[00:00:00] In honor of its 20th anniversary this week we're rewinding back to our season one episode

[00:00:12] That's right we're visiting 13 going on 30.

[00:00:16] So much has changed since we last watched that episode Jackie.

[00:00:19] Have you rewatched or seen any clips from us doing that episode?

[00:00:24] I did, I have not.

[00:00:26] Let me tell you.

[00:00:27] It we look like little babies, little babies.

[00:00:31] Figuring out what the hell we're doing.

[00:00:33] But since we dropped the episode we've seen Mark Ruffalo get his star on the Hollywood

[00:00:38] Walk of Fame, Benifer is married and the young Jenna actually turned 30 in real life.

[00:00:45] So buckle up because you're about to be introduced to scrunched.

[00:00:50] My horrible attempts at 80s fine my makeup and a send off that doesn't include our

[00:00:54] iconic be kind and rewind.

[00:00:56] So enjoy.

[00:00:59] This episode is brought to you by Hills Pet Nutrition.

[00:01:48] I'm Danielle and I'm Jackie and we're just two best friends and ex-Blockbuster employees

[00:01:54] rewatching some of our favorite movies from the late 90s and early 2000s.

[00:02:00] Well, happy birthday Jenna Rank.

[00:02:04] For you who have, I don't know, lived in a trash can for most of your life and don't know what this movie is.

[00:02:11] Well, it's a wonderful movie starring Jennifer Gardner and Mark Ruffalo from 2004 where pretty

[00:02:18] much a young girl in the 80s having her 13th birthday wishes to be 30, flirty and thriving.

[00:02:30] And thus finds her in kind of like a big situation and she wakes up and she is 30 years old.

[00:02:36] So let's get into it.

[00:02:39] I'm excited.

[00:02:40] Like I can't even harness how excited I am because as you know, Jackie Jennifer Gardner

[00:02:48] is one of my like handful of special ladies that I love to death.

[00:02:56] And it was funny because Serena watched it with me and well, all I said was like,

[00:03:01] I have to watch 13 going on 30.

[00:03:03] And she's like, that might not be exactly what she did, but it was close enough.

[00:03:10] So you are ratings rewind before we really get into the movie.

[00:03:18] So here's how it goes.

[00:03:19] Before we get into any movie, we will reveal the rating or Y2K versions of ourselves.

[00:03:25] We give and then at the end, we'll see if our current selves agree with our initial rating.

[00:03:30] Our scale will consist of would buy it would buy it again.

[00:03:35] The best would plan repeat day rental would watch again to day rental.

[00:03:40] Okay, but nothing to write home about a day rental trash straight up trash.

[00:03:48] So what was your rating Jackie?

[00:03:51] Y2K Jackie would give it a would buy it.

[00:03:54] I watched this movie quite a bit in the early ups.

[00:03:59] Yeah, would buy it again for me as well.

[00:04:03] I think I have it.

[00:04:06] I have two versions of it on DVD.

[00:04:09] Yeah.

[00:04:09] And I think I have it on digital as well.

[00:04:14] I very much love this movie.

[00:04:16] So I definitely have it on digital.

[00:04:19] So it is available on iTunes.

[00:04:21] I'm not sure because I own it if it's on any streaming.

[00:04:25] It is.

[00:04:26] It's even though I own it, I still watch it on HBO Max.

[00:04:29] So I think it's also on Netflix.

[00:04:33] So this one was free.

[00:04:35] I'm so glad that we're back on the same page with our ratings.

[00:04:41] I think the last movie we had the same rating, but you know, there was a few

[00:04:45] back there that I felt like, wait, what happened?

[00:04:49] We were out of sync.

[00:04:52] Before we dive in, let's hear a word from our pod pals.

[00:05:00] Are you tired of waiting for sparks to fly on your dating app?

[00:05:04] Do you dream of running through airports to deliver an out of breath

[00:05:07] unplanned monologue?

[00:05:12] Feel good love stories that take you from chance encounter

[00:05:15] to grand romantic gesture in just 15 minutes.

[00:05:18] We're bringing romcoms back.

[00:05:19] Get a brand new meet cute series on the first Tuesday of every month

[00:05:23] with new episodes twice a week.

[00:05:24] Fall in love with me, cute romcoms wherever you find your podcasts.

[00:05:28] Is this where we kiss?

[00:05:35] So we're introduced to Jenna Rink.

[00:05:37] She is kind of just like normal, almost 13 year old chick.

[00:05:44] It starts out on school picture day.

[00:05:48] And.

[00:05:50] That photographer did her dirty douchebag.

[00:05:54] First of all, she said my name is Jenna.

[00:05:57] He said, OK, Jenny, she corrected him again.

[00:06:00] And he still called her Jenny or whatever.

[00:06:04] And he didn't even like make sure that she had a good picture.

[00:06:07] But I feel like this is a conspiracy because I do recall

[00:06:10] having plenty of bad photo days in school.

[00:06:15] It gave me PTSD just watching that scene.

[00:06:17] And I maybe because I have a school photo day every year

[00:06:23] and they let me see my picture now and they let me retake it.

[00:06:27] Maybe that wasn't the case in the eighties, but I thought it wasn't.

[00:06:31] I was like.

[00:06:33] They usually take at least a couple of pictures.

[00:06:35] They don't just take one and done even back then.

[00:06:38] They would snap a couple.

[00:06:40] I don't know.

[00:06:41] I was just I was very upset that he would not be like, wait,

[00:06:45] I think you blinked right knees or had your mouth open.

[00:06:50] And they used to take it again.

[00:06:51] They used to take more than one.

[00:06:53] There would be a few.

[00:06:54] And then I remember they didn't they send you the proofs

[00:06:56] and your parents could pick which one they wanted? Right.

[00:06:59] Yes. So yeah, he he was awful.

[00:07:02] The other thing was just being nitpicky.

[00:07:04] It was just the cloud background.

[00:07:06] I was like, I never got to get that wonderful background.

[00:07:10] It was always those wonderful neon lights.

[00:07:13] The lasers, the lasers, you know, then it fast forwards

[00:07:16] to when she gets her pictures.

[00:07:17] It's pretty shitty.

[00:07:18] She runs into her bestie, Maddie, who is already obsessed with photography.

[00:07:24] I thought it was kind of cool yet very privileged that this kid had

[00:07:29] like, I know an eight hundred camera in middle school

[00:07:33] and was already becoming paparazzi stalker like in school.

[00:07:38] Obviously, you can see their rapport as besties.

[00:07:41] And then here comes down the hallway.

[00:07:45] The six chicks, the dumbest name ever.

[00:07:49] Yeah, like it's kind of like Heather's where, OK, what happens when you

[00:07:53] you want to bring someone else in the group?

[00:07:55] That's on named Heather.

[00:07:56] Like I feel like you're constrained with six chicks.

[00:07:59] Like that means there can't be like Maddie says,

[00:08:03] you can't be in there can't be a seven six chick.

[00:08:06] Yeah. And then at the end, you find out that

[00:08:10] I don't even know what her name is in the movie, Brie Larson.

[00:08:14] Oh, yeah, I never think she has a name.

[00:08:16] She's an early movie, early movie role for Brie Larson

[00:08:20] is kicked out when Maddie is telling Jenna,

[00:08:24] adult Maddie is telling Jenna about like what happened in high school.

[00:08:28] And he says like she was kicked out and then you became the sixth.

[00:08:33] Oh, I didn't, you know what?

[00:08:34] I don't even think I realized that part.

[00:08:36] How did you know it was her that because like they didn't have names?

[00:08:41] Because I read some facts about.

[00:08:46] OK, well, had no idea.

[00:08:48] So yeah, the six chicks two out of the.

[00:08:51] Well, I think there's another girl in that group

[00:08:54] that's pretty popular on like social media, but I.

[00:08:58] And I don't know if she's still acting or not.

[00:09:01] But I do know that obviously Brie Larson

[00:09:04] became very famous from that movie.

[00:09:07] I mean, after that movie and then Amber Benson,

[00:09:10] who was in Pretty Little Liars is also pretty popular too,

[00:09:14] that was in that group.

[00:09:16] I just think it's really funny if you see an interview with Mark Ruffalo.

[00:09:19] He talks about like someone asked him, isn't it cool that Brie Larson

[00:09:23] was in 13 going on 30 with you?

[00:09:25] And he was like, wait, what?

[00:09:26] I didn't realize that she was me and Ruffalo.

[00:09:31] She was like, wait, I had no idea.

[00:09:35] And that was Brie Larson's first movie.

[00:09:37] So I thought that was really funny.

[00:09:39] But I give him I give him a little bit of leeway

[00:09:42] because they weren't in those scenes together.

[00:09:44] So right, like it makes sense.

[00:09:46] And he was legit an adult and she was still a teenager.

[00:09:50] Look, if he did remember, I would have been like, that's us.

[00:09:54] That's real.

[00:09:55] So let's let's deviate real fast

[00:09:59] and just talk about the Marvel connections.

[00:10:03] Oh, yes.

[00:10:04] There's a lot of Marvel people in this movie.

[00:10:07] Yes. So we have Brie Larson, obviously Captain Marvel.

[00:10:11] Yeah. Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner slash The Hulk.

[00:10:15] Jennifer Garner was Electra.

[00:10:17] Yeah. And Daredevil and Electra.

[00:10:19] My favorite Andy Serkis as Claw.

[00:10:26] And even.

[00:10:27] Yep, even Judy Greer as the mom from Ant-Man.

[00:10:33] Yeah. I mean, at this point,

[00:10:35] it's just kind of getting impossible to have a movie

[00:10:38] that doesn't have some sort of Marvel time,

[00:10:40] but they had quite a bit in this movie.

[00:10:42] So and who knows, time is still passing.

[00:10:45] You know, they might still be hiring more people from this movie.

[00:10:48] So probably enough.

[00:10:52] The funny thing is that so we get to start with

[00:10:56] us kind of like a separate cast of people playing

[00:10:59] the younger versions of everybody.

[00:11:02] And originally, I think the studio was even thinking about

[00:11:06] not having the younger actors, but having the older actors

[00:11:10] play younger and I'm just like, oh, that would have been really bad.

[00:11:15] They were middle school, not even high school.

[00:11:18] Yeah, it would have been like.

[00:11:20] I don't know.

[00:11:22] There are so many movies where they try to make the adult actors,

[00:11:25] teenagers and it doesn't work.

[00:11:27] I think like the only movie that comes to mind right now is Just Friends.

[00:11:31] Oh my God, me too.

[00:11:35] For Amy Smart, kind of pulled it off.

[00:11:38] But in Ryan Reynolds in no way, pulled off being a high schooler.

[00:11:43] Yeah. And the fat suit thing was so weird.

[00:11:46] Yeah.

[00:11:47] And you.

[00:11:50] That's a Christmas movie.

[00:11:52] So pretty much when Jenna runs into the six chicks,

[00:11:56] the head six chick who is Tom Tom pretty much is, you know,

[00:12:00] conferring with her about her party and all that Jenna really wants

[00:12:04] is to be a part of their clique.

[00:12:06] So Tom Tom says, well, you know, we'll come over with

[00:12:09] the cutest guy in school, which is Chris.

[00:12:11] What's Grandi?

[00:12:13] Brandy, Chris Brandy.

[00:12:14] And pretty much you can tell us the viewer that she is manipulating

[00:12:18] Jenna because she is asking.

[00:12:20] She's like, oh, we can go.

[00:12:21] But our teacher is making us do this project.

[00:12:25] And so Jenna's like, I can do it for you.

[00:12:26] So, you know, poor Jenna is a dam.

[00:12:31] What do you call those things?

[00:12:33] Oh, well, you know, the mats.

[00:12:36] The Dorma. Thank you.

[00:12:41] So then you see Matt and Jenna go home.

[00:12:45] And of course they live in these huge homes in New Jersey

[00:12:49] and they're next door neighbors.

[00:12:50] So Jenna goes and gets ready for her party.

[00:12:53] You're introduced to her parents.

[00:12:55] You're introduced to her stuffing her bra, which, you know,

[00:13:00] when I watch it, I was like, I don't, I don't relate.

[00:13:05] I don't relate.

[00:13:07] I was trying to hide these things.

[00:13:10] I didn't have any room.

[00:13:11] I mean, mine came in late, but I never felt that need to like.

[00:13:16] Stuff my bra.

[00:13:17] I was just like, it's, it is what it is.

[00:13:24] I did have a couple of comments while she's watching the TV

[00:13:29] while getting ready.

[00:13:30] She it's playing Jesse's girl, the music video.

[00:13:36] Did people really kiss TVs?

[00:13:38] I did. Oh, Jesus. OK.

[00:13:41] Love you, Harrison.

[00:13:45] I never kissed a TV.

[00:13:46] So I was not.

[00:13:48] I was not aware.

[00:13:49] Yeah, but you also had six feet posters of Lance Basson

[00:13:54] all enhancing in your your room.

[00:13:58] Don't judge.

[00:13:59] I didn't kiss them though.

[00:14:01] They were just there.

[00:14:04] I just wanted I felt like guardian angels watching me sleep, Danielle.

[00:14:10] I would wake up in the middle of night and to sleep over your house

[00:14:13] being a pair just like.

[00:14:16] So scared.

[00:14:20] Not doing anything there there for good.

[00:14:22] That evil.

[00:14:23] I also really like that when her parents came in and her mom was

[00:14:27] like fixing her makeup, kind of toning it down and stuff.

[00:14:31] Telling her you don't have to stuff your bra and Jenny's

[00:14:34] Jenna is lamenting about she wants to be like the girls on the magazines.

[00:14:39] Her mom's response was those aren't people.

[00:14:42] Those are models.

[00:14:43] I'm like, yes, this is true.

[00:14:46] And this is a phenomenon that is still happening today.

[00:14:52] Yeah.

[00:14:52] Where those people are not real.

[00:14:56] Yeah, even the models aren't even living those lives.

[00:14:58] No. Yeah, it's it's crazy.

[00:15:01] But I did love how it was the article she was reading was 30

[00:15:06] flirty and thriving 30 best years of your life.

[00:15:10] And so I was like, you know what?

[00:15:13] Hell, yeah, it is really.

[00:15:16] I now think back on it like I had fun in my 20s, but there's nothing

[00:15:21] like having a bank account that has money in it.

[00:15:25] Being able to like know where you stand in life and just feeling

[00:15:30] a lot better of just just knowing yourself.

[00:15:33] I don't know.

[00:15:34] I mean, I'm kind of excited that 40s are going to be pretty damn good too.

[00:15:38] Yeah, unless I have a kid and ruin it.

[00:15:41] So we'll see.

[00:15:42] So obviously, party set parents, she's she kicks her parents out.

[00:15:47] You know, I guess this is like her first big party.

[00:15:50] So she doesn't want her parents there.

[00:15:52] I wasn't able to do that until I was 16.

[00:15:54] And I had to do the same thing Jenna did on my 16th birthday.

[00:15:57] My mom invited all these people that were her friends to my 16th

[00:16:02] party where it was my first like real boy girl situation.

[00:16:06] And I pushed them all into her bedroom.

[00:16:08] She was so mad and said I was so rude, but it wasn't even worth it

[00:16:12] because my party was lame.

[00:16:13] Jackie doesn't know because she wasn't there because she was away.

[00:16:17] Sorry.

[00:16:19] Gee, I don't.

[00:16:20] But I don't think I don't remember you being at my 16th birthday.

[00:16:26] I don't know why I wouldn't take a journey with me, shall you?

[00:16:30] What was your 16th birthday?

[00:16:32] It was tell us how these themed.

[00:16:34] And I definitely wasn't there.

[00:16:39] And everyone was late.

[00:16:42] And so my mom, I have a picture somewhere of me wearing a

[00:16:46] teletubbies party hat spread with the teletubbies.

[00:16:51] I'm just I'm sorry.

[00:16:52] Tablecloth and everything, the plates.

[00:16:57] And I'm just hanging my head because.

[00:17:00] I'm sorry.

[00:17:02] Wait, but why was it teletubby themed?

[00:17:05] Because 16 year old Jackie thought it was cool to like things

[00:17:10] like teletubbies and Pokemon.

[00:17:13] You know, I was nostalgic for things that were not really that old.

[00:17:19] I don't even have words.

[00:17:21] So OK.

[00:17:24] I really don't know why I wouldn't be at your 16th birthday.

[00:17:29] I agree. Oh, weird.

[00:17:30] Unless Christine just didn't like you come.

[00:17:32] That might have been it.

[00:17:33] Or maybe we weren't like that friendly yet.

[00:17:37] Well, because we would have met in October and my birthday is in March.

[00:17:42] So it may have been the getting to know you period

[00:17:45] because we didn't go see a movie together until May. Yeah.

[00:17:49] I may not have been invited, Jackie,

[00:17:52] which may be a bigger discussion later when we get off this Zoom.

[00:17:59] And I'll throw another teletubby themed birthday party.

[00:18:02] Please don't you can.

[00:18:08] That's priceless.

[00:18:09] So pretty much.

[00:18:11] Jenna is downstairs in the basement with Matt.

[00:18:14] Matt, you decide what did I want to base it?

[00:18:18] Basement. Oh, man.

[00:18:20] That is the one thing I miss about living up north.

[00:18:23] My grandma had an amazing basement.

[00:18:25] You still love it.

[00:18:26] My uncle used to have a pretty cool basement too.

[00:18:30] My aunt and uncle in Rhode Island, they were actually my great aunt and uncle.

[00:18:36] They had a basement and it was like my favorite thing when we went there

[00:18:39] because they have like a bar down there and so the big TV.

[00:18:44] Like this is amazing.

[00:18:45] And then you live in Florida where you dig five feet and you hit water.

[00:18:48] So I have a basement there.

[00:18:51] Yeah. And now I live in Texas where it's limestone five feet down.

[00:18:55] Can't build a basement here.

[00:18:57] I'm like, all I want is a basement.

[00:18:59] It's give and take, you know, and have winters.

[00:19:02] We had swimming pools, you know, like in in the ground swimming pools

[00:19:09] where they had those weirdo ones in the north that always made me feel like

[00:19:14] this shit's going to explode. I feel it.

[00:19:17] I don't feel safe.

[00:19:19] Pretty much getting back to the party.

[00:19:22] Maddie decides that he wants to give Jenna her gift.

[00:19:26] And let me just tell you grown up, Daniel, watching this thing.

[00:19:33] Maddie would have got it on spot.

[00:19:38] I did write the Jenna Dreamhouse with a heart next to it.

[00:19:42] Yeah. Maddie would have gotten it because

[00:19:45] and like the thing I love about it, it was handcrafted

[00:19:49] like he could work into that.

[00:19:52] And even though he hated Rick Springfield,

[00:19:55] he put him in there because he knew Jenna loved him.

[00:19:57] But Maddie was not a dumb dumb.

[00:19:59] He made sure to put himself in that dream house as well.

[00:20:03] Loved it. So cute.

[00:20:05] And would and then he gets the magic.

[00:20:08] What is it? The wish?

[00:20:10] Yeah, wish dust, wish dust.

[00:20:13] All I thought was I said this to Surin.

[00:20:16] I said, Mom, like kick our ass if we got all that glitter on the floor.

[00:20:20] Because, you know, that's all it was.

[00:20:22] And then Jenna, being an asshole, she decides to put it in the closet and hide it away.

[00:20:28] And then all the six chicks and Chris,

[00:20:31] Grandi, you see her go to get the door for, you know, these kids.

[00:20:36] My sister was like, are they want to grown as men coming to this party?

[00:20:39] I said, they're kids.

[00:20:41] Yeah, I said, did Hanson just get out of the car?

[00:20:46] She was like, why do they have letterman jackets?

[00:20:48] I was like, JV.

[00:20:51] Maybe that's how they were doing in 87.

[00:20:53] I have no idea.

[00:20:54] So they all get there.

[00:20:56] She had a really good spread of food, by the way.

[00:20:58] Maddie dancing like no one is watching.

[00:21:03] What was it?

[00:21:03] Crowd and house that he was listening to, I think.

[00:21:06] It's the burner now in the house.

[00:21:09] Oh, shit. I don't know.

[00:21:11] Yeah, it is.

[00:21:11] I just don't know who sings it, but it doesn't matter.

[00:21:14] So Maddie's dancing.

[00:21:16] He looks, you know, the kids persecute him for that.

[00:21:19] And then he says he's going to go get his casio.

[00:21:22] I was just thinking to myself, again, Maddie's rich as fuck.

[00:21:25] You know how much some casios were.

[00:21:28] So he goes, he leaves.

[00:21:29] Then Tom Tom says, hey, where's that report?

[00:21:33] By the way, let's play Seven Minutes of Heaven.

[00:21:35] I do feel like I was such a late bloomer.

[00:21:38] I never got to play that game.

[00:21:40] I never played it either.

[00:21:41] Not that I wanted to.

[00:21:44] Yeah, yeah.

[00:21:45] I don't have nostalgia for missing out on Seven Minutes of Heaven.

[00:21:48] It just I just see so many movies and I'm like, did everyone do this?

[00:21:53] Like how did how did that happen in the bottle?

[00:21:55] We never played that either.

[00:21:57] Yeah, I don't.

[00:21:57] Yeah, no, no, we didn't.

[00:22:00] Gross. Who who wants to kiss a bunch of Rando's?

[00:22:03] No, thank you.

[00:22:04] Even the ones you knew you didn't want to kiss.

[00:22:07] Mm hmm.

[00:22:09] So they put Jenna in the closet.

[00:22:12] She wraps her eyes with her scarf, steals her presentation that Jenna wrote.

[00:22:18] All of them grab all the food and they dip, which I just think like you guys.

[00:22:23] There's a special hell for you, honestly and truly were dicks.

[00:22:26] They were.

[00:22:27] And then here comes Maddie back with this Casio and Tom Tom says,

[00:22:30] you know, Jenna's in the closet waiting for you.

[00:22:32] He goes in.

[00:22:34] She's like, oh, Chris.

[00:22:35] And he's like, hold up, bitch.

[00:22:37] I am Chris and she has like a full on Karen Esk meltdown.

[00:22:44] I literally wrote what a wench yelling at Maddie like that.

[00:22:49] He wrote her a song and built her a dream house.

[00:22:53] I mean, to me, I don't see nothing but husband material.

[00:22:59] So yeah, she has a full on meltdown pushes Maddie,

[00:23:02] close the door, starts knocking her head like a psychopath.

[00:23:06] And all of a sudden that that wonderful glitter turns into magic.

[00:23:12] I love when movies have magic, but don't explain it.

[00:23:16] Like, OK, we're just going to go with this.

[00:23:19] And then she wakes up and what I loved was the tie in of that fabric

[00:23:25] that they used for the neck scarf that was put on her eyes.

[00:23:29] When she wakes up as 30, it turns into her eye mask.

[00:23:33] And later down the line, it turns into the dress.

[00:23:36] The lady of the costume designer actually on this movie

[00:23:39] has worked with Jennifer Garner like in seven different movies.

[00:23:42] So much so that I think they work together in that last movie

[00:23:46] yesterday that was on Netflix and there's a scene where she's wearing

[00:23:49] this pearl necklace and it's from 13 Going on 30 as like.

[00:23:54] Yeah, a little shout out.

[00:23:56] So like you said, it's very big ask where she wakes up

[00:23:59] and she's a grown up.

[00:24:01] Ken turns me and he said, she got scrunched.

[00:24:09] I was like, what are you talking about?

[00:24:10] Scrunchies like, you know, scrunched like I was the idiot.

[00:24:14] Right. Like.

[00:24:17] I really don't know what you mean with scrunched.

[00:24:21] And he's like, you know, the guy in the ghost visits him.

[00:24:26] Scrunch.

[00:24:28] Hold on.

[00:24:29] Did you just combine scrunch and grinch and get scrunch out of that?

[00:24:35] So now that is my new favorite term for anything.

[00:24:38] But what is it?

[00:24:40] But what does it mean?

[00:24:41] Like over the course of the movie, she realizes like she was a shitty person.

[00:24:46] And so then she has an opportunity to go and like write things.

[00:24:49] You know what? I'm sorry, Ken, that I even laughed at that.

[00:24:52] That's actually very smart.

[00:24:53] I like that.

[00:24:56] Aside from it being scrunched and not scrunched.

[00:24:59] Yeah, well, I mean, the Grinch does learn the same way too.

[00:25:03] Yeah. So he wasn't he wasn't wrong.

[00:25:06] No, make it up words and shit.

[00:25:12] In her Fifth Avenue apartment.

[00:25:16] Which is the same apartment that's actually in the magazine that she's reading.

[00:25:20] So it's just like an updated version.

[00:25:23] Her penthouse on in Manhattan.

[00:25:27] So pretty much fast forward, she's trying to like get

[00:25:31] figure out what the hell is happening.

[00:25:33] She realizes that she's in this older version of herself, you know,

[00:25:36] in a body that is still her.

[00:25:39] She realizes she has a boyfriend, but she doesn't.

[00:25:42] I don't know if she noticed.

[00:25:43] She just thinks there's some strange guy.

[00:25:45] She's just all discombobulated.

[00:25:48] All your sweep on them.

[00:25:50] My sister said he's a himbo.

[00:25:53] I said, yes, he is.

[00:25:55] He is a himbo. Yeah.

[00:25:57] Good on you, Serena.

[00:26:00] So she runs out pretty much in like a slip and a jacket

[00:26:04] and everybody's like, that's fine.

[00:26:06] I'm the nineties or it's the early 2000s.

[00:26:10] And then the late 90s, we went through a

[00:26:12] yeah, slip, nighty as a dress phase.

[00:26:17] Yeah, I want I want to say maybe early 2000s.

[00:26:21] Well, even like Courtney Love was wearing them in the early 90s.

[00:26:26] Like she'd wear those like baby doll dresses and stuff like that, whatever.

[00:26:31] So she runs outside and she's introduced to her best friends, co-worker

[00:26:37] who we find out is actually Tom Tom, all grown up, which is Judy Greer,

[00:26:41] who Jennifer Garner and Judy Greer are actually really good friends in real life.

[00:26:44] So they were both saying how hard it was to be mean to each other on the set.

[00:26:47] This was Jennifer Garner's first big movie.

[00:26:51] Yes, she started a job, Jen.

[00:26:56] So they get in this wonderful limousine or car service that picks them up

[00:26:59] and they head to their job and Tom Tom kind of gives her a download

[00:27:04] of what the hell is going on.

[00:27:05] Like you work for poise, you're an editor, I'm an editor.

[00:27:09] And, you know, Jen is like, oh my god, this is awesome.

[00:27:13] But I don't know what the hell is going on still.

[00:27:15] I like when they go in and you're introduced to Richard played by Andy Serkis.

[00:27:21] And he yells, who's your daddy?

[00:27:24] And she turns around goes, Wayne Rink.

[00:27:26] I know that's my favorite line of the whole movie.

[00:27:30] Just the way that she says it.

[00:27:31] And you know what?

[00:27:32] I what I love about Jennifer Garner is that like she just encompasses

[00:27:37] every role that she takes.

[00:27:38] But there's not a lot of people that would have been able to take on this

[00:27:42] role and have that like childlike innocence.

[00:27:45] And that's why I think big was so good with Tom Hanks, because he was

[00:27:50] able to, you know, resonate the same way.

[00:27:52] Yeah, they have that enthusiasm for all of the things in life.

[00:27:57] And like, wow, this is so cool.

[00:27:59] Yeah, you can believe it's like a 13 year old really in their body.

[00:28:03] Yeah.

[00:28:03] The other line from that scene that I love was her secretary walks up

[00:28:08] and she says, have you made a decision on Eminem?

[00:28:12] Yeah, this is plain.

[00:28:14] Oh, plain.

[00:28:19] So good.

[00:28:20] I just think it's so weird.

[00:28:21] Like if you came out of your apartment, talking all sorts of craziness,

[00:28:28] didn't know what your cell phone was, didn't know where we've worked.

[00:28:31] Like there were so many signs that a good friend would have been like,

[00:28:35] you know what, baby girl, let's let's take a day off because something's wrong.

[00:28:40] You need to go back to bed.

[00:28:42] Yeah, I would have been highly concerned.

[00:28:46] You know, there were so many weird things that were happening there.

[00:28:49] So, you know, she goes into work and then you get kind of like that Easter egg

[00:28:53] when she goes in her office and she's going through those papers in her

[00:28:56] drawer, you see those sparkle envelopes in there.

[00:29:01] But you don't really notice.

[00:29:02] But two and two together.

[00:29:03] Another cool thing is there is a picture of Madonna in her office

[00:29:08] and it's signed from Madonna.

[00:29:10] But if you, in the beginning of the movie, it was actually on her wall

[00:29:16] that it wasn't signed.

[00:29:17] So I thought that was a cool throwback.

[00:29:19] And one thing we didn't even talk about was that the movie

[00:29:23] exactly 13 minutes into the movie is when Jenna turns 30,

[00:29:26] which I thought was another cool play on.

[00:29:29] Yeah, the little cinematic.

[00:29:31] Yeah. Touches that they did.

[00:29:35] So she's she's very concerned and she knows the one person that will

[00:29:39] ground her is Maddie.

[00:29:41] And so she asked her secretary to get his phone number

[00:29:45] and she shows up at his apartment.

[00:29:48] And he's super confused because since that day of her 13th birthday

[00:29:52] where she rejected him, they were no longer friends.

[00:29:56] Yeah.

[00:29:57] And I think he kind of like, I mean, she feels safe enough to tell him

[00:30:01] what is happening to her versus that what she wasn't able to actually

[00:30:04] tell Tom Tom, which I thought was, you know, telling.

[00:30:08] And I feel like he kind of believes her, you know,

[00:30:12] because she's acting so bizarre.

[00:30:15] Yeah. Like it's it's.

[00:30:19] Why would someone random person just come and make this up?

[00:30:24] But I also think that he sees a glimmer of who he loved when he was younger.

[00:30:30] And I think that's what puts it over the edge for him.

[00:30:33] And I'm just going to say this.

[00:30:36] I love Mark Ruffalo.

[00:30:39] Always.

[00:30:41] He always has wet mouth.

[00:30:43] No, very.

[00:30:46] Now I'm going to now I'm going to see that like I haven't noticed it.

[00:30:49] But now that's what I'm going to see.

[00:30:50] Thanks, Jack.

[00:30:52] So I'm sorry, I've ruined Mark Ruffalo for everyone.

[00:30:55] But Dorham, he just always has wet mouth.

[00:30:59] The one thing that I want to talk about before we go any further

[00:31:04] is did J. Lo get a check for as much that she's in that movie

[00:31:11] because she's on the cover of that magazine?

[00:31:13] Like she's all sprinkled throughout that movie.

[00:31:15] But the fight, the fun fact about that whole thing

[00:31:18] that's all coming back together, especially right now,

[00:31:21] because Ben Affleck is back.

[00:31:23] While filming that movie, J. Lo and Ben Affleck were together.

[00:31:28] As we know, Jen Garner married Ben Affleck later

[00:31:32] in 2004, they started dating again.

[00:31:35] They started dating.

[00:31:36] But when the movie was being made, he was with J. Lo

[00:31:40] and then the movie came out in 2004.

[00:31:44] And then J. Lo and Ben Affleck, J. Lo and Ben were done.

[00:31:48] And then Jennifer Garner and Ben started dating, you know,

[00:31:51] after they had met on the scene of Daredevil years before.

[00:31:55] So I was just like, look at this, look at this.

[00:31:59] And now it's full circle.

[00:32:01] But could you imagine being J. Lo?

[00:32:05] You broke up with your like few weeks before your wedding.

[00:32:08] Y'all break up.

[00:32:09] He goes and marries another Jennifer, who he was in a movie with while.

[00:32:15] Y'all were together, right?

[00:32:16] Friends.

[00:32:17] And then not only is he with this bitch, I'm all over this goddamn movie that she's in.

[00:32:25] I would have been hella pissed.

[00:32:28] But I guess the city, I guess she's getting the last laugh now,

[00:32:32] even if it's just a publicity stunt.

[00:32:34] I'm 100 percent invested like what's happening?

[00:32:40] Just want to call that out because I was so weird.

[00:32:42] Like J. Lo is all over this movie.

[00:32:45] So she's at the magazine.

[00:32:47] No, sorry.

[00:32:49] She met Maddie.

[00:32:50] He's he agreed to help her out.

[00:32:52] Well, I think no, no.

[00:32:55] Oh yeah, help her out by going to her apartment and stuff like that.

[00:32:58] Yeah, you're right. Sorry.

[00:33:00] And then she finds out she finds out that she's no longer close with her

[00:33:04] parents and they're like off on a cruise and she's upset that they didn't take her with her.

[00:33:09] I felt that.

[00:33:10] Yeah.

[00:33:12] I felt that line when she called the answer,

[00:33:15] she did they're like, yeah, we're on a cruise like how could you go on a cruise without me?

[00:33:21] Yeah.

[00:33:22] And then she gets all dressed because they have a party that evening.

[00:33:26] She invites Maddie before he leaves and then, of course,

[00:33:30] you can't have an early 2000s late 90s movie without some sort of crazy closet scene

[00:33:37] getting dressed up scene and she puts on some cool outfit.

[00:33:42] And I don't know what she was doing with her hair,

[00:33:44] but there was a lot of sparkles and clips.

[00:33:47] Well, she curled it, but then it was all spiky.

[00:33:50] Yes, I would see.

[00:33:52] I was watching that too.

[00:33:53] It's like, what happened?

[00:33:57] And then she gets in the elevator, talks to this team girl

[00:34:02] and the girls like, you've never talked to me before.

[00:34:04] This is weird.

[00:34:06] And then they start complimenting each other in the way that like 13 year old girls

[00:34:11] trying to make friends do, like, like your hair.

[00:34:14] Oh, I like your dress.

[00:34:15] And she says, because I got these incredible boobs to fill it out.

[00:34:20] And I was like, Jen, baby girl, I love you, but don't my A plus maybe B

[00:34:27] and that dress is not flattering in the boobage area.

[00:34:31] No, you got one big boob.

[00:34:33] And it's all smushed.

[00:34:36] Yeah, well, she is 13.

[00:34:37] She didn't know better.

[00:34:38] She probably didn't even put on the right bra.

[00:34:40] But I there's so many weird things in this movie when it comes to

[00:34:46] like adult Jenna interacting with young children.

[00:34:49] And I'm just like, this is weird.

[00:34:52] Why are you asking this child if she could see your underwear?

[00:34:57] Yeah.

[00:34:58] So she goes to the party.

[00:35:01] She's excited because she can get her drink on for the first time.

[00:35:04] Why does she keep throwing food out?

[00:35:06] I don't know.

[00:35:08] I felt so bad for that guy that kept getting hit with all the stuff.

[00:35:12] I would have been helipast.

[00:35:14] The party is becoming a wash.

[00:35:16] And so her boss played by Andy Serkis and Tom Tom.

[00:35:20] I what is her real name?

[00:35:22] What is she called Lucy?

[00:35:24] And Lucy are like, this is really bad.

[00:35:28] They run into the other editor of the competing magazine, Sparkle Trish.

[00:35:33] And which I love she calls her frizzy and she said, you are mean

[00:35:37] and rude and sloppy and frizzy.

[00:35:38] And I don't like you at all.

[00:35:40] God, I wish I could just say that to all the people I can stand.

[00:35:43] Same. Yeah.

[00:35:45] So she, of course, thinks what's the best way to make this party pop?

[00:35:51] I know get a bunch of drunk white people to do thriller,

[00:35:56] which is now a 17 year old dance.

[00:36:00] Oh, OK, well, I mean, it's still cool.

[00:36:04] It is cool.

[00:36:05] But how many people know all the steps to thriller?

[00:36:09] I do. Well, in the 2000s.

[00:36:13] Well, you know what?

[00:36:13] I think those people would have because all of those kids,

[00:36:17] all those people grew on the age range who grew up.

[00:36:20] Like if we did it at our age, people would kind of know, but not really.

[00:36:25] But for them, when MTV only played like six different videos,

[00:36:30] they probably all memorized it secretly,

[00:36:33] except Mark Ruffalo, who had a huge issue.

[00:36:36] Tell us why, Jackie. Tell us why.

[00:36:39] Mark Ruffalo almost did not do this movie

[00:36:42] because he had to participate in the thriller dance scene

[00:36:46] and he was not comfortable doing so.

[00:36:49] And I believe it was Jennifer Garner who convinced him

[00:36:52] that he could do hard things.

[00:36:54] And kind of coached him through it and encouraged him.

[00:36:59] And because their chemistry was so good

[00:37:02] and her enthusiasm was so infectious,

[00:37:05] he felt more comfortable to do the dance.

[00:37:07] And they had dance classes together.

[00:37:10] It was her, him and Judy Greer, I think all took dance classes.

[00:37:14] Andy Serkis did not need those dance classes.

[00:37:16] Clearly he had been waiting his whole life for this.

[00:37:19] But if you watch the movie knowing this fact now,

[00:37:23] you can see how strategically they tried to hide.

[00:37:29] Mark Ruffalo, Maddie.

[00:37:32] So you couldn't see how poorly he could dance.

[00:37:34] And then he was able to play off that.

[00:37:36] I don't quite remember the dance.

[00:37:38] Yeah, kind of vibes for a while.

[00:37:40] He was a talking heads.

[00:37:41] He wasn't a Michael Jackson.

[00:37:43] No, he wasn't.

[00:37:44] He wasn't one of the most iconic lines from that scene

[00:37:49] from the whole movie.

[00:37:50] Yeah, Maddie.

[00:37:51] Maddie, come here.

[00:37:53] It's a thriller.

[00:37:55] Thriller, Maddie.

[00:37:57] Yeah.

[00:37:58] And then my favorite part is when she's walking,

[00:38:02] like she starts doing the dance and then she sees Maddie

[00:38:04] and she starts calling him.

[00:38:05] But when she goes to get him, she does that like boob shaking.

[00:38:08] Me.

[00:38:11] I was like, oh, I love this piece so much.

[00:38:14] So yeah, they do the dance.

[00:38:16] But Maddie like dips out halfway through.

[00:38:19] I don't know if it's guilt or whatever.

[00:38:22] Because Maddie does have a fiance, a fiance.

[00:38:26] Yeah, her name is.

[00:38:29] Well, then I wrote it down.

[00:38:30] I like Wendy, Wendy, the passive aggressive.

[00:38:35] I know you're trying to steal my man,

[00:38:36] but I ain't even going to pay attention to you.

[00:38:38] Oh, I'm not mad at her because, you know what?

[00:38:43] As I went through this movie, you could think it's Wendy.

[00:38:46] That's the villain.

[00:38:47] You can think it's Tom, Tom.

[00:38:48] That's the villain.

[00:38:49] But Jenna is the villain in this movie.

[00:38:51] Yes.

[00:38:52] And not current Jenna, but the one that the life

[00:38:55] in which she has come into that Jenna who existed.

[00:38:59] She a bitch.

[00:39:00] She was a garbage person.

[00:39:02] Yeah, she was awful.

[00:39:03] Yeah.

[00:39:05] So I don't have any slander for Wendy.

[00:39:09] No, she was just, she was engaged.

[00:39:11] She thought she was solid.

[00:39:13] I mean, the only thing I could fault her for

[00:39:15] was like trying to tell Maddie he had to move

[00:39:18] to the windy city.

[00:39:21] Well, she probably was making more money than him.

[00:39:23] That's true.

[00:39:24] And he can freelance.

[00:39:26] Anywhere.

[00:39:27] Yeah.

[00:39:28] Yeah.

[00:39:29] So we fast forward to dinner out with Tom Tom.

[00:39:35] Yeah.

[00:39:36] Now here's another cringy scene.

[00:39:38] Oh God, it was so bad.

[00:39:40] Tom Tom tells Jenna that there's a guy like

[00:39:43] checking her out.

[00:39:44] Jenna like slightly looks behind her and is like really

[00:39:47] and gets really excited.

[00:39:49] And then she proceeds to walk like we think to this man.

[00:39:53] She walks over to a child and starts to flirt with him

[00:39:57] and tries to ask him out and I'm like,

[00:40:00] he flirts back.

[00:40:02] Well, he's a, I mean, come on, of course.

[00:40:04] But like just that kid has some balls

[00:40:08] cause this gorgeous 30 year old woman,

[00:40:14] sure.

[00:40:15] Wish your name, wish your number.

[00:40:18] I just was like, oh, oh God, but at least, you know,

[00:40:22] her friend comes and says, okay, hey, by the way, this is bad.

[00:40:27] So then they go outside, they run into Maddie.

[00:40:30] He realizes Tom Tom is Lucy, Lucy is Tom Tom

[00:40:34] and they have their banter cause they hate each other.

[00:40:37] And then...

[00:40:38] The boyfriend shows up.

[00:40:40] Wendy comes.

[00:40:41] Oh yeah.

[00:40:42] And then he's like, I don't, I don't, you're who now?

[00:40:47] Yeah.

[00:40:48] And then the himbo comes.

[00:40:50] Oh that himbo.

[00:40:52] And then they go back to the himbo's apartment.

[00:40:55] He has a very large shark and a very small tank

[00:40:59] which was upsetting and concerning.

[00:41:02] Oh, I thought you were gonna talk about

[00:41:04] how many forms were in his underwear.

[00:41:10] Serena and I were like, wait, that don't look right.

[00:41:13] There was a lot of, there's a lot going on there.

[00:41:18] Well, first off, we're in the tidy whiteies.

[00:41:22] Yeah.

[00:41:23] Not as sexy undergarment in any form or fashion.

[00:41:28] And then the raunchy striptease, which was not raunchy.

[00:41:34] He has no rhythm and that's coming from someone

[00:41:37] who also has no rhythm.

[00:41:38] But knows not to try and give a striptease

[00:41:41] because of the no rhythm having.

[00:41:43] Is it?

[00:41:44] And then I realized that it was Ice Ice Baby

[00:41:50] because he was a hockey player.

[00:41:52] Really, he just realized that, Jackie?

[00:41:55] Then now, you know, sometimes things go

[00:41:59] for my head for many, many years.

[00:42:02] I met vanilla ice once, I have a picture with him.

[00:42:04] It's one of my crowning moments.

[00:42:08] We just gonna name drop every episode now.

[00:42:14] It was relevant.

[00:42:15] So she leaves and then is this when they go to work

[00:42:19] and they find out that the magazine is?

[00:42:22] Yes, let's talk about that outfit.

[00:42:25] Which one?

[00:42:27] The one where she has what looks like porcupine quills

[00:42:30] in her hair in those low buns.

[00:42:32] Yeah.

[00:42:33] And the...

[00:42:34] Big tail buns and it's like a camo green,

[00:42:36] like olive drab green.

[00:42:38] Yeah.

[00:42:39] And that tank top.

[00:42:40] It is so good.

[00:42:42] Perfection.

[00:42:43] Like out of all of her outfits.

[00:42:45] That was my favorite.

[00:42:47] Yeah.

[00:42:47] And the purse.

[00:42:48] I don't know which purse it is,

[00:42:51] but I thought it was Dior, but I'm not sure.

[00:42:54] But I remember like a few of them looking the same

[00:42:57] and just so good.

[00:43:00] So good.

[00:43:01] So, so good.

[00:43:03] This is how despicable Jenna 1.0 was or 2.0.

[00:43:08] I'm not really sure which one to call it.

[00:43:10] I'll say 2.0.

[00:43:11] She literally has the art director's husband

[00:43:15] come into her office so that they can get it on

[00:43:18] because she's done it before.

[00:43:20] You said like...

[00:43:21] Disgusting.

[00:43:23] And I love her reaction.

[00:43:25] Yeah.

[00:43:26] Pookie.

[00:43:27] You mean...

[00:43:28] Pookie.

[00:43:29] Pookie.

[00:43:29] Which is a 13 year old.

[00:43:35] I feel like I would have said that.

[00:43:38] When she's sitting in that meeting

[00:43:40] and she has a rollup around her finger

[00:43:43] and she's just like gnawing on it.

[00:43:45] Like that is also a middle school thing

[00:43:47] if I've ever seen it.

[00:43:49] Good old fruit rollups.

[00:43:51] And I love how like excited

[00:43:53] that her secretary gets watching her transition.

[00:43:57] Also her clothes, if you notice

[00:43:59] that they start to become warmer colors

[00:44:02] throughout the movies.

[00:44:03] The movie as Jenna's personality progresses

[00:44:07] to kinder.

[00:44:09] So they find out that the magazine's going under

[00:44:11] and that they have to have a redesign.

[00:44:15] And then after that scene of her punch

[00:44:17] knocking that guy in his balls or whatever

[00:44:20] she walks over and she accidentally hears Tom Tom

[00:44:25] and another person like maybe he's the art director.

[00:44:28] I don't know.

[00:44:29] She was so busy plotting

[00:44:31] she would see her husband and was trash.

[00:44:33] They were talking about, you know

[00:44:35] doing a separate proposal without Jenna.

[00:44:38] Yeah.

[00:44:39] And so then Jenna has to decide

[00:44:41] that she's going to go into her own and she.

[00:44:44] She reaches out to Maddie.

[00:44:46] Yeah.

[00:44:47] To be the photographer

[00:44:48] and she has this wonderful idea

[00:44:52] of getting back to almost a yearbook.

[00:44:56] Now you say wonderful.

[00:44:59] This is the only part of the movie

[00:45:03] that really gives me problems.

[00:45:05] Like as a marketer.

[00:45:09] And OK, so when you talk about redesign for a magazine

[00:45:14] having a but like to me all she did

[00:45:19] was take a bunch of pictures and had a theme

[00:45:23] which would have been maybe a special issue

[00:45:25] or like something that would have been in the magazine.

[00:45:27] But now what I would call as a redesign

[00:45:29] like unless you're telling me

[00:45:31] that this entire magazine is just going to be

[00:45:36] yearbook style, like are you just

[00:45:39] are you trying to say that you're getting back

[00:45:40] to having real life people in it?

[00:45:43] I just I felt like it and it could be

[00:45:46] it would be marketed to a larger audience.

[00:45:51] You know, a broader.

[00:45:53] Yeah. And again, I'd be like, yeah, that's not

[00:45:57] that's not really smart.

[00:45:58] That's because in magazines

[00:46:00] you have your niches for a reason

[00:46:01] because when you try to target to everybody,

[00:46:03] then you really don't know how to.

[00:46:06] To find your target audience.

[00:46:08] If everybody's your target, you're not a newspaper, right?

[00:46:11] Like you're a fashion magazine.

[00:46:14] Well. I enjoyed the first.

[00:46:18] No, I know.

[00:46:19] And I know everyone's not going to feel the same way as me.

[00:46:22] And I get it.

[00:46:23] But it really was it's always been troubling to me.

[00:46:25] And I want to talk to somebody like,

[00:46:27] can I talk to your manager, please?

[00:46:29] And tell me what's happening?

[00:46:31] Like that always bothered me.

[00:46:34] But when he went, I will say when she went to talk to Matt

[00:46:38] about doing the photography, which she had,

[00:46:42] I'm assuming a pretty fat check for him cut already.

[00:46:45] Yeah. And she was like, half now, half when you finish.

[00:46:48] Right. He had talked about.

[00:46:52] In some context, how he hadn't felt that way

[00:46:55] about a girl since high school, which was her falling in love.

[00:46:59] And I thought that was really sweet because it was.

[00:47:01] Yeah, it was definitely Jenna.

[00:47:03] And then that whole montage, one of like my favorite Billy Joel song ever.

[00:47:09] What is Viana is such a beautiful song and it fits so perfectly in that,

[00:47:14] in that scene.

[00:47:16] And that's when she's going home and kind of rediscovering.

[00:47:19] It was weird that as a 30 year old woman,

[00:47:23] she crawled in bed with her parents.

[00:47:26] Oh, no. That wasn't what was weird to me.

[00:47:30] I mean, I don't know what the experience is to have a parent that has like,

[00:47:34] like my parents weren't together.

[00:47:36] So it probably would have been weird to like in the bed with both my parents.

[00:47:40] But yeah, I get in the bed with my mom and my grandma.

[00:47:45] If it if it seems stressful, it felt weird because you know

[00:47:51] that she literally has not talked to her parents in like two years.

[00:47:55] And all of a sudden she's home and curling into bed with them.

[00:48:00] Like it just it felt like to me, it felt it felt it actually felt normal

[00:48:06] because yes, she's there. She's 30, but this is still the 13 year old.

[00:48:11] And the 13 year old would have crawled into the bed with her mom.

[00:48:15] And you know, it's raining.

[00:48:18] It's thundering.

[00:48:19] It felt like something a kid would do.

[00:48:21] And I think they probably did that to her.

[00:48:22] Still remind us that she still is that kid.

[00:48:26] But I also had a question.

[00:48:28] What if Matt had said no to the photo shoot?

[00:48:31] Yeah, I don't know.

[00:48:34] She would have gotten another photographer.

[00:48:36] And how much did she spend?

[00:48:39] Because there was a lot of props set up extras.

[00:48:45] That was not really going to run to Central Park and do this.

[00:48:49] Probably a good 50 to 60 thousand dollars.

[00:48:52] Yeah, that's for a magazine that's going under.

[00:48:56] I feel like that would not have been in the budget for them.

[00:48:59] Yeah, you they probably would have been like we have no budget to come up with this redesign.

[00:49:04] Yep. Yeah, that's why we're asking y'all.

[00:49:07] Right. Yeah.

[00:49:10] Again, all of those things like there was an entertainment weekly article

[00:49:14] that went through just like how much it would have cost for Matt and Jenna

[00:49:18] to live in their New York City apartments.

[00:49:20] He let him living in Greenwich Village, you know, and her living in Park Avenue.

[00:49:26] Like millions of dollars.

[00:49:28] It not even didn't even make sense for a photographer of his caliber

[00:49:34] to have that Greenwich Village apartment crazy.

[00:49:37] Not even possible.

[00:49:39] But if he was getting them that money, that Casio money from his parents,

[00:49:43] then maybe it makes it.

[00:49:46] They were just putting them up in an apartment

[00:49:48] in a Greenwich Village to fulfill his lifelong dream.

[00:49:52] But we have to talk about the sleepover scene.

[00:49:55] Oh, gosh. Yeah.

[00:49:57] Like.

[00:50:00] As a godmother or an auntie, close friend, maybe I could see this scenario

[00:50:06] happening where I am having a slumber party for all these children.

[00:50:10] But not for the rando neighbor who doesn't talk to anybody.

[00:50:14] All of a sudden, am I going to let seven underage children

[00:50:19] have a sleepover with this random lady?

[00:50:21] And like they're wearing her bras.

[00:50:24] They're wearing her clothes.

[00:50:27] Like it's just very awkward.

[00:50:29] It's so weird.

[00:50:31] And so apparently the director fought the studio on this.

[00:50:34] He did not want the scene.

[00:50:36] Like and I understand it didn't make any damn sense.

[00:50:39] But the studio for some reason really wanted it.

[00:50:43] I don't know what.

[00:50:45] I mean, I guess it performed well.

[00:50:47] People say that they like this scene.

[00:50:49] I just think you and I just think it's weird.

[00:50:51] But yeah, it could be.

[00:50:54] I don't know.

[00:50:55] Some things don't age well.

[00:50:56] That I think the scene is one of them.

[00:50:58] Agreed.

[00:50:59] Hopping back to the photo shoot, they finished the photos shoot.

[00:51:02] It was a huge success.

[00:51:04] Her and Maddie are now walking around New York City

[00:51:07] to like celebrate.

[00:51:09] They get their razzles, their favorite candy.

[00:51:12] Which I don't think is believable at all

[00:51:14] because I've been to many of corner store in New York.

[00:51:18] And I know there's no damn razzles.

[00:51:21] So they lie.

[00:51:22] And then that whole awkward exchange

[00:51:24] where Jenna is demanding that Maddie look at her tongue

[00:51:28] and then show her his tongue.

[00:51:31] Like it just it was a very, very clunky, awkward exchange.

[00:51:36] And then they go and swing on the swings

[00:51:38] and they're like whoever jumps the furthest

[00:51:41] has to buy dinner or something like that.

[00:51:43] And then that swing jump execution, not stellar.

[00:51:47] I just kept thinking grass stains, grass stains.

[00:51:51] Or was it was it sand?

[00:51:52] I'm not sure.

[00:51:53] Yeah. Yeah.

[00:51:54] And then she lands on top of him

[00:51:56] and they have this moment where it feels like

[00:51:59] they're going to kiss me as a viewer.

[00:52:01] Like he's engaged to be married.

[00:52:04] He is betrothed to another.

[00:52:06] Maddie is playing with fire.

[00:52:08] Well, you know what they say?

[00:52:10] If he married, he's still single.

[00:52:12] I'm just saying that's what the streets say is not me.

[00:52:16] They go into the office the next day, have their proposals.

[00:52:20] Tom Tom does this weird acid LSD proposal

[00:52:24] where it's she said, we're going to do heroin,

[00:52:28] chic one better, we're going to OD.

[00:52:32] And then she says cause of death,

[00:52:35] she can't.

[00:52:36] I like this.

[00:52:37] This is any sense.

[00:52:40] I'm uncomfortable and are you promoting drugs in a magazine?

[00:52:43] Now, is this what's happening?

[00:52:45] And when it like when Andy Circus's face was like,

[00:52:48] well, fuck, he, you know, then she leaves

[00:52:51] and is on a rampage, she's like throwing shit on the floor.

[00:52:55] She had that bag, that empty bag.

[00:52:58] I was dying.

[00:53:00] And then of course, she goes into Jenna's office

[00:53:03] and start looking through her shit, finds out that Jenna has been the mole

[00:53:07] the whole time with Sparkle, unbeknownst to everybody else.

[00:53:10] She makes her own deal to be editor in chief at Sparkle.

[00:53:16] And at this time, Maddie walks in looking for Jenna because, you know,

[00:53:22] they were supposed to go out to dinner, I think.

[00:53:24] Yeah. And Wendy came back into town

[00:53:27] and they decided to move up the wedding.

[00:53:30] But Jenna doesn't know all this.

[00:53:32] And then Tom Tom says whatever she says to him,

[00:53:35] asking the sign of release unknowingly.

[00:53:37] He signs it.

[00:53:38] He just, you know, wanted to talk to Jenna and he doesn't want to deal with Tom Tom.

[00:53:42] Jenna goes and presents her wonderful yearbook idea that makes no sense to me.

[00:53:47] And everyone loves it.

[00:53:49] And they think they're going to see the magazine

[00:53:51] and then not too long after Jenna finds out from her boss

[00:53:54] that Tom Tom has dick them all over.

[00:53:56] The magazine is going under.

[00:53:58] And she's told Jenna's idea and sold it to Sparkle.

[00:54:04] Sparkle. And she tries to confront Tom Tom.

[00:54:06] But, you know, again, Tom Tom's not the villain.

[00:54:09] She's not.

[00:54:10] She's like, do you want to be the pot or the kettle?

[00:54:12] You were doing the thing and I just did it back to you.

[00:54:16] Like, right. Then Jenna is.

[00:54:20] Very upset.

[00:54:22] Matt stands her up because he was going to tell her that he can

[00:54:27] go to the restaurant and that message was never relayed.

[00:54:32] And so she's very upset.

[00:54:34] And I think Tom Tom does Tom Tom tell her that the weddings moved up?

[00:54:39] How does she find out that the weddings moved up?

[00:54:42] I feel like it had to be her because I don't think she talks to anybody else.

[00:54:45] And so then she she goes in.

[00:54:48] She she goes across New York.

[00:54:51] She hops in a cab to go to New Jersey and low in the hold.

[00:54:57] What's his name?

[00:54:58] Chris Grandy. Chris.

[00:55:00] Grandy is driving the cab played by Jim Gaffigan,

[00:55:06] who has no funny lines.

[00:55:09] And like this is a very underused actor that you are.

[00:55:14] I wonder, like, was that one of that wasn't one of his first movies, was it?

[00:55:18] I don't know. I'd have to look.

[00:55:20] But I just was like, wait a minute.

[00:55:23] Is that is that?

[00:55:26] Jim Gaffigan.

[00:55:27] And then I was like, why is he not being funny?

[00:55:30] This whole scene is not funny and it's stupid.

[00:55:33] Yeah. Well, he just I think he just needed a paycheck.

[00:55:37] I think that's just one of those cases.

[00:55:40] And so she shows up.

[00:55:41] She she tells Matt her true feelings for him.

[00:55:45] And I mean, he's an upstanding guy.

[00:55:49] And he's like, no, maybe if things had gone this way in high school,

[00:55:54] things would be different.

[00:55:55] But I've committed to Wendy.

[00:55:58] I'm going to marry Wendy and Jenna accepts that.

[00:56:01] She's kind of just like, you don't always get the dream house.

[00:56:04] And I hope that you're really happy.

[00:56:08] And so you see that very scrinched.

[00:56:11] Yeah. Like we come to terms full circle.

[00:56:15] She is back to the Jenna of old.

[00:56:19] And that had to happen.

[00:56:20] Like if he had left and whatever, then, you know,

[00:56:23] Jenna has to go back in time.

[00:56:25] Don't forget to write a review.

[00:56:27] And then she sees that featured and help us throw out apples,

[00:56:30] Spotify, pod chasers, iHeart radio or any of your favorite podcast

[00:56:34] programs and leave us a review in his room.

[00:56:37] And so she she takes it to her house.

[00:56:41] And as she's walking outside, the wind blows more wish dust.

[00:56:49] At least it's outside this time.

[00:56:51] Yeah. And she takes off her blindfold

[00:56:56] and she is back in her basement as a 13 year old

[00:57:00] and attacks Matt with a big old kiss.

[00:57:04] And he's like, you good at this?

[00:57:09] You know what you're doing.

[00:57:10] Yeah. And then together forever.

[00:57:14] And then it cuts to them getting married

[00:57:17] and moving into a house that looks exactly like the dream house

[00:57:22] he had built the same color pink and everything.

[00:57:25] It also looks like the two changed

[00:57:27] trap house in Atlanta, just putting it out there.

[00:57:31] Just so and as teenage Jenna and Matt are running upstairs,

[00:57:37] she runs by Tom Tom snatches the the essay, rips it up

[00:57:43] and calls her a bitch.

[00:57:48] And then you have it, people.

[00:57:49] We have done 13 going on 30.

[00:58:20] So Jackie, what is your what is your rating for now?

[00:58:25] You're not going to be happy.

[00:58:28] Why? Upon rewatching, I just did not enjoy it as much as I used to.

[00:58:36] And it used to be a movie that I would rewatch all the time.

[00:58:40] But I'm I'm thinking it's a two day rental for me now.

[00:58:44] Like it's OK.

[00:58:45] And if it's if someone puts it on, I'm like not going to say no.

[00:58:49] But I don't feel like it's going to be something that I

[00:58:52] on a Sunday afternoon have nothing else to do.

[00:58:56] I'm going to put it on.

[00:58:57] Well, I'm not upset because we had to push back

[00:59:02] and just even doing this recording a few times.

[00:59:04] And it took me forever to rewatch this movie.

[00:59:08] I was not as gung-ho as I wanted to be to watch it.

[00:59:12] And I wasn't really sure why.

[00:59:14] I feel like being an adult ruins everything,

[00:59:17] even though this didn't come out when we were kids.

[00:59:19] I just it still was kind of we were young enough.

[00:59:23] We were twenty two when this movie came out.

[00:59:26] Yeah. And so we were young enough to still have those dreams and aspirations

[00:59:30] of like two can have a general rank closet if you work hard

[00:59:35] and become a fashion editor at a magazine.

[00:59:38] Yeah, that's true.

[00:59:39] I am somewhere between a five day rental and a two day rental.

[00:59:42] I think I'm going to say five day rental.

[00:59:44] I would watch again when it's on randomly on like TBS.

[00:59:48] I do stop and I watch it.

[00:59:49] So it's definitely a five day, but it's no longer

[00:59:54] all the way at the top of my list anymore.

[00:59:56] Yeah, there are definitely movies from

[01:00:00] the 90s and 2000s that are like my go to.

[01:00:02] And this is just not one of them.

[01:00:05] Yeah. Once they we start going down our list of other movies,

[01:00:08] people are going to be like, what's wrong with these two for real?

[01:00:11] But Jen, baby girl, I just want you to know

[01:00:14] does they got nothing to do with our relationship?

[01:00:17] No, 100 percent love you.

[01:00:20] I watch I watch alias over and over again.

[01:00:25] I watch for the for your episodes.

[01:00:28] She is adorable on her little cooking, dancing, having her own little farm,

[01:00:36] just being a homemaker and she just seems like, you know,

[01:00:42] I know like not a lot of people about celebrity voice

[01:00:45] voice during it and I get it.

[01:00:46] But I feel like she's authentically a sweet caring person

[01:00:50] and has the patience of God dealing with the alcoholic loser as a baby daddy.

[01:00:55] So yeah, the thing about this movie plot or not,

[01:00:58] she freaking cares the whole damn thing.

[01:01:00] Yes. Yeah.

[01:01:03] So I'll say that.
