We got a Ko-Fi donation this week to finish out a (sort of) trilogy from our listener David. At the beginning of this year, he laid out three actors for him to select movies for us to watch, and we've reached the last one: Stanley Tucci in UNDERCOVER BLUES! The 1993 comedy from the director of FOOTLOOSE which stars Kathleen Turner, Dennis Quaid, and Tucci as Muerte... or is it Morty?
[00:00:02] Let's get together, talk about the movies that we saw this week We'll have discussions, talk film news, we'll laugh a lot and act like geeks Sometimes we'll have a guest or two, sometimes it's just the two of us Let's crack some jokes and tell some folks to come along and hang with us Mike and Chosen Wys
[00:00:27] Hello and welcome to the podcast that is actually a pair of undercover secret agents just trying to enjoy our vacation. It's Mike and Mike Go to the Movies I'm Mike Smith and joining me as always is someone who took his child to a knife fight Mike DiCruccio How'd you do today Mike? I'm doing great. I noticed you didn't say a married couple with a new baby that are podcasting together. So okay, you know, message received. I understand Yeah It's a subtle distinction, but it was certainly a clear one Yes Going on Mike. How you been?
[00:00:56] I've been good. I've been back into reading in a big way again. I I started a new book yesterday and I'm almost done This will be the first time I've ever read a book in 24 hours. So I'm like Really? Okay Yeah, blown away. Check out a violent masterpiece by Jordan Harper Okay That's the guy who wrote the book She Rides Shotgun, which was a Taron Egerton movie last year If you remember, I talked about that Yeah, that sounds familiar. Yes Yeah, it's like a crime thing And yeah, violent masterpiece. It's a It's a, you know, LA noir
[00:01:24] But like for the modern times, it's really fucked up and weird and crazy Cool So read books is what I'm saying All right. With a title like a violent masterpiece, you're really calling your shot on that Yeah It's pretty sick I forget what podcast he was on Some movie podcast And he was talking about that That's from the review of Oh, I forget It's a movie Review of a movie Like a poster pull quote from some other like 50s movie And he was like, that's the coolest shit I've ever heard And he pulled that
[00:01:54] He took that as a title Nice Anyway, it's good stuff Very cool Very cool Nice, yeah Reading books Great Now that the baseball season's finally winded down I have a little more time on my hands And A, getting back into movies in a big way But B, would like to get back into books in a big way Yeah Go get a library card Just to have it I have a library card Hell yeah I've had one for a while And I was mostly using it to watch Canopy And now my library doesn't have Canopy anymore No And I'm mad about it You should be mad about it
[00:02:22] I went to Canopy to watch something And then just suddenly I couldn't access it anymore Yeah And I was like trying to log in my library card Like re-log in Nothing was working And then I went to my library social media And the first post I see is We don't have Canopy anymore That's incredible They knew Okay It happened like the day before That like it just Oh my god Which was a bummer I did start reading like before the summer Started Do Android Dream of Electric Sheep Oh yeah The Phil K. Dick book That Blade Runner was based on Because Blade Runner 2099
[00:02:51] The Michelle Yeoh Blade Runner series On Amazon Is coming out in a few months And so I wanted to be like prepared for it And I got like halfway through it And I haven't finished it So I'm hoping to pick that back up again And get back into it And maybe re-watch Blade Runner And Blade Runner 2049 In the near future as well Yeah yeah That'll be fun I'm excited to cover At least one episode of that On The Complete Works Yeah I'm excited to see A season of a new TV show Happen on Amazon Prime And then immediately get cancelled Yeah Unless it's Reacher Unless you're Reacher That's how it works
[00:03:20] Yeah no Spider Noir recently Was cancelled after one season Mike I don't know if you saw that Yes I did hear that Yeah Which of course we covered The first two episodes of On The Complete Works A show which I really liked And I do plan on Finishing it out I again Haven't had the time To go back and watch The remaining six episodes So maybe Because I didn't watch them Specifically The show was cancelled The algorithm was like Yep If they couldn't get The Nicolas Cage Spider-Man guy To watch all the episodes Of this show There's no hope Let's pack it in Yeah shut it down
[00:03:50] I shouldn't have time I was busy this summer But I do plan on Finishing out that season Because I did have A lot of fun with it Good I'm glad Yeah I didn't watch More than the two episodes But I probably would have At some point Yeah exactly In any case We're not talking about Anything airing on Amazon Prime today True In fact today We're talking about Something that came out Before Amazon Prime Existed You know Like most things In the 20th century What a life That would have been You know Oh man We have to return We have to go back Yes No today
[00:04:19] It's a Kofi donation Episode Mike This is an episode That you know One of our listeners David Submitted $50 on Kofi And got And picked a movie For us to talk about Yes Which anybody can do By the way Go to our Kofi page Which is Mike D Kofi.com Slash Mike and Mike Pods And yeah You can get on there $50 Pick a movie Give us a movie Tell us what you want us to watch We actually have a couple other ones In the pipeline coming up soon Yeah we've got a couple of donations recently Which is exciting Yeah very exciting And yeah David wanted to Finish out the trilogy If you remember
[00:04:49] Way back when To watch Condor Man Was the first movie Before we knew that was the movie He gave us a choice Here's three actors Which actor do you want to watch a movie from That's right And for Condor Man We had picked Oliver Reed Oliver Reed Yes So yeah It was a choice Between Oliver Reed Kirk Douglas And Stanley Tucci Were the three actors That David kind of Laid out for us As like okay This is the person You gotta pick the actor And then I'll pick the movie And so We ended up picking Oliver Reed I think because we were both like
[00:05:18] We're a little bit less familiar With that filmography Than the other two guys So we're like Let's see what we got Yeah And we ended up watching Condor Man For that Oliver Reed episode And I at least thought Condor Man Was pretty fun I had a good time with it Yeah Yeah I remember not being Super taken with it But I don't really remember Not liking it Or like having a I think Having a bad time Maybe I was bored I don't really actually remember My reaction to it Yeah But in any case So Condor Man was the first episode And then a few months later David came back with another donation And was like Hey we're following this up We're now doing the Kirk Douglas movie
[00:05:47] And the Kirk Douglas movie Was 1979's The Villain Which was Was this a Sam Peckinpah movie Is that Am I crazy No it's the No The Convoy was a Sam Peckinpah movie That was Convoy No the villain was The stuntman Hal Needham Yeah Hal Needham Who had directed The stunt driver And Smoking the Bandit And that stuff Not the stunt driver The stunt man He was a stunt man But I have no idea what He was a stunt man And he directed a movie That I really liked That I had just watched Before the villain Now I'm blanking on What it was called I think it was called The stuntman And Burnt Reynolds was in it
[00:06:17] And Burnt Reynolds was in it And it ruled And now I have to look it up Yeah you were so hyped You were like A Hal Needham joint I just watched A Hal Needham joint And it's my favorite movie Of all time And now you don't remember it Oh no Hooper Hooper Yeah no Hooper rules People should watch Hooper Yeah I can't believe I thought it was called The stuntman I mean It's about a stuntman It makes sense But yeah no Hooper is what I'm thinking of And yeah So Hal Needham Directed the villain With Kirk Douglas in it Which It was less good Than Hooper I think it's fair to say Right Mike? Sure
[00:06:47] Well I never saw Hooper But yeah I didn't really Enjoy the villain much I thought it was a little I mean it was a live action Looney Tunes Literally Right and that's something That I think should appeal To me greatly I'm a huge Looney Tunes guy And that movie specifically Is like very much live action Roadrunner and Coyote Which now you can just watch Coyote vs Acme It's out there now Hey yeah It exists Which is very cool But yeah Kirk It's riffing on old Looney Tunes cartoons And I think there's maybe like Five minutes of pretty good comedy In that 90 minute movie Who's the
[00:07:16] Who's like the himbo guy In that Schwarzenegger It's Schwarzenegger Yeah that's right It's Kirk Douglas Arnold Schwarzenegger And Anne Margaret Are like the main stars Of the villain Crazy So I'm glad I saw it Just as of like What a weird curiosity This movie is Yeah yeah But definitely didn't hit for us In the same way Certainly didn't hit as much As Condor Man Which I liked quite a bit Sure So yeah We finished that out And then I think we were both Like well eventually David's gonna get around To finishing out the trilogy And pick a Stanley Tucci movie for us And that's what happened And lo and behold That is what happened
[00:07:46] And so David has selected A Stanley Tucci movie For us to watch He paid $50 And so we had to watch Undercover Blues In 1985 They went into Russia In 1991 They went into Iraq And in 1993 They went into Retirement What line are you in? Brain surgery I'm an airline pilot I'm an electro-lux salesman Actually We're in espionage
[00:08:15] Were in espionage And that's the truth But their past We've got this situation The answer is no Keeps coming back To haunt them Get copies of this made And distributed everywhere Jefferson Blue Has to become a prisoner Don't make any sudden moves Why not? Is there a bee on me? Alright That was from the trailer For Undercover Blues From 1993 Directed by Herbert Ross Featuring Stanley Tucci Who is like kind of a Recurring supporting antagonist Throughout the movie
[00:08:44] A comic foil If you will A Wile E. Coyote If you will Truly Yeah absolutely For the film's main characters Who are played by Dennis Quaid And Kathleen Turner Who are a couple of spies Who are in fact A married couple Who recently had a baby And are on maternity leave But get roped into One more job Yes One last job A classic setup Yes And so They're the two main characters A couple of people Popping up in this movie Include Tom Arnold Is in this Larry Miller Who was the principal In Max Keeble's Big Move
[00:09:13] He's also in Why does that keep coming up? It's a foundational text From Mike Smith, Mike And so any It clearly was Yeah Any connection I can bring To Max Keeble's Big Move I'm gonna bring it in Oh my god He was also in 10 Things I Hate About You He's like the principal I think Or he's one of the teachers Or something In 10 Things I Hate About You Or no He's the dad He's in there somewhere He's an adult In 10 Things I Hate About You He's an adult In 10 Things I Hate About You He's also in The Princess Diaries He's like The guy who gives her A dress or something
[00:09:43] Sure So yeah He pops up in a lot of stuff He's in Mad About You And all that Oh that guy Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah It clicked Mad About You Was your reference point? No It was honestly The Princess Diaries Okay Yeah Fair enough But yeah Larry Miller's in this Like we mentioned Tom Arnold's in this Also Richard Jenkins Popes up in this For a little bit Yeah Which is very fun To see him Dave Chappelle Has a very small role In this movie as well You know All that good stuff So yeah
[00:10:12] There's some fun people Popping up I mean I'm not gonna lump in Dave Chappelle With fun people But there are some fun People coming up In Undercover Blues Sure Sure Yeah It is a pretty You know Early 90s Stacked Like character actors Going on You know Yeah Absolutely So Undercover Blues A kind of action comedy Crime movie Directed by Herbert Ross Who also directed Footloose You know In the 80s You know He directed You know A journeyman director Who did a bunch of stuff But Footloose Is kind of the big one He also did The Goodbye Girl Pennies from Heaven Steel Magnolias
[00:10:42] As well That's another That's a pretty big one Yeah Pretty big one This is actually His second to last film Wow As a director Yeah His last film Was Boys on the Side With Whoopi Goldberg Oh I've heard of that movie At least Yeah There you go But yeah Undercover Blues Came out in 1993 And did not get great reviews When it was released 37% on Rotten Tomatoes But Mike D What were you expecting From this film And what are your overall thoughts On Undercover Blues Yeah well I was going in ready For the kind of actor Sort of so to speak
[00:11:11] That we were watching it for You know Stanley Tucci To have a like Smaller role That maybe you would think You're like Oh we're going to watch A Stanley Tucci movie Or just the same way Yeah Although Kirk Douglas Is the main character In the villain He's the titular villain Yeah He's the titular villain Yeah So I guess that kind of Throws off the thing But Oliver Reed was You know A pretty small role Even though he is The villain in that also And I guess Stanley Tucci is one of The villains in this movie So I guess that's The thematic through line Between these three films That they're all Playing villains In these movies They're all the villain roles But also just Through the kind of timing
[00:11:40] Of the Stanley Tucci career Like I think this is Fairly early on Sure At least for His current cultural impact Or something You know He wasn't the He's in that cardinal movie What's that Conclave Conclave right He's one of the cardinals Yeah he's not in the Conclave yet Yeah exactly But yeah Stanley Tucci had been around For a while at this point Like he'd been He'd been making movies Like I think for like Ten years up at this point Yeah But like you know He was definitely not Somebody who was like Super well known I think you know Recently I think this year 93
[00:12:10] It's Undercover Blues But then he's also In The Pelican Brief I was gonna say The Pelican Brief Yeah Which we talked about On a Mike Makes Mike Watch I think last year And yeah So you know He's kind of Prominently featured in that And he starts popping up And stuff like He's in It Could Happen to You The Nicolas Cage movie Right Yeah You know Other stuff He's in the original Beethoven as well So he's popping up In like some Some major movies That are popping up Kiss of Death Another Nicolas Cage movie In 95 So you know And then The Day Trippers Is really like You know I feel like That's like a big Like indie breakout Sort of for him Yeah
[00:12:40] He's been around For a while And then gets kind of A major A bigger role In The Day Trippers Yeah I don't remember The name of the movie But I've heard it Randomly come up Like one of those Things like Where like I've never heard Of this before And then it comes up A couple times On multiple podcasts So I'm like Has just people Always been talking About this movie And I can't remember The name of it But it's him and Tony Shalhoub And they play Brothers that run An Italian restaurant Okay And it sounds incredible And it seems like It's an amazing movie So I don't remember When that is Or I feel like It's a mid 90s Indie movie It's called Big Night
[00:13:10] Big Night That's the one Big Night 96 Yep 96 Yeah So it seems like That's also a pretty Major indie breakout Kind of like You know It's the two of them It's like a two-hander It seems But then I feel like What's I mean you know Of course Devil Wears Prada The Hunger Games Movies All that stuff So I feel like He kind of blows up In a big way Stanley Tucci's just been Like one of our Like our best guys For a long time Yeah I think so Always an incredibly Reliable supporting presence You know Devil Wears Prada Obviously
[00:13:40] You know Easy A is also One of those movies That's just like He's so good In that movie It's kind of like It's kind of nuts How good he is Easy A He's Emma Stone's dad In Easy A He's very He's very very like Fun and he He like approaches That movie so differently Than you would expect Like the dad In like the sex comedy Of like the girl Who's having too much Sex to Yeah Yeah Be He's like a very Like free loving Hippie sort of guy And he's a lot of fun You know He's Let's rewatch Easy A Easy A One of my girlfriend's Favorite movies That'll be an easy Watch for the podcast Because it's one I can actually Watch anytime
[00:14:11] You know There's that He's also in The first Cats in America And he's amazing In that movie Do you remember He's a Dr. Ruskin He's the creator Of the super soldier serum Oh yeah Right And he dies Like you know A third of the way Through the movie But he has like A lot of the best scenes In that movie That's also you know One of my top five MCU movies I think that movie's great Yeah yeah yeah But yeah Just somebody who's Always been around Always doing great stuff And you know Recently of course There was Devil Wears Prada 2 Which highlighted his Character again And it was fun to see Him pop up in that You know It's been good I feel like Other than that I mean
[00:14:41] Conclave was pretty big Like Conclave is a pretty Solid movie And you were a big Conclave guy I was a big Conclave guy Yeah But it also I think what was that Stanley Tucci goes to Italy Or whatever the hell That travel cooking show Yeah Yeah Travelogue show Yeah Yeah I feel like that Kind of really Brought him back In a big way Yeah For all the boomers At least So And that's pretty fun I watched a bunch of that That was a good time So anyway Yeah I think I think he's really fun In Undercover Blues Although it is weird It's sort of Like a Bringing back The kind of Classic Hollywood
[00:15:11] Problematic trope Of just like He's Italian He could be ethnic Yeah Like he's definitely Just playing a Mexican And or Spanish person In this movie Named Muerte Yes He's just trying to Mug everybody And he's a killer As in death Muerte Like death But it is very funny Unfortunately Yeah I mean honestly Yeah I think I mean we haven't Really even touched on Like what you think Of the movie overall Necessarily But like I think Undercover Blues Is a mostly Pretty bad movie That is Relatively forgettable
[00:15:41] But I do think The stuff with Stanley Tucci Is pretty funny I think And that's easily The best stuff In the movie Where he just Shows up every Ten minutes And gets bamboozled Again By the blues And you know My name is Muerte It's like Oh Morty You're back You're back That kind of thing And so His stuff is funny I like Stanley Tucci In this movie I agree Yeah I think I'm Right there with you I think mostly Like the concept I think is funny Like the Spies on vacation Get roped into a plot Thing is like fun
[00:16:11] Yeah But I don't think It works Somehow There's something Wrong or off I think it's like Maybe too cartoonish Or something about it Yeah That makes it not Really feel right I mean I was kind of Confused about that myself Because honestly On paper again This seems like It'd be right up my alley Yeah In a similar way To the villain So I have to keep Apologizing to David For this I know We keep finding Like childhood favorites And we're like Nah Nah I'm good You know Because I am somebody Who really loves You know Back and forth You know Bantering
[00:16:40] Screwball comedy Sort of deal Right Yeah And when the movie First started It's Kathleen Turner And Dennis Quaid Both actors that I like Who are like Doing that kind of thing That kind of like Back and forth Rapid fire Rat-a-tat sort of deal Yeah That reminded me of like The Thin Man Or something like that Right Like that kind of like The Nick and Nora Charles Like back and forth Sort of deal Or His Girl Friday Or whatever And I think there is Some moments where It kind of clicks for me Where it's like Oh yeah This is pretty fun And otherwise It's like Oh it just kind of Feels like I don't know Lifeless Like it just feels like
[00:17:10] There's not a lot of Energy to it I guess Yeah Yeah I think maybe like The plot is too I don't know what What it is There's something about it I couldn't tell you What happened in the movie To be Like if you had to ask me What the plot of the movie is I know they get Roped back into a job There's some kind of like C-22 missile or whatever Right Some kind of like explosive Or whatever Outside of that Couldn't tell you Well it's the I mean it's a kind of Funny bit Like that it's like Yeah C-22 The most The most Explosive Dangerous Like plastic explosive
[00:17:39] Like C-4 Like but it's C-22 So it's bigger Like Right It's pretty funny But yeah It's somebody You know A Czechoslovakian Separatist Or something Has steel Has convinced a general Or somebody to defect With this and blah blah blah And it's somebody They have history with So they have to rope Them back in Rope the blues back in To help them Crack this case Kind of thing And um They get tied up with It's yeah They get tied up with Bumbling local New Orleans cops Uh because that's Where they're on
[00:18:08] Their maternity leave And uh They all have to Solve this case together And they get into Up to hijinks and stuff And there's some Like I think there's A couple really standout Parts um Mostly with Stanley Tucci But there's one That's also very funny Where Sort of like To what you were Talking about Where like They get It's Dennis Quaid And Kathleen Turner And they're at a restaurant And like These henchmen Are at the table Next to them And they've all got Guns pointed at them And stuff And they're like And he's like Do you remember Marseille And she's like Yes And he's like Okay one two three And they don't do The same thing And then after the He's like
[00:18:37] No that was Venice You said Marseille Like you know Like they have this Like spy history together Like that's all fun I like that kind of stuff They have different plans And the rat-a-tat Stuff like you were saying But yeah I don't know There's just something to it That makes it feel Like it drags a little bit Or it's like Kind of just too wacky Like they foil the bank robbery At one point Because Dennis Quaid Sees that there's a bank robbery About to happen And the local cops Don't do it And so he ties a chain To the axle of the getaway car When they get away The chain pulls tight And like the top of the car Goes flying off
[00:19:07] Like in a cartoon You know Yeah And that kind of stuff Wasn't really landing for me But a lot of the other Some of the other stuff was The biggest laugh Of course for me Is Is Stanley Tucci Like you said Every ten minutes When he just like Pops up into the frame Like shows up in a scene That's unrelated They just like One punch Knock him out Or whatever Like anytime That kind of thing happens Is very funny Yes Yeah again Stanley Tucci stuff Is the best I do think That opening scene With Stanley Tucci And Dave Chappelle Where it's Dennis Quaid And the baby You know
[00:19:37] They have that Whole fight sequence And he easily Knocks them out All that stuff And he comes back And that's when Kathleen Turner Is like You brought our baby To a knife fight And he's like Well there was two of us And there was two of them I felt like it was a fair fight It was a fair fight That they're like Super spies Is pretty fun too Yeah Like that's a good bit And there's some good bits Like that throughout the movie But overall It just kind of has Like a weird saggy energy And I think maybe Yeah it is bogged down By the plot of the movie Or the fact that they're Like it's You know The plot is like Fairly indiscernible There's not You know There's simultaneously Like too much going on And also not enough
[00:20:06] Clarity on what Anything is happening Yeah So yeah It kind of Nothing really landed As well as it should have Which is a bummer Because I don't want to Keep letting David down I know If he wants to Keeps donating money To the podcast I want to keep Watching these movies And talking about them I hope he picks Something that we like More next time We got to do the D&D movies Those were fun We loved those That's true Yeah well It was fun to talk about them We loved Honor Among Thieves We did love Honor Among Thieves Yeah Honor Among Thieves Is a lot of fun
[00:20:35] The first one is not very good First one was rough The first one is a rough watch Notoriously rough though Yes Notoriously rough And a fun movie To talk about at least But yeah No absolutely Otherwise though Again I think this movie Has some interesting Like you know I like Kathleen Turner I like Dennis Quaid And so seeing them Pop up in this As the couple is a lot of fun Dennis Quaid especially What a weird career That guy's had What a weirdo Yeah You know Weird career Where you know One of the Weirdly like One of the bigger stars Of the you know Late 80s early 90s He's the star of Jaws 3 Right Of course But you know
[00:21:05] This breaking away There's Inner Space Which is an amazing movie I love Inner Space Joe Dante Never seen Inner Space Write it down Ooh Alright yeah I mean put Inner Space In the list I've only seen Inner Space Once and it's one That I've been meaning To rewatch for a while But one thing I really Remember about it Was how much I liked Dennis Quaid in it Because he's doing Like a Han Solo Kind of performance Like he's having A lot of fun in that I know it's one of those Like real heads no For the Joe Dante fans But I've never Never seen it That's funny Cause I Didn't know it was A Joe Dante movie Until years later
[00:21:34] Cause Inner Space Was a movie that My dad was like You gotta check out Inner Space One of these days Cool You know It's just a movie That was brought up A few times in my household But yeah Inner Space Is a lot of fun But then yeah Over the years I mean Dennis Quaid Has become like You know A far right dude Or whatever Yeah You know All that stuff I know he was Reagan in the Reagan biopic A couple years ago Oh my god I forgot about that Yeah But also He was in The Substance Like two years ago And he's really good in it He's a lot of fun In that movie You know That's a weird performance
[00:22:03] In a very weird movie Where like One of the most horrifying Things you see in The Substance Is Dennis Quaid Eating shrimp Right It's like one of the first Things that happens And you know I've been like Imitating him from that movie For the last two years Like pretty girl Should always smile You know He's wild in that So there is still Potential There's still like You can utilize Dennis Quaid Well in movies still Yeah Yeah There must be some level Of like self-awareness For him to be doing that In The Substance Right Like Right You would think Yeah But yeah He's just one of those guys
[00:22:33] Who's like Just always been around In a weird way He's in The Rocketeer Yeah Rocketeer Is also No not He's not in Rocketeer He's not the Rocketeer No I'm blanking on who he is But the Rocketeer Is not on his Is this some Dennis Quaid Motherfucker That's some guy That looks like Dennis Quaid You know I will check Who's in The Rocketeer Right now The Parent Rap Is also a Yeah Yeah Yeah Dennis Quaid He's the dad Right Yeah Yeah The Rocketeer Is a Joe Johnson Picture by the way The first Captain America Yes Starring Billy Campbell Is the star of The Rocketeer Nah it sounds like Dennis Quaid to me
[00:23:04] Some Dennis Quaid Style guy Yeah Billy Campbell Who was also He was on The Killing A few years back Okay The TV show He's also in Bram Stoker's Dracula Sure So there's that We're all talking about Billy Campbell Season Season 6 Of The Complete Works Coming up But yeah No I agree Dennis Quaid Like I mean One of the like Very early Viral Like Ellen Clips Was making him Walk into the coffee shop Like Dennis Quaid Is here Like remember that whole Like self Self aware thing You don't remember that I don't know this actually No I haven't
[00:23:34] Oh man yeah She used to have a bit Back when you know We liked Ellen Where she would Send celebrities With an earpiece Like I guess Impractical Jokers Kind of thing Like into public places And they had to say Whatever she said And he went into a Starbucks And she just kept Making him announce That he was Dennis Quaid And he was there It was very funny Very good Like the bit in MacGruber Where MacGruber Has the earpiece And Kristen Wiig Is the one who walks Into the coffee shop Exactly But anyway Yeah I think he's Pretty fun in this movie I think him and Kathleen Turner are pretty fun together
[00:24:04] Yeah What got the biggest laugh For you I think I already said it Was the There's two of us Two of them line I thought that was Very funny Okay interesting That's like five minutes Into the movie That's rough Yeah it was all downhill After that My biggest laugh It might be when Stanley Tucci showed up And Kathleen Turner Beat him up the first time I thought that was Pretty funny That's a good one Yeah Because he does keep saying You're lucky my wife's not here Every time they meet each other And then she finally shows up And she absolutely destroys him Yeah But my favorite laugh My biggest laugh Was the Stanley Tucci bit
[00:24:33] When they're torturing Saul Rubinick Yes Who's like the bank teller guy Or bank manager Who's laundering money Or whatever's happening I don't even know Yep And they get the information Out of him Without actually harming him And the cops are banging On the door And they're like Quick this way And they open like Like big French doors Out to the balcony Just as Stanley Tucci Is bursting in Through those doors To attack them Right And they throw Saul Rubinick
[00:25:03] Into Stanley Tucci Off the balcony At the same time As the cops bust in the door And it was just like A really perfect comedy timing Like hilarious Physical comedy bit Of them like Opening the door To throw Saul Rubinick Off the balcony As Stanley Tucci Is popping up It was just all like Really funny So that was the biggest Laugh for me But all of them I think for me Were the Stanley Tucci bits Him at the zoo Stranding him in the Alligator pit It was very funny That was a good bit And really just like The recurring bit Of how they keep calling him Morty is very funny That's a good bit Him getting infuriated
[00:25:32] Every single time Because his name is Muerte And you know I think he's like He feels like seen When he like meets The actual villain Of the movie And she's like Oh Muerte Like death right And it's like Yes yes you get it Exactly So yeah I mean it's It's a weird little Curio definitely Movie we would have Never found I don't think Ever you know Without this So shout out to David for that Yeah absolutely Always interested In finding new things You know And hey We crossed this Stanley Tucci off the list We crossed Kathleen Turner Dennis Quaid All that stuff So not that we were like
[00:26:01] Actively going down The list of Dennis Quaid movies To cross off But you know It's just like Hey yeah There's the Dennis Quaid I haven't seen In Kathleen Turner Especially just somebody Who in the 80s I feel like this is Sort of towards The tail end Of like the run Of Kathleen Turner Movies I guess Because in the In the 80s She's like you know Hottest lady alive Yeah She's Her first movie Is Body Heat And is Unbelievable In that movie So crazy And then Her first movie Is Body Heat Second movie Is The Man With Two Brains With Steve Martin Which is a very Funny movie That rules Yeah it's great You know
[00:26:31] She has romance In the stone And she has Peggy Sue got married Which of course Was an old Complete works episode Back in the day Jessica Rabbit Who framed Roger Rabbit Is around this time too Right And then Undercover Blues Is kind of like Towards the end Of that run She has Serial Mom Like right after this The John Waters movie Which I watched Yeah Which I watched Earlier Or last year And had a blast with Really good But yeah It's kind of Towards the end Of that like Kathleen Turner Being in a lot Of movies run And we're also At the point now Where she's like Okay she's The mom In movies Right She's You know
[00:27:01] Undercover Blues Or a serial mom And stuff like that So which is Interesting Yeah it's no more You know The two roles There exist for women It's body heat Or mom Like you know Like there's no In between Yeah absolutely So there that is But yeah Any other thoughts About Undercover Blues Mike Anything else That we haven't Talked about Not that I can Really think of Baby's cute Baby's cute Sure Yeah There's a bit Where I think Dennis Quaidley Misses the baby's First steps And he's Because he's
[00:27:31] Off doing spy stuff And you know It's very sad It's very upsetting I mean I do like The way they You know So by the way The spies are named Jane Blue And Jefferson Blue That's why the movie's Called Undercover Blues Oh yes Gotta note that Yeah yeah yeah The blues are Literally undercover But yeah No I think I like the way The movie Portrays them As like A genuinely Well adjusted Couple who You know Bicker sometimes But are Just so in love With each other And love their child And all that stuff I think the
[00:28:00] The way it kind of Portrays that Is pretty fun Yeah yeah They're like You know Despite the Bringing the baby Into like Reckless spy situations Like our good parents Like they're taking Like thoughtful And caring about Their child And being together As a family And everything And there's The pretty funny Bit where they like Are trying to break Into somebody's house And one of the Witnesses or something I can't remember And they have the baby With them And he's like Oh you know One day we're gonna Teach you how to Pick locks Just like this And all that And then they have To like
[00:28:30] Explain to the police What they're doing While they change Like the whole story Of what's going on And how they're spies And all that But like while They're changing the baby And like They're just doing Like parent stuff A bit of the Kind of like Undercover spy hijinks Yes Which is very fun It's a fun day Yeah I do want to know So if you look at The poster for the movie It is the three of them It's Kathleen Turner Dennis Quaid Baby Right Next to each other And I do wonder If part of the reason This movie got made Or why it got made In the way it did Is because
[00:28:59] There was a There was a baby surge In the US Around that time I mean Sure Look who's talking Had been a big movie A couple years earlier Three men and a baby Had been an even bigger movie A couple years earlier So I'm wondering If like that was Like an impetus For like getting This movie made And like highlighting The baby in the marketing Even though the baby Itself in the movie Is like not in that Much of it necessarily It's usually in a crib Or in like a stroller Or something So it's like You know It's in the scenes But it's usually like You're seeing other stuff happening Right right Yeah They even have like a bomb A baby shaped bomb By the end
[00:29:28] In the big like standoff With the villains and stuff At the hideout But yeah No I think you're right I think the baby is in most of the Well a stroller Whatever Is in like most of the movie Like Yep So that's neat Yeah I know I definitely agree though That this definitely feels like It's part of that whole You know 90s Baby movie 90s wave of movies Kevin Turner also in Baby Geniuses by the way Whoa Yeah Throwing that out there Remember Baby Geniuses? Yeah I do Yeah And then remember Super Babies Baby Geniuses 2 That was also a movie I don't think I saw that one I think that one
[00:29:57] Was direct to video But uh It's possible it wasn't Let me look that up real quick There was Yeah Super Baby Geniuses 2 Which by the way Super Babies Baby Geniuses 2 Directed by Bob Clark Director of Black Christmas And A Christmas Story Bob Clark Hell yeah That's awesome Super Babies Baby Geniuses 2 Came out in theaters 2004 It was a real movie You don't get Bob Clark For a direct to video joint Exactly That's true But in Baby Geniuses 2 They got superpowers That's uh Wow That's why it's called Super Babies Bob Clark also directed The first Baby Geniuses Actually Incredible
[00:30:27] There you go And Cloak and Dagger Right? Uh no Cloak and Dagger Was Richard Franklin Richard Franklin That's right Yes Director of Psycho 2 Psycho 2 Yeah But yeah Bob Clark Director of Black Christmas Directed a lot of stuff Including the Baby Geniuses movie Actually Super Babies Baby Geniuses 2 Is technically Bob Clark's last movie Wow He is uncredited On a movie in 2008 But yeah Super Babies Is his last film credit So There you go Anyway I mean he died in 2007 And Baby Geniuses 2
[00:30:57] 2004 So that makes sense That tracks Yeah Anyway Undercover Blues Not a movie In which the babies Are geniuses But it has a baby Nonetheless It does have a baby Who does walk early So you know Could be a genius That's true We don't know If there was An Undercover Blues sequel We might discover That the baby Has superpowers In any case I think it's Undercover Blues Mike I think we did it I think so I think we did it We watched a movie Apologies to David For not liking Undercover Blues more Yes You know But we're hoping That next time around
[00:31:27] We like it more I think I think we're actually Both really hoping So David Donated twice In the same thing Right here So he finished out The trilogy He finished out Stanley Choogee We got Undercover Blues Out of the way And then in October He's also going to be Making us watch The Mel Brooks movie Dracula Dead and Loving It Yes Which is a movie We've both seen Right No I think we've I've never seen it You haven't seen it Yeah Okay We're both big Mel Brooks fans Huge I saw Dracula Dead And Loving It When I was in high school At like the peak Of my Mel Brooks Fandom Like somebody You know
[00:31:56] I love Mel Brooks So much And I didn't like it At the time Okay And it's the one That like got bad reviews When it came out Right Like it's Yeah It's the one That everybody considers The bad Mel Brooks movie However I'm hoping to be wrong I'm hoping to find Something there It's Mel Brooks There's gotta be Some good stuff there It's Mel Brooks And Leslie Nielsen As Dracula Come on Come on Yeah I've never seen it Because it's You know The one That's You know Not that good Supposedly But recently On screen drafts They did a Super draft
[00:32:26] Of all Mel Brooks movies And it didn't It came in You know Like third Or maybe like Fourth I think From the bottom Which for the My preconceived notion Which is like Oh well bottom Locked in Dracula Dead And Loving It Right Before the episode Started And it didn't And they kind of Hyped it up A little bit For it to be Not the bottom And talked about it Being like Surprisingly I don't think A lot of people Give this a chance Kind of thing So I'm excited To discover it And maybe we'll Begin the Reclamation project Here on Micah Mike It could be It could be Our new Chain of fools Exactly
