BONUS - Dragon Ball Z: Battle Of Gods

It's another Mike and Mike bonus episode! This time around, a Ko-Fi donation made in the wake of Akira Toriyama's death has got us watching 2013's DRAGON BALL Z: BATTLE OF GODS!

[00:00:00] Let's get together and talk about the movies that we saw this week.

[00:00:04] We'll have discussions, talk film news, we'll laugh a lot and act like beasts.

[00:00:07] Sometimes we'll have a guest or two sometimes it's just the two of us.

[00:00:09] We'll crack some jokes and tell some folks to come along and hang with us!

[00:00:12] Why can't I go to the movies?

[00:00:17] Why can't I go to the movies?

[00:00:22] Yeah!

[00:00:25] You have chosen wise.

[00:00:28] Last time on Mike and Mike Z!

[00:00:31] Mike and Mike were given a kofi donation to discuss Dragon Ball Super Broly, which ignited

[00:00:35] a conversation between noted Dragon Ball Scholar Mike Smith and Dragon Ball Neo Fight Mike

[00:00:40] Decretio who after recording that episode did watch a little bit of the original Dragon

[00:00:45] Ball series.

[00:00:46] Now, time has passed and after the death of Akira Toriyama another kofi donation

[00:00:51] has come in to make us watch another Dragon Ball movie.

[00:00:55] All this and more today on Mike and Mike Go To The Movies!

[00:00:58] That was pretty good.

[00:01:00] Thank you.

[00:01:01] I've watched a lot of Dragon Ball Z in my time.

[00:01:03] I guess that's fair.

[00:01:05] I've nailed the narrator voice by now.

[00:01:07] I'm Mike Smith and joining me as always is a God of Destruction who can easily be

[00:01:11] distracted by putting...

[00:01:12] Mike Decretio.

[00:01:13] How you doing today Mike?

[00:01:14] I think that might be the most accurate bit you've come up with about me.

[00:01:19] But I'm great.

[00:01:21] How are you?

[00:01:22] I'm good, I'm good.

[00:01:23] How are you feeling about doing another Dragon Ball episode?

[00:01:26] Pretty excited especially after that rousing intro you did.

[00:01:29] That was so exciting.

[00:01:30] Yeah, hopefully Kyle can add something like the Dragon Ball background music to that's

[00:01:34] a place behind it.

[00:01:35] But not enough to get a copyright strike.

[00:01:37] Right, that's true.

[00:01:38] Maybe he can compose his own.

[00:01:39] We certainly...

[00:01:40] Legally distinct epic background music.

[00:01:44] Yes, but yeah we are doing another Dragon Ball episode today because we got another

[00:01:49] kofi donation.

[00:01:50] So last week we did a Star Trek First Contact episode because we got $50 from Kofi.

[00:01:55] This week we're talking about another Dragon Ball movie thanks to another Kofi donation

[00:01:58] from the same person who made us watch Dragon Ball Super Broly a few months back.

[00:02:02] Yes, the roommate of our beloved artist MacVe, her roommate hooked us up.

[00:02:07] Aaron, I think.

[00:02:08] So shout out to Aaron.

[00:02:09] I should have double checked I guess.

[00:02:11] But I'm pretty sure that's what it is.

[00:02:12] And yeah, big, big Dragon Ball guy and yeah like you mentioned in the beginning

[00:02:17] sort of like a tribute to the Akira Toriyama, the creator and artist and everything for

[00:02:21] Dragon Ball passed away recently.

[00:02:23] And so he wanted us to watch another one of their movies.

[00:02:26] Yeah, and I was of course very excited by that prospect and I will gladly watch as

[00:02:30] many Dragon Ball movies as people are willing to donate $50 to the fuck.

[00:02:34] I was pretty shocked actually when you go on Letterboxed and you just like do

[00:02:38] Dragon Ball.

[00:02:39] There's a lot of movies.

[00:02:40] Oh yeah.

[00:02:41] I don't think I knew that.

[00:02:42] Yeah, I think there's so this is like the first like big movie I think that we're

[00:02:47] going to be talking about today.

[00:02:48] But there were like a bunch of like one hour specials like those those kind of movies.

[00:02:53] Okay, that makes sense.

[00:02:54] Yeah, that we're like kind of coming out in tandem with the TV show, which almost

[00:02:58] all of them are available on Crunchyroll right now, which I now have a Crunchyroll

[00:03:03] account because Funimation got absorbed into Crunchyroll and so I've been doing

[00:03:07] my Dragon Ball rewatch and I'm in deep into the Frieza saga now.

[00:03:11] I'm like three episodes away from Goku becoming a Super Saiyan for the first time.

[00:03:15] Very excited about that.

[00:03:17] But yeah, so all my stuff got moved over to Crunchyroll.

[00:03:21] I logged in and everything worked fine.

[00:03:23] Everything got transferred over like including my continue watching and

[00:03:26] like which is pretty cool.

[00:03:28] And I was a little ambivalent about it at first, but they actually have

[00:03:32] almost all of the Dragon Ball movies on Crunchyroll except for the one we're

[00:03:36] talking about today.

[00:03:39] Incredible.

[00:03:40] Which was pretty funny.

[00:03:42] But yeah, so we're talking about Dragon Ball today and we should also recap.

[00:03:45] We talked about this last week.

[00:03:46] We are moving the podcast.

[00:03:48] Yes.

[00:03:49] Mike McGonagall in the movies is going to sort of cease existence on this feed.

[00:03:55] The Mike and Mike feed.

[00:03:56] It's going to become bonus episodes to the complete work.

[00:03:59] So we'll still be doing Mike and Mike episodes once every two weeks and up

[00:04:02] until the new season of the complete work starts, it'll still be weekly.

[00:04:05] But yeah, if you haven't subscribed over to the complete works feed for podcasts,

[00:04:09] you should do that because that's where Mike's going to be.

[00:04:11] Yes, we're moving much like Crunchyroll Absorbed Funimation.

[00:04:15] Except these are both things that we make so it's not at all like that.

[00:04:18] But yeah, we're combining the feeds.

[00:04:20] We're going to be only releasing in the future only on the complete works feed.

[00:04:24] So make sure you go subscribe over there.

[00:04:26] Yes.

[00:04:26] Can you hear my dog barking in the background?

[00:04:28] I cannot.

[00:04:29] OK, great.

[00:04:29] That's fantastic.

[00:04:33] I love to hear that.

[00:04:34] Good job, audio software.

[00:04:35] Yes, very, very good.

[00:04:37] Yes. So if you have not subscribed to the complete works feed, do so.

[00:04:40] And yeah, today we are talking Dragon Balls.

[00:04:42] Before we get into the movie that we're talking to that today,

[00:04:45] Mike D, you started watching Dragon Ball a little bit after we talked about

[00:04:51] Dragon Ball Super Broly.

[00:04:52] Just curious, how far did you get when watching the show?

[00:04:55] I think last time I said 10 episodes when we talked about this,

[00:04:57] but I don't think I even made it 10 episodes.

[00:05:00] OK, I don't really remember.

[00:05:01] I watched maybe like, you know, definitely like four or five and was

[00:05:05] enjoying it, but then just every time I would open it, I would look and be like,

[00:05:08] oh, this is 100 gigs because it was always the complete Dragon Ball series

[00:05:13] like franchise or whatever that I had downloaded.

[00:05:15] So I was watching just the Dragon Ball stuff like that or the one

[00:05:18] their very first series.

[00:05:20] Yeah.

[00:05:20] But I had Z and I had Super and everything queued up.

[00:05:23] And I was just like, you know, this might be too much.

[00:05:25] And I just pulled the ripcord.

[00:05:27] This is too big of a time commitment.

[00:05:29] This is too scary to look at.

[00:05:30] So maybe if I do one season at a time, it'd be easier to like

[00:05:33] actually get through not looking at, you know, whatever, 300 episodes.

[00:05:38] I'm looking at 13 or 20 or whatever a season is.

[00:05:41] It's a less daunting task.

[00:05:43] Yes. So but I had fun.

[00:05:44] I liked it and it was cool because, you know, I don't like we talked about

[00:05:47] when we talked about Broly, you know, I watched Dragon Ball as a kid on

[00:05:51] Tunaami and all that stuff and really liked it.

[00:05:55] Dragon Ball Z specifically at that time.

[00:05:57] I was having fun with that, but I don't really remember any of it.

[00:05:59] You know, it's probably been since like, I don't know, fifth or sixth

[00:06:02] grade or something at that point when I was like actually watching it since

[00:06:05] since then. So having a little bit of familiarity from just those five episodes

[00:06:10] to be like, oh, that's Emperor Pilaf.

[00:06:12] Oh, that's the pig guy.

[00:06:13] Oh, you know, like whatever other than the big iconic, you know, like Goku and

[00:06:18] Piccolo and Vegeta and like all those guys.

[00:06:19] Sure. I recognize.

[00:06:21] So that was fun in going into this movie.

[00:06:22] And then also Beerus is in Broly.

[00:06:25] And he's like, oh, this is neat.

[00:06:27] This is like his introduction.

[00:06:28] It's all coming together.

[00:06:29] Yes, it's all coming together.

[00:06:31] And we are going to talk about it in depth right now.

[00:06:34] It's time to talk about Dragon Ball Z Battle of Gods.

[00:06:40] Long ago, a small group of pure hearted Saiyans

[00:06:43] pulled their powers to create a savior, a Super Saiyan God.

[00:06:56] Lord Beerus, it's time, time to wake up.

[00:06:58] Did you not prophesize that in 39 years time, an arch rival worthy of me would appear?

[00:07:04] A great Saiyan.

[00:07:06] He answers to both the names Kakarot and Goku.

[00:07:11] So I take it this means you intend to pay a visit to the Saiyans.

[00:07:15] I must track down the so called Super Saiyan.

[00:07:18] A fascinating adversary is due to emerge.

[00:07:21] Just go back to where you came from.

[00:07:25] Go ahead and come at me with everything you've got.

[00:07:29] Let's kick things up a notch, yeah?

[00:07:32] Arthur!

[00:07:37] I don't think it was possible.

[00:07:38] You're a true prodigy like you I've ever seen.

[00:07:41] A Super Saiyan God.

[00:07:44] This ends now.

[00:07:47] Eva, I'd accept your planet's fate.

[00:07:50] Looks like they're wrapping it up.

[00:07:53] It's all over me now.

[00:07:55] Damn it!

[00:07:58] I am a Saiyan that was raised on planet Earth.

[00:08:04] I will defeat you!

[00:08:08] So tell me, how does it feel becoming a God?

[00:08:11] How does it feel becoming a God?

[00:08:18] All right, that was some of the trailer for Dragon Ball Z Battle of Gods from 2013,

[00:08:23] directed by Masahiro Hosada.

[00:08:25] And yeah, we were actually given the choice between two different Dragon Ball

[00:08:29] movies to watch for this episode from our Kofi Donator.

[00:08:32] And basically he said we could watch either this movie, Dragon Ball Z Battle of Gods,

[00:08:35] or Dragon Ball Super Super Hero, which is the most recent Dragon Ball movie.

[00:08:40] I remember when that one came out because that was coming out right about the time

[00:08:43] I started my Dragon Ball rewatch.

[00:08:46] That was about two years ago.

[00:08:47] And to recap, I've always been a big Dragon Ball fan.

[00:08:50] I was mostly a DBZ kid because that's what was on TV all the time when we were kids.

[00:08:55] For whatever reason, the original Dragon Ball didn't play that often.

[00:08:58] It was always Dragon Ball Z, which is weird because it's like the second part of the story.

[00:09:02] You're missing the entire origin of Goku and all that stuff.

[00:09:05] Yeah, but I guess you mostly get it, right?

[00:09:07] Oh, yeah. I mean, they recap it a lot and all that kind of stuff.

[00:09:10] But it is weird watching Dragon Ball Z where like, you know, three episodes into

[00:09:15] this new show, Dragon Ball Z, Goku dies.

[00:09:20] And it turns out he's an alien, like, you know, and he has like a long lost

[00:09:23] brother who's evil and all that kind of stuff.

[00:09:25] And all this stuff gets like dumped on you in the first like two or three

[00:09:28] episodes of Dragon Ball Z.

[00:09:29] And if you are just jumping into the show, that's wild.

[00:09:32] But like if you have all the context of the previous 180 episodes of Dragon Ball,

[00:09:36] it's like, whoa. Yeah. You know?

[00:09:39] So yeah, that's that's always fun.

[00:09:41] I forget where I was going with that.

[00:09:42] The point is that TVZ was what was on when we were kids.

[00:09:45] Exactly. Yeah.

[00:09:46] And so I was watching Dragon Ball right around the time Dragon Ball Super

[00:09:49] superhero came out and I was like considering going to see it in theaters.

[00:09:52] And I didn't because I was like, well, you know,

[00:09:54] I'm going to watch it when I can get to the end of this whole Dragon Ball

[00:09:58] watch because I've never watched Dragon Ball Super.

[00:09:59] I still haven't update to the episode from a few months ago.

[00:10:02] I still have yet to watch Dragon Ball Super because I'm watching Dragon Ball

[00:10:05] Z first. Yeah, I haven't gotten there.

[00:10:07] Got to get through Z and it's going to be a while because Dragon Ball Z is very long.

[00:10:11] I'm at the tail end of season three.

[00:10:13] There are nine seasons.

[00:10:15] My God.

[00:10:16] Yeah, several hundred episodes to go.

[00:10:18] So it's going to be a while until I get to Super.

[00:10:20] So I chose not to watch Dragon Ball Super superhero because Dragon Ball Super

[00:10:24] Broly, I mean, I got it.

[00:10:25] I really enjoyed it.

[00:10:26] But it was one of those things where it's like, oh man,

[00:10:28] I feel like I'm jumping right into the middle of a story that I haven't

[00:10:30] gotten to yet. And Super Hero, I think would probably feel the same way

[00:10:33] where Dragon Ball Z Battle of Gods is like, OK, this picks up after Dragon Ball

[00:10:37] Z, but before Dragon Ball Super.

[00:10:39] Perfect. I got that.

[00:10:42] I know that timeline down.

[00:10:44] Yeah. I mean, and honestly, just like to talk about the movie,

[00:10:46] it's a battle of gods compared to Broly.

[00:10:49] This movie starts with like, you know, a two or three minute recap

[00:10:52] like it of what happened in Dragon Ball Z for the most part, I think.

[00:10:56] Yeah, I think this is a better introduction

[00:10:58] to Dragon Ball than Dragon Ball Super Broly was.

[00:11:01] Absolutely. For me, yeah.

[00:11:02] I had a lot of fun, especially because it seems like

[00:11:04] by the time Super is coming around, things are like a little different

[00:11:07] and like there's some different continuities or whatever.

[00:11:09] So I remember us talking about that being like, well, I thought this guy was

[00:11:12] this and it's like a little bit different in Broly.

[00:11:15] But in DBZ, this is sort of like what I'm familiar with and big old

[00:11:19] big old air quotes on familiar rights.

[00:11:21] But so for to have it to have for it to have that couple of minutes like,

[00:11:25] oh, and then they met these people, they met Bulma and then Vegeta.

[00:11:28] And like, you know, there's like just the bat they bought they fought.

[00:11:30] I can't remember any other names now.

[00:11:32] Yeah, Frieza, set, Boo.

[00:11:34] Yeah, all that stuff, all that stuff.

[00:11:36] So they recap all that and then you have and then the movie starts

[00:11:38] and that's fun.

[00:11:39] Yeah. And I also think this is more of I think Super Dragon Ball Super Broly.

[00:11:43] I really enjoy it, but it is a weirdly structured movie where you're

[00:11:46] watching like a half hour of the Saiyans plan to get destroyed.

[00:11:49] And then you're watching a half hour of like Broly on his own planet.

[00:11:51] And then you find you finally get to like, oh, Goku and Vegeta,

[00:11:55] like 45 minutes into the movie.

[00:11:57] Right.

[00:11:58] And you know, they're there.

[00:11:59] It's they basically have like, you know, the events of Dragon Ball Super

[00:12:02] Broly take place over like the course of an afternoon.

[00:12:04] And, you know, they they're there for that one big fight.

[00:12:07] And that's kind of it.

[00:12:07] Like that's that's the whole movie.

[00:12:09] It's fun, liked it a lot.

[00:12:10] Yeah. But this feels like a more like full.

[00:12:12] I mean, I guess this also takes place over the course of an afternoon.

[00:12:15] That's very dense.

[00:12:16] Yeah. I think it's all taking place at Bulma's birthday party.

[00:12:19] But I don't know.

[00:12:20] I liked that it feels like a more fully formed thing.

[00:12:23] I mean, A, I think it's more fun.

[00:12:25] So this was like, this is after Dragon Ball Z was off the air.

[00:12:28] It was before Dragon Ball Super started.

[00:12:29] Actually, this movie is the basis for the first season of Dragon Ball Super.

[00:12:33] Oh, really? Yeah.

[00:12:34] So there were two Dragon Ball Z movies in the 2010s.

[00:12:36] It was this and Resurrection F, which is where they bring back Frieza.

[00:12:40] And then these two movies became like the first and second seasons of Dragon

[00:12:44] Ball Super, like they just kind of took these movies and then expanded them

[00:12:47] like just kind of like change the plot a little bit or whatever.

[00:12:50] So that's also part of why I wanted to watch this one

[00:12:53] because it's like, well, I'm going to go to Dragon Ball Super

[00:12:54] and I'll be like, oh, I'll be able to see how it expanded, you know,

[00:12:57] turn it into a thing.

[00:12:58] So like technically, I think the movie is like sort of considered

[00:13:01] non-canon because they do it again in Dragon Ball.

[00:13:04] Right. That makes sense. Yeah.

[00:13:06] But yeah, this is and this was like the first like post Dragon Ball Z

[00:13:10] movie and it had been a while since there had been any Dragon Ball stuff.

[00:13:13] And I do remember this coming out and a few of my friends being excited for it.

[00:13:17] And I think if I was a little bit younger or a little bit older,

[00:13:20] I would have been all about it.

[00:13:21] But it was just like it came out when I was 20.

[00:13:23] I was too cool for right now.

[00:13:24] And that's where you care what other people think.

[00:13:26] So you can't. Yeah.

[00:13:28] Exactly, you know, I was deep in my I was I was watching, you know,

[00:13:32] Tokyo story of my film class.

[00:13:33] I have time for Dragon Ball Z Battle of Gods.

[00:13:37] I have cinema to watch.

[00:13:39] Yes. Now we realize that Dragon Ball

[00:13:41] Z Battle of Gods is what cinema is all about.

[00:13:44] Correct. His hair is pink in this one.

[00:13:46] It's what cinema is for. Exactly.

[00:13:49] Yeah. But I did find that this movie did feel easier to follow compared to Broly.

[00:13:56] Yeah.

[00:13:56] It's just like a long a plot sense.

[00:13:59] Not that we're going to compare it to Broly, I guess the whole time.

[00:14:01] But sure. But Broly is also like much deeper in Dragon Ball lore

[00:14:04] that you kind of have to be familiar with. Right?

[00:14:06] Yeah. Yeah. And and this one starting with basically just like,

[00:14:10] you know, a slice of life birthday party for like 30 minutes or whatever.

[00:14:14] Yeah. It's most of the movie is like hanging out at a bonus party.

[00:14:17] It's so much fun.

[00:14:21] Yeah. And Lord Beerus is awesome.

[00:14:23] And I remember him showing up in Broly, right?

[00:14:25] But he's on the team already or something.

[00:14:27] I think in Broly, he's like just hanging out by the pool

[00:14:30] like while Goku and Vegeta are fighting.

[00:14:32] Yeah, that's right. Like that, which, which like,

[00:14:34] I don't know exactly how we get to there from here, but like it kind of tracks

[00:14:38] like based on based on Beerus in this movie, I can see him at that point.

[00:14:41] Yes, absolutely.

[00:14:43] So he was really cool and just the whole idea that he's, you know,

[00:14:46] the God of destruction and all that stuff.

[00:14:48] He's so powerful.

[00:14:49] He's he scares all the guys and like scares everybody

[00:14:53] and the whole stick of Goku just being like, well, I have to fight him.

[00:14:56] Like I have to try to have to prove myself, of course.

[00:14:58] Yes, which is super fun.

[00:15:00] I do like that's a trick that that's the Dragon Ball always goes to

[00:15:03] is it's literally every time you get to a new story,

[00:15:06] Ark and Dragon Ball, the previous arc has been like Goku achieving a power

[00:15:10] that like no person has ever achieved before in order to defeat this

[00:15:13] like new villain who is stronger than anyone has ever been.

[00:15:15] And he finally does it.

[00:15:16] And then the next arc comes around and this next guy is even stronger

[00:15:19] than the previous guy.

[00:15:21] It's so fun.

[00:15:22] And so Goku has to go to another level of untold power

[00:15:25] to defeat them.

[00:15:28] I mean, it's such a fun, it is such a like a silly bit,

[00:15:31] but it is such a fun like a sense of progression, right?

[00:15:35] To be like, what, how could he get out of this one?

[00:15:37] No way, this is good, buddy.

[00:15:38] Just defeated the last guy. Oh my God.

[00:15:42] That should rule, you know.

[00:15:43] Yeah, it's fantastic. Love it.

[00:15:44] Yeah, I also liked, I think, you know, one, again,

[00:15:47] I really like Dragon Ball Super Broly, but like one problem that I have

[00:15:50] with that movie or like not really a problem, but like, I remember commenting

[00:15:53] this in the episode was like, man, I miss seeing all my buddies.

[00:15:56] Like there's not a lot of tertiary Dragon Ball characters.

[00:15:59] Like where's Krillin? Where's Yamcha?

[00:16:01] Where, you know, all that kind of stuff.

[00:16:02] And this has everybody.

[00:16:04] This has almost every like major Dragon Ball character popping up.

[00:16:07] Like the idea of all of them just being at Bulma's 38th birthday party

[00:16:10] is like, hey, great, they're all here and they're all here to be able to,

[00:16:14] you know, they see the threat of Lord Beerus, but they're mostly just

[00:16:16] hanging out and having fun, which is great.

[00:16:19] There's a moment, there's a lot of great comedy mind with like Vegeta

[00:16:22] trying to like be like like the guy who's calming Beerus down.

[00:16:26] He had to like be the normal guy.

[00:16:27] He's got to be the straight guy.

[00:16:28] Yes. So funny.

[00:16:30] Just try to just try to be chill and like make sure Beerus doesn't get

[00:16:32] pissed off and he does this like whole dance to the bingo

[00:16:35] to try to calm him down, which is very funny.

[00:16:37] There's also like a frame of Piccolo doing karaoke.

[00:16:40] And I got to know what song Piccolo's.

[00:16:45] I don't know. It was very good.

[00:16:47] And then I love the escalation of that too, right?

[00:16:49] That like these are all the most powerful beings on earth of the universe or whatever.

[00:16:53] So like when when Ploff and his crew try to steal one of the Dragon Balls,

[00:16:57] they like spin it as like a bit they're all doing

[00:17:00] because Ploff and his friends don't know that these are all the most

[00:17:03] powerful people on earth.

[00:17:04] Yes. So funny, which is so funny.

[00:17:07] And I think it's so funny that those characters are included in this movie.

[00:17:11] Just because, you know, like you watch the first few episodes of Dragon Balls,

[00:17:14] so you know who Ploff is, which is great.

[00:17:16] But Ploff is like he's the first antagonist in the entire Dragon Ball saga.

[00:17:20] And he's like a joke.

[00:17:22] Yeah. So it's so weird how like how the whole series progresses.

[00:17:27] And Ploff was the first guy they were fighting against.

[00:17:29] And for some reason, like he's basically like very rarely brought up

[00:17:34] after the original Dragon Ball series. OK.

[00:17:36] And for some reason, they brought him back in here and it's like,

[00:17:38] man, the gang's really all back.

[00:17:40] Yeah. Oh, which is great.

[00:17:41] And I'm not sure when this happens.

[00:17:43] Maybe it happens in Dragon Ball Z, but somehow they make a wish to turn

[00:17:46] themselves into kids by accident and they do recap that in this movie.

[00:17:50] Yes. And so Ploff and Mai and the dog are all just in kids bodies now.

[00:17:55] Yeah. Yeah.

[00:17:56] And they're all like pretending they're all like trying to be like chummy

[00:17:59] with Goten and Trunks in order to get the Dragon Ball and it's good stuff.

[00:18:02] Yeah. And Trunks pretend lies that that's his girlfriend.

[00:18:04] Yes. Hold hands.

[00:18:07] This is all moving too fast for me.

[00:18:08] I was my favorite line in the movie is when my like turns around

[00:18:13] like hold hands all because these days disgusting perverts.

[00:18:19] So funny.

[00:18:21] And I think that might be the thing that edges this out for me against Broly

[00:18:25] to keep, I guess, that's all we're going to keep doing.

[00:18:26] But this one feels like it has a lot more

[00:18:30] like there is certainly humor and stuff in Broly.

[00:18:32] And I remember there was that one like crew that's like up there,

[00:18:35] like fighter pilots or whatever.

[00:18:37] One of them is like a dog guy or something also in Broly, right?

[00:18:40] That like are very funny.

[00:18:41] But this one has a battle of gods.

[00:18:43] It has a lot more comedy stuff going on before or and besides

[00:18:47] all the big fighting and things.

[00:18:49] Yeah. And it's really just like the characters bouncing off each other,

[00:18:51] which is which is great.

[00:18:52] And yeah, I do love that bit where like they you know,

[00:18:55] they are they are caught with the Dragon Ball and Mai pulls a gun

[00:18:58] on Trunks and everybody's just like, OK, like is this like,

[00:19:01] oh, the kids are doing like a little like play or whatever.

[00:19:03] Ha ha. That's Trunks.

[00:19:04] He's a super Saiyan.

[00:19:06] Yeah. Yeah.

[00:19:08] And then Gohan rips off his costume and he's the great Saiyan man

[00:19:10] underneath, which is great.

[00:19:12] Yeah. I mean, there's a lot of like fan

[00:19:14] servicey bits here, which is fun.

[00:19:15] Gohan turning into the great Saiyan man,

[00:19:17] go to and Trunks doing the go tanks fusion dance

[00:19:20] and all that stuff.

[00:19:21] Yeah, it's fun stuff.

[00:19:22] Good stuff. And then on top of that, too,

[00:19:24] the fight is there are all the fighting with Lord Beerus

[00:19:27] is very exciting and interesting.

[00:19:29] And there's multiple fights with different people

[00:19:31] and like different phases of it.

[00:19:33] And it didn't it didn't feel like, you know,

[00:19:35] I guess like, you know, the back half of the movie is just

[00:19:38] fighting, but it didn't feel like it was with Broly,

[00:19:41] where it was a single fight for 35 minutes or whatever it was.

[00:19:44] Right.

[00:19:44] And you just kind of like lose interest.

[00:19:46] It's like, for me, I remember us talking about that being

[00:19:48] like, well, OK, he goes Super Saiyan.

[00:19:50] Oh, he's Super Saiyan too.

[00:19:51] Oh, OK, but like, you know,

[00:19:52] it's just like a progression of a single fight.

[00:19:54] And this is multiple people failing,

[00:19:56] trying different things and all that stuff.

[00:19:58] So it was a more interesting,

[00:19:59] exciting fight for me in the back half of the movie

[00:20:01] where it wasn't just we're just drawing a planet while we fight.

[00:20:04] You know, like that was sort of it.

[00:20:05] I remember for Broly.

[00:20:07] Yeah. But in this, it's cool.

[00:20:08] You know, you got Vegeta in there.

[00:20:09] You got the Gotangs.

[00:20:10] You got everybody. Everybody's going.

[00:20:11] Yeah. You got all them.

[00:20:12] And there's the yeah, there's like one moment where just like,

[00:20:14] oh, everybody at the party is trying to throw

[00:20:16] like a punch in at Beerus and it's like, oh man,

[00:20:17] there's Krillin. There's Android 18.

[00:20:19] There's Chow Tzu. There's Tien.

[00:20:20] There's all these people.

[00:20:21] And yeah, it's great.

[00:20:22] I think they are missing Yajirobi, my boy,

[00:20:25] who you have not met yet.

[00:20:26] I don't know how that is.

[00:20:27] I don't think you know Yajirobi.

[00:20:28] He shows up like towards the tail end of Dragon Ball

[00:20:31] like in the King Piccolo saga.

[00:20:32] And he plays a key part of the first,

[00:20:34] like the Saiyan saga in Dragon Ball Z

[00:20:36] where he's the one who chops off Vegeta's tail.

[00:20:38] And then from there, he like basically doesn't exist.

[00:20:40] He like doesn't do anything.

[00:20:43] I mean, you had a picture of him

[00:20:44] and I don't recognize him at all.

[00:20:45] Yeah. He's, you know, a bigger dude

[00:20:47] who's mostly focused on eating food.

[00:20:49] And yeah, occasionally he helped save the world,

[00:20:51] but he wasn't at the party

[00:20:52] and I was a little bummed about that.

[00:20:53] But almost everybody else is here, which is great.

[00:20:55] Love to see everyone else.

[00:20:57] And yeah, I think all the fights with Beerus

[00:20:59] are really cool.

[00:20:59] And yeah, I think Beerus himself was really fun.

[00:21:02] Like a really engaging like antagonist for them

[00:21:05] and somebody who, you know, he's an antagonist

[00:21:07] but also doesn't seem like that invested

[00:21:09] in being the antagonist.

[00:21:11] And he's much more interested in just like

[00:21:13] he wants to hang out at the party.

[00:21:14] He wants to have all the good food that Earth provides.

[00:21:16] He wants that pudding.

[00:21:16] Yeah, he wants that pudding.

[00:21:18] Which is also a great bit

[00:21:20] that Majin Buu ate all the pudding.

[00:21:21] Yeah.

[00:21:22] I love to, there's a bit earlier

[00:21:25] when Beerus is first wakes up or whatever

[00:21:28] and he's explaining his prophecy,

[00:21:30] that his dream that he had

[00:21:32] where he's gonna fight a Super Saiyan God or something.

[00:21:34] And they're like, well, we gotta teleport to Earth

[00:21:37] or actually I don't remember if it's Earth first.

[00:21:39] I think it's when they go to where Goku is training.

[00:21:41] They go to King Kai's planet.

[00:21:43] King Kai, yeah.

[00:21:43] And he's like, well, how long will it take us

[00:21:45] to get there?

[00:21:46] And like we's or whatever his assistant.

[00:21:49] It's like 26 minutes.

[00:21:50] Yeah, and Beerus was like,

[00:21:51] hmm about the average length of an anime episode.

[00:21:53] Interesting.

[00:21:54] And then they just like teleport away.

[00:21:55] Like what?

[00:21:57] Very fun.

[00:21:58] Yes.

[00:21:59] That was a great like fourth wall breaking joke.

[00:22:00] Which I really enjoyed.

[00:22:02] And honestly, like with the death of Akira Toriyama,

[00:22:04] which RIP I was very upset to hear the news.

[00:22:07] Like I've been seeing a lot of Dragon Ball posting

[00:22:08] over the last month or so on Twitter

[00:22:10] and all that kind of stuff.

[00:22:11] And one of my favorite threads was like,

[00:22:13] all the time his Dragon Ball broke the fourth wall.

[00:22:16] Which they do a lot more in the manga

[00:22:18] than they do in the anime.

[00:22:19] But in the manga, like Akira Toriyama

[00:22:21] is an actual like character

[00:22:22] that just pops up every once in a while.

[00:22:24] That's fun.

[00:22:25] And like the characters will just like blame him

[00:22:26] for random things that happen.

[00:22:28] But one of my favorite moments in Dragon Ball,

[00:22:30] I think this is both in the manga and the anime,

[00:22:32] is it's in the original series of Dragon Ball.

[00:22:34] They're at the World Martial Arts Tournament.

[00:22:36] Krillin is fighting this guy

[00:22:38] who uses like the power of like his bad odor

[00:22:40] to defeat people.

[00:22:42] Okay.

[00:22:42] He stinks so bad that like, you know,

[00:22:44] his opponents are like blinded by the smell

[00:22:46] and like can't fight and get defeated.

[00:22:48] And Krillin is like, you know,

[00:22:49] he's losing to this guy.

[00:22:50] And then Gohan shouts at him like,

[00:22:52] Krillin, you don't have a nose.

[00:22:55] And Krillin's like, whoa, you're right.

[00:22:57] And he beats the guy.

[00:22:59] Amazing.

[00:23:01] Just great stuff.

[00:23:02] Yeah. Also I love Vegeta.

[00:23:03] Like Vegeta we talked about a little bit

[00:23:05] as like, you know, kind of the straight man

[00:23:06] trying to keep it together with Beerus.

[00:23:08] But yeah, I loved Vegeta in this movie.

[00:23:10] There's a couple moments in this movie

[00:23:11] that hit really hard for me

[00:23:12] partially because I've been watching Dragon Ball Z.

[00:23:15] One of which is when Gohan finds out

[00:23:17] that Videl is pregnant.

[00:23:18] Yes.

[00:23:19] Because I think it's a genuinely

[00:23:21] like really great moment where he's so excited

[00:23:23] and so happy.

[00:23:23] And I've been watching, you know,

[00:23:25] the first couple of seasons of Dragon Ball Z

[00:23:26] where Gohan is a kid.

[00:23:28] And I was like, oh man, Gohan's come so far.

[00:23:30] He's made it, man.

[00:23:34] Which was fun.

[00:23:35] But then also with Vegeta and like the way he,

[00:23:37] you know, he like genuinely has love

[00:23:39] and affection for Bulma and Trunks.

[00:23:40] Ultimate life guy Vegeta apparently.

[00:23:42] Yeah.

[00:23:43] Which, you know, watching the first three seasons

[00:23:45] of Dragon Ball Z, man, it's crazy

[00:23:47] that that villain to hero progression.

[00:23:49] Like they do that a few times in Dragon Ball.

[00:23:51] Like Piccolo was one of those

[00:23:52] all that kind of stuff, but Vegeta, man.

[00:23:54] It's like when Vegeta shows up in Dragon Ball Z,

[00:23:57] he and his partner Nappa kill all of your friends.

[00:24:00] Like they kill Tien.

[00:24:02] They kill Tien, Yamcha, Piccolo and Chow Tzu

[00:24:05] like all in a row.

[00:24:06] Like all at once.

[00:24:07] Like all four of those guys.

[00:24:09] And then when like Goku finally shows up

[00:24:12] and defeats Nappa, Vegeta then kills his partner Nappa

[00:24:15] for not defeating Goku.

[00:24:16] Holy shit.

[00:24:17] He's like the baddest of the bad, right?

[00:24:19] And then as the seasons go on,

[00:24:21] like I'm in season three now

[00:24:22] and I just got to the part where Vegeta dies.

[00:24:24] Frieza kills Vegeta.

[00:24:26] And when Frieza kills Vegeta,

[00:24:27] it's the most heartbreaking thing.

[00:24:29] It was so emotional because yeah, at that point

[00:24:32] like Vegeta had been a bad guy

[00:24:34] and like at some point in the Namak Frieza saga,

[00:24:37] he sort of has to work with Gohan and Krillin

[00:24:40] and Goku and all that kind of stuff.

[00:24:41] And he has this like really heartfelt monologue

[00:24:43] to Goku as he's dying about like Frieza

[00:24:46] and like how devastating he is

[00:24:47] and how you can't pull your punches

[00:24:48] and all that kind of stuff.

[00:24:50] Yeah, to watch that after,

[00:24:52] it's a really effectively done redemption arc for Vegeta

[00:24:55] which pretty wild.

[00:24:56] And it's still on go, like the thing about it

[00:24:59] is it goes throughout the entire series of Dragon Ball Z

[00:25:01] where it's like people don't accept Vegeta

[00:25:03] as a good guy right away, including himself.

[00:25:06] He doesn't want to be a good guy for a very long time.

[00:25:08] I mean, it's sort of like the Fast and the Furious thing,

[00:25:11] right?

[00:25:12] Like by the next movie,

[00:25:13] the villain is a part of the family now kind of thing.

[00:25:14] Yes.

[00:25:17] Oh he loves that.

[00:25:17] I think Fast and the Furious took more than a few cues

[00:25:19] from the Dragon Ball Z.

[00:25:20] I think you're right.

[00:25:21] Yeah.

[00:25:23] But yeah, what else in Dragon Ball Z battle of God

[00:25:25] should we talk about, Mike?

[00:25:26] I think it's just fun,

[00:25:28] like even me not having a super familiar,

[00:25:31] nostalgia or anything for a lot of these characters

[00:25:33] but just in general like we've been talking about

[00:25:35] the having them all be at the party is just fun.

[00:25:38] Like we're like, oh that's Piccolo,

[00:25:39] that's whatever blah blah blah.

[00:25:40] That's those guys.

[00:25:41] And who's the guy that seems like he's like Randy Savage

[00:25:44] or whatever, like he's just like a regular wrestler?

[00:25:47] Yeah, that's Mr. Satan.

[00:25:50] Also known as Hercules.

[00:25:52] Yeah, he's a, I think he's the world's martial arts

[00:25:54] tournament champion in Dragon Ball Z

[00:25:57] but only because like the Z fighters have like

[00:25:59] moved beyond competing in that tournament.

[00:26:01] Amazing.

[00:26:02] And so yeah, I think he's the champion for that

[00:26:04] like one year or whatever until maybe

[00:26:06] I actually haven't gotten that far,

[00:26:07] like up to that point,

[00:26:08] I forget exactly how it works.

[00:26:09] But yeah, he gets involved somehow

[00:26:11] and Gohan starts dating his daughter, Videl.

[00:26:13] And then he is the one who strikes up

[00:26:15] a real friendship with Majin Buu

[00:26:17] and then Majin Buu like becomes like the evil versions of Buu

[00:26:20] but then he comes back, he turns into Majin Buu again.

[00:26:22] He's great.

[00:26:23] He's great.

[00:26:24] Yeah, he's very fun.

[00:26:25] I just like him, I guess you know whatever.

[00:26:27] He's basically just like a normal human.

[00:26:31] And like he keeps starting fights

[00:26:33] like against these gods.

[00:26:35] Very funny throughout the movie.

[00:26:38] And yeah, what else is there about this movie?

[00:26:39] Other than that it's a lot of fun

[00:26:41] and it's exciting and it's cool.

[00:26:42] And I think it's a pretty straightforward structure

[00:26:45] and it's pretty easy to follow,

[00:26:47] at least for me having that passing familiarity.

[00:26:49] I think maybe that was the difference

[00:26:50] between this and Broly was,

[00:26:52] I don't know what's going on in Super at all.

[00:26:54] So like there were some things that were different

[00:26:56] and I was like, well, I thought this guy was already

[00:26:58] good or bad.

[00:26:59] I forget what it was at the beginning of the movie

[00:27:01] that was very confused by.

[00:27:03] Maybe it was Frieza, is Frieza in Super?

[00:27:04] No.

[00:27:05] Yeah, he's in Super Broly

[00:27:07] because he's the one who is going to earth

[00:27:09] for the dragon balls.

[00:27:10] Just wants to be taller, right?

[00:27:11] He wants to be taller.

[00:27:12] Yeah, yeah.

[00:27:13] That was very funny.

[00:27:14] I forgot about that.

[00:27:15] Yeah, so yeah it was cool.

[00:27:17] And then I love actually the moment in Battle of the Gods

[00:27:21] when they call, is it Shionian?

[00:27:24] Or what's the dragon's name?

[00:27:25] Oh, Shenron.

[00:27:26] Shenron, when they call Shenron and he's afraid of...

[00:27:29] And Shenron's like scared of Beerus?

[00:27:30] Yeah, he's afraid of Beerus.

[00:27:33] That's such a funny bit.

[00:27:34] Yes.

[00:27:35] He's like, oh, it hurts when we have stories

[00:27:36] of Beerus.

[00:27:37] He's like all excited and nervous to be around Beerus.

[00:27:39] Very good.

[00:27:41] Yes, yeah and I do love that the people

[00:27:42] who are familiar with Beerus

[00:27:44] are just genuinely freaked out by him.

[00:27:46] And yeah, it's one of those things.

[00:27:48] I love that he sleeps for like 50 years at a time

[00:27:51] and then he wakes up, does some destroying

[00:27:53] and then goes back to sleep.

[00:27:54] Goes back to bed, yeah.

[00:27:55] And of course the fight between Goku and Beerus

[00:27:58] when they transfer the powers or whatever into Goku

[00:28:02] and turn him into the Super Saiyan God

[00:28:04] in his hair is pink.

[00:28:05] Which I guess is where Godzilla got it

[00:28:07] for Godzilla Kong, right?

[00:28:11] So that's fine.

[00:28:12] And Godzilla is actually the next phase of Super Saiyan.

[00:28:17] And then, you know, they kind of talk,

[00:28:19] I think Piccolo or somebody says

[00:28:21] that like the way that Beerus is fighting Goku

[00:28:22] is basically he seems like he's training Goku, right?

[00:28:25] And like he kind of makes him realize

[00:28:27] he had the power within him all along.

[00:28:28] Right, yeah.

[00:28:29] I mean at the end of the movie

[00:28:30] they mentioned that Beerus has been fighting

[00:28:32] with like 70% of his fighting power or something.

[00:28:34] Like he was holding back.

[00:28:36] But so was Goku and that's the-

[00:28:37] But so was Goku, yeah.

[00:28:39] That's my favorite.

[00:28:39] I've also not left-handed.

[00:28:42] Princess Bride is basically what happens there.

[00:28:45] And Beerus gets like all pissed off.

[00:28:46] He's like, what? You've been holding back?

[00:28:48] And that's when he starts like

[00:28:48] throwing the blast satum or whatever.

[00:28:50] Right, yes.

[00:28:51] And yeah, and then he basically trains Goku

[00:28:54] because you realize the God power wears off

[00:28:57] in the middle of the fight

[00:28:57] but Goku doesn't realize it.

[00:28:59] He's had the strength within him all along

[00:29:01] because it's Dragon Ball Z.

[00:29:02] Exactly, yeah.

[00:29:03] And I like that aspect of Goku

[00:29:04] where he's not like an arrogant dude most of the time.

[00:29:07] He's mostly like a pretty like

[00:29:09] Goku just likes to fight.

[00:29:10] He just enjoys fighting.

[00:29:12] It's cool.

[00:29:12] There's moments, I think it's in the Cell saga

[00:29:16] which I haven't gotten to in my rewatch yet

[00:29:17] but there's a moment where like

[00:29:18] he could have easily defeated Cell

[00:29:20] like after like the entire saga

[00:29:22] and then he gives Cell a Senzu bean

[00:29:24] which heals him back to full health

[00:29:25] just so they can continue fighting.

[00:29:27] That's amazing.

[00:29:29] And it rules.

[00:29:31] Goku's just so like chill

[00:29:32] and confident in his own abilities.

[00:29:34] But he's always like, you know, just there

[00:29:36] like he's always aware

[00:29:37] that there's going to be someone stronger

[00:29:38] that he has to fight, right?

[00:29:40] That's sort of his thing.

[00:29:41] Yeah, yeah.

[00:29:42] He overcomes that and is doing the training thing.

[00:29:43] And I like we got to see some Kamehameha's in this one

[00:29:46] even though it's the one that he's training

[00:29:48] on King Kai's planet.

[00:29:49] I think he maybe does one to Lord Beerus.

[00:29:51] I don't remember.

[00:29:52] Maybe, yeah.

[00:29:53] But yeah, and I do love that when he first shows up

[00:29:55] like when Beerus first shows up on the planet

[00:29:57] he like Goku was like,

[00:29:57] oh, I want to challenge you to a fight.

[00:29:59] Like you seem really strong.

[00:30:00] Let's fight.

[00:30:00] And he like, you know, goes to Super Saiyan 3.

[00:30:02] He does the thing and is immediately defeated.

[00:30:04] Yeah, one blow.

[00:30:05] Yeah, which shows you, you know

[00:30:07] how big of a threat Lord Beerus is.

[00:30:09] That's the thing.

[00:30:10] That's what they do in Avengers Infinity War

[00:30:11] when, you know, the Hulk attacks Thanos

[00:30:13] and just gets defeated so easily.

[00:30:15] It's like, oh shit, Thanos is stronger than the Hulk.

[00:30:17] What's going to happen?

[00:30:18] Oh no, how are they going to get out of this one?

[00:30:19] Yes.

[00:30:20] Which actually honestly,

[00:30:21] a lot of what this movie reminded me of

[00:30:23] was my favorite Avengers movie

[00:30:25] which is Avengers Age of Ultron.

[00:30:26] Oh, okay.

[00:30:27] Because Age of Ultron also devotes

[00:30:28] a lot of time to a party scene

[00:30:29] where you're just watching

[00:30:30] like these characters hang out.

[00:30:32] Just watching them chill at the party.

[00:30:34] That's your point.

[00:30:36] When Captain America makes the hammer wiggle

[00:30:38] that one time.

[00:30:39] Yes, which I don't think was meant to be foreshadowing

[00:30:41] for like end game, but like it worked out.

[00:30:44] You know?

[00:30:45] Yeah, it was all there.

[00:30:46] Yeah.

[00:30:47] What else about Battle of the Gods?

[00:30:49] Ooh, the Battle of the Gods.

[00:30:51] I mean, great title honestly.

[00:30:53] It is a good title, yeah, absolutely.

[00:30:54] And I do like that sequence

[00:30:56] where Goku does become Super Saiyan God

[00:30:58] where they, you know,

[00:30:59] Shenron tells them how to do it basically.

[00:31:01] Right, that's their wish.

[00:31:02] Which seems like a waste of a wish.

[00:31:03] They could have.

[00:31:05] But I do like how impatient Shenron

[00:31:07] was about the wish thing.

[00:31:09] He's like, okay, come on.

[00:31:10] I gave you your knowledge.

[00:31:11] That's the wish, you're done.

[00:31:12] Yeah.

[00:31:13] I'm outta here.

[00:31:14] Yeah, but so they do the wish.

[00:31:16] They get the Dragon Balls together

[00:31:17] and then they basically learn

[00:31:19] they have to have like five Saiyans together

[00:31:21] in order to like transfer all their energy

[00:31:22] into one Saiyan

[00:31:23] and they can become the Super Saiyan God

[00:31:25] and Vegeta is like a little annoyed

[00:31:26] that it's not him.

[00:31:27] Yeah.

[00:31:28] And but they do it and it doesn't work.

[00:31:30] And then they finally realize like,

[00:31:31] oh, you actually need,

[00:31:32] you misunderstood, you need six people.

[00:31:34] Like five people to transfer their power

[00:31:35] into one person,

[00:31:37] but they don't have a six Saiyan or do they?

[00:31:39] What twist?

[00:31:40] Yes.

[00:31:41] And I like that they plant the seed earlier in the movie

[00:31:44] like just at a moment when Videl gets shot after...

[00:31:47] Yeah.

[00:31:48] I forgot about that.

[00:31:50] When Videl gets shot after peel off

[00:31:51] and their gang's like little like stunt show

[00:31:53] and like great Saiyaman does his thing.

[00:31:55] It's like, hey, those are real bullets.

[00:31:56] You could should be playing with those.

[00:31:57] Yeah.

[00:31:59] Then yeah, Videl got shot in the leg

[00:32:00] and you know, Videl's his wife.

[00:32:02] So go on.

[00:32:03] It's like, oh, I'm so sorry.

[00:32:04] And then Dende comes over and heals her

[00:32:06] and Dende realizes, wait, oh, you're pregnant

[00:32:08] and she's like, I haven't told Gohan yet.

[00:32:10] Yeah.

[00:32:11] Like keep it on the down low.

[00:32:12] Don't tell anybody.

[00:32:13] Yeah.

[00:32:13] And then yeah, when it comes up later,

[00:32:15] it's like, oh yeah, perfect.

[00:32:15] And so Vegeta, Gohan, Trunks, Goten

[00:32:17] and Videl's like unborn child.

[00:32:19] They all channel their energy together

[00:32:21] and give the God power to Goku.

[00:32:22] Yes.

[00:32:23] And then his hair turns purple or pink or whatever.

[00:32:25] Yeah.

[00:32:25] It's like a reddish.

[00:32:26] It's like a reddish.

[00:32:27] Yeah.

[00:32:28] Yeah.

[00:32:29] And it is cool.

[00:32:30] Roshi also mentions like, oh, he looks like thinner

[00:32:32] for some reason.

[00:32:33] And then like, yeah, his arms are like smaller

[00:32:35] which I think was interesting.

[00:32:36] Interesting.

[00:32:37] Yeah.

[00:32:38] It seems like the bit is always just bigger

[00:32:40] like more hair, right?

[00:32:41] Like that's the Super Saiyan 3

[00:32:43] is just the biggest hair possible.

[00:32:45] Yeah.

[00:32:46] I mean, that's one of the weird things

[00:32:47] like when you go Super Saiyan 1 to Super Saiyan 2

[00:32:48] I feel like there's almost no difference.

[00:32:50] They look almost identical.

[00:32:52] Like the hair is maybe a little bit spikier.

[00:32:53] And then yes, he's Super Saiyan 3

[00:32:55] you go to like the full long hair.

[00:32:57] Yeah.

[00:32:58] He has like the weird like caveman eyebrows.

[00:33:00] Right.

[00:33:01] I also don't understand what the like great ape thing is

[00:33:05] either also, which they reference when

[00:33:07] who's shows up with the other people

[00:33:09] when they're trying to rob the like bingo thing

[00:33:12] and it's trunks and

[00:33:14] Goten.

[00:33:15] Goten, I guess, open the doorway

[00:33:16] and they like have a flashback of the great ape thing

[00:33:18] and they're like, that's where they get out of there.

[00:33:21] Yes.

[00:33:22] You haven't gotten to that part in Dragon Ball yet.

[00:33:23] I don't remember.

[00:33:24] Yeah.

[00:33:25] Yeah.

[00:33:26] I mean if you watched like 10 episodes

[00:33:26] more than you would get there.

[00:33:28] But so basically, you know, in the old Dragon Ball series

[00:33:31] Goku has a tail.

[00:33:32] Right.

[00:33:33] And all Saiyans are born with tails.

[00:33:34] And in fact what they can do is like

[00:33:37] basically when there's a full moon

[00:33:39] if they look up to the moon

[00:33:40] they turn into this like the great ape

[00:33:42] this destructive monster.

[00:33:43] Got it.

[00:33:44] Which Goku didn't know about when he was a kid

[00:33:46] and that's actually how his grandpa Gohan died

[00:33:49] is like he turned into the great ape

[00:33:50] and accidentally crushes grandpa.

[00:33:51] He has no idea.

[00:33:53] I know.

[00:33:54] Poor boy.

[00:33:54] I know.

[00:33:55] Goku I think still like throughout the entire series

[00:33:58] of Dragon Ball,

[00:33:59] I think he maybe figures it out in Z

[00:34:00] but through the entire series of Dragon Ball

[00:34:02] he has no idea that he does that.

[00:34:03] Like he has no idea that the tail turns him

[00:34:05] into the great ape.

[00:34:06] Wow.

[00:34:07] Because he has no memory of it happening

[00:34:08] like when it happens and all that kind of stuff.

[00:34:10] So in like the end of the last saga

[00:34:13] or the end of the first saga

[00:34:14] of the original Dragon Ball

[00:34:16] when Ploff like gathers the Dragon Balls

[00:34:17] and is about to make his wish and stuff

[00:34:19] Goku ends up turning into the great ape

[00:34:20] and you know causing chaos causing destruction

[00:34:23] and everybody has to kind of run and avoid him.

[00:34:25] And then at one point Master Roshi blows up the moon

[00:34:29] to prevent that from happening anymore.

[00:34:31] Classic Roshi.

[00:34:33] Yes.

[00:34:34] And then the moon somehow gets restored.

[00:34:35] I forget how exactly

[00:34:37] but Goku ends up like taking off his own tail.

[00:34:39] Like it gets cut off that first time

[00:34:41] and then it grows back.

[00:34:43] And then at a certain point he like

[00:34:45] but his tail was also his weakness.

[00:34:47] Like if you grab the tail

[00:34:48] he would like be powerless.

[00:34:49] And so he eventually figured out

[00:34:50] like he got strong enough

[00:34:51] for the tail was no longer a weakness.

[00:34:53] And eventually it was able to just like yank it off

[00:34:54] or whatever it was.

[00:34:55] I forget exactly how he permanently removes the tail

[00:34:59] but he does.

[00:35:00] But in Dragon Ball Z

[00:35:01] like Gohan has a tail at first and like Raditz shows up

[00:35:05] and he has a tail and Vegeta has a tail

[00:35:06] and they all have tails.

[00:35:07] Vegeta turns into the great ape.

[00:35:08] Gohan turns into a great ape.

[00:35:10] They all do the thing.

[00:35:11] And it's basically to,

[00:35:13] it's like just as a destructive power that Saiyans have

[00:35:15] that makes them easily decimate planets faster.

[00:35:19] Okay. Make sense.

[00:35:20] There is that.

[00:35:21] So Piloff knows that great ape thing.

[00:35:23] I do think it's weird that Piloff doesn't think Goku

[00:35:25] has aged in that time.

[00:35:27] Right, he thinks it's the same guy.

[00:35:29] Like he recognizes Bulma like,

[00:35:31] oh wait, she's older now but that's the girl.

[00:35:33] Yeah.

[00:35:34] And for some reason he thinks Go 10 is Goku.

[00:35:39] I don't know.

[00:35:41] But you know what?

[00:35:42] It's making me wanna go back

[00:35:43] and watch more episodes now.

[00:35:44] I guess I gotta re-download it.

[00:35:46] We're gonna convince Mike to do like 10 episodes at a time

[00:35:48] every time we do a Dragon Ball movie.

[00:35:49] Yeah.

[00:35:51] God damn it.

[00:35:52] Yeah.

[00:35:53] And I know that this movie was like,

[00:35:54] there were a lot of Dragon Ball movies before this,

[00:35:56] like we said, but they were mostly like,

[00:35:58] one hour TV specials or stuff like that.

[00:36:01] This one was in theaters.

[00:36:01] I remember this coming out.

[00:36:02] And I believe this was the first one

[00:36:05] that Akira Toriyama was like actually really involved in.

[00:36:08] And so I don't know,

[00:36:09] it feels very much,

[00:36:10] it feels closer to the spirit of like the manga

[00:36:13] and the original Dragon Ball series.

[00:36:15] Maybe then, you know, like Dragon Ball Z, I love it.

[00:36:19] But it also gets like really self-serious.

[00:36:21] And it's like really like, man,

[00:36:22] there's a lot of long fights that happen in Z.

[00:36:27] Whereas Dragon Ball, the original series is more just about

[00:36:29] like, yeah, fun adventures that happen.

[00:36:30] And they always like build up to a fight or whatever.

[00:36:33] But there's a lot more going on like

[00:36:35] in terms of like plot mechanics and wacky stuff going on.

[00:36:37] And so yeah, this sort of feels more in the spirit

[00:36:40] of the original stuff, which is fun.

[00:36:42] And I think maybe even just bringing Ploff back

[00:36:44] is part of that too.

[00:36:45] It's just all part of it.

[00:36:46] Yeah.

[00:36:46] Yeah, I don't know.

[00:36:47] I don't remember enough of Z at the time

[00:36:50] to like have a full opinion on the difference between

[00:36:52] just 10 episodes of whatever,

[00:36:54] of the original series that I watched.

[00:36:56] But yeah, it was exciting.

[00:36:57] It's fun to watch this movie.

[00:36:59] And I'm glad we got forced to.

[00:37:01] Well, I guess we didn't get forced to.

[00:37:02] We could have watched Superhero, but I'm glad.

[00:37:04] We could have watched Superhero.

[00:37:06] Yeah, we could have watched Superhero,

[00:37:07] which I do want to watch and I will watch at some point.

[00:37:10] But, and I've heard great things about that one too.

[00:37:12] I think that one is mostly Gohan and Piccolo,

[00:37:14] like fighting robots.

[00:37:15] Cool.

[00:37:16] Sounds great.

[00:37:18] Sounds perfect.

[00:37:19] I think there's like cutaways,

[00:37:20] like from what I was kind of reading about it,

[00:37:21] it's like, oh, it's mostly Gohan and Piccolo

[00:37:23] against the Red Ribbon Army

[00:37:24] who have been a thorn in the side of the Z fighters

[00:37:26] for years and years.

[00:37:27] But, and I think there's like cutaways

[00:37:29] of like Goku, Vegeta and Broly,

[00:37:31] like all training on Broly's planet.

[00:37:33] But I think it's mostly Gohan and Piccolo

[00:37:34] doing their thing.

[00:37:35] Cool.

[00:37:36] Which is neat.

[00:37:37] Which is pretty cool.

[00:37:38] And yeah, and now with Akira Toriyama-gan,

[00:37:40] I am a little concerned about the future of Dragon Ball.

[00:37:42] I don't know what's really going to happen.

[00:37:44] You know, I know the, I mean obviously,

[00:37:45] he was still doing the manga.

[00:37:46] Like he was still publishing that.

[00:37:48] And you know, Dragon Ball Super, I'm excited to watch it.

[00:37:51] But I know it is a weird thing where like the show ended,

[00:37:54] but the manga kept going.

[00:37:56] And I wonder, like part of me is like,

[00:37:57] oh, I wonder if that was just like, you know,

[00:37:59] they didn't want to,

[00:38:00] like Dragon Ball Z is like known for all the filler episodes.

[00:38:02] And I'm wondering if they were trying

[00:38:03] to avoid that kind of situation.

[00:38:05] Right.

[00:38:06] And so like, okay, we'll stop here

[00:38:07] and then wait till there's more of the manga

[00:38:08] and then we'll make more of the show or whatever.

[00:38:10] I know there's another Dragon Ball show coming out

[00:38:14] maybe this year,

[00:38:15] maybe next year called Dragon Ball Dima,

[00:38:17] which has a trailer and it's,

[00:38:19] it looks like weirdly a lot like Dragon Ball GT,

[00:38:22] which is now considered like a non-canon show.

[00:38:24] Okay.

[00:38:25] Even though I liked Dragon Ball GT, I was the guy.

[00:38:27] I mean, it was-

[00:38:28] You're the one.

[00:38:29] I was the one who liked GT.

[00:38:30] I don't know, it was on right after Dragon Ball Z.

[00:38:32] I was still in my Dragon Ball family.

[00:38:34] Yeah. What are you going to do?

[00:38:36] But yeah, GT was like a two season show

[00:38:38] that Toriyama was not really involved in.

[00:38:39] But that was the show.

[00:38:40] I think I talked about it on the Broly episode

[00:38:42] where Goku gets turned back into a kid

[00:38:44] in the first episode.

[00:38:45] I didn't buy Ploff.

[00:38:47] Ploff comes back and he makes his wish

[00:38:49] and it's like, oh, I wish you were a little kid again.

[00:38:51] It's like I really teach us some manners,

[00:38:52] which is the dumbest thing Ploff can do

[00:38:54] because Goku defeated him as a kid so many times.

[00:38:58] But he's Ploff, he doesn't learn.

[00:38:59] Yeah, exactly.

[00:39:01] Also actually, I did want to mention

[00:39:03] maybe my f-

[00:39:04] Maybe the funniest moment of the movie,

[00:39:05] which is when Ploff and his gang come back

[00:39:08] or they get out of there

[00:39:09] and Mai has like stolen the diamonds.

[00:39:11] Yes.

[00:39:12] Or no, she stole the Dragon Ball.

[00:39:14] She gives the diamond back

[00:39:15] but she steals the Dragon Ball, only one of them.

[00:39:18] And she's like, I stole the Dragon Ball.

[00:39:19] And Ploff's like, oh, well what are we gonna do?

[00:39:21] It's just one.

[00:39:22] Oh, well we'll hold it ransom

[00:39:23] and we'll make them give us a million zennie

[00:39:25] if they don't get the Dragon Ball back.

[00:39:28] And he's like, ah, you're a genius Mai.

[00:39:29] Yes.

[00:39:30] And then the dog is like,

[00:39:31] I think the diamond was worth more than a million zennie.

[00:39:33] Why didn't we just take that?

[00:39:35] And the way Ploff's jaw drops to the floor

[00:39:38] and his tongue rolls out.

[00:39:39] Yes, yes.

[00:39:40] Is so funny.

[00:39:41] And then he's just like, okay.

[00:39:42] It's like, well what are you,

[00:39:43] nuts no one wants to be that rich.

[00:39:44] It's about balance.

[00:39:46] You'd be so stressed out.

[00:39:48] Well I think my favorite bit was the pig man

[00:39:51] whose name I forget.

[00:39:53] Oolong.

[00:39:53] Oolong, yes.

[00:39:54] Gets challenged by Lord Beerus

[00:39:56] to a rock paper scissors game

[00:39:59] for the fate of the earth.

[00:40:00] And is it Goten?

[00:40:01] Somebody's like, he doesn't know you're a pig man

[00:40:03] and you have fingers.

[00:40:04] He thinks you're gonna throw his scissors.

[00:40:06] Yeah, or like rock or something.

[00:40:08] So he's gonna throw paper or whatever it is.

[00:40:10] Yeah.

[00:40:10] No, that was Yamcha talking to Oolong.

[00:40:12] Oh yes.

[00:40:13] Yeah, and so they put this whole plan out there.

[00:40:17] Like you gotta put down scissors

[00:40:19] so that you can defeat his paper

[00:40:21] when he tries to cover your rock

[00:40:22] and then Beerus defeats him.

[00:40:24] Is like, do you see my ears?

[00:40:26] Yeah, I see how big my ears are.

[00:40:27] I heard your whole plan.

[00:40:29] Incredible.

[00:40:31] So, so good.

[00:40:31] But yeah, I forget exactly what I was saying.

[00:40:33] But GT, I liked.

[00:40:35] But yeah, Dragon Ball Dima is coming out.

[00:40:37] Yes.

[00:40:38] Which looks very similar to GT in the fact that like,

[00:40:41] oh it turns Goku back into a kid.

[00:40:43] But it seems like it turns everybody into kids.

[00:40:44] Like it has like a kid Vegeta and a kid Piccolo

[00:40:46] and all that stuff.

[00:40:47] So yeah, curious what that show's gonna be.

[00:40:50] That's fun.

[00:40:51] But I know Toriyama was like involved with that

[00:40:52] prior to his death.

[00:40:53] So yeah, I'm hopeful for it.

[00:40:55] Should be good.

[00:40:56] And I know there's a new Dragon Ball Z game coming out

[00:40:58] this year that I'm excited for.

[00:41:00] It's like a Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

[00:41:02] which is supposed to be like a continuation

[00:41:03] of the Budokai Tenkaichi games

[00:41:05] which the ones that I grew up with.

[00:41:06] There was some bullshit with that game though.

[00:41:09] I remember, oh man, I can't remember what's

[00:41:10] top of my head but I saw something and I was like,

[00:41:12] oh man, I gotta make sure Mike knows about this.

[00:41:14] I don't know anything.

[00:41:15] Where I think it's that it's like,

[00:41:16] oh there's a hundred characters or something like that

[00:41:18] but you only can unlock 20 of them

[00:41:20] and the rest are DLCs or some shit.

[00:41:22] No!

[00:41:23] Yeah, it's some garbage like that.

[00:41:25] I don't remember if that's exactly it

[00:41:26] but it's some video game nonsense.

[00:41:29] I really hope that's not true.

[00:41:31] Yeah, that's a bummer.

[00:41:32] Cause Dragon Ball Z, Budokai Tenkaichi 3

[00:41:35] there were 120 playable characters in that game,

[00:41:39] something like that.

[00:41:40] And they were all just on the disc.

[00:41:41] You know, you unlock them by playing the game

[00:41:43] and it ruled that game rocked.

[00:41:45] I mean, yeah, all those DBZ Tenkaichi games rocked

[00:41:47] but yeah, three was like the one

[00:41:49] that just had like so many characters

[00:41:51] and it was really fun.

[00:41:52] Are you looking it up now?

[00:41:53] I'm trying to look it up

[00:41:54] or it was like, like there's a hundred of them

[00:41:56] and like 30 of them are Goku.

[00:41:58] Like it's like a lot less.

[00:42:00] I can't remember what it is.

[00:42:02] Hold on, I'll try to find it while we're talking about it.

[00:42:04] That's sort of also how Tenkaichi 3 worked.

[00:42:05] It would be like, okay, yeah, there's Goku.

[00:42:07] There's Super Saiyan Goku.

[00:42:08] There's Super Saiyan 2 Goku.

[00:42:09] The Super Saiyan, like, you know,

[00:42:11] different characters for every power

[00:42:12] and all that kind of stuff.

[00:42:13] So yeah, that's to be expected I think.

[00:42:16] We'll see.

[00:42:17] We'll see if I can find it while we're talking still

[00:42:18] but yeah, it's kind of fascinating just to see this

[00:42:23] you know, like pop culture force

[00:42:25] that's been around for 30 years

[00:42:27] and is still strong, you know,

[00:42:29] is very interesting.

[00:42:30] Yeah, I mean, it left for a while, you know,

[00:42:32] it's when Dragon Ball Z ended, Dragon Ball GT started.

[00:42:35] It lasted for like two years

[00:42:36] and then that was pretty much it for a little bit

[00:42:38] and then this movie came out in 2013

[00:42:40] which was like I think almost 10 years after GT

[00:42:44] there was another movie after that

[00:42:45] and then they finally did Dragon Ball Super

[00:42:46] but I think Toriyama really did originally

[00:42:49] want Z to be the end of it

[00:42:50] and then eventually came back and did Super instead

[00:42:53] and yeah, I've heard good things about Super.

[00:42:55] I am looking forward to watching it

[00:42:57] but I'm not gonna get there for a while.

[00:43:00] One day, there's just so many episodes, you know?

[00:43:02] Exactly, yeah.

[00:43:03] And I mean, the way I'm watching Dragon Ball Z

[00:43:06] is like once a week, maybe at like 2 a.m.

[00:43:09] My girlfriend is falling on her sleeve,

[00:43:10] I crack open a beer

[00:43:11] and I watch like three episodes of Dragon Ball Z.

[00:43:13] It's kind of how I've been doing it for the last two years.

[00:43:16] So you know, it's gonna be a little bit

[00:43:18] until I get to Super.

[00:43:20] One day, there's just too many.

[00:43:22] Yeah, there's a lot of stuff

[00:43:23] but it is super, super fun.

[00:43:26] Yeah, I'm curious.

[00:43:27] I mean now that I have Crunchyroll

[00:43:29] and now I have access to

[00:43:30] almost all of the Dragon Ball Z movies

[00:43:31] I might dip my toe into a few of those

[00:43:34] because I don't know, I've watched,

[00:43:35] I did watch a bunch of them when I was a kid

[00:43:37] but I haven't watched them in a very long time

[00:43:38] and I know most of them are like considered non-canon

[00:43:40] or whatever so I'm not sure if I necessarily need to

[00:43:43] but I think it could be fun

[00:43:44] and especially I mean there's the Broly movies,

[00:43:46] there's the Bojack movie,

[00:43:47] The Return of Cooler, pretty cool.

[00:43:49] I like Cooler.

[00:43:50] He's a cool, sounds pretty cool.

[00:43:51] Yeah, he was Frieza's older brother

[00:43:53] who wants revenge for Goku killing Frieza

[00:43:55] and yeah, there was two Cooler movies.

[00:43:57] There was Cooler's Revenge

[00:43:58] then there was Return of Cooler

[00:43:59] and I think he turns into like a robot Cooler

[00:44:01] and then Return of Cooler

[00:44:01] like much like Frieza turns into Mecha-Freaza.

[00:44:06] Man, now I just wanna watch Godzilla stuff.

[00:44:12] We accidentally turned Mike into a Godzilla guy

[00:44:13] after the Dragon Ball episode.

[00:44:14] Yeah, wait a second, hold on.

[00:44:16] Yes, and then there's yeah, I mean, yeah, like so yeah

[00:44:19] Battle of Gods was like the first theatrical movie

[00:44:21] like or the one like got a real theatrical push

[00:44:23] in America then there was Resurrection F

[00:44:25] and then they turned into Super Broly

[00:44:26] and Super Superheroes.

[00:44:28] Superheroes most recent one that was 2022.

[00:44:30] There was the live action theatrical movie Mike.

[00:44:33] Oh God, yeah.

[00:44:34] I saw in theaters, I was there opening day

[00:44:38] to see Dragon Ball Evolution.

[00:44:39] Wow. And man, that movie sucks.

[00:44:41] It was real bad.

[00:44:43] I don't know if I've ever seen that.

[00:44:44] I might have seen that.

[00:44:45] I don't really remember.

[00:44:46] I definitely like know like what it looks like but.

[00:44:48] Yeah, that came out when I was like 16

[00:44:51] and I was very excited for it.

[00:44:52] I was like, oh shit,

[00:44:53] like live action Dragon Ball movie, here we go.

[00:44:55] Went to see it, it was awful

[00:44:56] and then afterwards went across the street to Walmart

[00:44:59] and ended up buying Dragon Ball Z on DVD

[00:45:02] and watching it just to confirm that it was a good show.

[00:45:04] Yeah, you had your whole reality shaken.

[00:45:06] Yes and confirmed Dragon Ball Z is still a good show

[00:45:09] but Dragon Ball Evolution quite bad

[00:45:12] but it did have James Masters

[00:45:15] who's spiked from Belphi the Vampire Slayer as Piccolo.

[00:45:18] Incredible honestly.

[00:45:20] And like he was like, I was reading about it

[00:45:21] and he was like,

[00:45:22] I think they were originally making Piccolo Gray

[00:45:24] like the makeup team

[00:45:25] and he was like a big Dragon Ball fan

[00:45:27] like you gotta make me green.

[00:45:28] Why aren't you making me green?

[00:45:30] And Chow Yun fats in it as Master Roshi which is wild

[00:45:34] but yeah, it's a weird movie where like Goku

[00:45:36] and Chichi are in high school together

[00:45:37] and yeah, I don't know.

[00:45:39] It's a weird like, I don't know everything about it.

[00:45:41] It's the first segment of Dragon Ball

[00:45:44] it's the first saga of like him meeting Bulma

[00:45:45] and all that stuff

[00:45:46] but it's also throwing in Piccolo

[00:45:48] and it's mashing in a ton of different things.

[00:45:50] The movie is like less than 90 minutes long

[00:45:53] and it's a rough time.

[00:45:54] Don't watch Dragon Ball for shit.

[00:45:56] You know, I was almost going to you and you saved me.

[00:45:58] Thanks.

[00:45:59] Yeah.

[00:46:00] Unless somebody wants to give us $50 to watch it

[00:46:02] I will not be watching Dragon Ball Evolution anytime soon.

[00:46:05] True.

[00:46:06] I wasn't able to find the post

[00:46:07] or any of that stuff about sparking zero or whatever.

[00:46:10] So I don't know.

[00:46:11] Maybe it's all speculation rumors.

[00:46:13] I don't really know

[00:46:14] but I was remembering about there being DLC.

[00:46:16] I see.

[00:46:17] But who knows?

[00:46:18] Who knows.

[00:46:18] All right.

[00:46:19] Any other thoughts about Dragon Ball Z battle of gods

[00:46:21] before we wrap this up Mike?

[00:46:22] No, I think we ran through most of it

[00:46:24] and it's a lot of fun

[00:46:25] and I enjoyed it.

[00:46:26] I'm glad it might reignite my Dragon Ball.

[00:46:28] I was going to say fire

[00:46:29] but I don't know, it's not even really quite a fire

[00:46:31] but you watched a few episodes and then pieced out.

[00:46:34] Yeah.

[00:46:35] It's like, you know what I think I've satisfied

[00:46:36] but I might be curious again.

[00:46:37] Maybe I'll get back in there.

[00:46:38] Yeah.

[00:46:39] I mean if you get through the Pila of Saga

[00:46:40] I think that second season is one of my favorite

[00:46:43] like the second Saga

[00:46:44] the martial arts tournament Saga

[00:46:46] is one of my favorite parts of Dragon Ball

[00:46:48] which is they do it like three or four times

[00:46:50] in the original series

[00:46:51] where they go to the martial arts tournament

[00:46:52] but it rules every time.

[00:46:53] It's the best.

[00:46:55] Awesome.

[00:46:56] And I think you've met

[00:46:57] at that point I think you will have met Master Roshi, right?

[00:47:00] Like he's popped up.

[00:47:01] Yeah, but that's when like Goku

[00:47:03] and Krillin is going to show up

[00:47:04] and they become like Master Roshi's pupils

[00:47:06] and that's when they actually kind of start training

[00:47:08] under him and doing their thing

[00:47:10] and Goku and Krillin are kind of enemies at first

[00:47:12] but they become best friends.

[00:47:14] They're the best.

[00:47:14] Like every other character in the show.

[00:47:17] Like every other character.

[00:47:19] Well Krillin's not like a bad guy

[00:47:20] but he's just like a cocky little kid

[00:47:22] who like wants to be better than Goku

[00:47:25] and then quickly learns

[00:47:26] that he is not going to be better than Goku.

[00:47:28] Very fair.

[00:47:29] Yeah, maybe I'll get back into it.

[00:47:30] Maybe I'll at least finish that Pilaf saga.

[00:47:32] Yeah, just so you know what the great apes all about.

[00:47:34] Exactly.

[00:47:35] Kind of get through there.

[00:47:36] All right, I believe that's going to bring us

[00:47:37] to the end of this week's episode, Mike.

[00:47:39] That's it.

[00:47:40] We done did it.

[00:47:41] We done did it.

[00:47:42] So Dragon Ball Z, battle of gods.

[00:47:43] Thank you to Aaron for donating $50

[00:47:45] to make us watch this movie

[00:47:47] because it's always fun to talk about Dragon Ball.

[00:47:48] That's my thing.

[00:47:51] Too bad there's not any more Witcher movies

[00:47:52] where we could trade back and forth

[00:47:54] between you describing Dragon Ball

[00:47:55] and me describing Witcher to you.

[00:47:57] Yes, yeah.

[00:47:58] I did my due diligence with Witcher Blood Origin

[00:48:00] and that'll be it.

[00:48:02] Yep, fair.

[00:48:04] But yeah, I'm sure we can find another thing

[00:48:06] that Mike D likes more than me

[00:48:07] and we can figure it out.

[00:48:09] One day.

[00:48:10] All right, Mike D, where can we find you online this week?

[00:49:12] I mean, it's already starting over there.

[00:49:13] We've already started publishing episodes

[00:49:15] on that side of things right now.

[00:49:17] But yeah, pretty soon that's where they will be

[00:49:19] exclusively, so get over there and make it happen.

[00:49:22] So yeah, next week Mike makes Mike watch.

[00:49:24] I know Mike D, I think you're making me watch

[00:49:26] The Pelican Brief.

[00:49:27] Yes, I am.

[00:49:29] Do you remember what I'm making you watch?

[00:49:30] I don't at all.

[00:49:31] Okay, let me see.

[00:49:32] What do we gots?

[00:49:36] Yes, here we go, scrolling.

[00:49:38] Everybody knows this, you just make sounds

[00:49:40] and it's fine.

[00:49:41] Yeah, that's how you vamp.

[00:49:42] That's how you vamp.

[00:49:43] Next month or this month for April,

[00:49:46] we are returning to the world of Greta Gerwig.

[00:49:50] I'm making you watch Mistress America.

[00:49:52] Got it.

[00:49:52] Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach film,

[00:49:55] starring Greta Gerwig that she co-wrote.

[00:49:56] And this is maybe my favorite Noah Baumbach movie.

[00:49:59] It rules, love it, and yeah, I hope you really enjoy it.

[00:50:01] Yeah.

[00:50:02] To the two ends of the filmmaking spectrum yet again.

[00:50:04] The Pelican Brief and Mistress America.

[00:50:06] And Mistress America, I think.

[00:50:08] There we go.

[00:50:09] All right, so yeah, that's gonna be next week on the show.
