia LaBeouf. Because he's a lion on his, they find it because he's a lion on his helmet. And because that's his son's sign, he's a Leo. Yeah. Love that for him. So, and they figure out he's just a kid. They're like, okay, well, what does this kid have to do with anything?

[00:35:53] And why is creepy thin man protecting him from this Randy individual? And they find out that Max is in the witness protection program because his family was killed by the O'Grady's. Yes. Yes. And thin man was protecting him because they were from the same orphanage. Yeah. Yes. And that's when all of a sudden Dylan is revealed that, or realizes, holy shit.

[00:36:23] That's a Raven moment where she's like, oh my God. Yeah. Goes to this flashback. And her flashbacks to her wild days crushing on Seamus. Yeah. With his rat tail. And I think he has braces too. Oh God. Yeah. So bad. When I, so when we did Romy and Michelle's high school reunion, I talked about how, first of all, Justin Theroux, whenever he popped up in movies back then, could never clock the shit. Like.

[00:36:53] Yes. Yes. Could never, like never linked his story together. Maybe because it was just like, at the time we just didn't know who he was. Yeah. Yeah. But I loved the cowboy so much when I was growing up in that movie. And then I loved Seamus. So it just never, I never put too much. Click that it was the same. Yeah. It was a while for me too before I realized it's the same person. I was like, my loves are the same. Yes.

[00:37:20] But funny enough is that I was obsessed with these two characters, but I am not obsessed with Justin Theroux in any way. Right? Yeah. Isn't that weird? He only does it for me in those two movies. In those two. Because he shows up in Parks and Rec for a couple of episodes. Yeah. And Sex and the City, he plays two different characters. Yeah. He does. And in those roles, I was not, I was not like obsessed in any way. I was like, okay, well he's on.

[00:37:50] Yeah. He's a guy. Yeah. But in these particular roles, obsessed. Same. And when I found out he didn't have an Irish accent, I was like, call the ambulance. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, and a little tidbit about this scene where they're joyriding and they're scream singing, living on a prayer.

[00:38:16] Apparently licensing costs for that song are very high. And so Drew, being of the Barrymores, contacted Jon Bon Jovi directly. And so they found a solution to be able to use the song in the film for a discounted rate. How so? Okay. Yeah. Like, what was his deal? I can get back to you on that. Okay. No worries.

[00:38:44] Like, did they do that charity thing for him too? Yeah. So at this point, once they realize that, like, I think this is when Dylan spills the beans, like we said. So she tells him about Seamus and her name is, her first bus, Helen Zass. Zass. Zass. Zass. Yeah. Helen Zass. So they make a lot of jokes about her name. Yes. But they're very happy. Assassins. Butties.

[00:39:14] Your best butties. Oh, so that, you know, but they let Dylan know that she's loved, she's protected. Like. Yeah. I think, is it after this that they go, they're trying to figure out what the thin man has to do with this. And while they go and look into him, they send Max with Bosley. Yes.

[00:39:37] And we meet his family and we see like how the original Bosley came to live with them. And we meet Bosley's mom and his family. So I guess they heard the complaints that there were no black people, essentially. That much in the first movie. Well, we could have had a black angel, but. Right. And so they're like, oh, we'll give you a whole black family. And there'll be the comedy, of course. So. Yes.

[00:40:04] Which I liked Bernie Mac as Bosley. As Bosley. I think that he had good chemistry with the girls and he's always funny in everything he does. Yeah. So while Bosley is taking Max to his mama's house to make sure he's protected, they, the angels visit the orphanage where Max was and where the thin man was. And this is where we. The thin man sent Emmer's car. And I think.

[00:40:34] And he always. And we learned that he has always given donations. So one of the things that he donated there was Emmer's car. Yes. After killing him. I love how I. Just like the color in this movie is just. Yes. So saturated. Yes. And the blue nun outfits that they wear. It just like always stays in my mind. Yes. This and the beach scene. So poppy. So bright. Like. Yeah.

[00:41:04] So many movies now want to be like cool if like they're so desaturated. But I love how poppy and bright and vibrant this movie is. And even like the neighborhood scenes. Like it almost looks Barbie-esque. Like. Yes. So picture perfect with like the color saturation and everything. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:41:52] So funny enough. The second time. Or the second movie where Carrie Fisher does a cameo as a nun. Oh yeah. Because she was a nun in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Silent Bob Strike Back. Yes. That's right. I forgot about that. She loves a habit. She loves a cameo. She really does. Yeah. Right. Scream 3. Scream 3. Yep. So yeah. We get a little more backstory on the Thin Man and his motivation. So they kind of figure out like oh he's not. At least in this movie.

[00:42:22] He's not a bad guy. Yeah. He's protecting the orphans. And him and Dylan have something going on. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Like it's super weird but okay. Out of nowhere kind of thing too. And then like she says like he still comes back every now and again for a haircut. We see him like freaking out in the chairs squealing. Yeah.

[00:42:48] So now we see I think it's is it now the boat where the O'Grady clan. Yeah because they find some pigeon poop on the on Emmer's car and they you know Natalie's like playing with it and detects like where it could be from. And that's right. They find that it's on that dock there. Yeah. But they don't they have to do the dance first to get the keys? So they partner with the Pussycat Girls.

[00:43:18] The little flash dance moments. Yes. Yeah. Before that. Yeah. It's the Pussycat Girls. Yeah. Pussycat Dolls. Pussycat Dolls. Oh did I say girls? What? There's also the welding scene. Before that when they're kind of looking at them and kind of watching their movements and they're like pretending to weld on a boat and they're you know playing What a Feeling and all of that. And Lucy Liu's just eating a sandwich. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:43:45] I'm like this movie like and I think this is why both movies work in the way that it does because McG does film it like a music video. And I know a lot of people complain about that but like it was fun. It works for this. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It was candy. I remember there's a blooper. Yes. I remember there was a blooper of her like some of the embers from welding that got into Lucy Liu's little scarf and she's eating her sandwich. She has to like. Which why are we really welding? Right. Right.

[00:44:15] Right. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. So they kind of scope out the Irish henchmen and find out that they go to this dance burlesque club. Club. Yeah. The treasure chest I think it's called. Yeah. And so now we have this like dancing to the Pink Panther theme. Yes.

[00:44:40] And Natalie is in a martini glass and Alex is doing some more dominatrix continuing her dominatrix ways about it. Yeah. And Dylan seduces and distracts Chris Pontius and grabs his keys. His ID. Yeah. Right. I saw I was watching the special features and I was watching a little, you know, vignette about this scene. And poor Drew. What she what that little girl went through because she makes some comment like kind of

[00:45:08] playful and funny like talking about like the last time I got asked to give a lap dance was when I was 12. So now it's like it's a really young age like 10 or 12 or something. Like as this little story. But now I get to do it in this movie and I'm just like, why is she saying this so casually? This poor baby. She's really been through it. Like, honestly, I do give her that like the way that she's been able to rise above like

[00:45:36] all the trauma and abuse and, you know, yes, growing up way too fast. So and then the next scene is them sneaking onto the ship by being cast in plaster. And I guess there was a line that was cut where they're like trying to figure out how to get on the ship. And Dylan says, I don't know, let's get plastered. And then they show up in that bust. I'm like, oh, that was a really funny line.

[00:46:06] I wish they would have kept that in. And I feel like that scene is an homage to. I thought it was to the Terminator movies with them like waking up, like they're naked and they get up. Yeah. And they jump down. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Yes. That's what I thought, especially since Robert Patrick is in that movie. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So this is like a fun Bosley moment as well. Like he gets to be the delivery driver who has to try to explain, like talking about black

[00:46:36] Irish and stuff. Saying all these Irish things. Shamrock shake and Irish drink. And they're like, just put it on the ship. Just go. So now we're on the ship. They bust out of their plaster and oh, Seamus O'Grady, shirtless Seamus is showing up. To the Cape Fear music. Yes. So good. He's got that deep V going on. Yes.

[00:47:05] The abs are abbing. It looks like he has not had a drop of liquid to drink in like three days. His veins are popping. Yeah. Yes. And but now we got to fight and there's lots of innuendos as Seamus and Dylan are fighting. At one point they cut the lights off. So they're doing Morse code in each other's hands to know like what to do next. Yes.

[00:47:32] And they really learned Morse code for the scene because I watched it again with the trivia track on. That's awesome though. Like way to commit. I really love how distinct each of the girls fighting styles are. And it was in the first movie, but definitely in the second movie. Especially like when you see Dylan fighting, it's more gritty. It's more like boxing kind of. Rough.

[00:48:00] And when Alex, when they, when she's, when they are like pulled up and Alex is just like very, she like yells all the time. Yeah. Yeah. You know, doing stuff. Yeah. And also in the scene before Seamus shows up, they find the rings cause it's like this big box of rings. And so they know titanium will float because it's boiling.

[00:48:25] And so, and the trick Cameron, Natalie does with the saber and the champagne bottle. Apparently she can do that in real life, which I do remember her doing in. Is it the Ashton Kutcher movie? Yeah. Yeah. What happens in Vegas. What happens in Vegas. Yeah. So that's one of her real life party tricks. So she pops open a champagne, pours it over the rings fly, float up.

[00:48:51] Um, and then they eventually get the rings back, get off of the ship. And now it is like another gravity defying moment. What's the way they get off the ship? Oh, so we, we surfing on boards. Playing some boards. That flew in the air. That we caught. We caught midair as well. Yes. Right. Insane work. And then. Sliding down a rope.

[00:49:18] And then we've got a fire thrower situation. And when. Yes. Seamus walks through it. Like, yo. He ain't playing around. Oh my God. Yes. It's crazy. And they play the song Firestarter. Firestarter. Yes. Yes. Which drew. Started in the movie. Firestarter. Firestarter. Firestarter. So that was really cool. Firestarter. Yeah. Plus, who doesn't love that song? Right? It really am. Yes.

[00:49:47] And so this is such a fun action sequence. And this song is like such a good needle drop for it. I heard that song at the grocery store. And I said, what's going on? What's going on? Who's playing? Fighting people in the aisles. I don't know. Is it on the oldie station now? I don't know. I was like, this is just me. But that's a great sequence. And they look so good doing the fighting. Like you can see them doing everything. I love when you can see the actors doing it. Yeah.

[00:50:18] And then, oh, is it after this that Dylan realizes like she's, she's fearful that she's going to get. Get them killed. Seamus threatens her. Yeah. She kind of hangs back because she falls down from an explosion from the fire. The other two girls have already gotten on the boat. And Seamus approaches her and kind of threatens her that he's going to kill her friends. So that's kind of what implores her to like, you know, I need to leave to keep them safe. Yeah.

[00:50:48] So she leaves a note and like all of, because like there's this running joke that like she never returns people's stuff. Their stuff, their boots and all their. Yeah. Yeah. She borrows from them. And so that's kind of like the hint of them. Like she's really gone because she's returned our stuff. So they go to try and find her. Or do they? She goes to, does she go to Mexico? Where'd she go? I just know she went to a bar. Yeah, I think she goes to Mexico. Yeah. Yeah. And she sees one of the. Original angel. Original angels.

[00:51:18] Yeah. And I don't know if she was supposed to be. I can't remember. I'm now getting up the, getting the facts from the last movie and this movie mixed up. But I know that all I can remember is just like how they use the lighting to make her look like she was. Yes. Like she had a beam of light. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah. Jacqueline Smith replies to her role as Kelly Garrett from the original series, which would then mean that the original series is canon to the movies.

[00:51:48] And we're just seeing like the, the guard change of different angels. Over time. Yeah. I love that. When was the reunion, the high school reunion that Natalie goes to? Oh yeah. That was pretty early. I thought it was early on because that's when she thinks that he's going to propose, but then she finds out that he really just wants to give her a puppy. So like there's that stuff happening.

[00:52:14] And I think it happened earlier because that's when why Dylan is getting upset. Yes. She was asking Natalie some weird questions. And so Natalie's thinking like, Oh, did, did, you know, Pete say something like he's going to propose. And so she's kind of having anxiety about it. Just another reason to kind of throw another dance sequence in there. Also his high school is Rydell High. Yes. High school as Grace. Which I love. And I think when it weren't there, mascots were very like oddly connected. Yeah.

[00:52:44] They were both the school mascots. Natalie was the beaver and he was the cock or something. Yeah. Yeah. Cause she also overhears a conversation with him, with one of his friends at the high school reunion about like how much responsibility and stuff like it is for having a dog. And at the same time, Alex met LeBlanc, her boyfriend. He's on set. He's making, is this the, no, is that the second one? No.

[00:53:13] This one, he's at her like fancy house with her dad, John Cleese. Right. And he's telling her about, yes, with the dad. Cause the dad doesn't know what she does, but he now knows what she does and he's explaining it out of context. So, yes. And the dad thinks that she is a lady of the night. Yes. Yes. And so when he, when she, when she thinks that he knows for sure, she's like, I'm so happy. And she's like, I did it three, three dudes this time. Like she.

[00:53:43] At once. Yeah. She's having a hard time. I love when she's like, I need to go take a shower. I have God knows what on me. All over me. Yes. Then I'll come back here and give you a blow by blow. And Jason is just laughing it up. Yeah. He don't know what's going on, but they all get invited to his premiere. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Which is like, if you look at the image, it's very similar to like Mission Impossible 2. It's like, yeah.

[00:54:14] Maximum Extreme 2 or whatever. Yeah. And they end up at the Griffin Observatory. Yes. And this is when they find out that Madison is really the bad guy. Yes. And Robert Patrick was lying because he said he had broken some ribs. And so they throw him some keys. Bosley throws him some keys and it reveals that no, his ribs weren't broken. He was faking it so he could get the second ring. Does Bosley. So they start following him.

[00:54:43] Was that a plan by Bosley? No, I don't. They play it like it is. Like there's like, good job, Bosley. And he's like, wait, what? He doesn't know what that he just. They also at some point do something where they're like, Lex has to be on some sort of like. Oh. On the road. Yeah. That's. Her little chic asphalt outfit to blend in with the road. Yeah.

[00:55:09] Well, and like the screenwriters are like, this scene was to show they really need Dylan. They need a trio of people to successfully complete a mission. I was like, I got none of that from the scene. But also where are those kids crossing the road to? Right. It seemed like they were by the ocean. Yeah. Like it's not adding up. Feasible. Yes. Yeah. So they do that. We got to get the Bosley stuff to do. Yeah. Right.

[00:55:39] I don't know whose car they were tracking though. It was Robert. They were Robert Patrick because once Bosley did the thing with the keys, they realized that he's in on whatever's happening. So they decide to follow him. So she's stuck to his car on the road. And who else feels like they really weren't looking for Dylan hard enough? I think they called her and was like, girl, get your ass back to LA. Yeah.

[00:56:07] So when they put two and two together and then they realize that Madison is the evil person, they go to the observatory and then Dylan shows up because obviously Madison's got a thorn in her side because she feels a certain way about like Charlie and how- Oh yeah, we get the scene where she goes to the office and she kind of, and we get more of her story

[00:56:32] that she was reckless and almost got her other angels killed because she was just running into this whole thing. And so that's kind of why she's a fallen angel because she was just acting very recklessly and getting people killed. And then also we get to just see Demi Moore as the most beautiful crier ever. Ever. That ghost one tear cry that she does. The quivering eyes of a single tear falling without her blinking or forcing it. Like-

[00:56:59] Look, I'm just going to tell you guys, she had real training. You know, most people don't. Real training and it was called General Hospital. Get on it! Yeah. All about it! Yep, yep, yep. So now the angels are just clutching their pearls because not one of our own is going to sell these rings. And she shoots Robert Patrick too because he's like, hey partner, I did it. I got the rings for you or whatever.

[00:57:28] She just like shoots him dead. But Robert Patrick also looking pretty good in this movie because he wasn't as lean as he was in T2. Yeah. And he's not as what he's looking like now. Like, I'm like, this was a good little era for Robert Patrick. Not Robert Patrick catching strays. Oh, I just pulled up a picture of him now. He old. Yes.

[00:57:55] But in this movie, I'm like, he was looking pretty good because he was way too skinny and lean in Terminator 2. And this was like, he's looking kind of good right here. He was, he's old now. And quite frankly, everybody can't age like Harrison Ford. It's not possible. That's okay. Jackie, that, yeah, go ahead. That video, I sent you a video on Instagram and you have to watch it. Is this one lady about like her gummies and stuff like that.

[00:58:25] And she ate something and she's like, I gave it five Harrison Fords. And I was like, I got to start doing that. That is, I love it. Oh no. Great. So now Madison, of course, is monologuing to the angels and then shoots all of them off of the building. They look like broken ass Barbie dolls in the grass. Yeah.

[00:58:54] And I think they're supposed to kind of be hitting like an angel's pose, like on the ground. Yes. And also, Madison, get a hair tie. You know you can't be doing all that stuff with that long ass hair. But like, how gorgeous is her hair in every single scene? So beautiful. Right? It looks amazing. I'm like, how? But I'm still like, hair tie. I can't. I sit in like, in front of the AC vent in the car and I look like a poodle afterwards. I'm like, how did you want?

[00:59:22] How do you want to do long hair and you just keep it looking great? You could just easily just flip it out of your face. Like, no. I would just be like, blow back right in my face. So they do hear Jason, not Jason Patrick. Robert Patrick's character talking or like someone is giving him code of like where to meet and when. Right? Isn't that it? Right? Are they tapping someone else?

[00:59:51] I think they hear him on the window where they were following him on the road. I think that's when they hear the clues. Yeah. And so we see Madison now has the rings. She leaves and they all wake up from just being mildly tossed off a building. And they rip open their shirts to show their Kevlar body armor. Which was teased earlier on. Yeah. Because Bosley was like, what's with these vests? Like, they're so expensive. And she's like, you know, Natalie says they were especially made for us.

[01:00:19] So just kind of, you know, throwing that in the background when it comes up later. Oh yeah, that thing. Yeah. I do love in this scene that Cameron Diaz, one heel has popped off and she's just, she's rolling with it. Like she's just dragging that heel behind her.

[01:00:40] But they're kind of putting the clues together and like under the star, like under the stars and you need to go up a stair and stuff. So they're like, oh, it's Hollywood, the walk of fame. And also because I think she, because a lot of the names, how they were coded were astrological stuff too. I think Madison really was obsessed with astrology. Yeah.

[01:01:09] That's how they figured out it was her. Yeah. Yeah. One thing I forgot to just give a shout out is that Janet Dubois plays Bosley's mom or in the movie. Oh yeah. Mm-hmm. Got a shout out for an OG legend. Good times. Yes. All day. Yes. Big boy is also there too when they're playing Clue. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. So let's bring it home, Jackie.

[01:01:39] Bring it home. Okay. So they show up. All of the mob families are getting together or like converging as Madison is having a bidding war for these rings. Big fight sequence on the roof. Thin Man shows up. Well, Madison tricks them. She gets them all to go on the roof and as they're being escorted, they're being escorted by like three different people who work at the place to escort them up to the rooftop.

[01:02:07] So there's like a bellhop and like a guy who's like sitting at the counter and all of the mob people are on the rooftop. And we think Madison is going to that rooftop to meet them. But when she opens her door to go out to the rooftop, it's empty. And when the door opens to the rooftop with all the mob people, it's the feds coming to get them. Robert Forrester, I think he's like in this movie. I was like, yes. And so she tricked them. So she got them all captured.

[01:02:34] But we see Seamus notice the booty of the bellhop man. Helen's ass strikes again. Yes. So that comes into play in this next little part. And so all of those escorts mask off and it's the angels. So now they're all fighting on the rooftop.

[01:02:57] And apparently they didn't do a wide enough shot, but that the lights that are or the letters that are in lights on top of the roof, apparently a bunch of them like fall or damage. And so at the end, it spells out angels, but they didn't do a wide shot of it. Because it's the Los Angeles theater. Yeah. Yeah. A lot of stuff happens in these action sequences. It really does. What do you mean?

[01:03:26] She's hanging on to whatever that is in the Austin Powers. And she has like a little bat wing little outfit. Yeah. What's the outfit? Yeah. Madison just kind of casually jumps off the, like base jumps off the roof, which is not, it's not a high building. Like, ma'am, your velocity. Yes. This does not exist. Let's not. No. No. As people have said, we're thinking too hard. Yeah.

[01:03:56] So yeah, they're all like riding this Austin Powers car and like Natalie's flung out. Alex is running into a mate. They all get flung in crazy places. Yeah. And you're like, okay, but surely they're dead. Like they have shown them eyes wide on the pavement. Yes. No, no. They're just momentarily stunned. Yes.

[01:04:22] Well, even on the rooftop, we get that whole fight sequence and then Thin Man's there and Alex realizes like he's helping her fight. And they're like, he's on our side. And then we get kind of the romantic situation between him and Dylan where he saves Dylan from Seamus. Yes. And then he kisses her and they pull out each other's hair and like she's trying to like relate to him and he's relating to her. And it's a cute little moment. Like, where did this come from?

[01:04:50] And then Thin Man gets killed by Seamus and he's just set on the roof like a monkey, like swinging his arm. There's no way I can date a man who's pulling my hair out. Sorry. Right now, a little too much. Yeah. And then we see Thin Man fall from the roof and then Dylan and him have a whole big fight again. And she's able to get Seamus to fall on the roof and he falls on Thin Man who was stabbed.

[01:05:18] And Thin Man creeps up to him to ultimately kill him. But it's like, you've already fallen that far. How are you still alive? Exactly. We need to see Thin Man be the one to kill Seamus, I guess. Yes. So now we're at the climax. So all of this is going on while Jason's premiere is going on. Oh, yes.

[01:05:41] So movie premiere happening, fighting, mob bosses being arrested by the feds. Just a typical night in L.A. And then they go to this theater. And again, Madison's monologuing. But they've kind of learned her fighting style in a way. And they're working together now to instead of it's just like I fight Madison, then you fight Madison.

[01:06:08] They're kind of using the Voltron effect. And our powers combined to defeat Madison. And she drops her gun and she goes to grab it. And they do like this gymnastic maneuver and are able to knock her into a hole that was created in the stage. And as she's falling. So that leads to the bowels of hell. Yes.

[01:06:36] And I guess there's a gas line that has been ruptured. And as she fires her gun, it triggers an explosion which envelops her. And Madison is no more. It's so hard to say goodbye. Yes. And then they get all cute and go to the premiere. Yeah. Yeah. And their outfits almost match. I feel like they wore something similar. They had multiple premieres.

[01:07:02] But I feel like the white outfit looks like something that they wore. Or is this the movie where Drew wears the t-shirt that's in the jeans and Cameron has her shoes off? Do you guys know? With the champagne. You guys know that infamous picture? That's from them going to the premiere. Oh, yes. I do know what you're talking about. Walking down the street. Yes. Got it. I think it's for this movie.

[01:07:32] Ah. Yeah. But another case solved. Rings are returned to the U.S. Marshalls. And... Oh, also there was like an explosion that was going to the premiere. But Bosley like bats it away and like makes an explosion in the sky. And Jason's like, oh, they really went all out for this premiere. I love how clueless he is. I love how clueless he is. Jason and Joey, same character. Same. Yeah.

[01:08:01] It was not a stretch for Matt LeBlanc at all in these movies. And then we get a car wash scene at the end while we see bloopers during the credits and feel good time plays. Yes. And that is Charlie's Angels Full Throttle.

[01:09:17] So, in addition to we had mentioned Flash, Stan's Cape Fear, and CSI, there were numerous references to other films and television series including Sound of Music, Singing in the Rain, and the original Charlie's Angels series. And there were a lot of injuries. Barrymore broke her tailbone. She had landed on a chair during a fight sequence with Justin Theroux and she forgot to wear her protective padding. Whoopsie.

[01:09:47] And Theroux also entered himself in that same situation. He, apparently, Barrymore kicked him so hard during one of their fight sequences that it broke a part of his protective chest plate he was wearing. Damn. Oh, my gosh. [01:11:10] So we're still getting all the cutesy, girly stuff with kind of, you know, great action that's, you know, on par with what the boys are doing at this time in action movies. So, so much fun. Just so bright and a feel-good time. Love it. Jackie? Same.

[01:11:30] I own it digitally and I own the DVD and I watched it three times, which I think is a record for prepping for a show. I would buy it again as well. So no complaints here.
