[00:00:57] And this is an annual tradition, I guess a biannual tradition Is biannual once every two years or twice a year? I think that's once every two years and I think semi-annual is twice a year Okay, but bi-weekly is every two weeks But sometimes it can also mean twice a week, right? I honestly, who knows? Okay, fair English is a mystery So our semi-annual tradition Basically this happens every time one of our birthdays rolls around It's a birthday bylaw episode, Mike Yes

[00:01:26] The invention of our podcast, I think And it's the best ever Yes, absolutely So the birthday bylaw is pretty self-explanatory And very similar to like a Mike Makes Mike watch A Mike Makes Mike watch, of course, is an episode where we each make each other watch something that the other's never seen before The birthday bylaw is just we talk about one movie Sometimes we talk about a couple movies depending on if that movie was not good enough Or whatever Or we just have other things on our mind or whatever

[00:01:51] Yeah, the birthday bylaw is basically whoever's birthday it is gets to dictate the episode That's the bylaw Yes, exactly By kind of using that movie as a starting point And the birthday bylaw began as an excuse from Mike D to finally talk about Twister, I believe Right Yes, I think that was the original intent But I think it immediately evolved into a Twister Speed episode, right? Yes, we decided if we're going to do Twister, we got to also talk about Speed and go for some debaunchery Exactly Some non-debaunchery And so that was the first birthday bylaw We've done these for several years now

[00:02:21] Where we've done Mike D's birthday We do my birthday And this time around, it's my birthday again Yeah, happy birthday Thank you Yeah, or at least it was a couple of weeks ago We're recording this a few weeks later But that's okay I did actually watch today's movie on my birthday So Nice There was that It feels true to the spirit of the birthday bylaw Indeed But yeah, so the birthday bylaw episode rolled around And Mike D, I think you pointed out They're like, hey, your birthday's coming up We've got to do the episode Right

[00:02:49] And I was like, well shit, I don't know what I'm going to pick Suddenly it's a lot of pressure when it's like, oh, we're planning out the Mike Makes Mike Watch We do that a whole year in advance We know the whole, we've got a schedule And then it's like, oh shit, tomorrow? I've got to pick a movie? Like, oh no Like, it's scary Yes And so I was looking back on some of the movies that I've done for birthday bylaw in the past And some of them are like all-time favorites, like movies that I really love Some of them were movies that I'm like, oh man, I've got to make sure Mike D sees this

[00:03:17] So like the first, my first ever birthday bylaw episode was MacGruber Right You know, which I think you had seen already at that point But it's a movie that I loved and I was like, we're talking about MacGruber Finally, we're doing it Twister and MacGruber, what a pair Absolutely And then my next birthday bylaw was in 2022 And it was Triple R Because I was like, I've got to make Mike D watch Triple R So, you know, there's a lot of different variety in what birthday bylaw could be And while we were talking about it We thought back and we were like, you know what?

[00:03:45] There is one movie that And you know how we actually did this I think I went into my movie collection My Excel spreadsheet Went to random.org and just had it like randomly select a DVD For me and it came up on one that I was like, oh, you know what? This actually fits perfectly because we've been saying we're going to do an episode on this for a long time Right I think it was one of the original Mike and Mike makes Mike watch picks or something, right? Yeah, I'm actually not even totally sure how it came about that we that this was in there

[00:04:14] Because so we talked about this movie or the possibility of doing this movie And I'm such a huge fan that everybody involved in the making of this movie So it's kind of crazy that I had never seen it before You have seen this before Right And we were talking about it on an episode I feel like maybe like two years ago at this point Kyle Cullen, music supervisor slash basically producer of this podcast Actual producer Actual producer of this podcast No offense to producer Colin Kyle Cullen in his producer capacities Heard us talk about the movie on this podcast

[00:04:43] And within a week I got a package delivered to my doorstep And it was the DVD for this movie from Kyle He sent it to me He found it on eBay because this DVD is out of print And I think the reason we were talking about it is because Oh man, we'd love to do an episode But like can't find it on any like illicit sites It's not streaming anywhere Like this movie is like completely vanished from the face of the earth At least that was the case a couple years ago And so Kyle sent me the DVD And we're like, okay, I'm finally going to watch this It's finally going to happen

[00:05:09] And that is how I ended up in possession of 2005's The Baxter This is my fiancé I'm Caroline Swan Beautiful, charming, and successful Then again, when it comes to crunching numbers, I am all found Fear not Enter Elliot Sherman's CPA This is her high school sweetheart Handsome, adventurous, and charismatic This is the adorable temp

Yellowstone National Park And wrong I saw photographs of you and your high school sweetheart Bradley He was the love of her life I mean, besides you, of course I thought we had no secrets That was 15 years ago It would take an act of God for us to ever cause paths again Caroline Bradley? Bradley?

[00:06:05] So yeah, Kyle sent me the DVD for The Baxter After we talked about it on the podcast I do not remember the context and why we were talking about this movie I feel like Did I make you watch They Came Together at some point? Is that maybe why? Not on the podcast But we watched that together in college, I think Okay, yeah I remember when it came out I was the only person I knew who watched that movie And was making everyone watch it Yeah I think I wanted to make you watch The Baxter

[00:06:34] As like a Mike Makes Mike Watch pick Way back in the beginning of this Okay And we couldn't find it And it was like, wow This movie, like, oh man I guess we'll have to pivot to something else And we were talking about not being able to find this movie Just a quick interjection Mike D is totally right He picked this for Mike Makes Mike Watch And they announced it At the end of, like, the week's episode And like, this is what we're doing And then they came back the following week And we're like Turns out Couldn't find it Mike also made me watch

[00:07:03] They Came Together So I like David Wayne I wanted Mike to be able to see this movie So I got it for him And it's hilarious I'm thinking of it now Like, I'm thinking about it now And for some reason eBay literally never enters my consciousness Of like, oh, I can't find this movie Guess it's All hope is lost Never mind Sure Like, and it's never like Oh, just check eBay Like, I remember we tweeted at Adam Rifkin When we were talking about Welcome to Hollywood And he was Because that's also unavailable For the Goldblum season Of The Complete Works

[00:07:33] And he was like I don't know, man Check eBay And we're like Oh, shit Right Oh, yeah Which is crazy So that's great Shout out to Kyle For hooking up you With your Years later birthday bylaw pick Yeah, absolutely I mean, he sent me the Baxter And I definitely said Oh, man I'm going to watch this As soon as possible And then like two years passed Yeah I just went back and checked the tape The tape being my eBay tracking history And that was delivered to Mike At his apartment In Missoula, Montana

[00:08:03] On February 23rd, 2024 So it's been over two years, Mike You're a bad friend But I did finally watch it And I'm glad that I did So yeah, this was the movie We decided to watch Because of the randomly generated pick In my Blu-ray collection spreadsheet And you were also able to find it On your own as well, Mike So we were like, okay Well, let's make it happen We're doing the Baxter Yeah Yeah, it finally happened And I'm glad it did Because I hadn't watched this Since college, probably I wish I could remember

[00:08:32] I feel like there was like A cool girl That was like Hey, you ever You have talked about Stella Or something And I was like Oh, shit Hummada, hummada, hummada You know, like Yeah And yeah, hooked me up With the Baxter And I think I watched it Back when Netflix was like cool And had like a deep catalog Of licensed movies And it might have even been discs I don't even know I don't remember the full context Of that hookup And yeah, that was the first time I watched it back in college

[00:09:01] Okay, cool So for those who don't know What the Baxter is This is a movie written and directed And starring Michael Showalter In the lead role Michael Showalter, of course Who's collaborated with Comedy director David Wayne Many times Best known for Wet Hot American Summer He also, I believe, co-wrote They came together With David Wayne He is in the movie Signs For those who don't remember He's in Signs? He is Yeah, he is a guy Who has like a dark monologue He pops up for like One or two scenes He's in like the store Wow When like

[00:09:31] I think Joaquin Phoenix Shows up and it's like Oh yeah But he didn't have the guts To make that swing Or whatever You know It's been a little bit Since I've seen Signs But he's in it Yeah, no Showalter is one of those guys Who is just Is in a lot of comedy stuff And that dates back to All the way in the 90s Of course there is The State Which is the sketch comedy show That featured David Wayne And Michael Showalter And Michael Ian Black And Joe LaCulio And all these guys In one place And that group Has pretty much carried over Into all of the films That these guys make Or the TV projects That these guys make

[00:10:01] All that stuff Right In the mid-2000s They had Stella Which was a short-lived TV series One season But it is a prized DVD In my collection Ten great episodes Featuring David Wayne Showalter And Michael Ian Black And yeah Since then Showalter Has kind of left The alt-comedy scene Behind a little bit He's still working Very much He hasn't acted In a while I remember he produced Search Party Right Yeah The TV show Which we were both Big fans of And I think appears in it For a couple of episodes

[00:10:30] In a comedic role But Showalter Has mostly been acting As a director In the last like 10 years He directed The Big Sick With Kumail Nanjiani Right He also directed The Eyes of Tammy Faye Which was the one That Jessica Chastain Won an Oscar for You know All that stuff That's a Michael Showalter movie What? He directed that Yes Absolutely That's insane Yes He has a very weird Filmography He directed Hello My Name Is Doris The Sally Field movie Most recently Just last year Or two years ago He did The Idea of You

[00:10:59] Which was the one With Anne Hathaway And it was like A Harry Styles fan fiction That went straight To Amazon Prime Right I did see that Recently he did Oh What Fun Which was the Christmas movie That I believe Was also on Amazon Prime With Michelle Pfeiffer And this year He has a new movie Coming out In theaters It's Anne Hathaway And Dakota Johnson It's a Colleen Hoover Adaptation Called Verity So it's like A psychological thriller And yeah So he's been doing A lot of different Kinds of stuff But it's interesting That like Last ten years or so He's kind of left The alt comedy scene

[00:11:29] Which is a little bit Of a bummer Yeah Because I do think And I'm saying this As How to American Summer Is like one of my All time favorite movies There's very few people That are funnier Than Michael Showalter On screen He's so good Yeah And The Baxter Was his directorial debut This is the first movie He ever directed Wow So was it always David Wayne That directed them Usually before Michael Showalter Typically yes Yeah David Wayne Typically directed Their film projects And so this one Is like more of a Showalter project That of course David Wayne's in Like he acts in it Yeah But I don't believe

[00:11:58] He's credited as a writer Or anything like that I think Showalter Is like sole credited Director and writer On this But at the same time So Showalter So Showalter and David Wayne Also David Wayne directed They Came Together But the two of them Co-wrote it together Okay And The Baxter Very much feels like A little bit of a dry run For what that movie is Right So for those who don't know This is a movie that is A parody of romantic comedies Much like They Came Together Is And more specifically Kind of focusing on This character The leading man Played by Showalter Who's very much based on Like the character

[00:12:28] Like Bill Pullman plays In Sleepless in Seattle The guy who gets left At the altar You know For the more charismatic And handsome leading man Right Or something like that That sort of character In like a lot of Different romantic comedies And it's sort of just What that character's life Is like And what is going on Through his point of view Yeah Yeah I mean It's one of those weird Like meta self-aware things You know Not as meta as Like They Came Together I think Which is more outwardly Like It's just straight up Like I think about that Scene where they're Playing basketball together

[00:12:57] And they're just like Thanks friend from college Like they're all just like Saying their archetype names While they're having This conversation Which is very funny Swish And they like Throw the basketball And nothing It doesn't even come Close to the name Yeah yeah But yeah It's you know Opens with the voiceover Explaining what A Baxter is As the Yeah Like you said The guy who Is just totally normal Like totally nice guy But is not right For the The leading lady And so he just gets Left at the altar By you know For What's his name Who's the guy Who's Justin Theroux

[00:13:27] In this movie Justin Theroux Right Like just What a hunk Right But the Baxter Is just like A normal Regular guy So it's hilarious To have it sort of Be all through that lens I think So it's fun Yeah absolutely So yeah I finally got to Watch the Baxter It's a weird Like kind of Looking back on it Like how did I Never see this Because I was such a Huge fan I can't believe You never saw this Yeah I'm such a huge fan Of all this guy Of all the stuff That these guys do I have The State on DVD I have Stella on DVD Whitehead American Summer I've watched probably

[00:13:56] 50,000 times Like I've seen that movie So many times It's coming back in theaters This year Which I'm very excited about Wow And I've seen You know David Wayne directed Role Models too He directed There was a movie Called The Ten That David Wayne directed Do you remember that? What? I didn't know That was a David Yeah Yeah That was a David Wayne movie And that's also a movie That's like difficult to find now It's harder to find The Ten I don't think there's An in-print DVD of it I don't think it's streaming anywhere And even like I used to occasionally Like The Ten has like This one big finale sequence

[00:14:25] That's a big musical number That like brings all The different sketches in together And all that stuff And it used to be Stuck in my head all the time And so I would go to YouTube And find that clip That clip's gone now I can't find it on YouTube anymore It's a bummer And so yeah There's so many different things That like I saw as a result I watched Michael and Michael Have Issues back in the day The Showalter and Michael Ian Black TV show Yeah I watched Wayney Days The David Wayne like web series Like I was watching all this stuff And for some reason Never got to the Baxter And finally watched it

[00:14:54] And it's pretty good It's fun I liked it Yeah I had a good time with it What a delight Yes That's crazy Yeah The Ten was also A very early Netflix I think streaming I'm pretty sure that's how I watched it originally Yeah Because I remember Making my friends in college Watch that And them all just being like This sucks Like they just And I was like dying Like I had watched it already And was like I gotta show my Like oh my god Everyone's gonna love And it just totally whiffed For them Which is hilarious That's a bummer I think I think there's still

[00:15:24] Some great stuff in the Ten If I went back and watched it There's the bit with like Liev Schreiber's Like the dueling MRI machines Do you know what? Or the dueling chemotherapy stuff Whatever it was Whatever it was Yeah Just ridiculous But that's crazy I should have realized It's a David Wayne project Based on the people That are in it Yeah Yeah I can't believe you never Got to the Baxter You were like one layer Too deep You know You just missed You stopped digging Right before you got to it Yeah But I'm glad you Yeah it's fun Like it's fun Yeah it's a good time I don't think it's I think it's The dry run for

[00:15:54] They came together Is a pretty good Description for it Like it's I don't think it reaches The highs of those movies Or the later stuff for me But like It's really fun Good time I don't know I enjoyed it Yeah I had a really Fun time with this I agree that It's not quite as polished As some of those other films And you know They came together Really like I love that movie It was hilarious It's been a few years I watched it But there are so many Moments from that movie That I still quote all the time And the Baxter I think does have A few scenes That are really Really funny Like really terrific Like the scene

[00:16:22] In which Michelle Williams Is like hiding Under the bedsheets To try like You know To pretend that She's not there When Elizabeth Banks Is like barging in And all that stuff Is really really good It's just like A great parody Of like that kind of Moment in a romantic comedy Where she's just like Literally under the bedsheets You can easily see The outline of her body Yeah Elizabeth Banks Is like laying all over her And like All this stuff It's so funny All that stuff Is terrific And there's You know Just great comedic timing From everybody Michelle Walter's A really great lead And you do have Just basically like

[00:16:52] It's the gang Gang's all here You got Elizabeth Banks You got Zach Orth You got Paul Rudd You got A.D. Miles And Joe LaTruleo And Ken Marino Pops up at the end And all that stuff Right I was dying When he shows up At the end He has a great moment Yeah absolutely He's like Hey get out Get out of here I mean I was like Oh man This is just like They came together But Paul Rudd's not here And then there's a scene When he shows up And I was like Oh my god Look how good The gang's back They're all here The gang's back together Yeah I believe Paul Rudd Is in every David Wayne movie

[00:17:21] Up through Wanderlust I want to say Or they came together also Because yeah Wanderlust is 2012 They came together They came together Not negative reviews That was a biopic About Doug Kenny From National Lampoon With Will Forte Right And it was sort of A parody of biopics

[00:17:51] At the same time But sort of trying To be a real one I don't think Paul Rudd Is in that Or if he was It was like a cameo Kind of bit That also had Joel McHale Playing Chevy Chase Which was a very good bit Right That was a lot of fun But David Wayne Has not directed a movie Since I don't think He is coming out With a new movie This summer Wow Which I am very excited about And I believe it premiered At Sundance this year It is called Gail Daughtry And the Celebrity Sex Pass It stars Zoe Deutsch In the lead role And I haven't seen it yet I believe the plot Is that Zoe Deutsch

[00:18:20] Is a woman Who's in a relationship And the two of them Each have like A celebrity hall pass And the husband Like does it Like he like sleeps With the celebrity That's part of it And so she now has to Do her version of it And so I believe The movie is about Zoe Deutsch On a quest to have Sex with Jon Hamm Like Jon Hamm Playing himself Right Yeah And I've heard good things I'm very excited to see it It comes out near me Next week So the Baxter Actually good timing For what we're doing today Yeah absolutely But yeah

[00:18:50] Had a great time With this movie I thought it was A lot of fun Again I think Showalter is Just one of the Funniest guys ever I wish he was Acting more In stuff But he's like Perfect as that Kind of like Just schlubby Baxter character The you know The bits at the Beginning where He's just like You know His suit's a little Too big And he's just like Oh you know I like doing stuff Here and there You know Yeah yeah And I really like The fact that they got People like Michelle Williams And Justin Theroux To be in this movie Right You know Michelle Williams Especially who I don't think Was like a megastar

[00:19:20] At the time But had been on Like Dawson's Creek And things like that And but she's like Totally game for like What this movie is Justin Theroux I feel like I think of More as like a More serious guy Sort of because Of the leftovers Maybe Oh yeah But he was also Like heavily involved In like this comedy Scene for a long time Too Like he wrote Zoolander I was gonna say Isn't he like In Zoolander And stuff Yeah Yeah He like He's in And co-wrote Zoolander I think And also co-wrote Like Tropic Thunder Right And stuff like that Iron Man 2 I think he also Has a screenwriting credit on And recently

[00:19:49] Justin Theroux Justin Theroux Has an appearance In The Devil Wears Prada 2 Where he's playing Like a very thinly veiled Like Elon Musk Jeff Bezos Like super billionaire Kind of guy He's the best part Of the movie He's really funny In that So it's fun to see him Pop up in this And like kind of Let loose a little bit Yeah yeah I think that's One of the fun things About I mean About this whole Crew in general Like when you go back And watch What had an American summer You're like Amy Poehler And Bradley Cooper And like all these guys Like what the hell Is going on You know That would in 10 years

[00:20:19] Be some of the most Famous people Or actually I don't even know How long it is Before they're very famous But even Paul Rudd And all those guys So yeah That's fun When they pop up When he goes Showalter goes to the bar And it's 80 Miles And Joe Lettrio And it's like The rest of the crew You're like Hey it's the guy It's the gang Gang's all here That's fun And yeah I love Elizabeth Banks And just And Michael Showalter Just being so incompatible It's like hilarious

[00:20:48] But everyone just They just keep brushing it aside Like well anyway The wedding's still on Which is so funny It's like I wanted to go to Paris But he wanted to go Spelunking or whatever And so that's what we did Yeah To go to Yellowstone So sure I guess And I mean Peter Dinklage As the wedding planner Great Sure I'm in the middle Of a Game of Thrones rewatch So it's very funny To be like Holy shit Yeah This is what Peter Dinklage Used to do You know This is just He would pop up In comedy films For the most part For like You know A couple of scenes

[00:21:18] He's an elf also Right It's weird that Like our perception Of Peter Dinklage Has changed so much Because of Game of Thrones And then he was just In a bunch of Franchise stuff for a while Right Where he was the villain In Days of Future Past The X-Men movie Right He was in Avengers Infinity War And all that stuff And now I feel like He's sort of Coming back around To appearing as Like a comedic actor again He was in Roofman last year And was pretty solid In that Okay So yeah Peter Dinklage Always been good You know Yeah Yeah Absolutely Love that So yeah I'm trying to think Of any like Specific scenes

[00:21:47] That stand out For me Or what about For you Is there any Like highlight Like any Big laughs Or moments I think the highlight For me Is definitely The scene Where Michelle Williams Is hiding under the bed Okay That's just great Physical acting Very great Physical comedy And just the way That like Keeps building Throughout the entire scene Where Elizabeth Banks Keeps like Leaving the room And then coming back Into the room And leaving the room And coming back Is really really good And then there's just The kind of vintage David Wayne style Of like rambly Comedy dialogue That I really like And especially when David Wayne himself

[00:22:17] Is in the movie He plays Showalter's brother-in-law Right I believe right Like Elizabeth Banks's Like sister's husband Yep And they have like A heart to heart On the pier And he just like Starts rambling about That's that line Where he's like Oh I got a 40 Huh Yeah I put one Of those away once Don't get me started On my college days And he just starts Rambling about like Things are hard In a relationship You know we went To the banana factory Once Bananas aren't even Manufactured And it's just like Like that kind of thing And it just keeps going And rambling for a long time

[00:22:47] And all of that Fantastic Big fan Yeah Yeah yeah Because eventually Elizabeth Banks After the wedding Planner scene Where he doesn't fill Out the questionnaire And none of their Answers match And all this stuff She calls off the wedding Yeah And yeah So he's like On the skids And I think That's my favorite Scene after that When he actually Is at the bar With the crew And all those guys Which are like His nerdy Other Baxter friends And he runs into It's Paul Rudd Who turns out Is Michelle Williams' Boyfriend And he's like Oh yeah

[00:23:17] The Baxter Oh she told me about you The Baxter Right Like this whole thing And he's just so cool And then Justin Theroux Shows up And he knows Paul Rudd And it's just like It keeps getting worse And worse and worse For Michael Showalter And they're like Oh come We'll get a table And he's like No no no no But all of his Baxter friends Are like Yeah sure Yeah They want to hang out With the cool guys And it's just that That whole comedy Of like errors Is comedy of batters Or whatever Is so funny to me So that's probably The big laughs for me I mean Michelle Williams Is just incredible

[00:23:46] Like when does 500 Days of Summer Come out Because it's like The Manic Pixie Dream Girl But not quite yet Like I don't think We have the words For that yet In this I think we kind of do But it's not 500 Days of Summer I feel like that Is that Begins Yeah I mean 500 Days of Summer Is definitely like A huge example of that The Zooey Deschanel All that stuff But I think Garden State 2004 I believe that's like The coinage of the term I think And I believe It was Nathan Rabin Who was like Writing an article For the AV Club I don't know If it was in 2004 Or if it was a couple Years later

[00:24:16] Looking back on it Or something like that But I believe That term like Comes from Garden State In like 2004 Okay So I think we're Definitely riffing On that kind of thing Right Yeah I think so But she's like A Lady Baxter Basically So like It's a little different I guess But it's that That energy Where she She reminded me of Is it Kate Micucci Who's in the Community episode Where she's always Got like the Razor Scooter And like is Like talking I don't remember Who that actress is But you know The episode

[00:24:45] I'm talking about I am Blanking on that That sounds Incredibly familiar I don't think It's Kate Micucci But it's somebody Like that But yeah Anyway That whole thing Where she's like Oh yeah Like where they're Both reading the Dictionary in their Free time And they like You know Do all those Weird nerdy stuff That only they do But oh my god You also do that Crazy So that's fun And I really enjoy I think in the Backstreet was really Fun The like Structure Like it's at the Story Like it's all Flashbacks Within flashbacks

[00:25:15] Within flashbacks To a flashback To two minutes ago Where Michael Showalter You know Like raises his arms And you see that He's wearing Women's panties And he's like Oh yeah I forgot to tell You about that And like the Movie rewinds To the Two minutes To show you Them scrambling To hide Michelle Williams And he finds The panties On the floor So he just Puts them on Just hilarious So keep doing That stuff That whole thing Is very fun Yeah That's great I really like The sequence Where he is Describing his

[00:26:14] Right after that's Then college And like They're in the Cheerleader squad Or the marching Band or something And there's like A pep There's a pep Rally going on And like the Jock shows up And like Takes the girl And all that Yeah He's like The lacrosse Captain And he's like And we should Cancel the game And all go see Her in the School play And like And like And all of them Cheer Like all of the Lacrosse teams Like yeah It's so funny And he's just like What Wait what What He's just totally Unaware of it

[00:26:44] Yeah that whole That whole Montage is very funny Yeah that's great And Paul Rudd I mean he's only In the movie For like the last Third of it But just always Great Like he and David Wayne Do their best Work together You know He's so so Good in this Movie And I love The end Where he gets Baxtered by Michael Showalter And then it Ends with like He has like A mid credit Scene where Now he's the Narrator and he's Reflecting on his Own life as the Baxter and all That stuff which Is very funny It's so funny Yeah But what a What a good Movie Yeah absolutely

[00:27:14] I think Paul Rudd And David Wayne Should make another Movie together again I feel like it's Been too long Since they have You can say that Again I do think like Since Paul Rudd Became Ant-Man It's been like Tougher to get him To lock down And stuff I mean he was in The White American Summer TV shows So there was that That's good Did you ever watch The TV shows I did not No Oh man They're great They're really good They are I think I've Watched First Day Of Camp At least twice Through and Ten years later I watched once But yeah Obviously I don't Rewatch them as

[00:27:43] Often as I do The movie White American Summer Which I actually Haven't watched In a few years So I'm due for Rewatching that one But yeah Both those shows Are great They're really Really funny And they do Bring back The entire cast Like it's It's all there At least First Day Of Camp does Like Bradley Cooper's in it You know And despite the fact That at that point He's Bradley Cooper You know Yeah And then in Ten years later He's not It's not Bradley Cooper again But they have Like a comedic Bit So First Day Of Camp Takes place Obviously on The first day Of Camp That same year That White American Summer Takes place Okay So it's It's all

[00:28:13] The same actors Who are now Like 15-20 years Older But they're Technically playing Younger versions Of themselves Yeah Which is a Very funny bit And then There's Ten Years later Which takes place Like ten years After the Original movie I believe On the date At the end of the first Of the movie White American Summer Yeah And at this point Now Bradley Cooper's Character I think Has become like A famous actor And had facial Reconstruction surgery And is now Adam Scott Like Adam Scott's Playing that character Now That's really funny But I believe

[00:28:43] Bradley Cooper Was gonna do it And then he couldn't At the last minute Because he was Playing the elephant man On stage Or something Yeah Sure So stuff like that That show also has Like Michael Showalter Playing Ronald Reagan Very frequently And that's a very good bit Throughout the whole thing And I think Ten years later Has like Michael Ian Black As H.W. Bush As well Wow And I think Somebody else Playing Clinton I wanna say Maybe David Wayne's Playing Bill Clinton In that show It's been a while But in any case I highly recommend Revisiting those Or watching those For the first time

[00:29:13] If you get the chance Because they are very funny And it is like It's the whole crew It's David Wayne It's him doing his thing Yeah I mean I didn't see Wet Hot American Summer Till at least The podcast era So since 2015 or later Yeah I never saw it So I don't remember If you made me do it Like I think It was actually Before we like Made the Mike Makes Mike Watches Okay But yeah I hadn't seen it Till at least college Or later Which is crazy That's wild that you Saw the Baxter Before Wet Hot American Summer Yeah I don't know I mean Somebody told me To watch the Baxter Is really the only reason I found this

[00:29:43] I mean I knew Stella and stuff too Sure Which is also insane But they were also At least Michael Ian Black Was always on Best Week Ever And like those The shows right I feel like Yes yeah Michael Ian Black Was always one of the guys On Best Week Ever And like I love the 70s and 80s Like he's popping up On VH1 all the time Yeah All the time Yeah So I was vaguely familiar With these personalities At least Even if I didn't know Their names and stuff But yeah So I don't know How I never saw Wet Hot American Summer Or any other stuff Until you know I got Manic Pixie Dream Girl

[00:30:13] And somebody was like Hey Some lady was like You should watch this movie It's all It's very good And I was like Oh yeah I know movies Hoo hoo There you go Yes Did you ever see Wanderlust? I don't know It sounds familiar But maybe just The name of it You might have even Made me watch it I don't remember Maybe That's Paul Rudd And Jennifer Aniston Are the two stars Of that one It's very funny It's really good That was I saw that in theaters It bombed when it came out But I was there I And it's like The two of them Like are on a They're a couple Who like go out

[00:30:43] To like a retreat And they're Spending their summer With like sort of a Hippie commune Sort of camp And it's a great time It's really fun Nice I would like to report That it's Wendy McComb Who plays The character of Kat On that episode Of Community Called Herstory of Dance Okay I think I believe that's a season Four episode of Community Which is why I might not have Jumped on that right away I don't know It doesn't say What season it is But she's the one With the super duper Mr. Cooper catchphrase Remember she's all Quirky and weird

[00:31:12] Yes I do And that is Season four episode eight So yeah It is So Brie Larson's Also introduced In that episode Oh my god As Obet's girlfriend So that's who I like Thought you were talking About for a second I was like oh yeah Brie Larson on Community Right Right And then no It's actually It's this It's this other character So but like Brie Larson Then replaces that character I think But yeah season four Of Community We don't talk about as much The Gasly Gear It's the Gasly Gear Of course David Wayne I don't think was ever On Community Which is a shame

[00:31:42] Sure I mean that seems Odd you know That they didn't Yeah I think they I think there's definitely Some there's probably Some actors that like Crossed paths between The two worlds Right And I'm blanking on Who they might be But David Wayne And that crew like Did get involved in a lot Of different TV shows At that time I know they produced Children's Hospital Right As well Which was a great show And a bunch of those Adult swim shows I think were like David Wayne Productions Or like Worked with a lot Of those guys Yeah In recent years And this is true I don't know if you've like Kept up with David Wayne

[00:32:12] On YouTube or anything Mike No So the last couple years Again David Wayne One of the funniest guys I love him And he and Ken Marino Have a series called Middle-aged Dad Jam Band Or Middle-aged Dad Band I have seen that Yeah Okay yeah And it's just them Doing straight covers of songs Yeah There's sometimes Like a joke at the beginning But for the most part You're just hearing them Play the songs And it's good It's great It's really fun I forget who the other People in the band are But it's all like Famous Well famous Air quotes You know

[00:32:41] I think most of them Are just their friends But sometimes they have Like Jess McKenna Was in a couple episodes Yeah I know Weird Al Sat in with them For stuff Weird Al's done a couple Yeah So every once in a while They'll have like Guest people kind of pop in But there is one joke That I do think about All the time From one of those videos Okay A peek inside the psyche Of Mike Smith And it's It's at the They're doing An ABBA song Or they're doing And now I'm blanking On the name of the song I'm gonna totally butcher this Okay But it's David Wayne And Jess McKenna

[00:35:09] That was a really great show And then there was The fifth season Which you know Unique in its own way Yeah But it was good I remember liking season five I mean that was That was the Goldblum season So that's one That we had to talk about And that is the season With the Jesper in it Right That is the best part of that Yeah So you got that That out of it But yeah We're a weird final season But overall Really great show Just doing like A losers club thing In the Like an it Just out of nowhere In like the third To last episode

[00:35:38] Of the entire show Oh my god Yeah It was so funny It was good And Michael Ian Black Was one of those guys Actually He was one of the Losers club Right That's right Yeah There you go All right Anything else about the Baxter That we haven't talked about Mike Any random scenes That you want to bring up Or anything like that I'm trying to think No I think we covered A lot of it It's all It's fun It's just neat You know I think If you're kind of Like I think yeah Watching this And they come together Would be fun I don't know about Back to back But close together Is fun Yeah

[00:36:08] To see that like Oh wow yeah They tried it all out And they figured it out You know a couple years later And it's neat Good times Yeah absolutely Again yeah I think They Came Together Is the stronger version Of this like you know Rom-com parody movie But if you want to see Like the seeds of what became They Came Together The Baxter's a great place to start And cool to see The directorial debut Of Michael Showalter finally Yeah and it's like This is What I don't remember the timeline Of stuff but this is like Pre-Apatow right Like cause you know Those guys kind of all Get involved in that World too Sure

[00:36:37] This is the same year That 40 year old virgin Comes out actually This is 2005 And this movie makes No money at the box office And 40 year old virgin Makes a lot It makes every dollar Yes Yeah You're basically like Right in the At the start of Apatow directed movies At this point He's already been like Producing some movies At this point But like he becomes Like a big name Kind of because Of 40 year old virgin And then also like Knocked up Two years later Yeah Super bad Which he produced Is also that year In 2007 And it's kind of like Okay well now Apatow
