[00:01:40] So American Pie is a 1999 teen comedy that follows a group of high school friends as they navigate the challenges of adolescence and their quest to lose their virginity before graduation. The story centers around Jim, who after a series of embarrassing incidents becomes determined to
[00:01:58] find a sexual partner. He is joined by his friends Kevin, Oz, and Finch. The group make a pact to achieve their goal, leading to a series of humorous and awkward situations. It stars Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Alison Hannigan, Natasha Lyonne, Thomas Ian Nicholas,
[00:02:16] Tara Reid, Nina Savari, Eddie K. Thomas, Sean William Scott, Eugene Levy, Shannon Elizabeth, and of course the queen herself, Jennifer Coolidge. It was directed by Chris and Paul Weitz and it was written by Adam Hertz and you can currently rent it on Prime.
[00:02:35] But before we start, let's get into our ratings rewind. So you know the drill. Before we get into the movie, we will reveal the rating our Y2K versions of ourselves would give. Then at the end, we'll see if our current selves agree with the initial
[00:02:50] rating. Our scale consists of would buy it, would buy it again. The best would plan repeat. Five day rental. Would watch again. Two day rental. Okay, but nothing to write home about. And same day rental. This shit is straight up jizz beer.
[00:03:10] What is your Y2K rating? Y2K Jackie loved American Pie. It was it came out our senior year or right before senior year. So this is like pivotal high school. They were graduating the same time we were
[00:03:26] so I owned it. I couldn't give my rating at first. It just dawned on me like, bitch, do you have this? And sure enough, I have American Pie and American Pie wedding or American Wedding,
[00:03:43] which I don't know why. I know. I don't know why I don't have the second one because I didn't really like the third one. I do like the reunion movie even though it like tanked. But yeah, I guess
[00:03:56] I'm an American Pie girly. I have to try and find it because in our senior video yearbook, I edited so we had like our top five, five movies of when we were in high school and American Pie was one
[00:04:12] of them. And I cut really Greek cut the trailer for it. And I feel like it's a masterpiece even like 20 some odd years later in my mind. I'm like, this is my best work. Well, I hope you find it we
[00:04:28] can share it on the pod on social for sure. Oh boy. So yeah, we both would buy it. Okay, that's interesting. Let's get into the box office. So this movie had a budget of $11 million
[00:04:44] and it made $235.5 million. This was a massive hit. I know we talked about this like the films in 99. It was very competitive. There's so many good movies that came out that year.
[00:04:58] I think the only one in our time frame that's comparable is 2004. Like, I think those are the two best years of movies that came out in our time frame. But despite insiders claiming to be a
[00:05:11] potential sleeper hit Universal, dumb as they are, sold off the foreign rights in attempt to recoup its budget because they did not believe in this movie whatsoever. And people even at the time were
[00:05:25] like, not smart, not smart. So if we know that it made 235.5 a good amount of that movie money came from overseas. So it was sold successfully to foreign distributors at the Cannes International Film Festival and it earned $18.7 million during its opening weekend and defeated Wild Wild West
[00:05:46] for the number one spot. That I'm not surprised. As we talked about in another, I don't know which episode we talked about it. I think it was Catwoman. Yeah, when we do Catwoman, I will talk about me knowing when I should have watched this movie.
[00:06:00] It's just not gonna be good. Well, they earned back their investment. Literally the first weekend. Yeah. And that's not even a strong opening weekend number. It just had legs like it just I think
[00:06:15] it was word of mouth and yeah, and then people going back multiple times to watch it. Yeah. 100% because we quoted this movie. This was a huge high school movie for like you were saying
[00:06:28] like our time period and so when Universal sold the rights to give them that financial security in case it didn't do well. It just I know they're like kicking themselves. They made a like there
[00:06:40] was a lot of stuff happening. They sold the rights. There was at one point they were like, okay, we're gonna have it scheduled to come out the same weekend as Phantom Menace, which would
[00:06:48] have been the dumbest thing they could have done. So let's hear what the critics had to say about the movie. So Stephen Holden of the New York Times who he felt that America pie was one of the
[00:07:00] shallowest and most prurient I prurient prurient in films. He'd be using big words at the New York Sorry. Roger Ebert, Lil Rog. He was a little bit more supportive. He awarded it three out of four
[00:07:23] stars. He noted that it is not inspired but it's cheerful and hardworking and sometimes funny. And here's the important thing. It's not mean. Its characters are sort of sweet and lovable. And I would have to agree with that. Like I was surprised rewatching
[00:07:40] how I felt about it. Now this one I was like, this is hilarious. So when this movie came out, they suspect because it was rated R that a lot of kids snuck in to see this movie.
[00:07:56] So the box office numbers for the like you were saying were strong, but wasn't like the biggest opening ever. It may be because a lot of those kids might have been buying tickets to Tarzan,
[00:08:09] which was in its third week at the theaters at that point. Because the second week that Tarzan came out, it saw an 18.2% drop in its box office. The second week, a 51.9% drop. But then miraculously,
[00:08:26] it's the fourth weekend, it just dipped 17%. It like rebounded. And it just so happened that it came out the same time American Pie. So I think a ton of those kids were saying one for Tarzan,
[00:08:37] please. Going to American Pie, which would not happen now because we have assigned seats. But back in our day, kiddos, we did it. And you just it was a free for all. Assigned seats and
[00:08:50] more security cameras. So I thought that was so funny. That is hilarious. I mean, good on them. And good for Tarzan. Just thrown in some extra cheddar. I feel like I never really had the
[00:09:08] experience of sneaking into like an R rated movie or anything because my parents were so ridiculous and we're like, let's watch Boomerang at the age of nine. It's fine. Cool. Well, before we get into casting, let's hear a word from our POP! House.
[00:09:30] The 1990s. My very favorite decade, especially for music. This is Dope Nostalgia and I'm your host Naomi Carmack. And every week we revisit the era that brought us Hammer Pants, Crystal Pepsi, Pogs, Hypercolor, Pokemon, and some of the greatest songs of all time. On Dope Nostalgia,
[00:09:55] not only do I have episodes where I talk about the big artists of the 90s with friends, but sometimes those big artists come on the show. Past guests include Naughty by Nature, George Lamont, Alana Miles, Color Me Bad, Biff Naked, Right Said Fred, and so many more. Dope
[00:10:10] Nostalgia, a podcast made for 90s kids like me. You can find us on Spotify, Apple Music, Podbean, Stitcher, and wherever podcasts are served. Casting. I love that like when Tron William Scott talks about getting this movie that
[00:10:30] he was working at Home Depot at the time. So for most of the people in this cast, this was like their first big movie. And a lot of them talk about why they're still cool with each other now
[00:10:41] because they had that. They were also young. They were all on their first movie. They were learning so much and they just had that like automatic connection with each other. And so Tron William
[00:10:52] Scott was like, yeah, I was working at Home Depot. And I wasn't getting like a ton of scripts. And I got this script and I was really happy to be able to finally get one. Nicholas, he got the
[00:11:05] script and he said he threw it away. He found it to be morally where he was cool with, but he gave it a second chance. And he felt like it had so much heart. Like that was the thing that really
[00:11:17] drew him to it once he really got past it. So and then Chris was in Illinois and he saw the script and he's like, I got to figure out how to get to California. I have to go in for this role.
[00:11:31] Yeah. And I was just like, oh, that's so sweet that they were all over the place. And they just, you know, culminated in this movie. It's so perfectly cast. Yeah. Like there is not a
[00:11:42] single character. And there are some actors and actresses that I don't care for, like, in general in this movie. Yeah, but it is so perfectly cast. I would not recast anyone. Like, it's so good. I think the difference with this movie. So if there's like three different
[00:12:03] categories of teen movies at this point, because we had so many, you have like the indie, just rough around the edges, not angsty. They're not necessarily like for maybe you and I not
[00:12:18] necessarily like us per se, but we can relate to them because of just the oddities and it's funny. Or you have like the Hollywood teenagers like and she's all that and 10 things I hate about you,
[00:12:33] you know, they're pretty people. But American Pie felt like I felt like I saw every single one of those people at school. Yeah, like, the girls were pretty but not like Hollywood over the top. You
[00:12:47] know, they felt like real teenagers, every one of them. Diffler definitely felt like somebody you knew, you know, a bunch of people that we knew in high school. So I just I found that endearing
[00:13:00] that it just felt relatable. I mean, could it be more diverse? Yes, but it was also Michigan. So I get it. But yeah, just it felt real. Yeah. Allison Hannigan went to her callback edition
[00:13:15] and she really had to pee. So she ran to the bathroom, and her name was being called right as she got out. So she went in without having to like calm down from the like, I gotta pee rush. And now
[00:13:26] my name is being called. So she read the part really quirky and with an over amount of energy. And she actually credits that to getting the part, which I kind of love. She also stayed in character
[00:13:39] the whole even after scenes, like she was Michelle the whole time. So I thought that was funny. And Eugene Levy, like most people don't realize that most of the his lines in the movie are just
[00:13:55] improvised. He really did not like the script. He felt that the character read weird or creepy for the dad and he wanted to be more grounded and show that like he really cared for his son and was
[00:14:08] trying to help him through this, which I love because some of the other characters especially we see in like 80s and early 90s movies where the parents are just kind of like not paying attention.
[00:14:18] Yeah, like completely aloof. So it was funny to see the dad like be quirky and nerdy essentially, but he cared and loved his son. So yeah, absolutely. Super sweet. He added a lot of parts to the role
[00:14:35] where it could have been really cringy, like the way Jim's dad was approaching it was always with like love and care, even though he had to talk about like these hard subjects.
[00:14:47] One of the things that I loved is that we did The Wood also this year. And I felt so many parallels more than I had originally thought when we did The Wood. After rewatching, I was like, oh my god,
[00:14:59] frame for frame. Some of these are like very similar. But dudes, why are you buying so many condos? Like how many times do you think you're going to be having sex in this one time?
[00:15:11] Well, and it seemed like Jim was just practicing putting them on because they were just like unrolled, unwrapped and unrolled just in his nightstand. Like but it seems so actual teenage boy like just the real factor in this. And of course, there are scenes where things are like
[00:15:31] Hollywood blown up for shock value. But a lot of the stuff it's like, yeah, that's like what we were experiencing during that time of high school. Let's jump into American Pie, shall we?
[00:15:45] So they did their reunion, I think in like 2019 or something like that. I think it was like 20 years. And they were asking that anybody ever hook up on the cast. And it was I think it was Tara Reads
[00:16:00] who was like, no, no one hooked up with each other. She was saying that like on the set, a lot of them because it was their first movie, they were kind of just like so focused on the
[00:16:08] movie and they became like brothers and sisters with each other. But then when I was watching another clip of them, Natasha Lyonne started telling a story about Sean William Scott, and the call she had received from him. And how like, she didn't really get into it because he
[00:16:26] got so embarrassed. He was embarrassed. Yeah. And so she was like, okay, I'll just leave it alone. And so then the guy who plays Fitch was like, Whoa, I didn't know this call was happening.
[00:16:38] And so they finally were just saying like who they kind of had crushes on. And so Jason said that he had a crush on Chris at first. He was just joking. I think I don't know maybe he did.
[00:16:50] But then he said he had a crush on Michelle. And Michelle was like, really? Didn't didn't see that one coming. And then Natasha said she had like a little crush on the guy who plays Finch. And then
[00:17:02] she's like, if I could go back in time, I would definitely mess with him and Sean William Scott like missed opportunities. Because both Allison and Tara were like, why did you hit that? Why did
[00:17:13] you deny him? Like, what was that about? So I thought that was cute. So it starts with all and like, those few notes play and I am immediately back in 1990 the amount of quotes,
[00:17:32] or like lines that like I knew were coming before they were coming because like you said, this movie was just so quotable. And we watched it all the time. Nonstop. Plus, you get a blink
[00:17:45] when he to cameo like sign me up. It was I think it definitely was like playing in the background a lot at your house. Sure. And apparently, the wrong blink when he to drummer was credited
[00:17:58] for this movie. Yeah, I think Travis had just they just switched at this point. And so they didn't put Travis Barker's name in the credits. I thought that was funny. But also like everybody
[00:18:11] tried to look at the like, cable channels that were what do you call them? Like the cable channel you didn't have to try to see if you could see something. Yeah, it was just scrambled. And
[00:18:24] sometimes you'd see like a titty or a dick, but never a dick. They never showed dicks on the skin once in a while you can get a dick. Maybe not Cinemax. But if it was like the actual porn porn,
[00:18:38] yeah, they're like pay per view porn. Yeah, you can squeeze out a dick sometimes. Yeah, no, you're right. But that's the weird thing. And in this scene, you see, like the audio comes in
[00:18:49] crystal clear, right? It's just the video that scrambled. And the way when that guy says spank my hairy ass, and Jim's dad is just like, what's that? Like, the way he delivers that line always
[00:19:06] just cracks me up. Because it's such a like, dad thing. Like, I don't think I heard what I heard. But probably I did. I just feel like why doesn't Jim have a lock on his door? Yeah. And like his
[00:19:22] mom, I kind of feel like there's an age where as a mother, as parents, you should know that your child is going to be doing, you know, exploring their body. Yeah. That maybe you should have some
[00:19:35] boundaries about privacy to just make sure you're not going to be in secondhand embarrassment seeing your child jerk off into a sock. Also, when did men start doing this? Is this a handbook? They all
[00:19:46] know to do it in the sock? Like, I don't know, we should ask some men. I so I have to like, I had to keep reminding myself like these parents are boomers. Yeah. And so obviously,
[00:20:08] they didn't have the birds and the bees talks or it was just very surface, right? Like don't go petting in the park. Marry her before you have sex, that type of stuff. And so I think for the
[00:20:24] mom especially, she couldn't even fathom that Jim would be doing this. It's her sweet little boy. I don't know why he didn't just yell, Mom, I'm changing, you know, like he sat there with the
[00:20:38] pillow with the sock on his dick and hope that she would leave instead of just saying, Mom, I just farted something to get her out of there. I need you to leave. Yeah, like boundaries. Right?
[00:20:54] GTFO. Because I would do that sometimes my mom would just barge in. I'm like, I'm changing. And she's she would be like, it's nothing I've never seen. I was like, that's not the point. You need
[00:21:04] to get out. Like, I don't want to change in front of you. These are the things we're working through now in therapy. Yes. 100%. So we have met Jim and he is completely embarrassed. And then the next
[00:21:21] scene is Kevin and Vicki driving to school. She really wants to get into a college I can't remember. It's some college in Michigan. And, and she's like so anxious that she's having Kevin read it.
[00:21:36] And he like dicks around with her and he's like, Oh, you were rejected, blah, blah, blah. But like she she plays it off. And she's just like, stop joking, blah, blah, blah, I got in. And then she
[00:21:49] tells him she loves him for the first time. And he's just like, cool. Did you ever tell someone you loved him in high school? No. Yeah, me either. I wouldn't even know what to do. If someone was
[00:22:05] like, I love you. I'd have been like, ditto. Yeah, yeah. And then we see Kevin go and talk to his friends about it. And they're like, she she said, I love you. What do you say? And he was just like,
[00:22:24] nothing. They're like, that was a poor choice, man. I think he said like, thank you or something. Yeah, they are that couple like, you know, in high school where people have been together since like
[00:22:37] sixth grade and you're like, okay, y'all ain't gonna make it past college. But it's cute. It's a cute thing. And they do genuinely care about each other. Yeah. It's not like they're fighting
[00:22:50] all the time or anything like that. For the most part, these relationships that are formed both with them, the boys and like the like boyfriend girlfriend relationships are very relatable.
[00:23:03] They're very true to life, the type of relationships that you have. Yeah, I liked it a lot because in a lot of the other teen movies, you know, the couples form their senior year and then they're
[00:23:13] like, we're going to be together at like get married kind of thing. And you're just like, or just the implies that they're going to be together forever. And you know, they're breaking. Right? I liked that it was a little bit more realistic with these couples and they talk
[00:23:28] about it. They like verbalize that it's kind of unrealistic and they'll try but not gonna work out. Yeah. So we're also introduced to I never can remember Natasha Lyonne's character, Jessica. So she's kind of the wise stage of the high school. It seems like she's been sexually active
[00:23:50] forever. And so everyone just goes to her for advice, or to start rumors. And so Vicky's talking to her about how she said I love you and, and Kevin didn't say it back. And I guess she only gives
[00:24:08] Kevin blowjobs, but she's never he's never gone down on her or anything. And I love and it took me a lot much longer than I'd like to admit to figure out number one what she was saying because Natasha
[00:24:20] Lyonne and number two what it meant, but she's like you never double click the mouse. And I like that's an incredibly clever way to say you've never mastered. I do love that the difference between this movie and the other sex comedies that came before in
[00:24:48] like the 80s it did prioritize the conversations of the women. Now I will say that it could have been more to see the women have friendships and talk about other things than having
[00:25:01] the six. Yeah, but it was a step above what we had seen previously. So even the fact that Jessica's bringing up female orgasm, and that even and pleasure and that one of the characters which is
[00:25:17] Kevin wants hit like he says it that he wants his girlfriend to have as much pleasure as he is. Instead of just focusing on getting laid and kind of treating the girls like property, which I really didn't appreciate what the you know, watching it back then. But yeah,
[00:25:35] I just looked up to see if American Pie passes the Bechdel test. Technically does it because does because of the masturbation conversation because it doesn't include a man. Okay, because I was wondering, I was like, all right, I know they're talking
[00:25:53] to each other. But is it because they're talking about Kevin? So I wasn't sure. But that's good. Yeah, I always every time I see this movie, I just want Jessica to have a bigger role.
[00:26:05] Every time. Yeah, give me an entire movie with just Jessica. Yeah, I and I'm glad that Michelle got more of a role in the light later movies because she was so funny in the first one. And
[00:26:16] I wanted to know more about this crazy girl. So because I kind of felt like Vicky was a little boring for me. And so yeah, she was very vanilla. Yes, she was there. Even Yeah. I
[00:26:31] Heather is my favorite after Jessica because there's no comparing Jessica but after Jessica, Heather is my favorite female character. Like she she's willing to stand up for herself and like not willing to settle for a guy that's just going to like play her or Yeah, you know,
[00:26:54] but I think all for this being written by a man, the female characters, I feel like for the most part are very fleshed out and they have their own personalities. And it's pretty true to life of
[00:27:09] the type of people you would see in a high school. And I do like that this big friend group is loyal to each other. You always see these movies where they have like love triangles
[00:27:19] and stuff or they're trying to steal each other's girl or whatever. And it just like everyone has their own thing and they're supportive of each other and that trying to like screw each other
[00:27:30] over which is nice. Like if you think about it, maybe Stifler is supposed to be that role but there is no like bully villain role in this which we always see in a teen movie. So that's really
[00:27:42] nice. I think the only one is like whatever's going on with Stifler and Finch. But in a weird way, they're still friends. So yeah, and Stifler he's just that mouthy guy that is just showboats
[00:27:56] and tries to be funny and stuff. But he's not really ever ill intended. Yeah, they the I think it was Allison Hannigan. One of the the girls said that the thing about Stifler's character
[00:28:11] is that he could be doing some of the most disgusting things. But because of his personality or from the Sean William Scott angle of it, there's just like a warmth to it or just like a cute
[00:28:24] kid vibe to it. I think it's like American Reunion where he's like taking a shit in a cooler. And they're like, What are you doing? He just mouths and I'm taking a shit. But it's just so like
[00:28:39] something a little kid would do. So you kind of can't get mad at it at it. So it's very much like he's an asshole, but he's our asshole. Right? Yeah, 100%. There are moments though where I'm
[00:28:50] like, dude. Yeah, no, don't do that. Yeah. So they're at like their local pizzeria where they go to hang out. Right? Which feels very much like the wood. Yes, that's what they do. And
[00:29:04] they're all just talking about, like trying to get laid. And Jim asks, What is third base feel like when Oz says, with the two fingers, like warm apple pie. And so that plants a seed that will grow
[00:29:22] later on. So now they're on their way to Stifler. There are so many just funny moments that are just subtle in this movie. Like when Finch tries to ride his moped and it and he stalls it. Yeah,
[00:29:38] like some of these things are so genius. And I bet some of them were probably improv or like, just happened and they kept it in the movie. Yeah, it was so funny is that we know that the
[00:29:52] studio didn't believe in the script at all. Or like that it would do anything. Then you know, it took 70 they reached out to 70 directors before they got to their the two directors who the brothers who decided to duly direct this movie, but yeah, like 70. That's crazy. That
[00:30:15] is insane. And that it just ended up doing so well. I do love Jim's shirts because that is so 90s. It's very much like a button down graphic button down almost like a Hawaiian
[00:30:33] shirt, which of course makes me think of Ian our dear friend Ian. And this was just such the style at the time and even the picture behind me where he's got that like blue, like bright blue collar
[00:30:44] and then it's like a lighter blue and then yeah, the I don't even know it looks like one of those puzzle books where you like have to strain your eyes to see Yeah. But it feels like a time capsule
[00:30:56] of the time for sure. Even when Heather's wearing that cardigan thing. Yes. Yeah, then Jim's hair is just Ross's hair from fresh. It is just slick down and I think it's because again, they grew
[00:31:13] we grew up with boomer parents that like, didn't really teach you how to like, style your hair and stuff. So you just wanted to do it your curly hair to do something other than be curly and frizzy.
[00:31:27] All the shit out of it. That's definitely a white people thing because some of the styles I was like, what's going on with that? Like, it's crazy. But I also like Chris Klein's hair really always
[00:31:42] annoyed me in this movie because it was so much like his hair. He you could tell it's very close to when he made election. And I like him much better. I think in the second movie has a different
[00:31:55] haircut because I don't know what's going on. He's got two little stringy droopy droops here. It's like sideways sideways. I don't know what's going on. Did not love it was not a look for me.
[00:32:07] So now we're at Stifler's party, everyone's arriving and we are introduced to a secondary or like a tertiary character. Sherman, who the actor Chris Owen he pops up in a lot of
[00:32:23] can't hardly wait. Yes. So he's the guy who steals stuff and can't hardly wait. He is she's all that he's all that you've the pubes eater. If you go earlier 90s Angus, he plays the best friend.
[00:32:38] Yeah, the movie I for some reason in another lifetime, I believe Jackie liked and saw but she did not. You meet Sherman, he calls himself the Shermanator. And so I have a friend Tony v.
[00:32:50] Allah, my brother loosely very loosely look like the Shermanator. And so it's just he has red hair, red hair and freckles. Yeah. And so to this day, he like once in a while, I'll be like,
[00:33:04] oh, how's the Sherm doing? Like he still calls him the Shermanator. Oh my god. Well, I have a question for you. Yes. Whose party would you want to go to? Do you want to go to Monica's party in 200 cigarette? Would you want to go to the party
[00:33:24] and can't hardly wait hosted by the girl who throws a party? Or do you want to go to the party in 10 things I hate about you? What was that? bogey Loewenstein party? Yes. Or a Stifler party?
[00:33:41] Stifler but I would I want to go to Stifler's party at the lake house. Okay. Very specific. I think Oh, gosh, I would. bogey seems so much fun. I like the music better at bogey's party. That's fair. Yeah. And who doesn't want Brie? Nigel Bieber, Nigel Bieber
[00:34:08] in the Brie. That's fair. But also, you might have an opportunity to do Jennifer Coolidge if you show up at Stifler's party. I don't know. Danielle back then was more interested in Andrew
[00:34:22] Keegan just saying, leave me in a cult. It's fine. Lead me to your take me to your leader. So now we're at Stifler's party. And Oz has this revelation that he's gonna bring a college girl, because college girls are easy.
[00:34:49] Okay. My freshman year, I you couldn't even if you told me gun to my head, show me a senior in high school. Besides Ian, I wouldn't be able to do it. I wasn't talking to any high school senior.
[00:35:03] And for the record, we weren't having sex with the end either. Oh, no. No, cabana boy. No, no. But in smelt amazing. He smelled like he used to wear obsession for men. And that was my
[00:35:18] standard. Like after that of like, what do you do wear obsession for men? I don't want to talk to you like his pheromones or pH or whatever, mixed with obsession for men. He smelled so goddamn good
[00:35:31] all of the time. But he also was just like our little brother. We never looked at him like that. Love you, Ian. Not that he's gonna listen. We'll have to tell him to listen to this. We talked about you a lot in the American Pie episode.
[00:35:52] So it's typical Raider high school party Oz decides he's gonna bring a college girl because they're easy. Where also are we getting this false information that college women are easy
[00:36:04] because we see it again. We see it in can't hardly wait as well. Because I think that the thought processes in high school, you're not gonna have sex. There's always that thought like once you
[00:36:15] go to college, everyone's partying, everyone's having sex. Women are having sex. They're not home with their parents. They're more free. So I think that's the thought process is that the girls in high school are not having sex. So the girls in college are 100% having sex. That's the thought
[00:36:33] process. Boys are dumb. Yes. And Oz is even dumber because he's sitting in the car with a college girl getting ready to go into Stifler's party. And he literally just looks at her this, this lady,
[00:36:48] this adult lady and says, suck me beautiful. Well, they're at like, something point or like, you know, they're not even at his Stifler's house yet. They're just he takes her to a makeout spot
[00:37:03] or whatever. And you don't say that's not how you get a girl to go down on you. No, it's just that's not and she like laughs at him, which then he's like, you don't have to laugh at
[00:37:18] me. And so she was really nice about it. Like, hey, that's not gonna work. You got to do better. And so he's like, Well, I don't know what to do. So she tells him like, listen to to grow,
[00:37:30] talk to her the easiest fucking thing you could imagine. And so he's like, Oh, okay. And so she drops him off. And then while that's happening, Vicky and what's his Kevin are upstairs and
[00:37:47] she's got Vicky decides to go down on Kevin. Because he's he's saying that he's like frustrated with the fact that they haven't had sex. She wants him to say I love you. They're just not
[00:37:58] on the same page right now. But she's willing to go down on him and give him head. So there's that happening. But she does not swallow. No, she asked him when he's ready. At least he tells her
[00:38:11] and he releases in a beer cup or whatever which comes into play later. While that's happening. Jim is Jim is downstairs. He was with Kevin before they went upstairs. And he was talking about
[00:38:31] wanting to go talk to Nadia played by Shannon Elizabeth. And she's like from Czechoslovakia or something, I guess. I can't remember where she's from some Eastern European country supposedly.
[00:38:43] So Jim tries to go talk to her but he does that thing where people are laughing at a party and just walks up and starts laughing too. And it's just like, Hmm, what are you even laughing at?
[00:38:53] So they're all looking at him like he's crazy. So he does not. He does not do well there. He strikes out. Yeah, Jim was like Nadia kind of like looks at like, okay, at least he's trying. Yeah, you know?
[00:39:08] Yeah, there's a little glimmer of hope but Jim he strikes out at the same time Stifler goes to open the front door because there's people knocking and it's Michelle and all the band geeks. Did you spot
[00:39:21] Christina Million when Michelle's at the door? I did not. And so I was like, Oh, she because she looks so baby face. And I was like, Oh, she looks exactly like she was in the wood. So that is a
[00:39:33] thing that locks these two movies together besides the plot. So yeah, maybe they're in the same universe. Just Yeah, maybe she left. She left the 80s. And landed in 99. Yeah, sure. Sherman comes
[00:39:52] out of the bedroom with a lady and he's playing it off to the guys that like they were up like for hours. And he alludes to the fact that they had sex and that comes full circle later on. And then
[00:40:07] Stifler is trying to get it with like, a freshman or a sophomore, by the way, who plays Bianca Montgomery on All My Children, aka Erica Kane's daughter, aka Kendall. Sister younger sister, aka Susan Lucci. Sarah Michelle Gellar, you know, that's their that's who she plays. She played
[00:40:31] Bianca at the time on all my children. And I was very excited to see her continue sorry. You're fine. And so Stifler is like trying to convince her and like schmooze her and tell her
[00:40:44] the things she wants to hear. So she'll put out and Kevin's foamy beer. It has been left in that bedroom. And so at first, Stifler hands it to the girl and then he takes it back from her. Eventually
[00:40:58] it's like this whole scene of like, is someone gonna drink this fucking jizz? And then finally Stifler takes a big swig and is immediately grossed out. And then I love how Kevin asks him,
[00:41:15] how's the pale ale? But originally, the line was supposed to be how's the man chowder, which makes me vomit a little in my mouth? Well, well, Stifler obviously knew it was jizz. But Sean William Scott, what they did is they put
[00:41:36] egg whites in the beer to and it made him want to throw up legitimately. Yeah, well, I mean, it's a tad better, but still not ideal. Yeah, no, it is no bueno. I really felt
[00:41:55] that. I don't like eggs, so it makes it like a thousand times gross for me. So now it's the next day. The guy the guys are talking about their evening and Kevin's like, let's make a pact
[00:42:10] because apparently we have to make pacts in high school. We're going to get laid at prom. Because Stifler is having another party at his lake house. So that's where we're going to get
[00:42:22] laid. Also, I have to shout out the fact that Jon Chow is in this movie. He was 26 years old. So he was the oldest cast teenager cast member or whatever. Still looks damn good. If I get a
[00:42:39] shot with Jon Chow, I would absolutely take it. Lord Jesus. Love him up and down. So I always think that's really funny. And him and this other guy joke about Stifler's mom and call her a milf.
[00:42:55] Now they're not the movie wasn't the first time that term was used per se, I think someone else coined it. But it definitely is what made it popular and put it into the zeitgeist because we had never heard milf before. So thanks American Pie. Unlike the fuck.
[00:43:13] And they are talking about how Stifler's mom is a milf. Yes, which also comes full circle later on. Yes, that is definitely foreshadowing. The first act is just setting up a bunch of dominoes for the
[00:43:27] third act. So Oz heeds the college girls advice and he joins the choir and they're singing. I always cringed at their scene at that when they're singing because they're singing when they're singing because they don't sing well to me. I'm like, please make make make this stop.
[00:43:49] Please just end my suffering every time I cringe. But did you spot so Jon Chow is also in this group. But did you notice Eric Lively, aka Blake Lively's brother? No, he's in here. Yeah,
[00:44:06] he's the guy who wants the solo. Oh, yeah. Interesting. Yeah. Albert is his character. Same. Yeah, I was very excited. I looked nowhere but the foreground. I noticed no extras at all. Except for the band playing at the prom, which is a whole separate discussion. Yeah,
[00:44:31] I would love to talk about that. Because I have questions that we also see Jim's dad is trying to talk to him again and very lovingly he brings him all sorts of nudie magazines.
[00:44:45] And Jim's just like, please get out of my room, Dad. And so dad's trying to build those bridges make connections. And Jim is just completely embarrassed by the whole situation. At the
[00:44:57] same time, we find out Finch cannot shit at school. He has to go home 16 minute round trip. I think there must have been an incident because Stifler calls him shit brick. So I feel like something happened that traumatized him. But you know what, I definitely felt that like,
[00:45:18] if I can help it at work or public spaces, I really don't want like I find taking a dump to be a very personal thing. And I will poop anywhere, anyplace, anytime. Yeah, I do not have a shy colon at all.
[00:45:36] No, because I need the environment. I need the environment to be you need your poopery. I need any good smells. I need a good solid seat that I can sit you know, because I do what Finch does,
[00:45:50] which is lay the paper down so that and there's nothing that infuriates me more than when I lay the paper down. Everything's good. Well, that would kill me. But no, when I finally sit down
[00:46:04] and the seat is kind of broken. So I slide or the paper because the wind of my ass going down to the seat flies away and I'm like, Oh, Jesus. It's very traumatizing for me. I can't do it. No,
[00:46:26] I raw dog and public toilet seat. I don't care. I mean, I'll look to make sure there's it's not wet dirty or anything. But no, no duty parasites fear here. I Okay. Coming back. So his nickname isn't shit brick. It's a break. Because he takes a break.
[00:46:53] Never heard that. I and I you know what also when I saw the captions it said shit brick. Really? When I but I was watching it on off website. But I'm sure you're right. I always thought it was shit brick. But that makes
[00:47:10] way more sense because he always leaves to go take a dump. Yeah, so here's the state of everything. So Stifler is not in this like, packed, which they made it very clear that it's not a bet.
[00:47:23] Because this is more than money. Pact has bench. We don't know what he's doing the whole time you see all the guys doing their things to try to set this up. Finches literally pulling out his own
[00:47:35] fake little mini putt putt thing at school with his golf club. At the party, Kevin pissed off Vicki, because she heard him telling Jim that he's sick of blowjobs. So she's pissed at him. So he's
[00:47:51] spending a good amount of this the three weeks they have to prom begging Vicki to take him back. And Vicki, this is when Vicki has those conversations conversations with Jessica about
[00:48:00] like, should she have sex with him? And then she should learn how to pleasure herself first and all that other stuff. So he is like trying to figure it out. So he calls his older brother, who was
[00:48:13] played by Casey Affleck, which I never realized Casey Affleck was in this movie, which makes a whole lot of sense why Ben Affleck showed up to the premiere of this movie, and had like a really
[00:48:24] weird interaction with Tara Reid. I definitely tell you to go look that up because Ben Affleck is always on the fence for me because he does shit that I'm like, you're a skeevy. But then he does
[00:48:39] other things. I'm like, he's a good guy. I don't know where he lays for me. I know he's not probably 100% a good guy. Yeah, but yeah, I mean, if you have Jennifer Garner divorce you?
[00:48:56] Well, yeah. I don't know Jennifer Garner as much as I love her. She a little bit of a cheater herself. So I the karma that she's got, I can't I can't. I can't stick up for her because she stays
[00:49:12] sliding into new relationship. This is the longest one that I didn't see her like overlap. With Ben and the new guy she's with now. But yeah, Casey Affleck. Did you notice that he was in this
[00:49:22] movie before? Yeah, like I, as soon as I saw him, I'm like, Oh, yeah, he is in this movie. Like, it jogged my memory that he was there. I don't ever recall seeing him, but he's trash. Him for
[00:49:35] sure. I know he's trash. Yeah. But he is talking to Kevin and Kevin's like, Look, I want to pleasure my girlfriend. I want to know what to do because I don't know. So his brother tells him about this
[00:49:49] book that's been made passed down from generations and generations to one high school senior, who's who's worthy apparently, because Casey Affleck asked him like, Do you just want to get laid? He's like, No, I, I really love her. She essentially like she's always going down on me
[00:50:08] and I want to like reciprocate. And so he's like, Okay, you are worthy of knowing. And what leads him to that is that he goes to Jessica and he's like, Do you think she'll take
[00:50:18] me back? And she's like, Look, you gotta work on your game. You gotta work on giving her. Ooh, you know, yeah, orgasm, essentially. And so that's when he realizes because he's like,
[00:50:30] Oh, no, for sure. I've getting now. She's like, No, I love that. She's like, No, you've never done and never happened. So he finds the book and he starts to like learn from it. Jim is like, Oh,
[00:50:44] I'm shit out of luck. But then Nadia decides to talk to him one day after school and ask for his help. So he's getting ready for Nadia. And then we have Oz, like you said, who has signed up for the
[00:50:56] singing, the choir. And I love when the guys come in to watch his choir practice. And they're like making fun of him like, Why the hell are you here? And he's like, Well, these girls don't know
[00:51:07] me. And I have a chance which was quite smart of him if you think about it. And he was genuinely heeding the advice that he was given. Yeah. Do things are interested in listen to them, talk to
[00:51:21] them, have conversations, all of that. And like by the end, their relationship was the most like solid. Yeah, yeah. I mean, there's Jim and Michelle, but that doesn't come into play till
[00:51:34] later. Yeah. And I mean, in the next movie, like, Michelle kind of takes advantage, uses and abuses Jim, her personal playground. So let's, let's get to the scene that I hate, that Jim should have been
[00:51:54] a felon for broadcasting Nadia nude on the internet to everyone. Before that happened, the big one of the bigger scenes, the pie scene. So Jim comes home one day. So I think that comes
[00:52:11] before Nadia. Jim comes home and his mom has baked a pie. And she's left a note. And Jim decides, this is it. He puts his ears. He hears. Oh, so he puts his two fingers in and I was just like, it'd be like, why couldn't you just
[00:52:33] take a slice and do it on your slice? Like, yeah, why did you put your face met? Oh, so nasty. And then he gets up on the counter. Now I saw the unrated version. So I know the rated version,
[00:52:44] he takes the pie and like, slides his dick in, I guess, in front of him in front of him. But in I think in the unrated version, he like, gets on top of the counter and he's literally
[00:53:00] fucking up that pie. And his dad comes in and catches him and he's like, I just love the way he's like, Jim. And then afterwards, he's like, we'll just tell your mother we ate it.
[00:53:15] My mom would be pissed if she made a pie. And we just ate all of it and didn't get a slice. Right? No. Yeah. But it's way better. She thinks that then what actually happened. I think that
[00:53:27] would scar her for life. And the apple pie was actually purchased from Costco. Gotta love Costco baked goods. Except Costco, where is my all American chocolate cake? God damn it. I need to pull all of the times you have talked directly to Costco about the all American
[00:53:48] chocolate cake. And by the way, if you live in Florida, if there's a public spot you sign up for the public's rewards because they give you a free cake for your birthday. I got my red velvet cake yesterday.
[00:54:05] But it's no all American chocolate cake. Fuck no. Ain't nothing like it. Ain't nothing like it. So Jim is easily influenced. He's like, he's not even nerdy. He's just... He's dumb. And this is like really fucked up. Like first of all, if an idea comes from Stifler,
[00:54:25] it's not a good idea. But all the other guys agree with Stifler. They're at the library. And even Finch is like, you know, I hate the guy but he's right. So they convinced Jim that he
[00:54:38] should use a camera when Nadia is going to because Nadia said she's going to change after her ballet class. And I don't know why she didn't go in the bathroom? Question mark. But...
[00:54:49] And I know it's supposed to be like the thing that makes it okay, which it is not okay at all, in the slightest, is that Jim was only supposed to like email his friends the link. And he
[00:55:03] accidentally emails the entire school. Which is crazy. Like I don't even know how that's possible to do that. But so yeah, Nadia... And this is like so from a male perspective,
[00:55:15] because I just don't see any woman doing this. So it's just an excuse for Shannon Elizabeth to be naked in this movie. And then she's like touching herself. And so all the guys are like really into
[00:55:28] it. They're all watching. We see Blink 182 watching. We see Stifler and his younger brother because I guess his brother has the computer. Yeah. And I love because they're like,
[00:55:41] Jim go ask her if she needs a hand because Jim runs out of his house and down the street to Kevin's house where they're all watching it. And then they're like, you should go ask her if she
[00:55:51] needs a hand. And so he's getting ready to take off and Finch the get out of here like the way you crack me up. There are a couple of lines that are delivered in just such a perfect way in this
[00:56:07] movie where I'm like, they look red cream ahead. I just don't understand men because like I could understand them wanting to see Nadia naked. But why would you like you're encouraging your friend,
[00:56:18] but you're still going to watch you want to see your friend have sex with someone like is that hot? Like I thought that was gross. I don't it's this it's I didn't understand. Yeah.
[00:56:31] So Jim comes over back to the house and catches Nadia he says the stupid hand thing. She yells at him and then he's like, I'm sorry. And then she tells him to dance for her which I'm like,
[00:56:46] okay, I didn't mind Jim's dance. It was funny to me. And at one point he throws his shirt over the webcam because he knows his friends are watching. Right? And I think it's Sherman who calls Kevin
[00:57:01] and is like, Hey, your homeboy sent this to the entire school not just y'all so we're all fucking watching it. And then he's like, Okay, come here to me. And like he sits on the bed next to her
[00:57:14] and he like she just grabs his hand is like bringing up her thigh. And he got the the premature evacuation. The stormtroopers have left. I don't know why she gets mad at that, though.
[00:57:29] Because it's like, yeah, you know, at this age, that's something that happens. Like he'll be back up in business and no time like which he tells her Yeah, I got reserves. But then unfortunately,
[00:57:43] she guides his hand into her underwear and it happens again. And I love how everyone's just like not again. But apparently to get an R rating when Nadia is masturbating to his magazines,
[00:58:06] they had to cut right as she starts putting her hand down her panties. Just to keep it clean, I guess. I don't Yeah, interesting, but stupid at the same time. So also during this
[00:58:22] timeframe, I guess that happens a little before the scene. Does it? Yeah. Kevin gives Vicky the tongue tornado. And she doesn't have a lock on her door either. And her mom sends her dad up
[00:58:37] to go get her for dinner. And when she's like, I'm coming. I'm coming. I'm very proud of Kevin to be able to do the tornado. Correctly, although afterwards, he says it makes you dizzy.
[00:58:53] I'm like, No, the fuck it does not. Maybe you're dumb moving your tongue around. I don't know the concentration. I don't. But hey, I appreciated that they showed a man going down because they
[00:59:10] don't really do that often. No. And we need to have that more in movies. Let's we need male full frontal. And we need more scenes with men going down on women. Normalize oral for women.
[00:59:26] Thank you. Don't worry, darling has a good scene with Harry Styles and Florence Pugh where he was down on her. That was another movie I was like, I'm not gonna watch it. I enjoyed it. It just wasn't
[00:59:37] what I thought it was gonna be. But it was still enjoyable. So Nikki and Kevin are back on track, baby. They're back. So and Stifler he not Stifler. Sorry. Finch tells Kevin, no matter what you hear about me in these streets, just agree with it. And
[01:00:01] Kevin is confused. And as soon as Finch leaves to go for his bathroom break, a girl comes up to Kevin and like, Is it true? You've been in the locker room with him? Is it true that he's like
[01:00:14] hung like he's got a big wing? Yeah. And Kevin is like, I don't know he bathes with this shower shorts on but then he remembers what Finch said. He's like, Oh, yeah, yeah, it's true. So like
[01:00:27] every girl in the school is in a tizzy about Finch because there's a million different rumors going on. And Kevin doesn't know how the fuck this is happening. And it's insane.
[01:00:39] And also, one of the rumors is that he beat up Stifler. So Stifler is mad. Because he asked me as a girl to prom and she's like, I'm holding out for it. It's so stupid. Like,
[01:00:55] like this, I'm gonna fuck him over. So that's what he does. He puts xflax in his mochaccino. And Finch has no time for the trip home. He has to shit immediately. And he has never,
[01:01:13] I don't think he's ever used the bathroom at school. And so he doesn't even know, like, he's just in a hurry. He runs into a bathroom happens to be the girls bathroom.
[01:01:23] And there's girls in there talking about like, I hope Finch takes me to prom blah, blah, blah, just talking him up. And then the way he's like, can't hold it. And this is so hard not to explosively shit while these girls are in.
[01:01:41] But he does. And so this is a this scene. This, like bathroom scene is another one that we can add to the list because we saw it in Detroit Rock City. We had something similar and head
[01:01:54] over heels and the new guy, the new guy. I was gonna say final destination, but I think he's just using the bathroom. I don't think it's like crazy gross. But yeah, seems to be like,
[01:02:10] if we had a list of tropes that happen in these movies, like American Pie is just checking them Yeah. So now Finch is back to square one. No one wants to go to prom with him. So he goes solo.
[01:02:24] He takes it with stride. Like he doesn't seem like really mad about it. He's like, Okay, yeah. And then we also find out Nadia's I'm just gonna say foster family, or sponsored. Yeah, her sponsor family sent her back to the Czech Republic.
[01:02:40] I just think it's crazy. Like, I would have loved to seen for Nadia to like yell at Jim to say awful that was as crazy to me that she's totally fine with Jim doing that. Yeah. I don't know, maybe like in in the writer's mind, it's like, Oh,
[01:02:57] women in Europe are way more open with their sexuality. And it's not as big of a deal. And I know you see like boobs and Bush sometimes on TV there. So maybe like, that's what they were going
[01:03:10] Yeah, but still kind of fucked up. But yeah, I hear what you're saying. So Jim is back in square one as well. And finally, like, he sees Michelle in class and he's just like, Hey, you want to go to prom with me? And she's like, Yeah, sure.
[01:03:28] Mainly because she's the only person not making fun of him about the scenario. And she, she alludes that she's she didn't see what happened. Like she didn't watch it. So he's just like, excited that someone isn't like, he's not the laughingstock with someone.
[01:03:44] So yeah, like fine. But all this bitch talks about is band camp, like, one time a band camp. And I got into a really bad habit in high school. And I think it was
[01:03:56] before this movie came out, which just is a testament to how teenage girls talked in the 90s. But like, I would start every sentence with like one time. And so after this movie came out, I couldn't like I very quickly unlearned.
[01:04:19] So now Jim has a date. But Oz is having issues with Heather, because Heather went to his lacrosse game and bravely asked him to go to prom. And he says yes, but then she like lingers and watches
[01:04:35] like Stifler making fun and like, you know, nasty things that boys joke around about high fiving him or whatever. And Oz is really not partaking, but he's also not telling them to like, stop and say
[01:04:47] no. Yeah. So Heather's like, changed my mind. We're done though. But then in choir practice, Heather's song that she's singing is not very strong. And so the teacher's like, I want to layer this with another voice. Let's make this a duet. Another shitty voice.
[01:05:10] Let's have two shitty voices and see if it gets any better. So Oz, like volunteers, I volunteer as tribute to sing at whatever finals or I don't know what competition they're doing. But then he realizes that his lacrosse playoffs or championship or whatever, are the same time
[01:05:33] as the finals. And so he tells Heather and she's just like, whatever, like do whatever. I don't care. And so when he's at that game, he kind of is thinking about how much he really likes her.
[01:05:46] And so he blows off the second half of the game and shows up and disappoints Blake Lively, or Blake Lively's brother. He's there to do his duet with Heather.
[01:05:58] Yeah, he was very upset. But I do love that Kevin and Jim are at the lacrosse game. Which by the way, Chris Klein and Sean William Scott are horrible at lacrosse like they could not pick
[01:06:14] it up. So they had doubles for them to do the scenes of playing. So Kevin and Jim leave the game they know automatically when Oz runs off that he's going to the show. So they run and
[01:06:28] they go and see him which I think is so sweet and supportive that they go and do that, you know. And I guess they do well. I don't know what happens but they have a great time. So him and
[01:06:37] Heather are back on. Right before that Kevin and Vicky also get into like another little spat. Yeah, yeah. Because Vicky's like, I want to express ourselves in other ways. And Kevin's like, yeah, we're gonna bone and Vicky's like, I love you now you say it and Kevin's like
[01:07:01] disappointed and she's like, super frustrated with him. But then she talks to Jessica again. And this is when she's kind of talking herself into having sex with Kevin at prom like it's gonna make everything better. I think what she's what logically what she thinks is like, okay,
[01:07:19] well, here's this guy that I am I do love and I want to have sex with him. And it's better than when I go to college and then I have sex with some random guy. So I might as well just do it.
[01:07:31] And Jessica's like, yeah, girl, just do it like Jessica don't care at this point. But she just kind of repeats everything Vicky says. And so Vicky says to Kevin in class, hey, let's do it
[01:07:43] at prom. So then all of a sudden what shifts is that Kevin now feels a lot of pressure. Like now that it's going to possibly happen. Plus he knows that Vicky wants him to say I love you and he just
[01:07:55] doesn't want to be inauthentic about it. He doesn't want to just say it for the sake of it. So I think he's stressing about that. And you know, then you see the guys they go get their
[01:08:04] tuxes and all that stuff. Of course, Jim gets this fucking powder powder blue 70s like outfit I don't know it. I love that Oz is like nah, shaking his head like no and he still does it
[01:08:22] or whatever. And when I don't know if it's when they get to prom or I think it's when they're at prom they have a conversation the four of them at this point and Jim just like goes off on Kevin
[01:08:35] because he feels like he's just putting so much pressure on the set. He's like I don't even like it anymore. I don't even want to do it. And it has a lot more to do with Kevin's anxieties of
[01:08:45] being scared about taking that step with Vicky. And then Oz is like, you know what, I really like Heather I don't even give a shit about the sex part. And Finch is like whatever.
[01:08:59] And then Jessica comes up to Finch and like apologizes that he didn't that their plan didn't work out because he had paid her to start all those rumors. Right. And so she buys him a
[01:09:10] flask not with all the money but with some of the money. She got really nice earrings and I love a girl who can accessorize properly. I love also that in the beginning of the prom she is wearing
[01:09:22] headphones and listening to her home music. Yeah, because the band that they have playing is trash. I will 100% always say I prefer a DJ than a band. Yeah, all the time like weddings parties. Unless that band is Save Ferris and 10 Things I Hate About You.
[01:09:39] I would just want to see them in concert. I don't want them at my wedding or birthday party or prom like yeah, because my array of music the things that I want to hear
[01:09:52] might not be yeah, it might not be their style. So no, I hate it. I hate cover bands. Whatever this band is the guy is wearing a turban. It's bad. I don't know what this is.
[01:10:07] There's gold like applique on his jacket, a giant feather across his turban. I just don't and I don't remember. Remember like this scene? Like I don't either. I must have blocked it out of my memory, especially because when we get so many iconic prom moments where it's like
[01:10:32] the dancing and she's all that or Save Ferris and Letters to Cleo at 10 Things I Hate About You for and like even Mighty Mighty Boss Tones and Clueless like we get these great bands and you
[01:10:43] had Blink-182. Even Idle Hands got the offspring at the dance. Right. You already have Blink-182. Why not have them perform? Yes. Instead we get this guy Turban Man. Oh, I was so disappointed. So before prom's over someone is talking to Not Cherry Appley about Sherman sleeping with Sherman
[01:11:09] and she's like no no we just talked all night about how he's never had sex. Like she gets up on stage and was like I want to clear this up. We have never had sex. He tried
[01:11:21] to do it with a grapefruit and oh by the way when he gets embarrassed or like nervous he pees his pants sometimes and we just see Sherman swaling himself. Oh, it's embarrassing. Oh, but he shouldn't
[01:11:36] have started that rumor at all. You get what you get. I did find an oopsies in the movie from prom. During the prom scene there's a moment when the drummer taps on his hat but when the sound comes
[01:11:50] out it sounds a whole lot like a crash cymbal so now I have to go back and listen. Whoopsie. Oh, also when Oz when he first joins the singing class they said there's a scene in the movie
[01:12:09] where Oz goes from the parking lot to the library and back to singing in the classroom. During this period his shirt changes twice. Oh well you know. Like you do Oz. Like you do. So now we're at Stifler's
[01:12:24] party and Vicky and Kevin are like are gonna have sex because Vicky decided to tell him in the middle of class that she wanted to have sex after prom and so they find an empty bedroom. He has put stuff
[01:12:42] in the drawer it seems. He's got some candles and shit and then Stifler's little brother bounces out of the closet, starts jumping on the bed and starts calling them fuckers and they're like just laughing
[01:12:55] at him like because he's like you guys are gonna fuck. I think there's a you know there's like eight or nine American Pie movies and I think there's one with Stifler's brother but it's played by
[01:13:09] a different actor which kind of sucks. Yeah so now they have the most vanilla awkward sex like there's no romance. It's very transactional like what position do you want to be in? Go slow and then it just looks uncomfortable the whole time which is a lot of people's
[01:13:33] experiences first. Yeah their experience Vicky and Kevin's is so like the first time experience with a guy who it's his first time like awkward and you can see on Vicky's face that she does not
[01:13:50] like it which parallels very much to the Wood when they first have sex. Him and Alicia is it? Yeah I think it's her name so go ahead sorry. But then you also see on the other hand you see Oz and Heather
[01:14:08] and they're just kind of out on the dock. Yeah in God's country and Oz says the day after like they didn't have sex but it's very like loving and sensual and just getting to know each other
[01:14:23] intimately. Oz has better game than Kevin. 100% It's very sweet I love them as a couple. Yeah and then Jim welcome to the Thunderdome because Michelle takes him she's like look let me just
[01:14:44] tell you what are we gonna bone? They're on the couch she's telling all her camp stories she's like you know it's weird you don't have stories he's like well let me tell you about this time
[01:14:53] that Kevin just in a cup and sip their drink and so she's like then she's telling more stories about band camp and then she's like and then I took a flute and put it in my pussy and Jim spits
[01:15:05] out his beer he's like what? She was like yeah a lot of freak you Nick shit happens at band camp and then from there she's like are we gonna bone or what so she's like this is only like
[01:15:18] she reveals that she knew about the whole Nadia thing and she tells uh-huh correct me if I'm wrong but like the band people at our school same they were the freakiest ones same I was friends with a
[01:15:34] lot of people in band and let me tell you their little camps their little off-site stuff are sleepovers real crazy shit was going down don't fuck around with them don't sleep on the band
[01:15:51] and even when I was in college the band was like a whole nother thing it's like a cult I don't know I mean it was fam you like yeah but there was a lot of shit going on with the band I was like yo
[01:16:04] y'all are another breed over here this is you know you gotta go live a life after this y'all need to I do like that you know she when she comes clean about the whole situation
[01:16:17] that she's like let's do this and then she becomes like full-on dominatrix with him now here are here's a funny story Jason Biggs had requested a body double for his sex scene I think
[01:16:30] and the body double comes in comes on set and has an eight inch scar across his stomach that wasn't there before and they're like what the fuck you and was immediately fired like you've
[01:16:50] got to go bro like that's the whole point is in my mind it's like this guy that walks in shirtless with this giant scar like with a cigarette and a can of beer like I'm ready for my scene
[01:17:04] I just I cracked up so hard when I read that because like what the fuck and the scene where you know they are having sex and Michelle like kind of she like grabs him and throws him on the
[01:17:21] bed and she's like what's my name bitch say my name that was all improv by Allison Hannigan I love it yeah hilarious a girl who knows what she wants yeah say my name say my name
[01:17:42] me Jacob and so and now we get to the piece de resistance of the end act Finch is very debonair in his Indiana Jones knockoff white tux jacket black slacks and he goes into the game room which is like downstairs and there's stepfather's mom just hanging out
[01:18:08] staying out of the way right and so they're just so young it's it's Jennifer Coolidge so much and he's just like he gets more and more like he in his own mind he is James Bond in this right
[01:18:24] and he's just like turning on the swank and the like air of sophistication and she's just like yeah I bite I'll bite are you trying to seduce me and he's like sure when we were younger
[01:18:43] I thought this was hilarious now I'm like so grossed out by him yeah because if it was the opposite if it was a the not a mom but a dad with a girl I would be very skeeved out like this boy
[01:18:59] is the same age as your son at a party that your son is at and is his friend and she very much knows it because she says she likes her scotch aged 18 years right which is supposed to be like
[01:19:15] the green flag to the audience that Finch is 18 but we have watched this whole movie and realized seeing how dumb he is and how immature a child yeah so it's it's skeevy to me but they bone on the pool table yes and then the next morning
[01:19:37] Sean William Scott's reaction and his physicality when he opens the door and is like mom shit break and then he faints it is so fucking perfect but just to let it be known that that
[01:19:58] Stifler does get his revenge because at the reunion he meets Finch's mom played by Rebecca DeMornay I think that's how you say her name and sleeps with her full circle moment yeah
[01:20:13] and then we see the guys back at the pizzeria the next day and they talk about oh Kevin and Vicky kind of agree to just be friends like the long distance thing isn't gonna work out
[01:20:26] right and I think where Oz and Heather are going it's close by so they're gonna try and like work on things because they'll be in the same area so the next day they just talk about how
[01:20:38] like high school is wrapping up and on to the next step of our lives type thing oh yeah and also Michelle just left Jim he wakes up with a floaty in the bed with him and he's very excited
[01:20:50] that he was been used by her yeah good for you Jim so Jim says I think he admits that he had sex Kevin says he had sex Oz doesn't divulge he says nothing happened and Finch says I believe older
[01:21:10] women are just so much better I haven't had any other experience but yeah like this is accurate yeah so um and then the movie ends with Jim's dad walking in on him as he's dancing for Nadia
[01:21:27] so they're having a little Skype session and I like his dad just walks out and then he starts dancing but what grosses me out is that he calls his wife as if they're about to do it and I'm like
[01:21:37] nasty yeah gross and that is American Pie yeah we did it so I love how many things had well I don't love because I would love to see an unrated version
[01:21:51] like even more unrated version yeah but they did have to change quite a few things to keep it R-rated like they at the in the beginning scene there was dirtier dialogue the line ride me pony
[01:22:05] was originally supposed to be blow your wad on my tits oh wow and then the line spank my hairy ass was originally play with my hairy balls I don't see that being any different no but there's like
[01:22:19] a thing about balls being able to say balls like whoever made up the rules are it's crazy like you can only say vagina like once or twice you know why here's my film school education for you
[01:22:35] uh the MPAA is self-governed so they make up the rules that they then enforce and it's very arbitrary and they probably change the rules all the time if people are probably paying them off or if they're members themselves yeah so stupid interesting enough with some fun
[01:22:54] facts Jim's erection in the opening scene was created by a cooked sausage from the morning's breakfast it was stuck on a pencil and wrapped in an aluminum foil it was still warm when it was
[01:23:05] placed between Jason Biggs legs Biggs was given he was given the choice between medium and large to which he chose the latter he also ate the sausage right after filming the scene
[01:23:16] I love that he believed that he had a large sausage he didn't let food go to waste so it's a win-win for everyone yeah when Kevin is looking through the sex bible the shots of the pages had
[01:23:28] to be edited to include less raunchy illustrations oh god the scene where Kevin goes down on Vicky was quote unquote a little too long so some of her moaning had to be cut it's not a short
[01:23:42] experience if you're doing it right just saying yeah I want to see the raunchy cut I want to see all of the things that they had to cut out to make it an R-rated movie please and thank you
[01:23:56] the original screenplay was written in just six weeks and when submitting his script to the studio's screenwriter Adam Hertz titled it untitled teenage sex comedy that can be made for under 10 million which studio readers will likely hate but I think you will love and then later
[01:24:20] changed to East Grand Rapids high then East Great Falls high then Great Falls and then finally American Pie I don't know why American Pie wasn't the first thought that came to mind but glad they
[01:24:37] got there eventually on a more sullen note the alleged inspiration for Stifler was arrested for murder Brian Krebs was a high school classmate of Adam Hertz who according to the police fatally stabbed someone in a bar fight in 2012 while Hertz didn't confirm the connection the New York
[01:24:55] Broward the New Times Broward Palm Beach reported that two sources claimed Krebs was Hertz's inspiration for Stifler well we could see Stifler being crazy yeah or being drunk yeah and as we were talking about ratings the film was originally rated NC-17 by the MPAA it took three resubmissions
[01:25:20] to obtain an R rating a few scenes had to be edited and trimmed to achieve the rating the main reason for the NC-17 decision was the infamous pie scene in the original cut Jim did
[01:25:37] four thrusts into the pastry too many for an R the filmmakers in the MPAA wound up settling on two thrusts again they be making rules up well before we get into the ratings just a reminder
[01:25:55] that you should follow us if you haven't already on social we are at no more late fees on instagram facebook tiktok twitter youtube and threads and let's get into our ratings Jackie what's your
[01:26:08] current day reading of American Pie I would buy it again like I had no qualms about purchasing this movie as 42 year old Jackie it just it holds so much nostalgia and I can recognize the things that
[01:26:24] are completely wrong with it and like not okay and but at the same time it's a really good story and it's really well acted for the most part I just I enjoy it I was yeah I was very surprised
[01:26:42] at how much it held up for me and it made me even more upset about The Wood because I love that movie so much and I just feel like gosh this would have been so on par or even better if it just didn't
[01:26:54] have the back and forth that we talked about like going from past to present if it just focused on the past because it was just so much fun and I just feel like American Pie did a lot of the stuff
[01:27:04] we complained about it right so yeah and like you said the only big thing that I just found really offensive was the videotaping of Nadia without her consent I know that at that time it was
[01:27:20] like the internet was totally different but still like taking naked photos of someone without their permission was it's not okay but other than that I laughed I had a really good time I'm
[01:27:33] shocked I thought when we did this movie I was gonna be tearing it apart I really really did but it had so much heart it was really nice to see male friendships at the forefront people
[01:27:45] that the boys were you know very respectful for each other yeah um so yeah I think I would buy it again I'm very I very shocked is the American Pie somehow no more late feast 2024 pick it is
[01:28:02] I didn't see that coming it wasn't on my bingo card for sure not on mine either but here we are look at us just look at us who would have thought I don't know and you know it's not even this
[01:28:19] like there's nostalgia obviously but it's not that much for me like yeah I know I didn't watch this movie a million times over like on my own but yeah it just held up well if you have feelings
[01:28:34] memories about watching American Pie hit us up at our quick drop 909-606-1NMLF 909-601-6653 Twatta said the twitters Hema said threads and you can be featured on a future episode
[01:28:51] oh I think we have one from Nick hey what's up no more late feast it's Nick driving home and man like I didn't realize until y'all were talking about it much uh like Danielle said like George you just gotta like take a nap bro because like the original
[01:29:12] trilogy and like the people trilogy um like they really do kind of go into that whole like Star Wars for kids and it's just like the bad guys are fascist and the good guys are like democratic
[01:29:24] they're just like you know unity and everyone it's like good versus evil we get it like Lucas like weirdly like because here's what I was thinking of like the the level of political intrigue
[01:29:38] of these like first two movies is so deep like in the first one like the trade federation is setting up like a like a blockade and an embargo to make sure the food like gets on board or kind
[01:29:49] of like extort economic power out of the planet in the middle like that like that's so like I don't know like this and we're like in the second one it's like that whole thing about like Obi-Wan going
[01:30:00] to Kamino and learning that like like a Jedi was involved in the creation of this clone army like we're supposed to be this very transparent democratic republic and but there's some kind
[01:30:11] of like sneaky stage secret shit where somebody is like like a Jedi is involved in creating this army and like no like it is just a few like the political intrigue of like a democratic republic
[01:30:24] creating the secret army like who's doing this and what are they doing it for like there is that's awesome but the problem is that Lucas tried to have this like deep political intrigue in this
[01:30:36] in a children's movie and then had to water it down to the point where it makes no sense like I'm just bro Lucas take a nap like go back to doing what you do best like let's get bad guys
[01:30:48] and good guys let's get the blazer sword battles let's like have some love and romance and then like like just just do it keep it simple bro keep it simple yes doing too much man take a nap for real
[01:31:04] yeah I like I said why did we I get why the seek the prequels maybe had to build all that stuff to explain the political state that we were in in the original movies I get that but like you can't do it
[01:31:23] all you can't have all these layers and stuff in it and you're also trying to make a kids movie like make it very simple no evil good fights making out marriage kids the end don't try to
[01:31:45] it's above everyone's pay grade my dude yeah you know I like the easter eggs and stuff for like maybe you're going to a kids movie essentially but as an adult you get to see all those layers
[01:31:56] and you can pull the pull back the layers of the onion but like you have no plot yeah you have had to water it down to a point where there's no plot left there's pieces and no one's allowed to
[01:32:12] improv and you're writing for love stories as shit and so it's just like why do these people like each other it's weird I again leah and han only work because it was those actors that's it
[01:32:28] it was not the writing and also like I said it was because you have these little brief moments in the midst of like all this other shit happening we do not have like this separate situation and I feel
[01:32:41] like Carrie Fisher would probably talk back to Lucas and say like yeah that's dumb like why are we doing that leah would never do that where I don't know how much she would fight though because
[01:32:53] girl wasn't wearing a bra he told her there's no underwear in space so but at the same time I just because she's such a good script writer that I feel like she would be like what is the motivation
[01:33:05] at least ask the question but she had her hands on these scripts she helped with these these prequels which means they were worse you can only polish up a turd so much that's true that's very very true well make sure to come back
[01:33:26] and join us next week as we stay classy with the 2004 comedy anchorman and as always be kind and rewind
